You can try Install Method 1 - No Root or Deodex Required.
I tried that but the last step says device should reboot but it doesn't

[Q] root without unlocking bootloader?

How do you root the atrix without unlocking the bootloader, I was looking for a guide but don't see one.
If you are still on Froyo, you can use Gingerbreak...

Unroot stock Rom froyo

Hi everybody
I have to send my gf's p500 in for warranty. It has stock froyo and is rooted via gingerbreak. What do I have to do to unroot it so I can send it in?
Unroot via gingerbreak and reset to factory defaults? Or do I have to do more?

Ok. So... no. No way.
No. But you can flash custom kernel such as rage or kamarush..
Then root it.

Hmmmm....the most easy way to root your phone (ICS) is to unlock bootloader and flash custom kernel....all custom kernel have pre-rooted and CWM....
if you want to go the harder way (refuse to unlock bootloader) then downgrade to GB, Root your phone then upgrade back to ICS....
some people use the easy way cause they can relock the bootloader if they WANT TO....
Yes they are . You can't root stock kernel . Or you can download boot extended stock kernel which is also pre rooted....

Should I root now or take an OTA update first?

I just bought this phone this morning and will root it but should I take an OTA first?

I guess my question is, will I still be able to unlock the bootloader and root the phone if I do take the ota?
Edit...I went ahead and took the ota, unlocked the bootloader, rooted and flashed the Viper Kitkat Rom. All is good now.
