Should I root now or take an OTA update first? - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I just bought this phone this morning and will root it but should I take an OTA first?

I guess my question is, will I still be able to unlock the bootloader and root the phone if I do take the ota?
Edit...I went ahead and took the ota, unlocked the bootloader, rooted and flashed the Viper Kitkat Rom. All is good now.

I never had a problem when rooted. The only problem that I had when rooted and doing OTA is that you lose root. Just make sure you get voodoo OTA rootkeeper to save root. You installed link2sd, busybox, deleted some apps that came with the phone, installed cwm or something that modified the system. Make a backup via cwm, then download a clean v20f here then wait for the update. Good Luck!!!

Help please Knox problem!

Ok so when I got my phone on Oct 4 I rooted and downloaded twarp that day. So my Knox is tripped. I'm on mi5 rooted right now. I did the wanam and exposed an now system is official. It let's me start the update to mj4. How can I update and still keep root?

Sounds like people have issues downgrading from MJ4 but if you're still on MI5 downgrade to the official MI3; Update to MJ4, root and TWRP again. (Anyone is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong...)
I'm still on MI5, being patient and cautious.
UPDATE: Similar thread only several posts down with info...
I think I might wait also. To many steps to screw up lol

Lock the bootloader, update to 290 and root again. Use your eyes and read. It's new year so don't expect any quality stuff from me.

Ota s-on?

I have to ask this because I am not sure, Do I have to be s-on to receive the ota?
I think not but i am not sure.
Sent from my HTC One max using xda premium
No.. You can be S-OFF and get OTA updates. You just need to be running Stock recovery, Kernel and Rom for update with bootloader Locked.
Ok thanks
