I have to ask this because I am not sure, Do I have to be s-on to receive the ota?

No.. You can be S-OFF and get OTA updates. You just need to be running Stock recovery, Kernel and Rom for update with bootloader Locked.

Ok thanks

It's recommended and it doesn't hurt anything

If you are on firmware from any ics leaks then no. If you have to flash the old firmware patch then yes.

If you still have the RUU downloaded just extract the recovery out of it.

First off. You are on the Global (4.03.605.2) RUU which isn't going to get an OTA. It doesn't need one. Only the official OTA from verizion which is build version 3.?.?.? something you would get the OTA
Makes sense. But why even release the ota if the ruu is newer than it

That RUU is a leak, not official.

Unroot

Sorry but I'm new to this forum. How do I completely unroot and bring my HTC amaze back to stock?

Flash an official RUU for your device. All stock roms are in the amaze bible.

Flash a ruu from the same brand if it's a Asian version then you'll have to do some digging also most mobilicity users had problems aswell flashing stock ruu

The one I flashed was ota ics tmous I did it exactly how I was told to do word for word. I get stuck trying to clear the security warning thru adb. it shows up as no device found but when I run fastboot devices it come up

Should I root now or take an OTA update first?

I just bought this phone this morning and will root it but should I take an OTA first?

I guess my question is, will I still be able to unlock the bootloader and root the phone if I do take the ota?
Edit...I went ahead and took the ota, unlocked the bootloader, rooted and flashed the Viper Kitkat Rom. All is good now.
