[Q] Desktop icon to open specific email account? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have searched high and low but cannot find a solution for me on this problem. I am running the Gingerbread RC by AT&T and have been using GO Launcher EX for a while now. I cannot find an option to make a shortcut to a specific email account's inbox. The default EMail link goes to the phones default account, and the messaging icon goes to the list of all the accounts. I would like to make it so that I can have individual icons for each email account, like Blackberry does is the best description. I have tried AnyCut, K9 (which sucks for exchange), and about anything else I have read.
Only thing I will not do is change my launcher applications. Please help me if you have any ideas.

you should have an "email" client as well as a "gmail" client, the email client can be linked to yahoo, hotmail, etc.... so I'm pretty sure you want a shortcut to your "email" application and then just have it setup for your different accounts..
hope that helped.

Yeah the email application only links to you default account. Cannot change to anything else besides the default. I have 2 exchange emails and would like to have a default icon that leads to both in one click instead of multiple clicks.

I had this before updating, but can't do it in this version? here is something kinda close to what you want. make a new motorola widget on screen for Messages, when is starts it will let you select which message source you want. Not the same as an icon, but close. it will bring up the last message, and you can select the inbox from there. I made one for each of my mail accounts and one for text msgs.

Multiple Exchange Account Icons for Home Screen
I have 2 Exchange accounts setup on my Atrix 4G. What I want to do is have 2 seperate icons on my home screen. One for each of the two accounts. I just want to touch one icon and go to that inbox. The "Email" icon in the drawer only takes me to the default account. I cannot find any way to setup a second icon for the second account. I already know about the Messaging app/folder that has all the accounts in it, but this is not what I want. Has anyone found a way to do this? Thanks for any help you can provide.

[Q] Difference between the email, messaging and gmail apps on Atrix

Hi Folks,
I have been using an iPhone 3G till now and just made the switch to Android. Just received my Atrix today and spent time getting familiar with Android/Motoblur and setting things up.
Now, I am really confused between these three apps
1. Email
2. Messaging
3. Gmail
From the time I've spend playing around, I know that Email and Messaging look pretty much the same, except that messaging also has text messages. So why do we have these two separate apps? Then there is Gmail. If I have a gmail account, should I add it to the Motoblur accounts or set it up with the Gmail app? Why are there so many overlapping apps?
Basically all I want is a single app where I can check all my emails from different accounts just like iPhone's native email app.
Please be easy on me as I am an android newbie Thanks in advance!
- Gmail is Google's gmail app that supports multiple gmail accounts
- Email is Moto's email app that supports different types of email accounts (integrated with MotoBlur)
- Messaging is Moto's text and MMS app

"Messaging" actually integrates texts, GMail, and the MotoBlur Email client. There is also a "Text Messaging" app that just handles texts. If you use the "Messaging" widget, you can even get FB messages on it.
Oops, I stand corrected. Was thinking about the captivate's Messaging.

To answer your other question, if you want to use the Moto "Messaging" with Universal Inbox then all you have to do is go to Accounts and select Google at the bottom and deselect "Sync Email" and then just setup your Gmail through Moto's Email client and you can get all your emails (just once) in the universal inbox. If you use both then you will receive redundant notifications for your Gmail.

[Q] multiple e-mail accounts

I have two e-mail addresses, both with comcast. I've added both to the atrix but can only seem to access one of them. The only way for me to switch in the e-mail app is to change the default mail client (which is really annoying). Does anyone know how to select the e-mail accounts without having to change the default, exit the app and come back in?
Thanks
For some reason Motorola decided to be special, what you need to do is actually click on the messaging app. There you will see both your accounts and can fully access them. The email app will only give you the email account that you set as default. Hope it helps. Cheers.

I can't believe i missed that
Wow. I can't believe i missed that....
you can also create a shortcut by selecting activities and scroll to universal inbox and select universal inbox.

[Q] confused email apps: two of them: @ and G

Hi,
So, somehow, I ended up with two email widgets on my desktop. I think one of them I installed separately, one was included with the Photon.
The default Android gmail app has the icon of a mailbox with "G" in it. The app that I think I installed has widget icon that's a mailbox with a "@" inside it.
let's call them the @mail vs gmail apps. The @mail app uses some OS wide account setting, where as the gmail app is tied to the google account used to sign up my Android.
For some reason, I've lost the ability to add another gmail account to the @mail program. It wouldn't configure right, even though I'm pretty sure I'm entering in the right username and password. Does anyone have this application? Can you check? Maybe gmail servers changed their settings so 3rd party apps don't work for it?
Thanks!

[Q] email accounts icons before ics update

Before upgrading to ICS, I would use the messaging app to access all the email. If I recall correctly, you would go to that, and then it would show all of your accounts and you could choose one of those. I see that is gone so is there something close to it? I guess I can click on the email app now and it brings me to whichever account I had open last, and I can just choose which account I want from there (that seems like the same number of steps as before). But one thing that was nice before was that the exchange email account had that blue icon so I could tell by looking at the notification bar if I had mail from that account or it it was from my personal accounts. Is there anyway to change that icon so they aren't all the same?

Account GMail and system Mail vs HTC apps

I'm using default GMail linked to Android Google account as only mail in phone. Problem is, that Sense+ designer probably missed, that someone actualy use GMail instead of internal Mail and here comes problem.
Lockscreen productivity tab - mail and calendar shows only calendar, because (I assume) it expects mails in Mail app. And because I use GMail, there are none.
Camera app share function offers by default Mail to send a picture, GMail option is cleverly hidden under More. And you cant rearrange it, so you have to make one more click and scroll to GMail option.
And probably more, just getting used to work with phone and still didnt explore everything. Am I missing some settings where I can choose default mail app representing Mail option in different programs, or GMail works like completely separate app and it has to be supported directly?
Did you download a Gmail app and that is what you are using? I would think in the general mail app that comes installed with the phone you can add a gmail account to it and it would then link to all functions of the phone. Not sure of your question? Are you using a 3rd party app download for your mail and expecting it to work with all the stock mail functions of the phone?
No when you setup your phone first time then you have to link it at least to google (gmail) account. And this account uses preinstalled gmail app instead default mail. If i wanted to use default mail app, then i would have to add my gmail acc manually, resulting in two apps syncyng same mails (you cant selectively disable gmail sync from google account).
Maybe im missing something as relativelly new android user or it looks like that system is set to use by default gmail app for google account defined mail and ignores system mail app, resulting in problems in (and not only) sense apps.

I'm picking this device up as it's announced Friday to be released here in the US on ATT. Until then, can't help much.
What i would try is hard reset phone, on intial setup do not sync with gmail as it asks, then once phone is set up open the default mail app, manually add your gmail account, now see if you get the home/lockscreen notifications you are looking for. If anything it would be a jellybean 4.1 or sense 4+ issue, doubt it's the actually hardware phone issue. Still though, you would think if you enter your gmail info from the set up prompt that it would sync with the gmail and stock mail app and work with all notifications? Would be dumb not to????
Hopefully can get some clarification on this before friday, if not then guess i'll find out myself.
By default if you fill in Google account during setup it links this mail to GMail app, which is hardcoded in system (cant uninstall, just disable). And it is not the same as default Mail app, which is of course worse than GMail so I would like to keep using GMail. But HTC uses more default Mail in its Sense UI as I mentioned, lockscreen notification (productivity screen) is hardcoded to Mail app only (tested) and Camera is offering Mail in first list for sending picture...

Wow well this sounds very stupid of HTC or whoever made this setup!!! Maybe someone can help us out then and figure a way for Sense and all the notification programs to use the Gmail app as well as the Yahoo or any other hard coded mail app upon intial setup! I know i'll then be in the same boat as you when i pick up my HOX+ from ATT this friday as i use yahoo, gmail, and outlook for work literally all day long! My work is basically through email when i'm not there so to have no or messed up email notifications on when they arrive, i'll be very upset about this!
Maybe a jellybean 4.1 or sense 4+ bug???
