if you want to keep root id suggest you wait on the update till its prerooted other wise you will lose root for good untill an exploit is found in gb

Yes, but sbf can still be done to root again.

I'll bet GingerBreak works on it. I've rooted a dozen of phones all different makes and models and versions with that handy all in one program.

This is false information. On the 23rd testers where contacted and told the test was not ready but we would be be notified when it was. So no need to worry about going back stock just yet.

In theory it could work, but the d3 can't be rooted, but then again its using the omap processor, so its time to wait and see

Every android device could be rooted, practically if you know mac, or linux its just typing su (super user, and i believe it might be sudo (superuser do)) does that answer the question, if not then yes

No word about MP3 or video recording issues, either that or I just read too fast and missed it

I think the OP's question was, can he update, or will he receive an update notice if his phone is rooted? I would like to know this as well.
Also, I am confused or not reading a clear answer, will this version be rootable? I think it is 2.3.3...Gingerbread.
I like root on my X2 too much to update right now if there is no root.
Thanks in advance for any clear answers and explanations.

I am so excited I am going to start my sbf now. If they are posting it on their website they have to be really close with it.

I'm about to do the same!

Gingerbreak used to work for rooting Gingerbread but they fixed the exploit in the latest versions. So right now there isn't any way to root. Your best bet is to wait for a custom rom to come out with Gingerbread pre-rooted.

Thanks and good luck!
OP: Have you received the update? Or just setting up a thread for it. I'm in NYC and haven't received it yet. I did just get the email though from Motorola.
No, sorry.
No I didn't get any email.

How are you getting emails for updates? I've never gotten an email about any updates for this phone, Droid 1 or Droid x.
You have to be part of the motorola owners forum soak test application to get the email updates. I got mine 3+ hours ago.

Wow this is a really misleading title.... Anyway if we do get the update it wont be till tomorrow sometime during the day.
Yes i was just talking about the email.. There have been NO releases, and honestly those that do get it are binder by an NDR so they really aren't suppose to talk about it..
Im sure it will be out latest tomorrow. My phone is ready to test.
Misleading title is very misleading...
Amazingly fast!
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
wow gingerbread is amazingly fast on this phone only thing im noticing is that we were supposedly getting the same blur as the droid3 but its not (seems like less blur widgets and no animations?) but yeah, wow
Successfully installed. I had frozen a bunch of stuff and I was rooted. Before I installed the update I defrosted everything, unrooted and then uninstalled gingerbreak. I had no problem updating and I've never had to SBF my phone. Hope this helps. YAY GINGERBREADS ! ! ! <3

[Q] Anyone test p3's modified .zip

Anyone get in touch with p3 to test his modified 2.3.3 update.zip?
His tweet was about 3 hours ago so I am assuming he has passed it out to a couple people now.
my thoughts is that it didn't work and now he's keeping quite but who knows
I think he's busy he isn't on Twitter all the time lol
I tweeted him back and said I would test it but did not hear back.
He's out of town so probably busy, expect to hear back when he's not busy.

I signed up! I bet it is GB 2.3.5 or 2.3.6. With minor bug fixes...
Sent from my MB870 using XDA
I was thinking the same as litetaker. Moto and VZW just released some bug-fixes for the D2 and something else if I remember right. Probably the same with the X2. One thing I don't get is that they complain the LTE in the Tegra devices like the XOOM is what is holding up ICS since the WiFi version has it already. Basically the X2 is just a smaller XOOM and since it only has the CDMA portion why can't it run ICS. The Specs of my X2 are better than my Nexus S 4G and I have my ROM running 4.0.3 on that without issue. Being Tegra based they can't blame that unless there is something in the CDMA holding it up.
What rom are you running that is 4.0.3 on the x2???
Woot! Lets hope its a music fix finally... right guys? Right?
I signed up today as well... I am thinking the same thing... it has to be a bug fix update.
I can't see them getting ICS out this quickly considering it was only about a month ago when it was put on the 'might be considered list'.
Motorola might move that fast enough to get it done... but VZW is slow.
Where is people signing up at?

Thanks for the heads-up, I hadn't read about this issue until seeing your post. Motorola clearly hates their customer base, viewing them as sheep to callously monetize.
I don't mean to go all Richard Stallman here, but Moto can't be trusted--they let us know that with the locked bootloader. That said, the DX2 is my last device...and NO way will I be a part of this soak test.
Again, thanks for the heads up, cheers.

Ok, first things first. ICS is coming down the pipe in a few days maybe a week or 2, depending on how the soak test goes. Why do you want to flash a GB OS mod when ICS will be here soon? If you flash to that I don't believe you'll get the OTA update.
Second, you'll want to have RSDLite installed on your machine with a safe, working copy of your stock rom. This can be found in about 50 places on these forums. The only catch is that when ICS rolls out, more than likely, you won't be able to go back to GB due to the boot loader being signed with a new version (all the posts you see about getting "unstuck" are speaking of that very problem).
I'll be more than happy to walk you through the process, but it just doesn't seem to be the wisest course of action with ICS so close.
Lemme know!

From the video on motorola page, they removed the integrated social networking app into individual one. I love the seamless integration. Not a good move by motorola.

Is it safe to assume the update breaks root?
Currently I have an update for 3.6 something but it fails every time...I think because I removed some apps like Madden and other "non-deletable" apps. How do i fix this so I can apply ICS?

You could try a factory reset. If that doesn't work you may have to fastboot. I'm curious about the "3.6" , what did you mean? RAZR doesn't have a 3.6 version number.
