[Q] Need help making a boot animation for thunderbolt - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tried a multitude of the other guides for other devices, but so far no luck. I have the pt1 and pt2 folders set up just need to know the config for thunderbolt.
Thanks
Garrett

Drop pt.1 pt.2 into "bootanimation.zip" Use Root Explorer to copy it to the system/media folder. Make sure its the right folder, check "system/customize/resources" if not media if you didn't know. Text file in zip. Works for my thunderbolt running Bamf Sense3.0 RC4.9 Running stargate bootanimation.

Take wife, take car, don't touch my Thunderbolt...

I dropped a link to my bootanimation.zip file. Just add your pt.1 pt.2 to the zip and drop it in your "system/media" or "system/customize/resources" file, which ever one it is. Use Root Explorer, if you didn't know that is. Use at own risk. I don't know what you files are. Make nand backup always....
Take wife, take car, don't touch my Thunderbolt...

You need a .txt file to let the phone know what part to run when and at what fps but I can't remember the code, my suggestion is to find your stock ani and look inside it for this

Thanks guys, is there any certain way I have to zip the bootanimation.zip? I've tried on my mac and on a windows machine, neither would read :/ I will try again. Thanks for the replies!

try this one

OK so I looked at your ani and this is what I suggest
First the only folders that should be in the zip is part 1, part 2, and the desc.txt
When I opened your zip these files were inside two other folders
Second change the PNG numbers to start at 1 (they currently start at 3
Third change the numbering to 3 digits instead of what you have now. Ie 001....etc
I can't guarantee this will fix it but its all I got. Lol

I don't think so, the images are width 480 x height 800.
and here is the new zip

Any ideas? It isn't a big deal as of late I haven't had much time for anything on my phone, but I wish this problem was resolved lol

Sorry bro, wife had a baby last week so ive been a bit busy, LOL....I can't find anything in the .zip that would be out of the ordinary to make the images stretched....even when previewed they are Crystal clear....I'm stumped.

Using Root Explorer navigate to system/media and find the .zip you put there. Long press it and select Permissions. It should be set up as follows:
User: Read, Write
Group: Read
Others: Read
See if that helps, though Im not a Gingerclone user so YMMV.

Just want to add, I modified the first Animation to have the Nvidia piece kick in a litter faster. As my phone starts pretty quick, and having the Motorola animation run 4-5 times before the Nvidia animation, my phone would start before I saw the Nvidia tegra animation.

You have to Root your Photon 4g 1st...
Just follow this site and follow the steps to Root your Phone..
Its so Simple... Just a Click of a button you have your Photon Rooted..
Make sure you enable Android Debugging and Allow Unknown Source in Apps settings..
Root
After than, Just paste the Bootanimation.zip folder in your sd card or internal storage.
( You have to Rename it to bootanimation.zip )
Then Use Root Explorer and go into System/media and paste it over there..
When you get Permission Request on Superuser click Allow..
Thats all..
Reboot and Enjoy your New Boot Animation.

I recently discovered how to mount directories with read/write permissions, I did so and it worked like a charm. Great animation BTW. Anyone have others they find interesting?
Can someone please upload the stock boot animation for those of us who needed to restore their devices to stick and lost the original animation?
This looks easy and awesome!

After installing your animation I found another I wanted to try out, however yours seems to be here for the long haul.
I've even gone as far as deleting the animation zip entirely and then rebooting, with no luck. Is there some back up that it draws from in the case that the files are not present?
Honestly I keep expecting your animation to say " Resistance is futile".. Any ideas?

Good job on this man. I was reading thru the posts and saw some were having issues with permissions so before I copied over the new Boot Animation .zip file, I checked the permissions of the original and after copying over I made sure the new one had the same.
Worked without an issue and looks great!!

No mClocks are working (Found solution!)

I've created an mClock folder on my phone, dragged the files with images into it and when I click on one of the .xml files, it shows the time/date but no image/template behind it. Ive also tried adding these files to my SD card with no luck.
Not sure why the background is not showing up, anybody have any idea?
Edit: Okay I found a solution for anybody who ends up here somehow. The mClock skin needs its own folder inside of the "mClock" folder you've created on your phones storage. So on your phones storage (didnt work on my SD for some reason), create a folder called "mClock" and within that folder create another one with the name of the zip. So I downloaded a skin called "ribbons", so the folder inside your mClock folder should be called "ribbons". Then drag everything into that ribbons folder and you should be good to go!
Sorry if confusing lol
Have you looked in the Android themes section where the mclock thread is yet? There are a lot of the same question there about mclock not showing up properly. from what I would speculate is that the background image isn't in the right folder where the xml file is supposed to find it. That usually is my problem as well.

Editing: Found solution, in OP.
sadly the solution doesn't work for me :'( ...
in my case i've tried internal and external no difference. my layout is mnt/sdcard/mclock/sayit/hdpi/xmls/ and when i select my xml it will appear in preview but not when i press back. i can grab it but it is invisible and shows nothing.
Sent from my Galaxy S II Skyrocket
You also need to make sure the "mClock" folder you create on your sd is exact....(lowercase "m", capitol "C") If not the whole path will be ruined. Inside the .xml you can look at the path, just make sure you name your folder correctly!
Ye when I posted it was just mclock but tried mClock no difference...
ok on a stock rom it won't even appear in preview anymore. it will however appear on homescreen but without xml modification its just the regular font.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727R using XDA App
are you're themes in .zip format, are you unzipping and moving the folder inside your "mClock" folder on your sd? If so, you need to open up the .xml in notepad and make sure what the path is, should be (sd/mClock/nameofyourfolder) make sure everything is spelled correctly and that everything is on the same path as the .xml, otherwise it wont work.
It was downloaded as a zip yes. But as I stated in my first post it is sdcard/mClock/Sayit/hdpi/xmls/ and it is in there

It shouldn't be all that.....it should be, sdcard/mClock/"themefolder") Inside the folder of whatever theme you're using should be the .png,.ttf font file, and the .xml. all in the theme folder of you're choice.

If you edited the txt file, make sure there is a hard return after the last line. When you zip it all back up, make sure there is no compression.

All I did was edit some of the png files in the res folder, then copied those back into the res folder replacing the originals that were in there basically. I also tried right clicking and clicking add to archive but that didn't work at all.
So it sounds like you are on a Mac(?)
Try finding a tool that will allow you to create a zip without any compression. That might be your problem if you are letting the OS handle it for you.

I used winRAR to compress the bootanimation, but chose "Store" instead of normal or best. I use 7zip for themeing the APKs because it allows to open the archive and updates the apk when you close it..
OK, yeah sorry. I get my OS' mixed up sometimes.
I use WinRar as well - using "store" as well. Many others use 7zip..just preference.
Ok so with 7zip I basically open the archive and change what I want and then put it on my phone and its done?

Excellent stuff here, man! :good:

So I went ahead and put this on my phone (how could I not?) and hit restart. When it gets to the nVidia part, it flickered....bad.
So, I decompressed the archive, checked the pics (look fine from what I can tell), then re-compressed as "store" (almost doubled the archive file size), put the new file on the phone and hit restart again. Still flickering.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I ended up converting the wav file into mp3, renaming it to "android_audio", and dropping it into my system/customize/resources directory.
I've also played around with re-compressing the image files to around 60% with irfanview, but it made no noticeable difference in file size, so I didn't bother transferring that to my phone to check for flickering.
Hmm... Well, I have a different device to you so I can't exactly test, but the only reason I can think of is that the fps rate may be too high. OEMs set it to 20 for a reason, and I doubt it's because they're too lazy to make an extra 10 files a second
