I'm trying to restore my Froyo app backups, i.e. Email 2.2.2, News 2.2.2, etc with Titanium Backup but have encountered a problem. They won't restore! The only reason I want to restore them is I'm under the impression when I update to Gingerbread (once it's avaiable on Bell) it won't let me update since I don't have some core apps installed. Please help!
The icon in the right of those apps, is an explanation mark in a triangle?
No it's actually a red happy face.
It's just Email 2.2.2, Weather 2.2.2 and News 2.2.2 that I backed up and un-installed. Now when I try and restore just those 3 the restore pop up screen goes on forever. Do I even need to reinstall these in order to update to Gingerbread successfully? Thanks.

The think you can do is, ask for another Bell user here, upload the 3 apks you want, and
using Root Explorer or any other exlporer with root access,
or adb using your computer
move these apps to system/app
You unistalled them because they were bloatware, right?
You shouldn't unistall them. You should freeze them, and now restore them back.
But, what i suggest is:
Unlock your Bootloader,
install the Unlocked CWM
and download and install(using cwm zips) an International Version of 2.3.4 from now.
But READ very carefully the android dev section, so you wont get hard-brick!

The only thing you have to afraid, is some SBF's, when you unlock you bootloader..(If the dont remove some code of Bootloader, in SBF's, and then you downgrade from 2.3 to 2.2, you get hard-brick!)
So, i suggest you, instead of waiting the 3 apk's,
wait for a more stable and international support for a rom(like, i m waiting Alien Rom),
and then flash it using CWM..
If you read here, you can easily unlock your Bootloader, but this can void your guarantee.
Since you are unlocked, then never use RDS lite, to flash SBF's, and flash roms in CWM which is easy and safe!

So unlocking my phone is the only risky part? And after I unlock my phone I should never update with the official releases again? Also, unlocking my phone only gives me the ability to flash roms, kernels etc in the future when a more stable Bell 2.34 rom comes out, it doesn't change anything with my phone as is right now except I void my warranty? Basically unlocking doesn't give me Gingerbread or anything for that matter, it only allows me to install it afterwards? You can probably tell I'm very new to all this so thank you for being so patient and helpful.

I rooted using the preinstall method, it worked fine.
Here are my questions:
I want to flash a custom ROM. Maybe Ninja. Is this possible when I updated OTA instead of flashing with an unlocked bootloader?
What are the steps required for flashing and still keeping all my data? I'm concerned about application data, camera roll, sms (I use Go-SMS), etc.
Is there a way I can make a "mirror" backup with all my data, so I can recover from it once flashing? (Is this nandroid?)

You must unlock bootloader if you want custom ROMs.
If you updated to 2.3.4 OTA flashing pudding sbf will semi hard brick your phone. But it's ok. You can recover by repeating the fastboot commands in the Pudding thread instructions. Or just follow instructions here:

From there on you will need to flash unlocked CWM recovery.
From there on flashing custom roms is the easiest thing ever.

Nope. You need to start at step 1.
Make sure to install the drivers before doing RSD flash. x64 windows drivers here.

It's really just an extra step, don't think of it as bricking. You'll likely get a 0x1000 failed to boot. Then you go abck into fastboot mode and re run the oem unlock commands.
As for data, you gotta buy titanium backup pro (free is fine, but then you have to manually ok each app you restore). Use this to back up your Apps.
Then I use my back up pro to back up my texts, mms, other stuff.
back up, install rom, restore.

You will still to have to do it after CM7 gets released. Better do it now and get it out of the way while you have the urge.
I am sure once you unlock, you won't be able to resist the temptation of trying custom roms
Just wanted to say, I followed all steps to the letter and unlocked my bootloader with no problems at all. So not everybody gets the 0x0001 type erorrs, either way though as they've stated, you can recover from it with fastboot so it's all good

backup using titanium.
unlock using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871 which is safer than sbf.
use rom manager to flash CWM. then do a nandroid backup (to create mirror image).
flash new rom (follow a guide)
restore apps using titanium.

I have a rooted Atrix running 4.1.57 with the webtop hack. Every time I try an OTA upgrade, it runs into an error after rebooting, and I have to pull the battery to get it to normal.
I want to install Pudding and run GB (either stock, or a custom ROM), while retaining root. I also want to make sure that I don't lose my any game states - I'd hate to play them all over again.
What's the best way to go about this. You'll have to bear with me because I'm a n00b, and I haven't had the time to keep in touch with things lately.

You should really search these things yourself, but I will help. Don't ota update! It will "burn" the fuse and make you unable to flash down again ( it will hard brick if you go from 4.5.91 to any firmware below it) use the pudding sbf, it comes prerooted. Titanium backup in the market will backup apps and their data.

Thanks! That's exactly what I ended up doing yesterday. I flashed a 4.5.91 that supposedly unlocked the bootloader as well.
Its unlocked if it says unlocked when you first power up the phone.

I am ready to install the latest update to my x2, but i am currently rooted and have the pulldown toggle zip and crt animation on my device, as well as the supercharger script, i know its very easy to remove the supercharger script,but would the crt or pulldown effect the install? Anyone encountered this issue yet?

In order for you to update your gonna have to sbf back to 2.3.3 if that's what your on. If not, then the update will fail because of the root. You will be able to update once you sbf & wipe data in stock recovery as well just to be safe. Hope that helps
Edit: this is for if you are trying to get the ota...sorry I should clarified that first

Just use titanium backup then and back to stock, do the update and reload ur apps. Takes all of about an hour, tops.

It most likely WILL fail due to the mods/or rom u run due to missing files that are necessary.
if u are stock rooted I think it would work...but either way good idea to go back bone stock just to avoid any issues altogether
im running the completely stock rom, removing the script i have isnt an issue what so ever, is there any way to remove installed zips that were installed in the recovery?

True always better to be safe than sorry
if your on stock and you want to return your animations to stock you could possibly extract framework-res.apk from /system/framework/ of the stock gingerbread and push it via adb to your phone or you could use root explorer to do so as well. that should erase your mods to animations. and you'll most likely have to reboot after. but animations should retrun to stock after, than unroot and take the ota. but its never a bad idea just to go to bone stock via sbf as rp076 suggested
For taking off the toggles u can just flash the stock notification zip from one of those threads I think it is there somewhere. Or ask the creator of the toggle zip u flashed for the stock one...
But ur safest bet is sbf and data wipe. It's not hard to do at all and is just a good thing to know how to do

Why do people keep thinking that just because you have root you have to SBF.. Root has nothing to do with the OTA update..
If you try and it fails it's not due to root, it would have to do with something frozen, or you have OTA Blocked with Rom Manager, or something else changed...
Of all the phones out there I can't think of any (ever) that have blocked OTA updates just because of root access.. In fact OTA Blocking had been added in to Rom Manger a few years back to prevent the OTA updates so people wouldn't update and lose root on updates that were not rooted yet.
On a side note, why would you SBF to 2.3.3 instead of just going to 2.3.4? You're just adding an extra step there. That would be like flashing back to Froyo SBF (what's the point?) if you want 2.3.4 GB..

Calm down killa...just stating what I know thru past experiences & I'm not the only one who's had the problem before. When the 2.3.3 update first came out I couldn't update because my phone still was rooted, NOTHING FROZEN OR REMOVED. I read in other threads at the time that sbf'ing was the way to fix the problem. Once i did that, i was able to get the update installed successfully. Its not a wrong procedure, but a way to be sure to get a clean install. And as for flashing back, I was saying to do that if he wanted the ota

So after alot of thinking i've finally decided to take the plunge and upgrade my phone to an android phone. Im liking the atrix and i really wanna go for it, i just got a couple of questions.
The one im planning on getting in unlocked, and rooted, though i can have him unroot it for me. Now my current phone is my 4 year old nokia 5530, running a custom rom i flashed a while back, so i know abit about flashing. Now rooting, this is the 1st time i've heard off it.
Im new to all this, and I get the advantages, but really at the moment all i really need from it is the ability to install non-market apps, but from what i've gathered so far, it seems i cant update OTA to ICS (when its released) without bricking my phone if its rooted?
Isnt there any way to be able to install non-market apps without rooting? Or rather a way to have it rooted and still be able to update when the official ics release is out?

You have a few options, but what you choose is all really up to you.
First, I recall there being a way to sideload (run non-market applications) in Froyo via a script on the computer, but it required being at the computer every time you wanted to load one. But since it's running the official Gingerbread update, you should just be able to change an option to sideload, no hacks and no rooting required.
If you're still interested in rooting, there's a simple root method that could likely be undone, if the device is still new enough to be under warranty. See this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255548

I have an Incredible 4g on Verizon that I acquired during the first week of release. I was fortunate enough to get it unlocked during the time when HTC allowed it from their site. I unlocked the phone, installed TWRP, and rooted my device (I'm not entirely sure how I did this).
It's been over a year now, and my phone is kind of sluggish. How can I go about updating this phone to the latest software? I'd settle for the latest OTA from Verizon, as long as I can keep it rooted.
I'm also willing to flash one of the other kernels, but I dont really have any experience flashing CM or Viper.
So what's the best way to go about doing this? How do you update an already rooted phone? Ideally I'd like to keep all apps/data during the update. Any information or links for how to update appreciated!

Software: 1.43.605.3.710RD
HTC SDK API: 4.11

imo - the update is not worth it anyway. they other thread lists the changes... nothing significant.
if your phone is sluggish either find out what is causing it (app, etc), tweak performance using your root, or wipe it and start clean. i would not give up an unlocked, rooted device for this update.

Is this just for stock updates, or for Viper/VM mods as well? I'm willing to step up to 4.3 or 4.4 with one of these custom ROMs, assuming I can keep root.
Is this a complicated process to install one of these custom ROMs (anything special since my phone is so "old")?
Will I have to wipe and install from scratch as well?
You can always clear your cache and davek cache to help improve speeds.

Installing a fresh/new ROM is very easy, and it will indeed require reinstalling apps. However, Look at getting Titanium Backup Root - I highly recommend the Pro version - you can back up all of your apps and data. Once performing a full TiB backup to your external SD card, you can wipe and install a fresh ROM, then restore any/all apps and data backed up with TiB. The app will pick up right where you backed it up, settings and all. You may need to re-set up a few apps (such as email settings).
If you like sense, I recommend ViperLTE. It's very close to stock Sense, but offers several great tweaks you can choose to use (or not). Installing it is easy if you have TWRP recovery installed. If you don't have TRWP installed, look at mdmower's thread for that recovery. I also highly recommend performing a full Nandroid backup to your external SD card before doing anything.

Very true... I, too, lost root after OTA update. I've tried every method I could find to attempt to unlock bootloader now with update... even tried wipe and flash of stock RUU 2.17.605.2: unable to go back to older version due to updated bootloader (wouldn't let me load it).
It'd be nice if HTCdev simply updated for a .bin that'll work... I tried flashing unlock_code.bin from previous experiences... but wouldn't work either. Any rumors of a new method to unlock the new bootloader?
