Hey guys, been rooted ever since I got my eris, all the devs that have been working on both Froyo and 2.1 ROMS are awesome, don't know how you do what you do!
So here's my Question... When do any of you guys see a sense enabled froyo base rom? I have been switching between all the major froyo builds (tazz, kaos, celeb) and love the speed and reliability of them, but I personally like the stuff htc had done with the OS with the Sense UI. Right now I'm running EvilEris v.4, and that's working for me now, I was just wondering.
This post might do better in the general section, but everyone over here seems to know their stuff.
Thanks for any answers!!

I'm trying to port one, so if it works it will come soon.
I wish Ye luck with that. I'd like to help were I can, would be grateful. I wonder if you're doing a port from the legend or the desire?
I love SenseUI. But any Sense ROM that was 2.1 just lagged in certain areas on my phone. Would be awesome to see a Sense 2.2 ROM without any lag.
So far all of my port attempts have failed but the work continues. I personally can't stand sense ui but a froyo sense port would be sweet.
Sent from my nonsensikal Froyo
If I could make a suggestion could it be the espresso version of senseui(the one you like see on the MyTouch Slide), as I have found that to be a bit faster).
I'm also working on porting this... wish me luck!
It's great to see so many developers working on this. I'm hopeful to see one soon.

try Ivan's 1.0. I've had absolutely no lag and I've had over a month's worth of use on it all together.
until a developer comes out with the sense froyo you can alteast use the vatsense docks for launcher pro http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743703
xtrSense will accomodate all of your needs and desires.
I like it better than AOSP Froyo ROMs. Cyanogen added features that only SenseUI had, to make AOSP Android better.
SenseUI > AOSP, and there isn't a WHOLE lot that Froyo Sense does that 2.1 xtrSense by zach.xtr doesn't already do. Just some things that he has to use apps for that Froyo has built in. No big deal.
I am curious as to which is more common among users in the forum.
Stock (No Pseudo-Rom)
-or-
GingerBlur (GingerBlur, GreyBlur, GladiAtrix)
As a themer it would be beneficial to know. I go stock at the moment, but if the majority is using GingerBlur then I may start using that as a base for themes.
Thanks for voting.
GB v4 . don't ever want stock again.
What is this "stock" you speak of?like stock in MMI? Kenneth Pennington for prez!

GingerBlur replaces a few apps. Such as Messaging, Launcher, Dialer, Clock, as well as the lock screen. In stock you use the Motorola specific versions.
Even though I use gingerblur, it seems like you forgot about gladiatrix and greyblur.

I was incorporating them all together.
Personally?
Atrix 4.1.83 w/ Gingerblur 4.
Been meaning to do a fresh install lately, but Gingerblur is the way to go.
Greyblur is usable, but i'm used to Gingerblur, and it gets updated more often.
So yeah. Gingerblur>Greyblur>Stock.
I dont use Gladatrix, so i can't give a opinion about that...

I was just kidding man. I use Gingerblur 4.0 I was more trying to emphasize that under no circumstances should anyone use stock motoblur. That is my opinon and nothing more.
Real roms > stock > p. Roms imo.

For now, just stock. I'm still enjoying the last days with my Sony Xperia X10. The Atrix is in the box yet
I'm trying to cover every rom/mod possible before I can make a decision about it, but most probably I'll go with GingerBlur. I heard there's an update to come, maybe (and just MAYBE) I'll wait for the update instead of GingerBlur my Atrix in the days to come... I don't know.
But when I start using the phone, it's rom for sure. Stock roms usually suck =D
Gingerblur stock is dull

Using stock, haven't tried any P-Rom yet, not sure they do good on battery drain.
Gingerblur user here. Primarily because I like the look of gingerbread, but also because I'm a fan of kennethpenns. I have no stability issues and it's smooth and responsive. Though admittedly I haven't tried the other p-roms to compare.
Gingerblur for now, but when the Gingerbread OTA hits I'll be back to stock. The dark blue/white theme going on it looks pretty good to me.
for the record GladiAtrix v3b2
Stock for me.

Gingerblur 4 over here. Finally got it going on the 2.1.1 sbf and been loving it. Super quick. The one thing I miss are some of the motoblur widgets. I know there is a way to get some of the bloatware back (because I don't want all of it), but for the time being I'm liking gingerblur.
tbh, stock sucks, visually if anything
GingerBlur +1

am i actually the only one that likes motoblur?
i bet if gingerblur was actually the stock one and someone came up with motoblur, people would be drooling over it. people just want to be different, sigh
I was originally rooted and ran Das Bamf for a while but it bothered me that the front facing camera and voicemail notifications did not work, so I unrooted and upgraded to OTA.
Here is what I'm looking for in a ROM:
* Gingerbread based
* 100% phone functions work as they should (front facing camera, voicemail notifications, etc.)
* Bloatware removed
* Stock interface (sense or AOSP) ... I'm just not much for customized screens, fonts, etc.
Is there a ROM for me?

how is this guy not banned yet for being so picky?
well, i'd say probably Das BAMF (sense based) although those folk aren't welcome around these parts. you'll have to look elsewhere for their ROMs.
Until Verizon and HTC release an official Gingerbread build for this phone, the Voicemail from Verizon will not work properly.
I've tried just about every sense ROM there is. There are versions of visual voicemail that work...but I sold myself to Google Voice a while ago...and I should've done it sooner.
Any GB build is based off a leak and folks "Tweaking" things to get them to work.
You could try 10 different ones, I'd damn near guarantee none of them will have 100% of everything working (as pointed out by VM...for starters).
There are quite a few good choices... DroidTh3ory builds a mean, lean and fast one.
DAS BAMF is nice as is Virus ROMs (Synergy).
There are plenty others, but these are the main three I bounce between...
Get into a good nandroid habit...and you can go from one ROM to the next in 20 minutes or so...and learn basic ADB Shell commands in case you bork...download the Android SDK.
Voicemail and FFC work on AOSp ROMs.

I disagree on bamf sense 3.0 working great. It works, has its bugs but its not like aosp so I agree with Droid theory. And btw his roms are excellent. I've used gingered. And infused before I switched to liquid thunderbread and he just came out with an aosp. So props on that. And besides I feel bad for you for going back to stock with bloatware and slowdownthephones absolute potential ware. Hahahahs. And ffc and voicemail have worked fine forr me. With every rom I've had. It didn't like to work on stock though.

Im in the same boat. I just got a TBolt and have it rooted, but am a little confused about all the ROMS (Sense 2.1, 3.0, etc) Should I just stay with rooted "stock" until GB is officially out?
Quick question.... Boot newbie question.... What us aosp?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
AOSP is android open source project. Google gave devs their code and told em to go to town to help develop better software. The difference between aosp and sense is this. Sense roms are typically 269 MB or more. Aosp roms are 69-79 MB smaller more efficient and extremely faster.
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt using XDA App
Try DroidTh3ory's AOSP 1.1.1. This is the fastest, and most stable AOSP experience I've had. Totally bloat-free, 100% functionality, best performance of any rom, hands down.
AOSP - Android Open Source Project - Barebones android, released to dev's to fine-tune for devices.
Sense - HTC's 'fine-tuning' of AOSP, including 200mb+ of 'pretty' and 'shiny' and 'bloaty' and 'whatever else verizon, amazon, htc, your mom wants to stick in there.'
So I'm currently running Bamf 3.0 rc4.9 is considered aosp or sense? Do you still have all functionality of sense Roms? Does running an aosp extend battery life? Oh another newb question.... How do I make a nandroid backup? Is it a app or just recovery image? Thanks in advance

You are running sense 3.0 so it is not aosp at all. It may be fast but does not compare to any of the aosp roms. when I first switched to an aosp rom my eyes started glowing with the speeds. For example I was running Gingered theory and got 1885 on my quadrant scores. (Overclocked to 1.9) And when I switched to aosp I got 3000 on just 1.4 overclocked.

Yep. You're good. When you flash a new rom it will get rid of your current kernel. Cause roms already come with kernels.
There are kernels for aosp and sense. Use aosp kernel for aosp. Don't use sense!
Aosp is fast for sure. Sense roms have better battery now IMO. But aosp will catch up.

So I know that there are a number of available ROMs out now for the X2. I just wanted your guys' opinion on the "best" one. And by "best", I'm talking performance-wise. Is there one that clearly stands out in terms of performance or are they all generally similar?
Btw I'm running Eclipse remix and it's pretty great. Thanks guys!

Eclipse hands down
+1
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Eclipse is nice. Mostly because it was the first one out and has received CONSTANT change feedback and support. I am sure the others will catch up to the following eclipse has and get the feedback needed to create amazing roms. With that said I think ALL the roms are great considering we have a locked bootloader so it is limited in what can be done.
My smartbench productivity score hovers around 3000. The gaming index tho has dropped to 2100 from 2700 on the remix5 test version. I been trying to figure out what changed. All I know is my gljellyfish only gets 22fps when I used to get 36 easily. And I notice my screen pixelates while watching netflix movies a LOT now. Just awaiting blurless 7 as I think it is the blurless I have been waiting for. I have stayed true to blur remix but I think that might change me.
My personal opinion is that the new Atrix update is the best current ROM. I like eclipse, but I didn't like the camera functions. Performance-wise they are pretty similar IMO.

+1 less blur, the better imho. Eclipse v6 is very snappy and responsive and the battery life is great! I liked the performance of the Atrix stock port, but it's too much like stock. Take some time and flash away. Forget about scores and see which ROM feels, and performs, the best for you and what you use your phone for.

I like Alien and Liberty!!
The new atrix rom is awesome and very fast no problems for me at all
I'm personally on the atrix rom, i deblurred myself, installed the modified qhd twlauncher from the atrix forum, and im using the "way blur should have been" theme in the X2 themes and apps board; my smartbench is disappointing me (1600 productivity :X) but it's the smoothest my phone has ever been. If you're not a benchmark reliant user, it's awesome.
I use the stock atrix port.
I dont understand why people complain about blur, theres alot of blur thats way better than AOSP.
Camera, music, widgets, ect.
For me the widgets may have been the biggest deal. i like my homescreen crowded

It seems that people have a mixed opinions on blur or no blur. Im pretty sure that there are strengths and weaknesses with both.
What I like about nitro's rom's is that he has somehow found the best of both worlds and somehow makes them play nice together. That's an amazing feat in itself!

Eclipse. I tried the atrix port but went back
I was on v.6 of Eclipse, downgraded to v.5 for the red ICB theme. Going to try out others. My first smart phone, and its a blast trying out tons of stuff! I say pick one that has a cool name like Alien, flash it, then move onto another weather you liked it or not, and keep going, even if it feels like the best one ever, there's always another to try! Figured I might try some ATRIX port ones tonight!

Atrix with the Alien theme (not Alien Rom). I read on another forum that you can flash pretty much any theme thats compatible with the Atrix version 4.5.91. So far so good, I'm running Navens Atrix port with very little blur look, will probably try to De-Blur as much as it permits.
after running the Atrix port for about 2 weeks, I'm going back to eclipse, the atrix port has been giving me problems using wifi tethering and honestly, the longer I use it the more it lags and the slower it gets.
eclipse gave me NO problems whatsoever (except for crappy battery life) but that was version 5, I'm trying to hold out for blurless 7 but I don't know if I can wait that long.

Id go to v.7 if there was a red and black theme. I like the Win 7 ROM that Peperm1nt just released. Its still in its beta with some fixes coming soon, but I like it because its fast and looks different because of Launcher 7. Might want to give it a try!

Longtime XDA flasher here. I've recently moved on to the GSIII and am going to be giving my beloved Vibrant to my 65-year-old Mom, who wants a touchscreen phone for easier dialing (LOL). She will not be using a data plan, so no need for working GPS, etc.
I'm looking for the most stable, fastest (without bloat) ROM available that will not cause me frustration when getting calls from her asking what a "force close" is!
Right now, I've got Chimera v1 on there. I was thinking of reverting back to maybe GB or even Froyo, but I really haven't kept up with the development in the past few months. So, any suggestions? Thanks!

I would definitely pick Bionix V 1.3.1 as one of the choices. That rom is amazing. I would definitely not go with ICS or JB since both are still developing and have bugs here and there. GB is kind of unstable. I would find a nice, stable Froyo ROM :good:

There a quite a few stable roms to choose from in that department.
Something from Fish is always an awesome bet

Agreed.
Even though ICS/JB is much faster and newer, froyo/gb is pretty simple and easy to use, less settings to mess around with, and its more basic to use than the newer versions. I had quite a though time just changing most of the settings in JB but in froyo/gb, it was much easier.
Being a smartphone, it can tough for even older people to use, but the only thing shes probably would need it how to use the touch-buttons, how to make a call, how to unlock the screen, and your good. Goodluck!
Stick with a 2.2 rom, don't want to leave mom with a phone that won't call 911.

Cyanogenmod dev team just fixed the 911 issue. All cyanogenmod based roms after today's date should be great for everyday use. Fisherman's Mod is good too if you don't use a lot of apps, it is a Samsung based Tom and the filesystem can create tons of lag.
