Sorry, this may have been asked loads but I've got to ask.
This is my second android device, my first being a HTC Desire which was rooted and I could quite happily flash any ROM that I lay my eyes upon. Rooted fine using unRevoked method etc and the goldcard antics. - It scared me to do but when I had it done then was comfortable flashing new roms all the time. I had CWM 2.5(I think) as my recovery and wiped data/cache/dalvik with ease.
Is the Atrix on par with that? I mean after I have rooted and unlocked my bootloader, I am wanting to just have the stock gingerbread rom and then the fixes that I'd need like the ram fix etc.
But really, just how hard(& scary) is it rooting, unlocking and flashing GB rom?
Sorry if my post is very ....erm...... noobie if you like..
I had a nexus one.. rooted, unlocked, various roms.. great phone.
my atrix is hard bricked beside me :-/, and im back on the N1..
lots of tutorials lots of 'if your this version', 'if you came from here, but are here now, dont' go here', etc... seems more 'gotchas' and accidents can be made with the atrix than my nexus one..
Since it's been out a while, it's pretty easy. There's step by step guides to unlock and flash any rom you like. Personally, I'm on KPs 2.3.4 Beta 4.5 rom, and it works great. Browse around in the Development section and you'll see a guide for ANYTHING you want to flash. It takes little to no knowledge to do. Not scary.
So from what I've found...
I root using this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138204
I unlock my B/L with this:
http://briefmobile.com/how-to-unlock-the-atrix-4g-bootloader
And then do this to get gingerbread?:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169409
--------------- OR -----------------------
Should I do this to get Tenfar's CWM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138541
And then flash GB Fruit Cake via CWM?:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163009
Or should I just run through this complete guide?:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1167373
I really don't know where I should start, currently my specs are:
System Version: Version.4.4.20.MB860.Orange.en.GB
Firmware Version: 2.2.2
Baseband Version: N_01.95.00R
Webtop Version: OSHWT_U1_6.61.6
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build Number: OLYEM_U4_4.2.0
I am right there with you I bricked my Atrix already and don't want to do it again. There is to many ways to root and unsafe ways to root someone needs to compile a guide on how to root install CWM and then install Roms safely.
I agree, Theres a noobs guide for AT&T users, we need an International one now....hint hint anyone..?
I am a noob to Android but I followed the steps in this thread and I unlocked my BL and rooted my phone with ease. I did this after having the Att GB ota.

I appear to have left out some quite important information, I'm an Orange UK user.

I am sorry if this is spammy but I couldn't seem to find a definitive answer. I wanted to make absolutely sure of this before I point my friend to rooting his phone.
He applied the latest over the air update and has the current info from the About Phone menu:
Android Version: 2.2.1
Baseband: 1.39.00.0627r, 0.01.69.0625r
Kernel: 2.6.32.21
If there any reason that he shouldn't try to root his phone? I want to make sure that trying to root his phone won't brick it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
use the rooting instructions in the sticky in the development section.. you'll have to downgrade first to the rooted rom in that.
after that you can upgrade the rom again to any of the OTA roms that were rooted... or to any of the leaked roms.

Cool....thanks for the help, but I am slightly confused.
So basically just follow the rooting instructions in the "MR1/OTA PermRoot + Unlock Bootloader - Safer/Easier 5/12/2011" thread and he should be fine? Or are there other steps that need to be taken before running all the instructions in that thread?
First off, I'm completely new to this and wish to root my new sgs2, and I've done some reading on the forum about this but got some questions (or want to confirm what I think I know) before I actually go ahead with the process. I apologize if it's something others have already asked, but I would really hate for anything to happen to what has become my new baby...
I mainly just want root access on my phone as I've come across several apps and what not that required root access.
My phone's status right now:
Android version: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9100XXKG1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100ZSKG2-CL361136 [email protected] #6
Build: GINGERBREAD.ZSKG2
I found (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399) about CF-Root. It seems like a lot of people recommend this method to root, so I thought I may try it out. Before I do though, I wanted to know:
- Just rooting my phone will not prevent me from receiving any new updates to my phone via Kies, right? (E.g. a new firmware or version comes out in the future...)
- What do I need to do if I wish to unroot in the future?
- For this method, this should be the one I should download and use right? (it's the closest one I found matching my current kernel): CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KG2-v4.1-CWM4.zip
Again, sorry for asking what may be pretty simple questions, but I really appreciate everyone's help!
Hi,
You can follow this (http://knowmydroid.com/guide/root-samsung-galaxy-s-2) step by step guide to root your SGS2.
1) Yes, rooting your phone means you cannot use KIES anymore. Its highly not recommended
2) Download any official firmware from SamFirmware.com and flash via ODIN
3) You can flash the KH3 version of CF-Root as well.

Hello,
you will still receive updates via KIES.
Unroot is possible with SuperOneclick. I have not tried so far. Every new firmware overwrites root. So if you root with ODIN and flash the rooted Firmware to the original one, KIES will allow to upgrade.
You could also use ODIA's insecure original kernels and use the ones provided from INTRATECH to have the original back on.
Never tried CF myself.
This phone is practically impossible not to root! Read everything thoroughly and take the dive, see you on the other side

Thanks for all the help! I did take the plunge ... and have no regrets!
I used CF's way, and have flashed back to my original stock kernel afterwards (courtesy of INTRATECH). Everything seems to be happy so far.
And now.. time to have some real fun with the phone
Thanks again everyone!
I also recently rooted with the CF-Root method. Congrats from a fellow HK/Taiwan phone user.

Hey all,
I haven't updated my MoPho since I got it, and was wondering what the benefits would be if I were to update to some of the stuff we have available now. Back when I got my phone, you couldn't change the boot loader without losing 4G.
Currently, I basically just have a rooted MoPho with System version: 45.3.5.MB855.Sprint.en.US
I also noticed in the MoPho Android Development subforum that there are some ICS and Jellybean CyanogenMods available.
Would I be able to update to System version: 45.3.7.MB855.Sprint.en.US safely and still be able to flash to a CyanogenMod? (If not, can I update to 45.3.6?)
If I can flash to a CyanogenMod, would you suggest I flash to C9 or C10? Is there are particular poster's mod I should use?
Thanks guys.
Edit: Was looking at the !!!LOOK HERE FIRST!!!! thread, I noticed I am not sure what Kernal I am running. I assume I'd have to update this as well? Where would I check what kernal I have?
Unlocking the boot loader unfortunately will still kill 4g, so if you make use of 4g and feel its necessary, you won't want to unlock. Also, if you have taken the most recent over the air update from moto (check in about phone and see if android version is 2.3.5) you won't be able to unlock. If you don't need 4g and are on 2.3.4, then unlocking and installing CM will unlock so much more potential of your phone it'll blow your mind. To install CM, you'll need to do the following:
1) Unlock your boot loader
2) Install CWM recovery
3) Install cyanogenmod or another rom
There are howtos for each of these all around the forum. As well as stepbystep videos on YouTube by qbking77. If you get hung up somewhere well help you out.
Just order a new atrix 4G. I have looked at the possible ROM's to use and I want to try out the Neutrino ROM. I have rooted devices before but I am new to Motorola devices. Please help me find the CURRENT steps I need to take to get to be able to run the Neutrino ROM? I have used the search bar but a lot of the threads that I have found contain links that are no longer valid. Such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600 Also I read a this link http://www.xda-developers.com/tag/motorola-atrix-4g/ which has me a worried that I may end up having an issue because all of the guides or seem to have been written before May 15th.
Thanks for taking a look and sorry if that was a little confusing I just didn't want to get flammed for being lazy. In the end I just want to know the most up to date way to get to the Neutrino ROM?? Below I will have included the specs. If I need to post anthing else please let me know
I recieved my phone last night and set it up on Striaght Talk.
System version: 45.31.0.MB860.AsiaRetail.en.03
Model Number: MB860
Android Version: 2.3.4
Your help is GREATLY APPRIECIATED!!
Also on the youTube videos they all seem to say "DO NOT DO TRY TO UNLOCK OR ROOT IF YOU HAVE 2.3.4 OR IT WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE!!"
Is this still the case or has there been a work around for it yet??
you have to unlock bootloader, but you can get FAIL with last step.
If you will get fail - don't worry, you can still unlock it via fastboot (tested on mine INTL Atrix, but every phone is a little bit different)
flash recovery, wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, flash rom, flash gapps. Done
Thanks ovitz. Can you point me to a thread describing how to unlock the bootloader on this phone?? I can do all the other stuff that you said I need to do after the bootloader is unlocked(clearing and flashing). Just really dont want to mess up my phone. I got 2 actually one for my girlfriend as well. I have java and all SDK/ADB and all programs that I may need. Just want a step by step for comfort.
Is the search not working for you?
http://cleanimport.xda/index.php?threads/1136261/
The thread is sticky even.
DISCLAIMER: I used this to unlock the BL on my Atrix, but mine is an older one, dating back to around Feb 2011. I do not know if this still works on brand new devices, however I am not aware of any other way to unlock (there probably isn't any other way really).
What is the other way (not using fastboot) to unlock this bootloader?? I tried fastboot oem unlock and got this message "INFOOEM unlock is not implemented"
Do I need to use an SBF with RSDlite or something to make this possible? If so please point me in the direction of that thread!?!
Thanks for anyone that can help

Sorry ravilov...Did not see your post as I had started a post and then ventured off to seach XDA and some other forums again as well. I have gotten to the link that you posted several times. I just saw that is was posted a long time ago and that there is a lot of things in that post that dont make too much sense to me.
First it says "All phones If you have unlocked then try to use 2.3.4 update zip from Motorola servers, then revert back to a "pre-unlock" version(1.8.3 or earlier on ATT) you will get bricked! Do not use the OTA via experimental servers and revert to older versions WITHOUT pudding preinstalled in your sbf. ATT ONLY Get your 1.8.3 with pudding from the pudding/unlocker section below."
Then shortly after is says "Disclaimer: Tested on 1.8.3 and 2.3.4 using sbf_flash and RSDLITE 5.3.1 or higher, usual warnings being responsible for your own actions yada yada"
So I dont really know if it works or not on the newer atrix's. I dont want to brick a brand new phone and I would just like to see that some one else has done it recently. So yes my eyes are open and search did work for me if you did not see the 2 other threads I mentioned. I just want something up to date, not from early 2011. If it can be confirmed that this works or If you know someone who has unlocked it recently, that would be great to hear from them.
Thanks for posting the link to that thread anyways though. Much apprieciated!
Can anyone tell me if the IHOP method to unlock bootloader will work with my phone?? I cant post in that thread because I do not have enough posts. Here are my specs so I could get some help with which patch to use with RSDlite.
System version: 45.31.0.MB860.AsiaRetail.en.03
Model number: MB860
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: N_01.100.00R
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
[email protected] #3
APflex version: GAS_ASIA_USAOLYGBSEART_P011
GAS_ASIA_USAOLYGBSEART_A003
GAS_ASIA_USAOLEMSEARET_M001
Build number: 4.5.2A-74_OLE-31
Something else I want to note is that it was bought on ebay as unlocked so I am assuming that is the radio. When I set up the APN for straight talk it did have the choices for AT&T US, AT&T US HSDPA, AT&T US Tether, AT&T US MMS. So this is why I am a little confused/scared as to which piece of pudding to use. It looks easy enough to unlock and clear the caches and flash the ROM I will want to use. Just would like to know which one to use.
Please, please somebody help!!:fingers-crossed:
Thanks you for taking a look to help. Much apprieciated!!!
For a phone with the Asia Retail firmware, you'll want to use RSD Lite to flash the IHOP SBF. Your phone will likely enter a soft brick as stated above, just proceed with the unlock commands in fastboot from the error screen.
Since its an international phone, if you don't load a new ROM soon after unlocking then you'll need to flash the "RAMfix" from the Development section here. Most ROMs have that built in to the kernel, though, so it's not needed if you're going directly to a ROM.
In case you need it in the future, you might want to locate your stock SBF for Asia Retail and keep it on hand. If you see the Atrix Firmware Superthread in the Dev section, find the later Page that has new links to updated download sites. It's a post with a link to all Gingerbread firmwares and a link to all Froyo firmwares. Yours will have "searet" in the name. Make sure it's the same version, 2.3.4. Flashing anything older will brick you.
Good luck!

Quite welcome.
APNs are usually set by your SIM, if it's provisioned properly and the phone supports it.

Good to know About the APNs. Just to let you know I unlocked, rooted, and flashed the ROM the day you first replied. So I've been running with a new ROM for 3 days and the battery life is great!!
If anyone out there has installed the Neutrino ROM, I have one more question. On the Neurino ROM page it say to do these 2 steps:
"Then, after booting, click on script manager, navigate to /system/etc and run NitroCharger.sh as ROOT and at BOOT!
It is also HIGHLY recommended to download the GPS Mod found in #2. Then you're done."
I tried flashing the GPS mod but I keep gettng an error. Then on my first boot I tried going to /system/etc and from there I do not know where to locate NitroCharger to run it for either. Any help on these two issues would be great!! Also another thanks for everyone for taking a look and helping.
I would post in that thread but I still dont have enought posts.
You really need to reread the original Neutrino thread, since all of this has been answered countless times.
YOU DO NOT FLASH THE GPS MOD DIRECTLY. Open the ZIP and read the instructions.
NitroCharger is only available as an OTA update, but you might reconsider if you really want it since it's been known to cause issues.
Again, I know the thread is very large, but whatever questions or issues you might have, it's very likely answered there already.
Thanks you for just answering, even though you think I should just reread the thread. That answered my questions very fast. I will just not run Nitrocharger, I thought it may casue problems if I could not get it to run, instead you said it is the opposite. As for the GPS mod I just did open up the .zip and read the readme. I pulled out the United_States.zip
Can I just use CWM recovery to flash the US.zip now or do I have to clear all my caches and the likes beforehand?
I know your very busy and I apprieciate the time you take to just look at it.
I have just started my own business and it is going great!! but I have been working 14+ hour days with usually 9 hours hour doing very hard physical labor 6 days a week!! I need to hire more employees soon, lol. I read the whole IHOP thread from front to back and the Neutrino thread but I was very exhasted and stayed up until 330 in the morning doing it!! So again I thank you for taking your time I appriciate it very MUCH that you are helping me to have a fun android experiance and also to learn something new to me!!
Yes, you can just go ahead and flash United_States.zip. No need to clear anything.
Awesome your the MAN!! Thanks again  :good:
Hello S2 community,
I've got S2 yesterday, and since then I'm trying to find a way to root it. And I need help.
I found dozens of tutorials, most of them are old, and I am not sure which one would work for me.
I know there's a lot threads like this, but well, I just want to be sure, 'cause I don't want to end up with hard bricked phone.
So, here's some info about my phone :
Model number : GT-I9100
Android version : 4.0.3 (tried to update, it says there's no new updates)
Baseband version : I9100ZSLPE
Kernel version : 3.0.15-I9100ZSLPE-CL232300
Build Number : IML74K.ZSLPE
I just want to have custom recovery(cwm), so I can flash ROMs and kernels.
I had HTC WIldfire S before, and I did root it, but it was an easy procedure, using zergrush exploit as far as I remember, since it was back in 2011.
By the way, is S2 S-OFF by default ? 'cause we had to unlock bootloader in order to root WFS.Or to be S-OFF.
Does S2 have unlocked bootloader by default ?
Thanks in advance!
Darko.
I am told that Samsung phones are some of the easiest to root....Sammy phones don't have locked bootloaders or S-Off (not sure what S-Off is, but as my upgrade will be an M8 I'm going to have to find out)....
With Samsung, the order is.....
1) root
2) flash CWM
3 flash custom ROMs.....
.....or.....
1) root and flash a kernel with CWM baked in via Odin (in one go).
2) flash custom ROMs.
There are plenty of guides stickeyed at the top of general that will point you in the right direction....just have a look.

I've just followed CF-ROOT tutorial.This is the file I used -> CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-PROPER-v5.4-CWM5.zip
It's for ZSLPE version too.Did it in 2 mins though, it's quite easy.
