[Q] nandroid backup through computer - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

i know a nandroid backup can be performed through recovery and the files will be saved on my sd card. but i only have a 2gb sd card and it is not enough to store my nand backup. is it possible to do a nandroid backup through my computer (windows 7)?
i have tried QtADB but the nandroid backup button is greyed out and i cannot click it.
i have coderom nexusace as my rom and cwm 4.0.

Nandroid bacup takes maximum 700 or 800 mb depending upon the no of data etc....copy ur sd card files to your computer..and then perform a backup..then copy the clockwork mod folder to your computer and delete it from the sd card.copy the sd card files from computer to sd card.whenever u need to backup copy the clockwork mod folder back to sd card from pc (using adapter if your phone does not boot )and backup from recovery.

It depends on what class would you buy kabayan. I suggest you buy a class 6 or class 10. 8gb class 10 is about P1000. Cdr? Dpende sayo. Hehe

If the ROM requires an ext partition, I would strongly suggest getting a Class 4 or better SD card. For what kind of partition, read the instructions for the particular ROM regarding filesystem/size.
Thanks again..
Ok..can u pls tell me which custom rom supports class 2 sd card...and which one doesnt need partition of sd card

This is not a matter of ROM. Class 2 is simply too slow, I would not suggest using with any custom ROM that relies on sd-ext partition. Best case will cause the phone to be slow.
CM7 ......i m using it on class 2 sd card .....
Partition Sdcard:
Partition SD: Partition's sdcard for apps2sd (this formats card so all non backed-up data is lost)
- will create ext2 partition (you will be asked for size of ext2 and cache)
just to clarify things,.the backups made through nandroid will not be erased if i partitioned sd card?

If you partition your SD card all data that was there before will be GONE. (Already written pretty explicitely in the text you quoted.)

sdcard replacement question

i just switched up my sd card. i had an 32gb class 4 san disk sd card on my evo 3d and i replaced it with a san disk ultra 32gb class 10 sd. i just partitioned the sd and restored all my files onto the new card. question is, is it best to do a fresh install of the rom im running or will it be ok to just restore the nandroid backup? thanks.
sorry if its a dumb question.

I don't see why restoring the nandroid would be a problem. Files are files, regardless of partitions.

Should be ok to restore the nandroid. Try it and if it's unstable, then do a fresh install.

right on. got it. thanks

Nandroid with a 64GB SD card?

It looks like CWM does not support my 64 GB SD card. Very disappointing. I sent an email to "[email protected]" because I bought the Touch version of ROM Manager to make backs up easier. I hope to hear back from the clockworkmod team.
In the meantime is there a work around? I could switch from CWM to TWRP if TWRP supports a 64 GB SD card using FAT32ext?
Can you let me know what you are doing to create NANDROIDS with 64GB SD cards?
thanks
TWRP supports the 64gb card with either FAT32 OR exFat. I've run mine both ways and nandroids are not a problem.

I switched to TWRP and was able to create a NANDROID on the 64GB SD card.
Do you know how to change to volume label on the SD Card? Is there an app for that?

Can i do partition internal storage ?

Hi.
Can i make something like partition on internal storage? i have i9300 16GB internal and it woyld me nice to make 2-3 partition like C, D, E for games, apps, photo. Or game and apps, photo, rest and maybe protect before changing roms. I liek to change roms but its so bored installing all the times the same apps.
Also i want to buy mini sd card but waiting for answer bcs i dont know what to buy and ill install every apps and game on sd card so before change rom ill still have on sd card.
Don't mess with the internal storage, it isn't an sd card and you'll hard brick the phone.
Put everything on your external sd, leave the internal as empty as possible -this will reduce wear on the nand memory.

When changing roms you still would have to reinstall all games, nevermind if on internal or external sd. Just use Titanium Backup to make it easy and as said don't touch internal memory!

I don't think so as the base app or at least some parts is still installed in internal memory whereas e. G. Save games you could copy to external and copy back later if you can find the files.

Cannot Backup to SD Card

I picked up a new 64gb SD card and tried to use TWRP to backup a ROM and no luck trying to backup to the card, can do internal memory no problem.
Anyone think of a reason for this? I can move files to the card via USB and ES Explorer so it isn't a writable problem.
Maybe it needs formatting to the correct form?
I had to do that to my trusty 8gb sd card I've had for years to get it to work.

But how do you explain being able to transfer files to it while in the phone, and also download directly to it?
Are you able to choose the external card from within TWRP for backups or is it not even an option there. It should be there if you touch the bar that says internal.. Sorry not rooted ATM so I can't see exactly what it says.
