Feature only working on froyo now. Simply Galaxy 2.8 has it but only some vibrants allow it to work, basically the newer models.

[Q] Call recording on ICS

Has anyone got two way voice recording working on any of the ICS releases, whether a MOD or a 3rd Party app?
I tried a couple (killer mobile and call recorder) but no luck.
same here. call recorder always worked 100%
Anyone? Still can't find one that will work....aaarrrggg.
I would like to know too. I heard Samsung has removed the necessary call recording libraries in ICS. Hope that is not true.
afaik it will work soon, becuase the ics kernel sources are published today. that will grant many developers to fix everything which cant be fixed before. afaik the call recording problem inlcuded!
Looking forward to this. I loved that on GB. There is a tutorial @ "Original Android Development" category (for GB), maybe someone can start from there to make it work on ICS?

Before I use CallRecorder but now it does not work ok
me too. that was very useful as it recorded automatically
I can confirm, call recorders does not work on ICS.
I tried almost all available from the market, but no success.
I need it too

This seems to be an useful thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1482721 - this actually points to a easy way of getting call recording functionality back!
Here's my understanding from the thread. Basically there are three files in /system/lib that are used for call recording API -
libaudioflinger.so
libaudio.so
libaudiopolicy.so
(It's interesting to note that out of these, only the first is there in ICS.)
If we copy the files from 2.3.6, and replace/add the files, there's a good chance that we will get back call recording. Now to get these files... does anybody have the older version, or know how to extract these files from the ROMs?
SOLVED XD - Need to know if it's reliable
Hi,
I have tried "Auto Call Recorder" (free) and seems to work ok.
Without any patchs or modifications on the rom it works ok recording from mic (depending on you it could be wnought or not).
QUESTION 1:
Someone could tell us if this program is realiable? (I mean, if we can trust in it).
Because it have several permissions that I'm not sure it should have or if it's neccesary.
It has 100.000 - 500.000 installations and 4 star score
How can we be sure if this program is not spying us?
RECORDING WITH API (not mic)
Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551353 I have found a thread where there are two ICS libs (different from the GB ones) that sould fix the problem and should allow to record from API, so we could get clear and loud sound.
Files are audio.primary.exynos4.so & audio_policy.exynos4.so in /system/lib/hw
Files can be downloaded from http://www.mediafire.com/?r2wgv821w1uutzd or from http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=955906&d=1332235902 (both are binary same)
QUESTION 2:
Again reliability.
Someone could tell us if this libs are realiable? (I mean, if we can trust in it).
I have downloaded "ZSLPE" that is supposed to have call recording and this libs are the same that the original in XXLPQ, and are different of the downloable ones that I say before (supposely patched).
If ZSLPE have call recording, why libs are the same that XXLPQ?
Where are this "patched" libs from?
Again the same question, are this "patched" libs reliable?
Perhaps I could be some paranoid, but I don't want a spy on my phone or something worse, and I want to be sure that all my phone conversations (or any other personal data) are not sent to anyone.
Probably is stupid to think that anyone could be interested in my bored conversations, but those are mine...
Greetings
^ Thanks given
For security concern, you may want to try out LBE Privacy Guard... I use it. It can help you to deny certain permissions for any program which you think has no business asking for the permission.
You may question that program more though, as it asks for a lot more permissions in return for the power!
Personally, I would trust the libraries and the auto call recorder - the permissions it asks seem legit. I checked the hack works with Total Recall too, so if you feel more comfortable you could use that.

Thanks to everyone who has been responding it looks like we might not be too far away from call recording on ICS. WooHoo!

I installed the two .so files mentioned in this thread into /system/lib/hw -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551353&page=2
After a while this worked for me, for both Total Recall and Auto Call Recorder. I have DXLP7 with CFRoot LP7 kernel.
Alternatively, according to the same thread, in ZSLPE call recording works from start.
Let me know if that helps, or I can answer any other questions to get it working for you.

in phone settings - extend settings, you can set it automatic for incomming and outgoing calls. works like a charm here and records both sides (i'm using resurrection rom 1.0 too)

[Q] any ICS roms with call recording?

as subject really?
I'm running resurrection ROM and it's got it.
I have been wondering the same thing. I want the same Record feature that Checkrom uses. Built into the dialer. I wish I knew where to look or what to do to try to do it myself... Would be a good project. For now I wont migrate to ICS until I can find a call recorder. I use it for Tech calls that I need to review or record to CMDB later.

side note - anyone else annoyed that things like this are left out even though it's only illegal in a few US states? in the UK it's fine to record your own calls for example. grrr
can i extract an apk (dialer or something) in resur rom and add it to another? want to know if a 20 hour download time is worth it?

Best Most Stable Rom That Support 2 Way Call Recording?

So trying to set up a friends phone and I'm starting to get extremely frustrated. The goal is for me to set up the phone to be as stable as possible with flawless 2WCR. I personally used Infected Rom without any issues for months when I had the evo3D so that is the rom I suggested. The latest build of Infected R246 records calls flawlessly out of the box. However this build has random reboot issues & gets stuck in a boot loop, I checked other users are having similar problems. Was suggested to try build 218fixed, I tried that random reboots seem to have been cured however now 2WCR doesn't work. CallRecoder detects and sets it to evo3D & 2WCR patch settings by default. It shows it's recording during calls but when the call ends I get a little popup on the bottom saying "Error has occurred while encoding..." Using wav for recording which worked fine on the 246 build I also want the best quality.
So I'm not sure if this error is from the kernel not being patched or what. Kernel links seem to be all dead I'm not sure why I was going to try the Anthrax Kernel. I really rather not use a custom kernel I want it to work out of the box to be as stable as possible. I'm not sure how to correctly patch the kernel that comes with the rom or if the error is even being caused from that.
I need to set this phone up to be as stable as possible with 2WCR at the kernel level. Does anyway have any rom that they use or have tested that 2WCR works well without issues, reboots or bugs? Again just looking for the most stable experience possible while maintaining 2WCR at kernel level. Any suggestions for a good setup would be appreciated. I'm sick of messing with the phone & not sure where to go from here.
Thanks

Your so helpful, you just come here to troll or what? It's none of your business but if you must know it's for a friend he answers phones for a service company and it's a extremely useful tool for recording all customer information without needing pen and paper. Thanks for the awesome help though.

Mean ROM GB out of the box comes with the Dodova kernel which supports 2WCR. I don't use it, but as far as I know, you just need a two way calling recording app from the Store. As for stability, it has been very stable for me when I have used it.
Doesn't Google Voice have that option? I think if you press 4 during the call it records. I could be wrong though...

Hi
I'd like to ask about 2WCR with Evo 3D GSM. There are some topics about this but all of them are about CDMA (not GSM) or seems to be dead (not supported anymore, dead links, etc). Like that post above about Dodova kernel - wonderful but for CDMA...
Do you know about any kernel that supports 2WCR? I've heard that CyanogenMod has that feature which suggests that it has to be implemented in MiRaGe's kernel but I haven't found any confirmation.
Can you help me?
*) Before you ask... In my country it is perfectly legal to record calls. All you have to do is to inform guy you're talking to at the beginning of call that you're recording conversation. It's useful when talking about business with thousands of details you have to memorize....

I recently was looking for such information.
The answer is simple.
You check yourself if you install Call Recorder in the system, including root.
After you install the application
Settings -> Recording -> Device -> HTC EVO 3D.
The program will default recording by the kernel.
2WCR works fine on ICS Stock ROM with root.

Recording voice calls?

Is there some way for me to record calls with my SGS3 using the native dialer on the phone etc?. I am not interested in an app that uses the external microphone etc but rather one that basically "ties" it self in with the phone and records it directly?.
But is that remotely possible on the SGS3?
not sure whether this is what you are asking but try this custom rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705866
it has voice recording feature in calls and i use it quite regularly. download the v2.2 version though, its based on stock ics so its very stable.
quite a number of custom roms have this feature too
hope this helps!

The SGS2 could do it without flashing a custom rom. And I didn't say I didn't want an app, I said I didn't want it to record using the speaker as a lot of the recording apps do. IF you know of an app that can record natively WITHOUT speakerphone then I am interested as well, but speakerphone recording is just no go.
I think that this mod is made for you!

Hi guys,
This is Viber's rep.
@jettlee29 - It sounds like the typical Custom ROM issue - some custom ROMs alter the microphone definitions of your phone, causing Viber not to recognize the phone's microphone properly. That is the reason that Viber cannot transmit your sound to the other side. We discussed this issue in detail with our users in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25865775#post25865775
Please note that in that thread, a workaround was suggested *by a user* (and not officially by us) that seemed to have solved the problem for Galaxy S+S2 users.
Let us know if you have any issues.

the fixes in that other thread dont do anything unfortunately.

Please note that at this stage we don't officially support custom ROMs with Viber. Running Viber on a custom ROM results in various side effects (sometimes total lack of functionality), but we can't afford to support all custom ROMs out there
We are continuously working to adapt Viber to more and more ROMS, but meanwhile - you might want to contact the ROM developer for further support - they may be able to resolve this issue. In addition, it would be a good idea to test Viber on Stock ROM on that same phone, in order to see if that indeed is the source of the problem.
i am currently using a custom rom (padawan 8) and it works fine, worked fine on stock ATT rom too, just wanted it workin on CM10.1, i am going to try it on my nexus 7 to see if it works there on cm10.1 to see if its just note it wont work on
i figured since CM was one of the biggest if not biggest custom roms, viber would support it
appreciate your help anyways though!

As we said, from time to time we try to adapt to some ROMs, but unfortunately it is not a 'strict policy' and as a whole, we don't officially support ROMs
We will wait for news from your testings with the different ROMs, hopefully good news
yeah, same for me, tried all the fixes and different kernels but nothing seems to work.
Can't run 4.1.2 ROMS as they have so many issues but on 4.2.2 Viber just doesn't work.
So it's either ICS or no Viber 4.2.2 for me.

viber review
Viber is an application for smart phones which gives an instant messaging platform to the users and is developed by Viber Media. Besides text messaging and images, it also allows users to exchange audio and video messages. It works on both Wi- Fi and 3G networks. It was initially launched only for IPhone in order to give competition to Skype. But now it is also available for Blackberry, Android, Symbian, Windows Phone and many other devices. Its functionality varies for different platforms with Android and iOS being the first to receive all the new features on other viber review
@adeelhayat90 -
Viber currently does not integrate with Android's native contact list unfortunately. In future versions we hope to bring back this feature, and once we have news we'll let you know.
We apologize for the temporary inconvenience.
