[Q] viber and 4.2.2 roms - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

has anyone got calls to work with viber and any of the 4.2.2 roms? Messaging works great but when call there is no sound at all. Regular non vibercalls work its just in the app and on 4.2.2. On padawan 8 it works fine
If anyone knows a solution woild be appreciated as i love the 4.2.2 roms
Thanks in advance

Maybe a kernel problem ... I don't use viber .

Whats viber? Anyways on Jamie's ROM it has that you just need to flash Chris Feb 29th kernel.
ROM: Jamie's 4.2.2. Preview 7\Jellybam v6.4.0
Kernel: 4ges Feb.29th
Recovery: TWRP
:thumb up: Give Thanks! :thumb up:

viber is voip app, i tried jaimes rom, i really liked it, tried many kernals on it, but all same problem, just no sound in a call for the program, messaging works fine regular phone calls work fine all works cept for call sound in viber
just hoping someone else who uses the app could find a solution, 4.2.2 is so much nicer than 4.04 to me, battery life so much better

Hi guys,
This is Viber's rep.
@jettlee29 - It sounds like the typical Custom ROM issue - some custom ROMs alter the microphone definitions of your phone, causing Viber not to recognize the phone's microphone properly. That is the reason that Viber cannot transmit your sound to the other side. We discussed this issue in detail with our users in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25865775#post25865775
Please note that in that thread, a workaround was suggested *by a user* (and not officially by us) that seemed to have solved the problem for Galaxy S+S2 users.
Let us know if you have any issues.

the fixes in that other thread dont do anything unfortunately.
its with all cm 10.1 roms, as CM is like a super popular custom rom i figured it would work but i guess not, are u guys looking into the issue on CM or not gonna mess with it? ill start lookin for another voip app i guess if not lookin into it
ty for the help though

Please note that at this stage we don't officially support custom ROMs with Viber. Running Viber on a custom ROM results in various side effects (sometimes total lack of functionality), but we can't afford to support all custom ROMs out there
We are continuously working to adapt Viber to more and more ROMS, but meanwhile - you might want to contact the ROM developer for further support - they may be able to resolve this issue. In addition, it would be a good idea to test Viber on Stock ROM on that same phone, in order to see if that indeed is the source of the problem.

i am currently using a custom rom (padawan 8) and it works fine, worked fine on stock ATT rom too, just wanted it workin on CM10.1, i am going to try it on my nexus 7 to see if it works there on cm10.1 to see if its just note it wont work on
i figured since CM was one of the biggest if not biggest custom roms, viber would support it
appreciate your help anyways though!

As we said, from time to time we try to adapt to some ROMs, but unfortunately it is not a 'strict policy' and as a whole, we don't officially support ROMs
We will wait for news from your testings with the different ROMs, hopefully good news

yeah, same for me, tried all the fixes and different kernels but nothing seems to work.
Can't run 4.1.2 ROMS as they have so many issues but on 4.2.2 Viber just doesn't work.
So it's either ICS or no Viber 4.2.2 for me.

Viber on 4.2.2 custom roms!
hi i got it working fine! i installed the viber 2.3.2 i think. and its all working fine. the newer vibers call function is not working in 4.2.2... thanks!

viber review
Viber is an application for smart phones which gives an instant messaging platform to the users and is developed by Viber Media. Besides text messaging and images, it also allows users to exchange audio and video messages. It works on both Wi- Fi and 3G networks. It was initially launched only for IPhone in order to give competition to Skype. But now it is also available for Blackberry, Android, Symbian, Windows Phone and many other devices. Its functionality varies for different platforms with Android and iOS being the first to receive all the new features on other viber review

@adeelhayat90 -
Viber currently does not integrate with Android's native contact list unfortunately. In future versions we hope to bring back this feature, and once we have news we'll let you know.
We apologize for the temporary inconvenience.

Viber not compatible for TransX ROM

Hi,
This is a member of the Viber R&D Team!
If you are running Viber on a customized ROM, it may result in side effects. At this stage, due to the large variety of customized ROMs available, we support only the basic ones, such as CM7 and MIUI.
We are continuously working to adapt Viber to more and more ROMS, but meanwhile -you might want to contact the ROM developer for further support - they may be able to resolve this issue.
If anyone has any questions/suggestions for Viber, please feel free to let us know, and we will address them shortly.
Thanks,
Viber Team
Thank You Viber Team. I have tried most cm7 roms and this is the first time that I've encountered.
Yes. I think its TransX ROM problem.

Does Viber have any dependencies ?
If yes it might be just what the ROM is lacking

What specifically do you mean by "dependencies" ?
Viber "looks" for certain features in a phone that it needs to utilize, such as the microphone settings. If the custom ROM completely alters or even overrides those, then Viber unfortunately cannot "know" or guess what the phone's settings are.

As we explained above, Viber 2.2 will hopefully address those issues, and once installed on ICS, it should run smoothly
We'd appreciate getting your feedback after you install Viber 2.2 (released soon).

Could be great if you have a built-in backup/restore feature for the messages received.
We've added a built-in exporting option for your message history (found in the "More") tab.
About the importing option - we are considering to add it in the future.
Meanwhile, we invite you to enter our Feature Request page and post your suggestion there, or join an existing similar suggestion. The more people join on a request, the faster it will become reality

[Q] Viber app doesn't make the phone vibrate when a calls come through it

Hi, just noticed this recently on my S3. I have viber running on it. Whenever I get a call on viber, it doesn't seem to vibrate the phone. I have checked the necessary settings but haven't managed to get it working..
I have a HTC Desire HD, I can surely say that when a calls come in on viber on it does vibrate the phone..
Has anyone else come across this situation?

I'm running factory JB Samsung Rom and have the phone rooted.
I have tried uninstalling it and have done a reinstall but haven't had any luck with getting viber to vibrate the phone when a call comes in through it..
I have also checked this on my friend's Galaxy S3 which is running factory JB Samsung Rom and it's not rooted. Viber doesn't vibrate the phone when a call comes in either. The same goes for my sister's Galaxy S2 which is running Stock ICS Rom from Samsung.
Thanks for acknowledging the issue. Hopefully you guys fix this soon.

Done, I've logged the issue, hopefully there's a fix to this soon.
No Vibrate
Not unique to Viber, I reported this about no vibrate when message received in silent mode despite vibrate being turned on. This is only the case when updated to stock JB and not on ICS hence one of the reasons I have rolled back to ICS
Also my contacts don't update with Viber, I got a lot of friends on viber but it only shows 6. Update contacts don't work also.
Doesnt vibrate and theres no sound..have been like this for a few days now..I have changed my rom a couple of times the past week and havent seen any changes in viber. I have an i9300 and my cousin has an i9250 running stock rom and not rooted. I have experienced the same problem in it also but not all the time. Also there is a bug with the proximity sensor.

The source of this issue could greatly vary. Please read this short page in our HelpDesk, outlining some possible workarounds that will help reboot synchronization of the contact list: http://bit.ly/rRtPqk
(The instructions refer to iPhone, but are relevant to all phones nevertheless).
@ahmedmaaiee -
Are you sure both of you are running the latest version of Viber installed? Did you make sure no other app is colliding with Viber?
The proximity Sensor issue, for example, should have been fixed many versions ago.

yep! I've checked. we are both using the latest versions. only my i9300 experiences the proximity sensor issue. not all the time. it shouldnt be colliding with any other applications as I havent installed much after the last flash.

Still haven't received any update
We are still at the last stages of development and testing of our new update for Viber for Android. We are doing the best we can so the update is released as soon as possible, but we also want to make sure it's not released half-baked and with bugs.
We hope to have good news for our users soon.

Viber....Bug !!

Since 14 days and i am facing battery drain 1st on my old SGS3 then on the SGS3 LTE and now on my SGN2
the main problem is that phones never goes in deep sleep they stay always on 200MHZ.. and on the battery use it always give me
Media Procces or Media Storage keep waking
therefor i asked a lot over here and they all said either kernel bug or there is something like corrupted media ( pix, songs, or videos )
so i did a clean flash without the external sd card, with now media on the internal card and still the same,
i tired with external and withour external still the same
i tested several kernels nothing happened...
but i realized that once i use my normally using apps the drain occurs
none of watchdog or betterbattery stat clear me what is the problem just say media.proccess is always awake
at the end i tried every app by it self and found that first you register to Viber those things happen....
and if i go back in time since the bug started its almost since the last update for VIBER
take a look on the screen shots of cpu spy with and without Viber, and please just check if you also having this issue...
maybe i am a little bit crazy, but when this exist on all and it is always effecting our media...maybe then our media are
no more safe, like hackable or some where like that, i mean Viber can easily read our media in there server, as it was ago i didnt remember which app or what what the service....
So please just try to check and confirm if it is exist or not

I had the same problem with newest version of Viber, so had to revert to old ones as well to fix the Audioout_2 wakelock which prevent my mobile to go to deep sleep but instead was keeping it at 200 Mhz all the time, I used BetterBatteryStats to collect that info, also the addition Viber made to use the system sound instead of Viber's did not had any kind of good effect at all, I tried it all I could with the newest version before I had to downgrade it, even tried to run it as system app which did not worked either.
Hope the issue will be resolved soon.

@mrlove6 -
Allow us to respond to the different parts of your message:
- About not being able to receive the code:
Please try removing Viber, wait 24 hours, reinstall and try again (make sure you try both the SMS and the automated call options).
In addition, you may try to register to Viber with a different number (for example - your home landline number, a friend's number, etc.), in order to determine whether the problem is specific with your number, or a general one.
- About the Custom ROMs:
We don't believe that we are "blaming" anyone for anything. We, as an application developer, say loud and clear: we don't *officially* support Custom ROMs. This doesn't mean that ALL versions of Viber will NEVER work with ALL custom roms out there in the world. It merely means that, since we don't test Viber with all of the custom roms in the world, some problems may arise with some of them. We simply don't have the resources and manpower to develop and test full support of Viber with all Custom ROMs.
- About the battery drain:
First, please make sure that in Viber's settings, the "WiFi sleep policy" is set to your preference (so that Viber does not keep your WiFi on when your phone idles).
Now, we are looking into this issue, but as far as we know, the same phones you mentioned, with Stock ROMs, show no significant problem of battery drain.
However, we would still like to assist you and get to the bottom of this issue, before we release our new major update for Viber (version 3.0).
We kindly ask that you take a minute and report the details of the problem to our support team using this direct link: http://bit.ly/ukGVJ0 (when you submit the ticket, please make sure to add the URL of our conversation). With this information, our development team will hopefully be able to find the source of the problem, and ultimately resolve it.

I really appreciate your answer and your great effort and time building a great app like viber specially that it is free....
Just to clear some points, for the code...I have 5 sim cards at home almost tried 4 of them, but that not the point we are negotiating right now
I will take your advice and check about the wifi sleep policy IF I was able to setup and register any of my sim cards..but just to make it clear what I think and almost sure about that it is not issue belongs to wifi, because as listed about is two differents issue which are Mediaserver and Audioout_2
I clearly know how impossible to test on all custom roms as long as there is daily more than 10 builds, what make me feel that the problem is with viber update itself is that I have tested more that 10 custom roms and all gave the same results in battery drain NOT only on the Galaxy Note II N7100 but also Galaxy S3 I9300 and on Galaxy S3 LTE I9305, not to forget that the issue wasnt exist on old version specially the great one 2.2.3 as I remember
In all cases ill take the survey as soon as I can hoping we ( me and all other users facing same bug ) have this get sorted in the next update
One more time a great great thanks for you and for the whole team of Viber

We are investigating the battery drain issue in our company this very moment, and we are planning to make tweaks and improvements on our next upcoming major new version (Viber 3.0). Meanwhile, as I explained, the specific details from your device might be of help to us resolving this issue. We would appreciate if you could describe the problem in detail in the direct link to the ticket that I provided in my previous response to you.
Thanks again, and we apologize for the temporary inconvenience
hope that this problem will be fixed on the next "major" upgrade that you were mentioning...

Your application is causing wakelocks in my phone by keeping wakelock on Audio_4 in my HTC One XL with Jelly Bean. After uninstalling your app the phone goes to sleep immediately.
If you need me to provide some data please let me know how I can do that.
Thanks.

Thanks for the info!
Please note that at this stage we don't officially support custom ROMs with Viber. Running Viber on a custom ROM results in various side effects (sometimes total lack of functionality), but we can't afford to support all custom ROMs out there.
Aside from that, note that we are considering an option for adjusting Viber's volume in the future (at the moment it utilizes Android's main volume settings). If we have news about this, we'll let you know.

:good: the option would be really appreciated!
Sometimes i have to decrease normal call's volume and increase it to the max with viber.
Separate controls would be useful.
same problem on blackberry curve
Hi
I have the same problem with Viber on a Blackberry Curve
The volume on Viber is much lower that when using as a normal phone
I too would be interested in when viber is going to put in the ability to increase the volume
Thanks

I suggest 2 ideal:
+ Add Send voice message function to viber - by adding "Send voice message" button beside "Send Location" - I think this is really most interesting function.
+ Please increase volume in call, It is really too low. Or Please add In-Call Volume for easy controlling.
Hi @eyestorm -
Thank you for your feedback and ideas!
The first one you mentioned is already in the oven
The second one is something we're trying to look into and improve for next versions. We hope that with newer versions of Viber, you will find the volume increasing. We apologize for the temporary inconvenience.

I have the same problem too with a HTC One X on official stock and on Revolution HD
The volume is much too low, I made a uninstall as there is no way to use it.
Yesterday a friend of mine got a call on his Iphone 4 and the sound was great..
I think Viber does not focus on Android or Windows as the app on my laptop has also a low volume..
I again use Skype and whatsapp on my HTC.4
If Viber wil solve the problem I will be happy to install it again..
Cheers to all, Peter

I dont think I need to report that as my problem is the same with the others, low volume
That is true. However, details (and possibly even logs) from your specific phone and configuration might be unique in order for us to understand the problem.
We are of course investigating the problem at the moment regardless, but we always invite our users to report issues and give the details of their specific phones to our Support Team so we have as much information as possible that might speed up the fixing process.
Note that version 4.0 is just around the corner, so we would appreciate if you could let us know if the problem persists there.

Call volume is still an issue
It's so silent, even if I hit the slider to the max i can't hear anything.
Regular calls are working fine.
