Hmmmm. Since this is only my third day with the phone and I'm not quite ready to root it, I guess I'll have to turn off the notification or system sounds (which??) at night. A VERY bad concept on Samsung's part. Wonder what the thought process was?
BTW, if I have the screen set to shut off in 10 minutes, will it if the charger is plugged in when the battery charge indicator fires? Is there a setting I'll need to change?
ANSWERED ELSEWHERE. It DOES turn off!
Thanks.

I specifically lobbied Samsung last year for the battery charge notifications to be added .I dont want my phone connected to a power source when its no longer required .

Since I only plug mine in when I go to bed, maybe a CHOICE would be the answer???? I think we're past the "one size fits all" era for cell phones.
Can I ask why you "dont want [your] phone connected to a power source when its no longer required"?

So you are the culprit who has made every Samsung SGS2 owner's night hell!!!??
Seroiusly, they should have given us a choice. I think 95% of owners do NOT want this notification. Most people charge their mobiles at night

Choice yes good idea .
I dislike any turned on electrical apparatus left overnight .
Why well ask your local fire officer .

Well not everyone charges their phone at night, including me. Besides, IMO it's a good thing to have, it just stays there for 2 seconds, it is kinda pitch but not that much to wake someone from sleep. If there is something embarrassing and not needed, that would be the Low Battery warning sound which keeps coming in some intervals, I always turn that damn thing OFF.
Regards.

I leave my phone in a dock at work which also charges via usb. As soon as the phone is charged it beeps load enough for every one to hear. If I take it off the dock to talk on the phone, after I put it back on it beeps again. I leave it on the dock to use myphoneexplorer for messaging through the day from my pc. A choice to disable the beep would be welcome.

I always plug my phone in at night. In my case I set the phone to silent (therefore the battery charge does not make a sound).
To make sure I get important calls during the night (if needed), I use Llama to activate "Noisy Contacts" which will use any volume level (user set) for incoming calls, but all other volume can be set to 0%.
Hope this helps!

Hi
I am in the same camp as you jje, I am on a custom rom and most of them have taken it out it seems like a lot of people have a problem with a 1/2 second beep
but they wont put the phone on silent because if they get a poke on FB or a sms thats ok but a low beep kills them.
If you know a way to get the battery back in let me know..Thanks

You might need to contact HTC.
Hopefully you didn't unlock your boot loader because that voids your warranty. If you did you would know you did its not something you do un-ententionaly. As for auto rotate it could be you accidentally turned it off on quick settings idk if thats on stock but it is on mine but i have a custom rom. As for your phone not turning on try it being plugged into the wall it never hurts to try it has happened to me before if not I would suggest skipping T-Mo and going directly to HTC for advice as they know their phones the best. In addition if they only have a sending it in solution then I would contact T-Mo and tell them your issue. Then you could most likely take it into a store and get a replacement no problem as it seems your phone is pretty new. The phone is pretty new not as new but it never rules out the possibility for a bug as even older well profound technology still has bugs that can cause a major system crash. Happens to me a lot when flying aircraft. Hope this helps.

Do it like this n should work. Plug the charger into the prime while its on. Then you power down the device like that should stay off.

could the outlet be pushing so many volts or something it just turns on i highly doubt this but who knows maybe its the outlet or something

same thing happens on my DX running Miui. I think its the firmware. For example, some of you let ur Atp charge 8 hours before booting up, mine didn't even let me have that option, it just turned on

Really? What would possibly be the logic?
I can shut off & charge my phone, camera, laptops, GPS watch, BT speakers, BT earpiece, 2 way radios, etc & not have them power on if they are off when I plug them in.
So... whats the logic here on the only device I have ever seen or used that does this?
I say its a bug and if not a poor design.

"Answering" my question with a question is not an answer.
So again, if a product is off & you decide to charge it for whatever reason you decide - and that reason is irrelevant really - what is the "logic" behind having it power on? What purpose does that serve. Just because you want to charge it does not mean you want it on any more than turning it on means you want it to auto play music. Doing 1 does not logically imply you want the other so what is their logic in deciding for you it will power up?

Maybe the Prime cannot differentiate between being plugged in to a computer to be accessed or being plugged into a wall outlet for charging. So the compromise is that it always turns on.

That to me is.... a bug
As said before, it was also the case on the transformer TF101 and apparently on other devices as well... No idea what the logic behind it is (and I'm one of the guys turning his devices off when sleeping so it's a minor annoyance for me too, extremely minor though).

Damn USB issues........again!

So I know there are several threads on this, some by me, but this time the issue is very weird.
So i'm on my third phone now, previous 2 had the USB port going wacky. Phone thinking it was charging when it wasn't plugged in, computer not recognizing phone anymore etc.
So problem has now started again on phone number three. Weird thing is this time the phone seems to not have this problem all day. Problem starts at night, so i'm assuming maybe a battery percentage left triggers it. The other weird aspect of this is that right before the phone starts bugging out, (charging, uncharging, and back, over and over while not plugged in), the car mode symbol appears in the status bar, and starts flashing on and off. If I am fast enough to catch it,I can deactivate car mode. When all this starts happening, phone also starts to get stuck and freezes up. This issue is really getting annoying. Love this phone but this is starting to make me crazy. Yes I got the phones at different stores. What do I uninstall to just get rid of car mode, considering I never use it?

Seems to be whatever USB cable you are using or the way you carry this phone is the problem. No way you get 3 phones the same exact problem in a row. FYI, Samsung Focus and Captivate had the similar problem in the past. Car mode is just the result of your USB port problem instead of the cause of it. What happens is something shorted out or bridged the pins of the USB port to make the phone think it is conneted to a car dock (IIRC, car dock uses a 300k resistor to bridge two pins). Some ppl with Focus or Captivate reported success by blowing out the dirt in the USB port.
As well as cleaning the USB port with an alcohol swab

The only USB cable I've used with all of them is the one they come with. I've used the alcohol cleaning method as well as blowing in the port, hopefully getting out any thing causing issue. This seems to help temporarily. The strangest part of all this to me is with this latest phone, I have zero problems all day. When I lay down in bed for the night and start using the phone is when it starts to happen. My battery life can range from 60%-30% at that time, so I don't know if that is a connection to this issue. Maybe the phone is possessed. It always seems to take about 2-3 weeks for this problem to arise. I always have the phone in my pocket, so I guess something must be happening with that. Luckily with this latest one, I bought the best buy insurance, it's just after awhile they're gonna start wondering why this keeps happening to me, and if it's my fault. The USB port problems can sometimes make it difficult/impossible to flash back to stock.

Useless responses are no better than useless threads imo.
To the OP. The likelihood of that many bad phones in a row with the exact same problem is pretty rare. Take a look at anything that's remained consistent through all the phones, and try replacing that item(s).

+1 for replacing the cord and power brick. Alot less quality is put into them compared to the phone. Just make sure not to buy cheap. And never plug your phone into anything cheap (i.e. car radio usb port, off brand charger, ect) That's not saying everything else is bad. But why risk it. Especially when you can buy brand name chargers off ebay for $5 or less.

I've only used the supplied USB cord, every time. Now even when my phone isn't confused if it's charging or not, the battery life is now awful. 5-6% per hour drain. Used to be 1-2%. No changes made by me. Also the phone has become super laggy at times. Feel like i'm using my cappy again. My apologies for starting this post. I knew I would most likely get crap for it, but my issue is very strange, IMO, compared to mine and others previous experiences. I also figured if I added to an old post, it would go unnoticed.

If he is getting 5% per hour drain at idle, yes that is horrible battery life. SGS2 is fairly easily capable of 1% per hour idle drain.

You've used the same cord with all 3? or a new cord with each one?
It sounds like you've got a boatload of issues going on. Personally i'd do a wipe and try a fresh install without installing any additional stuff to be sure the hardware is fine.. Once you've verified that start adding apps to see if it was a specific one causing the issue. (there's other ways to troubleshoot this, but a fresh wipe is the most straight forward and simple IMO)

i suppose.
However he said before it was 1-2 percent an hour. That's pretty much impossible while being used, only get numbers like that while not in use (idle). Even %5 an hour while being used isn't likely to happen. Guess i just figured it had to be in ref to idle drain.

hot potato phone

During the night, my phone got soo hot, I could not even touch it. It was charging while this happened and I think it happened because the phone went under the pillow and did not have proper ventilation. When I noticed I unplugged the charger and took out the battery. After it cooled I tried turning on the phone, it initially went to the charging icon then turned off and I can't get it to turn.on. CAN ANYONE HELP??
I wouldn't mind going to ATT and getting another one but its rooted. Do you think I would be ok to return it with out them finding out? I can't get to recovery mode to flash to stock.
I tried searching for the answer..couldn't find one, most people were able to turn theirs on.
Plug in your usb cable to your computer and hold the volume buttons (aka get into download mode), leave your phone on there for a couple hours to charge and then proceed to boot normally. Hopefully this works for you, if not, buy a new battery from Amazon (needs NFC, preferably Samsung OEM). I would suggest getting this http://www.amazon.com/Samsung--CGPK...UEE0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327948609&sr=8-1 so you will be able to charge your other battery if you are not able to charge it through download mode.(includes an extra battery too)
Hey thanks for the advice, I'll try this when I get home...say hypothetically it doesn't work...and it can't be.saved.and turned on...could the warranty department tell if I have.voided my warranty by rooting it?
If you tripped the flash counter, possibly, but I've read that most stores don't check it anyways and just get you a replacement.

You know how people always say that the other side of the pillow is colder? Well since it's winter, people want the other side Warner and use their phones to warm it up.
I didn't mean to put it there ...kinda just slipped in

I was thinking the same thing. I thought it was the same thread, then I thought the guy just copied and pasted the other guy.
On topic... just let the phone cool down, and then see if it works. If it does, good. If not, try ATT and they should accept it. They can't find out you rooted it if the phone doesnt work.
Off topic- a friend of mine took the shell of an iPod touch And put quarters in it for weight, and returned it.
You need to wait a while when you charge the phone before booting it up, the phone needs some time to get enough power to turn itself on without turning off immediately.
after the battery cools down, it should still work, hopefully you won't need a new battery

I can tell you why Mr. Smarty Pants.
Back in the days before smartphone existed they phones did not get this hot. So, when an unsuspecting customer gets a new dual core heating pad they have no clue that they generate this much heat thus using their past charging habits ala under a pillow.

I put mine there to semi mute the alarm so as not to immediately wake my son up in the mornings.

Not to add too much to this inane thread, but there are a dozen alarm apps with increasing tones...starts quiet as a whisper and slowly increases.

I thought the exact same thing haha
Phone placed under pillow is understandable but phone is under pillow while charging is just odd. You run a power cord under the pillow too?
I think the main question is why is his device getting that hot while charging? Will putting it under a pillow really cause it to heat up that much? Also doesn't the phone have a thermometer in it and auto shut down when it gets too hot?

I used to do this too! But the vibrators on these newer phones are no where near as strong as the old school nokia bricks!

Now that's messed up!!
A couple years ago when plasma tv's were all the rage, there was a story in the news about a guy that was going around electronic's stores, buying tv's and returning them, but he would have replaced the TV with an oven door!

Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100

Hello everybody. As you can see I am new here. Sorry if i shouldnt post here.
I got a battery issue on my galaxy s2. I got it 2 weeks ago.
I got of the battery to 40%, then I turned the phone off to clean the interior a little, but when I got the battery back and turned the phone on, i saw that it dropped from 40% to 28%. I was shocked. Why is that? Is there any fix for this?
I will attach a screen capture for you to see. (the yellow part at the end).
Cheers,
GanTre

use the phone and the battery will recalibrate itself .
clean ??? water in the phone ??? leaking electric during clean up
jje
Water? Of course not, just cleaning, normal cleaning. Its a electric device. I am noob with smartphones, but i am not an idiot .
Recalibrate? Why it has to recalibrate?
I am very mad because I just lost more 12% percent of my battery for.. nothing?!

Two week old phone needs cleaning inside ???

Try google battery life battery usage and all the rest.

You can only lose 12% by you doing something wrong .
two of your above statements are correct .

Im glad someone understands me. I like to keep things clean in general, not only the expensive things.
Read very slowly
You lost battery 12% when you cleaned you did nothing but cleaqn .
So the act of cleaning drained the battery .
jje
Yeah, that happens when you reboot for some reason... its quite annoying. In actuality you don't lose any % at all; it just appears that way. As JJEgan said the battery will re calibrate itself, you don't have to do anything. It will automatically re correct and show the proper value.
Stop being an annoying guy. I cleaned the phone from dust, not from applications ffs.
TTandroidguy, thanks!
no prob. did it go back up or did you put it to charge straight away?
It happened around 17:00 pm, and I charged the battery at 23 pm, i saw that the battery recovers, like jje said. The phone was siting on the table at 28%, when i switched the screen on(about 30 mins later), it was at 34, so the battery recovers.

You mean firmware, and it's irrelevant.
You're upping your post count nicely though - only one to go
I use 2.3.6.
