[Q] Why does MIUI force close apps that I'm using? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is probably a bug, but it's a really annoying bug and I'm curious if anyone is experiencing the same issue. Periodically if I'm in an app for an extended period of time (surfing Twitter, chatting on Facebook, etc), my phone will vibrate a few time (a short haptic-feedback-like vibration, but 5 or 6 of them in quick succession). Then the app will close and display the dark little "App Successfully Closed" box.
Anyone else having this problem? My guess is that the garbage collector is freeing up memory, but it's freeing up memory that I'm currently using. Super annoying...

That's not a force close, that's just your phone experiencing the "phantom button press." I've never been sure if that was rom related or phone related, considering I've experienced it on a number of different roms. Anyway, try a battery pull, that might work.

On CM7...under settings/applications/developement...there is an option...stop app via long-press...uncheck that...now holding back (or phantom press) wont close anything. Hope this helps.

Just remembered that I made this thread, because my phone was freaking out again today and closing apps. Oh how I need to sleep more...
I unchecked the "force close on back button" long-press option. I'm curious what would be causing this, either the kernel or ROM. My gut tells me kernel, but I have no idea. I'm not technically skilled enough (yet) to pour through kernel code to fix it.

reboot recovery and wipe cache and reboot, then run fix permission in term emu or boot back into recovery and run fix permission....I've never run miui but if you phone goes buzz........ Buzz..buzz..buzz that is a force close of something whether a message box pops up or not. it could be from a kernel issue...although I would think its something else like forgetting to wipe something in the initial flash or restoring Data or incompatible apps in titanium backup...did you restore via Ti-Bu?

I was experiencing that before this last time, after a cache/dalvik wipe, reinstall I haven't had it happen since. It was so aggravating too, as it was like MIUI was bragging about closing something I was using...

Apps auto-closing.. HELP!

I have posted at Android forums about this problem, and so far I have not found a solution...
On Stock Android 2.1 I can use any app and it stays open, even after I hit the home button. I can click on an app that I used a few minutes ago and it comes up instantly because I did not force close with any kind of manager...
Recently flashed NERO V5, and the opposite is happening. Apps are closing on their own after I use them. I can actually pull up the stock task manager and WATCH a certain app get HIGHLIGHTED IN RED...The CPU USE will go up, and BAM...closed.
I've tried reflashin 4 times now to Auxura's latest, and back to NREo V5. Same results. ONLY when I ODIN'd back to stock 2.1 rom did my apps stay open unless force closed.
Is this a result of faulty hardware? An OS tweak I need?
Please advise, as I love the custom ROMS but hate having to wait on WEB to load up again, after just using it 2 minutes ago....
TY for ANY help or suggestions..
Did you reinstall through Titanium? Did you Odin 1St. Before flashing? Just some troubleshooting starters?
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
SOLVED...
AFTER a series of 5 COLD boots...NOT restarts, everything is running normal..
TY.
Good to hear!
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
sounds like it was a permissions problem. You probably weren't doing wipes before you loaded each of these roms. If you download Rom Manager, you can use the "Fix Permissions" option to resolve a lot of the force close problems.
Nope...still auto closing...
I thought I had this fixed dammit!
I thought that hitting the back button after opening an app closed it. Not on my phone it doesn't. Also, WEB and Contacts close after I use facebook or market. Are there any hardware diagnostic tools available in market? Anyway to check if this issue is hardware related?
Yes, I checked the clear box prior to installing new roms if that's what you meant. I did not check the backup rom button though...
Tried fix permissions too but the problem is back now!
Maybe it's hardware related, IDK...
I cannot get WEB and contacts to stay open. I use these 2 apps alot at work, but whenever I use other apps such as market, facebook, camera etc... upon return home, I can take a peek in task manager, and sure enough...NOT THERE.

same thing happening here on froyo ka6 vibrant.....i've tried sgs tuner, memory manager, toolbox, etc but can't get the apps to stay open.
You only have this problem in Axura correct? Not in any other 2.2 roms you've tried or stock 2.1....how about stock 2.2?
It mainly happens in froyo.

Wierd problem: home button reset itself and loses default launcher setting

Anyone experienced this weird problem before? After some use of about few min usage with 2 or more apps running, if the HOME button is pushed, it would reset the launcher and ask me to pick the default launcher again. I have ADW Launcher, Touchwiz, and LauncherPro. Everytime it does this by prompting "> Complete action using ...", I select ADW and checkmark "Use by default for this action." Some 10 - 20 min later, it loses the selection and ask me again even after reboot, uninstall, reinstall, same problem. I have stock froyo ROM, but rooted, with other kernels. I had latest supercurio kernel, it had same problem. I'm testing Overstock kernel, still same problem. The problem is not so bad, it is bearable as long as I don't press the HOME button. It just gets annoying and happened like 70% of the time of pushing that button. Anyone knows how to fix this? Danke.
Same problem here, but with go launcher. Im using darkys 9.5
Home switcher didnt solve it!

I had a similar issue recently. It was an app (MoboPlayer) causing it. Every time I would long press the home button it would lose the default setting. The dev recently fixed it, but I'd suggest having a look at what apps you recently installed and do some testing.

Wait so you are saying an app can cause this? I thought the apps are chrooted (sandboxed) so can't really affect each other except for OS affecting them. What's the best way to figure out what was recently installed? I have lots. If none, I guess I can try uninstall all the apps...and reinstall just a few to see if that holds up.

Just a idea..
-Have Titanium backup.
Backup the launchers(keep 1 there though you need 1), if you have to save the data, save the data.
uninstall it.
reboot.
restore it
that might work?
or erasing the data from the apps might work too

I thought the same thing, but it was definitely MoboPlayer causing it for me. It went away when I uninstalled, and returned immediately when I reinstalled it. I emailed the dev and he fixed it.
If you have Titanium Backup, under the Backup/Restore tab, you can tap the "ordered by" header to sort by install date.
When this happens the easy fix is to go task manager and shut all programs it will reset for you your settings np. This happens to me occasionally when my 4yr old plays with my phone, somehow she jacks it up and erases some the launchers like the phone, etc. So, I found this restores easily.
The problem was ADW.Launcher Free. Without it, things seem alot more stable.
I have a solution
I was struggling with this very issue. I thought it was due to partially corrupt system data. I installed another ROM, from scratch, rebuilt it to my specifications, then added a different launcher once again (different one this time). Rebooting resulted in the default lost and also all widgets showing with an "error loading widget" message in their place.
I finally figured out what was going on. It's because I had selected the option "move to SD card" as the default when installing applications. So, the launcher was on the SD card. Well, this creates a problem with timing, because the SD card is prepared a little later on in the boot process, after the required time to load the launcher. The result? Android draws up the default launcher. And for some reason, the older launcher ends up compromised with some of its default settings.
Once I moved my launcher app back to phone memory, the problem went away.

Randomly unable to launch apps

OK - I'm starting to think I'm the only person that has this issue as I haven't seen it reported..
Sometimes, my Photon won't launch apps. Apps that are already running continue to run and I can switch back and forth between them, but trying to start a new app, it just doesn't start! Fix has been to either reboot, or have it go to sleep and wake it up 15 minutes later and try again. I've had it do this while a system task manager was running, so could see that there was plenty of free memory (RAM) available..
This includes launching apps from apps that are already running. i.e. - sometimes the browser doesn't launch from a search query. (mostly though pressing an icon on the STOCK launcher doesn't launch it..)
Anyone else see this?
-mark
Yeah mine seems to do it every once in a while too. I noticed that if you open the task manager and kill the market then whatever app your trying to open will end up opening up right after the market closes.

One of the reasons, I took mine back to the Sprint Store. When they fix it, I may buy it again... otherwise, my OG Evo is perfectly fine.
I can't believe more people aren't experiencing this. I do have LauncherPro installed but I don't think that's the reason. I can recreate this all the time. After installing an app through Market, I randomly can't open apps from the home screen.
Nothing happens unless I force close the Marketplace.
Any input on this?

The new market is absolute crap in my opinion, way to many FC's with it and it just doesn't do what it needs to. If I can go faster than it can download, select, etc then it needs to be reworked, also I get a lot of packet errors, have to download apps two or three times just to get it to install.. Great idea but it needs a patch bad!
I wouldn't see why this is a reason to take the Photon back and go back to an Evo, I mean the Evo is a cool phone but the hardware on it is sub par compared to this phone. I used to have one, and it doesn't even hold a candle. But to each their own.

I have only had this happen a few times I was told that it is associated with the battery manager settings if you don't use performance it can cause issues that was what was causing the muted audio issues the battery management settings put it on performance and I don't see the issue.

I just noticed my battery mode was set to Nighttime Saver. Hadn't even looked at this option. I went ahead and changed it to Performance Mode and will see if it happens again.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Mine does it too. After the update that just came out it seems to do it less now.
Just started having this issue today. App launches and others won't launch unless you kill the "hanging" app or the market.
I have no idea if this is a bug in blur or some kind of hardware defect (memory). It seems to be a software issue.
Problem persists after complete hard reset and app cache clear.
I'm using an 8 GB Samsung class 2 microSD card (from old Evo 4G). It has been reformatted.
Other symptoms: Back button and select widgets become unresponsive.
App count at time problem started: 72
yeah i have the same issues. not sure how to fix it. Usually a reboot does it but man i hate to reboot it all the time.
Could you list any changes, apps, app counts, microSD card, or settings your Photon has?
Mine is working smoothly after redoing my Photon for the 2nd time, reformating the microSD card via the phone, keeping my App count below 70, setting the Battery mode to Performance, and not installing Bump or Sensorly.
Still trying to narrow down the issue but it's looking like it's software related.
still happening
Is this problem still happening to anyone's phone?? It's starting to get really annoying, I tried a hard reset twice on two different photons and the problem's still occurring.
I fixed this by installing the automemory manager. Details in my thread called lag be gone.

Cyanogenmod phone process FC, what is the root cause?

Hello all. I'm starting this thread to find out what made the phone process constantly FC in cyanogenmod7. Hope other users can contribute to this testing.
For me I suspect it's probably related to app data. Installing too many apps and moving it to sd may have led to the FC.
The second time I tried, moving dalvik to sd caused it.
Third flash, everything was stable until recent lags in browsers. It can be so laggy it affects locking screen. Feedback comes 10 seconds late. Held power button to force reboot, poof! Another phone process force close.
What led to that in cyanogenmod for you guys?

Weird. Do you think it's the swap partition?
you know what i did? i wiped the battery stats in CWM then when i turned the Ace on, phone app goes FC! good thing Lovetz provided that fix though; haven't encountered that since FC then.

That guy saved my ass as well, installed the middleclock mod which brought the FC error.
But I have experienced FCs from time to time, even after using that fix.

I don't experience any problem with the centre clock mod .
Forever living in my Galaxy Ace using XDA App
Happened to me after rebooting after I restored some apps from titanium backup(did not occur immediately after restoring...occurred after rebooting). That was before Lovetz's fix. So I had to factory reset. But that did not occur after that ever again(after restoring over 100 apps including those apps).
Seems like a random bug that pops out when it wants to.
I dont use apps to sd and dont keep alot of apps on the phone. I do use center clock mod and a theme. I've only had it once. I think its related to the kernel, it far from complete but im confident that given time the guys will fix it. Also i heard coolya is back on the project, if thats true its based in his work so he will probably find a fix. I think patents is the key here. There is a fix for now, its something we must live with for an otherwise incredible rom.

Yeah it's incredible except for some stability problems that makes it not so trustworthy. Just to substantiate, I notice extreme lags right before the next boot which will have the fc of the phone process.

Freezes, keyboard input stops

First of all, I really like this phone, but this is driving me nuts.
This has happened to me twice. The first time was when I was setting the phone up, so there was not data or apps on it. The phone just kind of freezes, like something is spiking the CPU. Keyboard input stops. The keys make noise like they're being tapped, but nothing shows up on the screen. When it gets like this, I can't even call up the multitasking menu sometimes. When I do and call up task manager, nothing is really hitting the CPU hard enough to cause it.
Restarting the phone obviously fixes it, but that's not going to happen. If this is going to be a regular thing, the phone is going back. I can live with the 30 second notification light thing, but this is something else entirely.
I tried switching keyboards, closing all apps, etc. Nothing works. It's like there's a huge memory leak or some process runs out of control.
Anyone else seen this issue or know what causes it? I searched here and on Google and I don't see anyone else talking about it.
Do you by chance have a flashlight app installed. If so install and see if it keeps happening.

I haven't had a single issue since uninstalling the Flashlight app. I'm not sure how you knew that, but thanks.
I wonder if there are any safe flashlight apps on the market. It actually came in handy.
I had problems with TeslaLED, so I switched to "Tiny Flashlight + LED" and have had no issues since.
