Freezes, keyboard input stops - AT&T LG Optimus G

First of all, I really like this phone, but this is driving me nuts.
This has happened to me twice. The first time was when I was setting the phone up, so there was not data or apps on it. The phone just kind of freezes, like something is spiking the CPU. Keyboard input stops. The keys make noise like they're being tapped, but nothing shows up on the screen. When it gets like this, I can't even call up the multitasking menu sometimes. When I do and call up task manager, nothing is really hitting the CPU hard enough to cause it.
Restarting the phone obviously fixes it, but that's not going to happen. If this is going to be a regular thing, the phone is going back. I can live with the 30 second notification light thing, but this is something else entirely.
I tried switching keyboards, closing all apps, etc. Nothing works. It's like there's a huge memory leak or some process runs out of control.
Anyone else seen this issue or know what causes it? I searched here and on Google and I don't see anyone else talking about it.

Do you by chance have a flashlight app installed. If so install and see if it keeps happening.

I haven't had a single issue since uninstalling the Flashlight app. I'm not sure how you knew that, but thanks.
I wonder if there are any safe flashlight apps on the market. It actually came in handy.

I had problems with TeslaLED, so I switched to "Tiny Flashlight + LED" and have had no issues since.

Hahaha

I don't have a flashlight app, yet this happens to me. The ONLY time it does happen to me is when I'm using the stock mail app. I just changed mail apps to see if it continues.

Freezing/pull battery and browser website load issues

So my first problem is with advanced task killer. Let's not get into if I should or shouldn't use a task killer. Anyway, I use it manually to close apps like spiderman and crap I don't want to ever use. After I open the app and hit kill the phone freezes and no buttons get it back, so I have to pull the battery. This happens about every other day, maybe every 15th time ish. Any ideas on what's going on it is anyone else having this issue?
Second issue is that I'll turn on mobile data, open browser, go to Google and it acts like I have no internet connection. I open a new tab, same thing. Load a different website and it loads, try Google again and nothing. Google's website is an example, it could be any site. This is only with the first or second site opened after data is turned on. I'll kill the browser and it'll load after. Sometimes I'll disconnect and reconnect 3g and it'll fix it too, but not every time.
Should I get a replacement or are these issues software related only?
Thanks!
uninstall ATK and see if you still have the issues. I am betting it is somthing with ATK that is causing your problem.
No need for task killer app, the PHONE includes its own go to the app drawer n click on task manager let's u kill some of the apps running on the background without messing with Ur data etc

First one,,,if you know task killer freezes when you use it...does it not make sense NOT. In other words...if I knew say for instance calendar would freeze every time it hit a day...logic and common sence tells me not to use the damn thing..duh..
2. A. Try a factory reset....b..try with background sync off. C... Try a different browser..
D....go into browser...clear out cashe..clear out history...etc..

Hey now, I'm not retarded... yes ofc I did quit using it (meant was happening about every other day not is happening) - doesn't mean I can't ask about it also I simply, after a few freezes, assumed it was the killer, but hoped there was a way around it and not something hardware related. I like to understand why things happen rather than find a temp fix and forget. This could be a sense 3.0 conflict with the app that I was unaware of, Idk. If everyone has the issue cool, if not I'm curious why only I do.
Also, the built-in task manager isn't exactly as easy to manually kill apps.
The browser also doesn't always load desktop view despite it being set as such. I'll try clearing or another browser and see what happens with these issues.
Thanks!
I hope it works for the browser...I used to think it was my browser also...it was my connection on 3G...this happens for both OG EVO and current...I did not mean to imply you where a iPhone owner...(retarded..).... Hehe......... Any iPhone owners....it's a joke dammit...

Lol. Has this happened to you as well then? I never had this issue with the browser/3G on my OG Evo... Actually I had no issues lol.
If you want to use an app manger try system panel. I can gibe you a list of apps that you should not kill and info on how to set it up so you can still have a one click kill all solution without having the phone freeze. What it seems like is happening is when you excute the one click kill all you might be killing a needed system app or one a needed system app depends on without knowing therefore causing the instant lock up and reboot. If your interested just shoot me a pm and I might be able to help you out.
Locked & Loaded
I have that issue with the browser and some Apps! I will have 3G but some websites will load, some won't and some Apps will work and some won't...it is really annoying...

[Q] Why does MIUI force close apps that I'm using?

This is probably a bug, but it's a really annoying bug and I'm curious if anyone is experiencing the same issue. Periodically if I'm in an app for an extended period of time (surfing Twitter, chatting on Facebook, etc), my phone will vibrate a few time (a short haptic-feedback-like vibration, but 5 or 6 of them in quick succession). Then the app will close and display the dark little "App Successfully Closed" box.
Anyone else having this problem? My guess is that the garbage collector is freeing up memory, but it's freeing up memory that I'm currently using. Super annoying...
That's not a force close, that's just your phone experiencing the "phantom button press." I've never been sure if that was rom related or phone related, considering I've experienced it on a number of different roms. Anyway, try a battery pull, that might work.
On CM7...under settings/applications/developement...there is an option...stop app via long-press...uncheck that...now holding back (or phantom press) wont close anything. Hope this helps.
Just remembered that I made this thread, because my phone was freaking out again today and closing apps. Oh how I need to sleep more...
I unchecked the "force close on back button" long-press option. I'm curious what would be causing this, either the kernel or ROM. My gut tells me kernel, but I have no idea. I'm not technically skilled enough (yet) to pour through kernel code to fix it.

reboot recovery and wipe cache and reboot, then run fix permission in term emu or boot back into recovery and run fix permission....I've never run miui but if you phone goes buzz........ Buzz..buzz..buzz that is a force close of something whether a message box pops up or not. it could be from a kernel issue...although I would think its something else like forgetting to wipe something in the initial flash or restoring Data or incompatible apps in titanium backup...did you restore via Ti-Bu?

I was experiencing that before this last time, after a cache/dalvik wipe, reinstall I haven't had it happen since. It was so aggravating too, as it was like MIUI was bragging about closing something I was using...

Randomly unable to launch apps

OK - I'm starting to think I'm the only person that has this issue as I haven't seen it reported..
Sometimes, my Photon won't launch apps. Apps that are already running continue to run and I can switch back and forth between them, but trying to start a new app, it just doesn't start! Fix has been to either reboot, or have it go to sleep and wake it up 15 minutes later and try again. I've had it do this while a system task manager was running, so could see that there was plenty of free memory (RAM) available..
This includes launching apps from apps that are already running. i.e. - sometimes the browser doesn't launch from a search query. (mostly though pressing an icon on the STOCK launcher doesn't launch it..)
Anyone else see this?
-mark
Yeah mine seems to do it every once in a while too. I noticed that if you open the task manager and kill the market then whatever app your trying to open will end up opening up right after the market closes.

One of the reasons, I took mine back to the Sprint Store. When they fix it, I may buy it again... otherwise, my OG Evo is perfectly fine.
I can't believe more people aren't experiencing this. I do have LauncherPro installed but I don't think that's the reason. I can recreate this all the time. After installing an app through Market, I randomly can't open apps from the home screen.
Nothing happens unless I force close the Marketplace.
Any input on this?

The new market is absolute crap in my opinion, way to many FC's with it and it just doesn't do what it needs to. If I can go faster than it can download, select, etc then it needs to be reworked, also I get a lot of packet errors, have to download apps two or three times just to get it to install.. Great idea but it needs a patch bad!
I wouldn't see why this is a reason to take the Photon back and go back to an Evo, I mean the Evo is a cool phone but the hardware on it is sub par compared to this phone. I used to have one, and it doesn't even hold a candle. But to each their own.

I have only had this happen a few times I was told that it is associated with the battery manager settings if you don't use performance it can cause issues that was what was causing the muted audio issues the battery management settings put it on performance and I don't see the issue.

I just noticed my battery mode was set to Nighttime Saver. Hadn't even looked at this option. I went ahead and changed it to Performance Mode and will see if it happens again.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Mine does it too. After the update that just came out it seems to do it less now.
Just started having this issue today. App launches and others won't launch unless you kill the "hanging" app or the market.
I have no idea if this is a bug in blur or some kind of hardware defect (memory). It seems to be a software issue.
Problem persists after complete hard reset and app cache clear.
I'm using an 8 GB Samsung class 2 microSD card (from old Evo 4G). It has been reformatted.
Other symptoms: Back button and select widgets become unresponsive.
App count at time problem started: 72
yeah i have the same issues. not sure how to fix it. Usually a reboot does it but man i hate to reboot it all the time.
Could you list any changes, apps, app counts, microSD card, or settings your Photon has?
Mine is working smoothly after redoing my Photon for the 2nd time, reformating the microSD card via the phone, keeping my App count below 70, setting the Battery mode to Performance, and not installing Bump or Sensorly.
Still trying to narrow down the issue but it's looking like it's software related.
still happening
Is this problem still happening to anyone's phone?? It's starting to get really annoying, I tried a hard reset twice on two different photons and the problem's still occurring.
I fixed this by installing the automemory manager. Details in my thread called lag be gone.

[Q] Keyboard freezing up in some apps

New to this forum and seeking some help(obviously)
Had this phone for about 3 weeks now and I love it. I just have one problem with it.
In the stock messaging app, Kik, and a couple of other apps, my keyboard will occasionally freeze. Android keyboard, LG keyboard, Swype... They all do it.
But I can still type on it, it just won't show me a "live-shot" of what I'm typing. When I press the back button(hides keyboard), all the text that I typed would show up. For example, if I type/swype "I like cake", it won't show anything in the text field until I hide/exit out of the keyboard. Then it all the text shows up at once.
I've tried everything I know of. I've done a factory reset on the phone, I've disabled keyboards, I've uninstalled apps. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! This isn't a huge pain because a restart temporarily fixes it, and this phone only takes like 45 seconds to reboot. It's just annoying since it happens several times a day.

Never happened to me....Are you stock, rooted, unlocked....if so what ROM/kernel are you running. It helps when you post as much information as possible so we might be able to determine if its something we can help with. That happened to me on my old Infuse ALOT, but i was flashing multiple ROM a day just playing around....

this is strange I have had no issues regarding this whether I was stock or otherwise. If you got it from best buy take it back and get another, I have gone through 3 LGOG until I found one that didnt have strange issues. But I also got mine early. Maybe some of the senior members have had this issue. Good Luck
Thanks for the replies. I'm not rooted and I've installed all the updates they've sent out so far. I've looked online and I haven't been able to find anyone else with this problem...
I got it from AT&T(They matched Best Buy's price for me!) and I have to go there in about a week to get a credit on my bill, so I'll just ask them to try to figure out what's going on.

Swap that out when you go. Good luck !
I fixed it. Apparently one of the few apps that I did not uninstall was causing the problem. Tesla LED(Flashlight app) was causing the keyboard to freeze. I have no idea why... That app has nothing to do with the keyboard. But I uninstalled it, installed another flashlight app and haven't had a problem since Tuesday night.

Hahaha, no problem, man! I installed Tiny Flashlight + LED and added the widget to my home screen. So now all I need to do is tap the widget and the flashlight turns on.
Ya, so I havent downloaded any flashlight app, yet fairly frequently, in messaging, web browsing, and the like, my keyboard stops displaying input (sometimes even gestures in web browsing, such as swiping to move around the screen freeze too). The words and other things i change, such as where in a web page it is focused does take effect after hitting the menu key on the phone. Typing also seems to work regularly in landscape, but im not used to turning it every time i type and id rather not get used to it. It happens with the Android keyboard as well as the LG one, and might be related to the similiar freezing the google voice and swype brought, but im fairly positive i completely uninstalled those, so idk...

Hey guys I just notice this as well fresh from the att store, although I've only seen it only once. So I'm 100% sure it's not due to rooting/bootloader unlocked. My suspicion is some sort of memory leak in the LG keyboard service (it's loaded as well even though you're using android OS). I clear both keyboard data and reboot, never happened anymore since then.

Screen Flickering

I am getting this annoying screen flicker. The screen will dim as if it's going to sleep and then brighten again. This happens when typing, opening apps, and other times. I can deal with it but it is getting annoying.
Does anyone else have this issue and if so, any fixes for it?
I was having same problem. I think it might be a app causing it. My PayPal app I think did it to mine.
I have this aswell lol i thought it was just me “ it happens randomly with me on apps like twitch an youtube “ my screen dims then brightens twice in a row quickly “ i thought it was just reading the apps that i had moved to sd card so i put them back on device but it still dose it atleast twice a day “ weird?? must be a software bug as its not normal or called for surely “ its only recently started doing this so im all out of ideas maybe ill factory reset and use my phone for a day without installing anything to see if it still happens

I've disabled Google smart card notices. I noticed mine doing it when the weather alerts from Google would pop up in my notifications list. I tapped the weather message and went to the Google page, then to settings and disabled notifications and the smart cards all together.
I have actually been to the point I was ready to take the brand new phone back to Verizon over this. But I didn't want a "re manufactured" or "second" after paying for this beast.
I'll see if this helps and report back.

That didn't work...
Going to try removing the PayPal app....
I think I've seen this issue here and there, and also where the screen will almost 'invert' colors... Not exactly, but things will look sort of greyscale-ish for a short while. I THINK it's when the device is in sunlight, so could this be an adaptive feature? It seems to be remedied by covering the light sensor
Same issue here....
It seems completely random - but it's always 2 large flickers - as if the screen is almost turning off, and then back on - twice...
Still the best phone ever - i'm sure this will get resolved.
I had this problem too ` i removed the paypal app 2weeks ago and it went away permanently
Have had the same issue on the Verizon and AT&T varient. Had PayPal app on both. I just removed the PayPal app so lets see if that works. Otherwise this phone is pretty nice.
Same here. ..
I've also noticed this issue sporadically, though I haven't been able to tie it to any one task. Seems more like a an OS/application programming issue with the core system. It's kind of annoying; hopefully it'll be pathedone in an update, though i'my not sure if LG is aware of the issue or not...

Having issue on an LG stylo 2. Usually occurs in Messaging app, but 5 minutes ago occured while in dolphin browser. No paypal app on phone, all apps have background data restricted unless on wifi (All Apps), and it only started today. Phone is current for all updates.
