A ROM that has all the drivers for HW accelaration, etc. I don't care if it is a 2.2 or 2.3 ROM. (BL 1.2)
I have tried all the HC ROMS so far and while the devs are doing such a bang up job with the little resources available to them, HC ROMS still have issues i.e. playing videos from browsers, etc.
I am currently running the GTabcomb 3.3 and it is by far the best HC ROM I have tried but I simply cannot play ANY videos on browsers.
Thanks.

I can only recommend CyanogenMOD 7.0.3 Stable. Everything works..
I'm not sure if there is a 1.2BL Stable version floating around but I think there may be a nightlies thread in the Developers section.
The Current CM7 Stable does require a 1.1BL though.
Goodluck!

Beasty's is by far the best. Fastest rom out of the 5+ roms I've tried. Everything works except for popcap games
Thanks guys. Will be trying all those ROMS shortly.
Sorry to threadjack, but how would you compare gtabcomb to illuminate? Illuminate is claiming hw accelleration.
try using Opera as your browser to view videos. I am using the same rom (GTab comb 3.3)

illuminate -> by default: the youtube is a hit or miss. Some are working, some are not.
the flashback Rom -> so far youtube is working but no HW Acceleration. and the original angrybird is not playable. (i still cant catapult the bird eventhough the game can be started). angrybird rio is playable though.
So hopefully the next update of illuminate will fix the flash problem since the last few post from lbs seems mentioning about it *cross finger*
Quick comments: Whether its hw acceleration or not, but the current illumuniate rom is not as fast as the original Honeycomb tablet e.g. xoom, samsung.

Hello all,
In your opinions, what is the most stable and bug free rom out for the gtab right now? I have Gadam right now as my daily, but looking for another to switch
between, but I don't want to make the wrong choice.
I really liked TnT Lite, but it doesn't see PEAP authenticated wireless networks. Running Vegan 5.11 now, it runs well too but I've had intermittent issues with the apps market.
To be honest they all have their bugs, you just have to find the right rom that fits your needs. I started with tnt lite when I first got my gtab from woot. I was getting alot of apps fc'ing so I tried vegan tab 5.1.1 then got bored so I tried caulkins which had some issues. Also tried vegan gingerbread which i really like but couldn't play videos so now I'm back to vegan 5.1.1 which is the most stable and works best for my needs.
Sent from my VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0b5.1.1 using Tapatalk
+1 on VEGAn 5.1.1.
If the rom just working and not having a bunch of force closes is boring then this is not the rom for you. However, if you just want your gTab to be fast and reliable then this is the rom for you.
I'm loving Vegan 7 RC1. It's Gingerbread based so you don't get blazing fast hardware video decoding, but thus far that isn't a feature I use. For browsing the web, streaming the news (video or audio) Wifi location support, etc etc it is AWESOME.
Another one for vegan. I like more the UI of tapntap, looks more like a tablet, but doesn't work as smooth as vegan. Just waiting for Vegan 7 to have the video drivers.
+1 for VEGAn 5.1.1
Keep the opinions coming.
I've been on Vegan Tab and is nice though I do get FC's on more than a rare occasion.
It does not auto rotate the home screen; since we all know the gtab does have the best viewing angles, I frequently flip it around, but every time I go back to home screen its upside down.
Does TnT Lite auto rotate home screen? Which other ROMs do?

I'm using launcher pro with auto rotate enable and it works fine. Rotates to all side, up, down, left, right. Maybe you have to check your launcher?

+1 VEGAn 5.1.1 it is fast stable and runs circles around the stock ROM.
I couldn't comprehend using anything other than the Calkulin+Clemsyn OC Combo. It provides what I believe to be the best ROM (Calkulin) with the best kernel (Clemsyn 1.5Ghz OC) in a single package. If you think VEGAn 5.1.1 is fast, try this combo, it will blow you away.
Fast but no stable and somethings doesn't work like gps tethering, Bluetooth file transfer, etc... so faster doesn't mean always better.

+1 for Gingerbread based rom, seem like custom build rom are better than Froyo almost emulator rip... Eventually they will be the one to use!
Gojimmy has done a very good work with his custom launcher!
Calkulin / Clemsyn is also a very good choice
I can't believe that more love hasn't been shown for Calkulin and Clemsyn. I am running Calkulin's 1.1 with an unreleased version 10 of Clemsyn and it is smoking fast, stable (no sleep issues), and plays videos flawlessly (rock player light).
For my purposes, it does everything better than Vegan 5.1.1 which I loved before.
I am tempted by the new combo rom that Clemsyn is now supporting but I am generally a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" kinda guy.
I would be tempted to try a gingerbread rom if NVidia supports it with drivers.

I've read several people on this thread and others that say such and such rom is faster than such and such other rom. Seriously, what do you guys do on your gTabs that you keep having to jump on the next "fastest" benchmark screenshot? I really don't get it so can someone give me some real life examples so I can understand? Is it purely for bragging rights or what?
I'm running VEGAn 5.1.1 now but before that I tried a few TnT variants and nothing I used my gTab for seemed to be noticibly affected by one or another flavor of rom except for stability.
I use the hell out my gTabs by the way. I watch videos I've ripped, play games like Samurai 2: Vengeance, use remote desktop software to access work computers to do work, create and modify Office documents, and use Flash to watch videos on sites like Fox Television and HULU.
So I just want to know why I should be jumping to a new rom or kernel release every day. And yes I know about pershoot's overclock kernel too which would let you show your buddies a screenshot with crazy fast numbers on a benchmark.
If you're not a newbie and flashing something new everyday makes you feel complete then by all means, do it, we need folks like you to flush out bugs for the cookers to fix. But I feel like we've got a lot of new members that joined us recently that aren't all that experienced at modding and steering them in directions of roms or kernel hacks that are either unnecessary or not very stable for most users' everyday needs is irresponsible.
That's my humble opinion and I'll get of my soapbox now.
Really torn between Calkulin and Clemsyn, and vegan now. I care more about stable and less bugs/problems then speed.
Since going to Vegan Ginger period, I have had zero issues. Granted, mine is for recreational use at the moment so nvflashing often isnt an issue. Not to take anything away from Calkulin, both ROMs seemed just as stable/fast for my daily use. The deciding factor then was look, feel, and (for me) settings. lol Vegan and gojimi's VTL Launcher lets me customize practically anything.
+1 Vegan RC, but to each their own. You wont find whats best for your setup in this thread, not until you try each ROM and see for yourself.

If you plan on using it to play videos then go with something Froyo as none of the Gingerbread ROM's have hardware acceleration so video will be choppy.
Which rom do you consider the fastest when it comes to playing 3D games? The speed goes up with 2.2 or 2.3 roms, but theyre not capable of flawless gaming (HW related, i know). The main problem are HD games (Miami Vindication, Fast 5 and Asphalt 6) which are the best...
Please dont mention roms wihout ability to take pics/video, or MIUI roms - i really hate their iphone like look, its like having awesome ferrari but covered in feces - no offence to their devs
Currently, no more than a few days, using TripNArc, but the camera doesnt work a with latest version (0.8) i cant call, so i probably go back to stock 2.1...
Wolf's CM 6.1.3 for me plays A6 no problem, as well as Zenonia 2.
It's a very speedy 2.2 rom, has multitouch and camera.
WB 3.16 rom.
I play Quake 2 with stencil shadows enabled.
No lags, no crashes.
Im on TripNArc 0.5 (0.9 is out, so im gonna try)
Quadrant - 1202
Linpack - 37.127 MFLOPS
but Miami Vindication lags still, even if not that much
as i read the wolfbreaks cm has fast battery drain problem, but i may try it
Would a custom kernel help increase the performance?

I got my wife a gtablet from a member from this forum.
It came with older version of G Harmony and some of the soft buttons weren't working. That's fine, wiped, wiped and wiped again and then installed the latest.
Now I'm noticing it's having problems with going into sleep and not waking up. (not all the time but often)
I did the do not sleep from the setting screen and still the same thing.
Now I need a rom that she can use daily without any issues with youtube and hulu working and all the videos working great.
Any suggestions? or did I get a dud?
Any overclocked froyo version will do just fine. Stay away from CM7 as there has been a huge number of reports of problems coming from that end.
full wipe everything and vegan 5.1.1 oughtta set you straight

What he is talking about are keyboards that oyu can download from the market. They'll be different colors, different layouts, etc. One that I like has a voice and gesture input method.
on most roms, all that's needed to change the keyboard is to long tap on the text area, then activate the new keyboard. In Calkulin Clemysn, it's much different, as the stock keyboard is in the system files, and needs to be switched with the new one for it to work...
I personally have no issues with Calk's stock keyboard, so I haven't bothered changing it.

Vegan 5.1.1 is better because it's froyo and not GB.
Froyo has hardware acceleration and GB does not, so that's why I went with that. You can go RC17.0 but I don't really see what it has to offer over the 2.2 version and it's not as fast or snappy.
I am personally running CM 7.1.0 Nightly and it seems to work great. No real issues that I notice. What is so much better with Froyo? I don't watch hi-def video so then full hardware acceleration isn't really an issue for me, correct?
Basically, I'm trying to figure out the tradeoffs between froyo and gingerbread roms.

I used CM7.1 and it had a few quirks. The app drawer sometimes lagged while open, sometimes things lagged just a tiny bit. Overall it's a good ROM, but netflix was fubar.
I am currently on CM7.03, netflix works, a few bugs but not too bad, I can take the tradeoff.
Froyo is VERY snappy, no bugs for me, seems faster than a SGT actually. Video playback is awesome, and some HD games.
My personal favorite is CM7.03 for netflix and CM goodies.
Netflix is working great for me with 7.1. Had to mod the build.prop file but otherwise great. Does the interface look much different between froyo and gingerbread?
I guess this probably won't much of a deal once there is a good, stable HC rom to use. The interface is just too slick to pass up (once basically everything is working well). Actually gtabcomb sounds like it is getting pretty close (except video acceleration and the camera).

there's no hardware acceleration in GB either.
So I tried both Calc's + kernel and vegan +pershoot kernel rom.
Both are very snappy and responsive but found cons with few.
Vegan rom with pershoot kernel has the slow to wake issue with me having to have to double click on the power button to turn on.
Calc's rom with clemsyn kernel is great but at low battery, it starts to crawl.
It doesn't feel like 1.2ghz but more like 300mhz and it was still near 50%.
Wifi takes forever to turn back on.
Any tweaks that you guys can recommend ?
Where do you see the hardware acceleration difference? Really just with high def movies?
Siptang, can't you go into the performance settings and change how it behaves at low battery levels?

On which rom does it have performance settings?
edit: found the answer to my previous question.
I have read a lot of discussions on this site, but have not seen an answer to my question...so, here I go.
I am looking at getting a GTablet...with it on sale now for about $260, the price is really tempting. However, I have not read of a ROM that works COMPLETELY with all of the hardware. Either it "mostly" works, or crashes often, ect. Is there a ROM that works without issue (at least no more issues than the factory ROM)?
Confused?
Here is the lay down
Stock ROM with OC [email protected] .......................working HW acceleration and camera
Enhanced Froyo ROM OC [email protected] HW acceleration and camera
Gingerbread ROM OC [email][email protected] HW acceleration and camera
CM7 ROM OC [email][email protected] have HW acceleration, working camera
Honeycomb ROM OC [email protected] no HW acceleration, no camera
Take your pick, your Gtab should be on BL 1.2 already, do check the tablet status to be sure. Make sure you select ROM build for BL 1.2 if your gtab is BL 1.2 model.
I like VTL Launcher to use with non Honeycomb rom, so check it out. You can get it free in the XDA forum.

Go with one of the Honeycomb roms. Just add Opera and Flash and you wont regreat it. Or you can go for the old stable work horse Vegan Tab 5.1.1. It never let me down. Im currently using Honeycomb and now that Ive figured it out Im really liking it. Its got more eye candy then the Froyo rom.
I've tried alot of roms since I got my GTab in October. Currently running Flashback 7.1, a little trick to get into. I suggest trying a few.

Same for me but I got an intersting anwser by a guy on XDA forum,
here is it .
This is the message:
Bonjour, Mikyreale!
I would recommend using VEGAN tab 7.0. It is the most stable and most complete Gingerbread operating system for the gTablet. If you want to use the latest operating system, but possibly not as stable, then use the Honeycomb-based gTabComb. I use it and have been very impressed with it.
Regarding gTabComb, I am using beta 3.3, and it has been quite stable so far with few reboots and force closes.
Regarding ClockworkMod (also known as CM), make sure you install version .8 and you can get that from here on xda-developers.
You can get either VEGAN Tab or gTabComb here on xda-developers as well.
I have videos on YouTube that show how to install ClockworkMod and VEGAN Tab. Search for user ehunyadi on YouTube.com.
Take care, and good luck!
Hope it will be good for you, My Gtab should arrive in a couple of days.

I'm using 5.1.1 and some times it's flakey (i.e. it's really sluggish if I install a bunch of apps until I reboot, and it needs the .nomedia fix) but overall it works well and I like how it looks/acts with VTL launcher. Gun Bros (Glu) is the only significant app that I can't use.

Brilliant Corners; it's basically Vegan but newer and better, and on the 1.2 bootloader.
Just a couple notes on extra features/items that don't get much mention...
Wifi location: Only works on GB and HC roms
HD Video: Supposedly works on Froyo with full HW Acceleration, but full HW accel doesn't mean much if you can't even open the file. That is to say, so many videos need to be re-encoded to take advantage of the hw acceleration on the stock player, you might be better off just sticking with compressed 720p or 480p (there was a time not so long ago when DVD's were considered the best quality) content, which can play just fine on GB and HC.
Settings: ON many TnT derivatives, the settings app lacks several key controls. Swapping in the stock settings.apk can help to do things like install third party keyboards or access account and sync settings. Details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14566837&postcount=331.
Games: Popcap-Peggle and Plants vs Zombies. I have not found any kernel that plays these games consistently other than one specific one for Froyo:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128866 .
Usability: The handy little cursor location tab in GB and HC is hard to live without once you have used it.
Touch screen: I have found that it is most responsive to touch on honeycomb roms, for whatever reason.. Just anecdotal, nothing i really tested.
A note of personal preference: I have had my gtab for 6 months and still not found a ROM I am totally happy with. I am on a customized version of TnT at this point, and I am about as happy as I can be. I have developed a real affinity for the TnT status bar. I like that it is a little bigger, and easier to press the buttons on. It is easy enough to swap over the standard settings app when you need to use it, as long as you have root. The only thing lacking from my perspective is wifi location and that handy cursor.
Also this is a great thread. Maybe I only think so because I have never found that "perfect" rom. Keep the discussion going and maybe someone will put together a ROM that finally hits the nail on the head...
Personally I would go with vegan ROM the newest version which ever that one maybe, I right now am still on vegan tab Beta 5.1 and I haven't had a single force close or shut down yet.

I see it appears that there isn't a "perfect" ROM that fully works. My question is simply which ROM is the most reliable/stable/fully featured?? I need the camera to work for sure.
I don't wanna try multiple different roms and would like someone to share their experience with the different roms and recommend me a ROM.
Thanks.

Have you gotten Flash video to work on it?

would like to know this as well. i may be missing a step, but i've downloaded opera and the new version of flash and can't get this to work. (set the agent to desktop btw)
Until then, i'm sticking to froyo (Calk+Clem Combo V5) with VTL Launcher. The VTL Launcher gives me HC-like bells and whistles with the stability of Froyo.
gTabComb - camera app
Has anyone been able to fix the camera issue on this ROM?
I have build number GTabComb_b3.3_bl1.2
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
I bought a gtab for my son back in January and, with the help of this forum, rooted it and installed the vegan-tab 5.1.1. Sin then it has been the perfect little tab for him (and me). Is it worth looking into the HC roms now available. I would have to upgrade the boot loader as well but it looks like there are plenty of helpfull instructions on the forum to help me with that. I guess the question is are the HC roms that much better than the nicely running Vegan-Tab we are using right now?

It's not even close. Once you install HC you'll wonder what took you so long.
Calk Clem V6 Overclocked to 1.5ghz is still the best daily driver imo. It's froyo based and is just too fast and stable for me to move on from.
GtabComb runs on either BL.
I've tried pretty much all of the roms available for the gtab. While I like the look and feel of the HC roms, I tend to go back to Froyo or Gingerbread as they are more stable and run properly. Check into apps that you want to run and whether Flash is important to you.
Flashlight is a new one for me as of tonight and seems fast without issue with any apps yet. Beastrom is one of my favorites.

I like the HW acceleration in 2.2 but people over on Slate droid are making a HW accelerated HC port.
If you want a working camera and good general performance, then Calk Clem V6 Overclocked to 1.5ghz is a good choice, I run VEGanTAB 7.1 BL 1.2 Overclocked to 1.5ghz with working camera, latest ADW EX, Adobe flash and market. Both are super fast and UI similar to Froyo. I personally prefer the old UI over HC.
