Allo Allo!!
After jumping ship from the Samsung Captivate world... I found myself the proud new owner of a Dell Streak!!
I was happy to find a development forum for the device, and SUPER pumped getting to know my new toy!! Hehehe..
When I got the Streak.. it was used, and already had a Streakdroid 1.9.1 custom ROM installed on it,
Great ROM as far as I can tell, and will likely end up back on the ROM.
But... I am inclined to start from the ground up with the device.
I have been poking around the Streak forums looking for a definitive method to return the device back to its original state.
Any help or direction would be AWESOME!!! I learned my lesson bricking a couple of Cappys, to ask first instead of trusting sometimes conflicting methods posted.
I want to take my Dell Streak 5, running Streakdroid 1.9.1 ... and return it to the factory ROM, newest firmware.
Anybody?

Thanks again for the great links....
I had already discovered the Wiki and pdf... some AWESOME info..
But...
After feeling confident enough to flash... I went ahead with the instructions from http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=9694
Reached step #11 - "Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card" ... And find myself staring at a screen on my Streak with the Dell logo with a triangle/exclamation mark.
This does not seem right... lil' help before I touch anything?

This sounds like you are using a custom recovery to flash a stock rom.
Stock recoveries flash .pkg files, the custom recoveries flash .zip files.
It sounds like you need to flash a stock recovery for the rom you are trying to install.
Read this and this. The first link is to a part of a longer article on modding basics.
Edit: If you are trying to install a .zip at that screen just hit the power button to get past it.

Perfect assessment,
I am unsure how I ended up with the custom recover image... sorted and flashing properly.
Than you

The previous owner probably put it on to install Streakdroid. Glad you got it sorted out.

I'm sorry if this has been discussed ad nauseam.
I have an HTC Aria of which I have updated to the official 2.2.2.
what I want to do is simply completely erase the phone and instal the latest stable cyanogenmod.
I have followed all the links.

I just don't know where to begin at all. I don't know the terms. clockworkmod, fastboot, recovery, etc etc.
I haven't done anything with the phone at all because I'm too scared I'm going to end up with a brick.
if someone could just lay out the process for me step by step. of going to official 2.2 to cyanogenmod I would appreciate it sooooooooooooooo much.
I'm sorry I've failed at the forums but I just feel so overwhelmed.
thank you.

The last 2 links are the only ones you need to concentrate on. Since you have Froyo update 2.2.2 AlphaRevX is the only option you have to unlock your phone so that you can ultimately install CM 7.
First you need to follow the AlphaRevX thread to gain S-OFF (security off) on your Aria. Just a note, in these 2 threads, you need to remember that an Aria = HTC Liberty.
After you run AlphaRevX, then you will follow the steps that attn1 outlined in the 2nd post to install ClockworkMod recovery which will allow you to ultimately flash CM 7.
sigh. thanks for the help but I still feel like I don't really know what I'm doing.

Well at least you have:
1. Updated your Aria to the latest Froyo 2.2.2 (without bricking it)
2. Found this site and forum.and asked some questions
Depending on your technical level, I would read through those 2 threads. I know several of the posts had step by step instructions. They may be too technical, but it should at least help you narrow down what to google and search for to help you learn and gain some knowledge on how to procede.
I just followed this post:

Might want to replace the launcher with Launcher Pro. It is 2x smoother than the default ADWLauncher.
Other than that, go and have fun with your rooted phone! Just make sure to nandroid backup before you make any drastic changes.
Finally, light at the end of the tunnel. I was beginning to lose hope about my 2.2.2 Aria. Can't wait to get started.

The Gingerbread ROM is not exactly stable, and should truly only be run by those more seasoned with tweaking their Streaks because of the several issues it has...
I would suggest you start out with something more stable like SimpleStreak or my personal favorite StreakDroid 1.9.0 (I had issues with SD 1.9.1). so you get the feel of a custom ROM.
BUT if you are serious about wanting Gingerbread, I STRONGLY suggest you dedicate the hours necessary to read through the ENTIRE thread, make note of it's issues and make note of how to solve them when you run across them, because you will run across them, learn the processes of using the terminal emulator, using fastboot commands, making sure your computer has the correct drivers installed for USB connections and fastboot flashing... you should be proficient in all that BEFORE even trying the stable ROMs because sooner or later you will have to flash something to your Streak

Man no problem, I just wanted to make sure you didn't jump in there like a lot of people do and then come back having expected your Streak to be as stable as it is now... but as a note, there is no official kernel for Gingerbread for the Streak to my knowledge, and now that Dell has discontinued it there were probably never be. Maybe some superdev out there will be able to port IceCreamSandwich for us... we can be hopeful huh
Good luck with your Streak... and like I said, do LOTS and LOTS of reading, there are 3 or 4 amazing guides that explain how to do EVERYTHING, you just have to read them....
Also there are a couple youtube videos you can look at that show the process. one is custom rom installing and the other is flashing the dsp ..
I can't post live links so cut n paste...
Custom ROM
youtube.com/watch?v=3izgMselF-k&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
and DSP flashing..
youtube.com/watch?v=a5DEsHHNEp0
This will at least show you what is involved.
Its not hard but there are things that can go wrong so best to read around...
Recently i got dell streak and now i'm very disappointed hearing that dell has no plan for android 4.0 update for dell streak 5
Any custom Rom available running on android 4.0 for dell streak 5

No ROM for ICS, nor is there likely to be one unless the drivers are reverse engineered.

Its been made.very clear you have to do an extensive wipe to flash either the CM7 or MIUI ROMs on the Streak. The fact you are bootlooping or stuck at Dell logo proves you probably didn't do that OR worst case scenario you may have to reformat your entire inner SD as we have no idea what you did before going to Gingerbread.
So factory reset from BOTH recoveries (Dell recovery and Streakmod) and flash again.
I can't believe I just wrote that when its in countless posts... I must be in a good mood today

If you believe GingerStreak is good, then you want to try DSC or CM7. GingerStreak hasn't been updated in over a year now and was based on beta code for Gingerbread. DSC and CM7 are far more current, far more stable, and have few (if any) showstopper bugs.
honestly, i would recommend to try dsc 1.0 first and when you have familiarized yourself with it, goes for dsc 1.1
ICS is now being developed for the streak. I have been using the pre-alpha build and for me it is now good for use as an everyday rom.
Im not saying its 100% bug free yet but ive been using it for 3 days now and i can live with the issues it currently has now.
After todays update flash is now working and for me that was the only undesirable, with it now fixed I wont be turning back.
The rom is being updated at a good pace and I dont think the beta is too far away.
Hello guys,i am a complete novice to dell and have a dell streak 5 that is running android version
2.2.2
base band version GAUSB1A135100-EU.
kernel version
2.6.32.9-dj_steve-BFS-CFQ-KGSL2D-Vol-OC
oem version
190
build number
StreakDroid 1.9.0 from a DJ steve (on device when i purchased) and has basically ground to a Holt
I do not have much of an idea but i know that it needs updating.having read the forums about the updates my head is all over the place.
i ask please for a link to the correct firmware i need to flash.. and what i need to flash with the easiest way
Hope you can help me and point me in the right direction..I have took the time to read the forums but i still have no idea what i need for this device
as i have just received it.
Many many thanks in advance
Rather open-ended question because the correct firmware is going to vary depending on what you want to do. For instance, do you wish to revert to a stock ROM? Do you want to be as up to date as possible? Are certain features important to you?
I personally don't recommend going back to stock, but to go forward and get a custom gingerbread ROM. Check the development forum for four good ones: Longhorn 2.9.1, DSC 1.2, Cyanogenmod 7, and MIUI.

no need to revert to stock then... streakdroid 1.9 is the best for 2.2.2... so whats the point on going back to stock...? all stock are not optimized at all and have many hidden and useless application in it...
last time i tried using the deodexed stock but still it is not enough and does drain the battery too... custom rom is way better...
but if you insist on going stock.. i am not stopping you.. do what ever you want.. also updating to stock gingerbread such as olleh 407 has its own problem too...

I see from other posts that you are going to put 407 on the device and with this post why you're going that route is clear. Factory reset isn't required prior to flashing because flashing the ROM itself will wipe everything. What is required is that the stock recovery image for 407 be placed on the device before attempting to flash the ROM. Otherwise it won't work. I'm not going to go into detail on how to change the recovery image because there are sticky posts galore that have all the relevant info. A good thread to look at is in Streak 5 Android Development, titled "Everything you always wanted to know about the Streak but were too busy bricking it".

Hi mate thank you for your kind help, yes I have the stock recovery to flash first.the download contained both recovery and rom image.
I think I am about there with what to do...flash recovery with flashboot then boot to that recovery and install firmware from sd card having changed to update 'what I am still a little perplexed about is the region I think the firmware is 00,what do I need for U.K.

I had no idea as to what to search for as I have never even seen a dell before,I assumed it would be as other androids get a stock rom and just flash but was hit with so many differant roms...ones for each region etc.l could not find a post that said LATEST STOCK ROM FOR U.K DELL STREAK 5 or anything like it,and it was a hell of a lot more complicated than I imagined so I was stuck and asked for help.Thankfully with the snippets of help I have been given I am more knowledgable now and even capable of flashing the device properly I hope...and if for some reason someone else needs to know the same I will pass on what I have learnt from you guys gladly to help a android user
Once again thank you for your help and infomation

The country you are in and the carrier you are using do not matter when it comes to flashing a Streak ROM. All that matters is whether the region of the recovery matches the region of the ROM you are installing. Thus, for 407, you would need a region 14 recovery as 407 is a region 14 ROM. Unlocked Streaks purchased direct from Dell had their own region, 00. To flash one of those ROMs, e.g. 360, you would need a region 00 recovery.

Hello to ANYONE who can help me....
I bought a Dell Streak 5 and Im slowly going insane. I've tried system updates, manually downloading a file here and there, trying to upgrade the operating system in any which way I can. But its not working.
I'm sorry but im your worst nightmare - Someone with very basic skills...Im ok with pc's but mobile phone operating systems are another story!
Ok heres what I have in the 'About device' section:
Firmware version: 1.6
Baseband version: GAUSB1A110421-EU
Kernal version: 2.6.29-perf
OEM version: GAUSB1A110421
Build no: 3883
Im in the UK, its locked to 02.
What do I do?
Here's my silly questions:
DO I need the SD card in the phone for the software update?
I've notices DJ Steve done something that has no files anywhere with the links still on the info on websites?
When I click to system update on the phone, it goes to DELL and i go through the clicking, to then get a '404 - file or directory not found' ?
Any help would be appreciated x

Is there a one-stop-shop that can do it all for me (less headaches & stress)
To answer your last question first, no.
DJ Steve's info is dead and buried, along with Dell's OTA system for the Streak. The current custom ROMs are in the Development forum.
In general, you want to upgrade you need to start reading the info given in the wiki and in various posts on these forums. I can tell you that this thread gives general comments on the hoops you have to go through to upgrade from 1.6 to 2.3.3.
If I remember correctly, I used the QDL tool to update 1.6 to 2.3 prior to it being officially released by Dell. Is that not an option?
By his own admission he isn't tech savvy so that could cause more problems for him than it solves. Having never used the QDL Tool myself, you would know more than I in that regard as to what's involved.

Understood. Just to put this out there, I do have the QDL tool and tutorials in both word document and shock-wave player that walks you through the process. Just let me know and I can provide a link via PM to the files.
TheManii still has a link to the QDL tool on his dev-host account. But those tutorials could be very useful.

Thanks guys, this is very helpful. I'm also trying to update my Streak 5 (unlocked) running 1.6 but after I download the 2.2 software update from Dell and reboot/install it just hangs at the Dell logo screen. I also tried flashing a custom recovery via fastboot. It says write successful but when I try to boot into the recovery I just get a blank screen. I've tried CWM, TeamWin and StreakMod all with the same result. I was thinking there was an issue with installing those on 1.6 so figured I'd update the firmware first. Looks like I need to do some more research.
Thanks
Thanks for info!

No need to root at all before hand. Following the QDLTool and Streak Upgrade guide tutorial's and getting the drivers and everything setup, all I did was run QDLTool to factory reset from Android 1.6 to 2.2. Once I did that it's as easy as flashing a recovery with Fastboot and then throwing a custom ROM on your SD card to flash.
I'm running StreakMod recovery with the Traveler DSC ROM.
Thanks all for info x
