Recently i got dell streak and now i'm very disappointed hearing that dell has no plan for android 4.0 update for dell streak 5
Any custom Rom available running on android 4.0 for dell streak 5
I'm new and using dell for 1st time so please give a detailed guide on how to install custom Rom in it
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks!
No ROM for ICS, nor is there likely to be one unless the drivers are reverse engineered.

Absolute Noob guide to CM7 on the Streak
I made a step by step noob guide to upgrade to CM7 on the Streak.
YOU MUST TRY CM7!

all rooted!
Take a look at streak android development section and you will see your heaven...some recommendation from me,try power rom evergreen,dsc,cm7 and miui 2.4.20..the later two is not that stable though compared to power rom and dsc rom.

Its been made.very clear you have to do an extensive wipe to flash either the CM7 or MIUI ROMs on the Streak. The fact you are bootlooping or stuck at Dell logo proves you probably didn't do that OR worst case scenario you may have to reformat your entire inner SD as we have no idea what you did before going to Gingerbread.
So factory reset from BOTH recoveries (Dell recovery and Streakmod) and flash again.
I can't believe I just wrote that when its in countless posts... I must be in a good mood today

thanks a million , and thanks for your good mode too i have tired it , and it worked , and by mistake i have installed the gingerbread 2.4.4 instead of cm7 , and it is great

If you believe GingerStreak is good, then you want to try DSC or CM7. GingerStreak hasn't been updated in over a year now and was based on beta code for Gingerbread. DSC and CM7 are far more current, far more stable, and have few (if any) showstopper bugs.
honestly, i would recommend to try dsc 1.0 first and when you have familiarized yourself with it, goes for dsc 1.1
ICS is now being developed for the streak. I have been using the pre-alpha build and for me it is now good for use as an everyday rom.
Im not saying its 100% bug free yet but ive been using it for 3 days now and i can live with the issues it currently has now.
After todays update flash is now working and for me that was the only undesirable, with it now fixed I wont be turning back.
The rom is being updated at a good pace and I dont think the beta is too far away.

After jumping ship from the Samsung Captivate world... I found myself the proud new owner of a Dell Streak!!
I was happy to find a development forum for the device, and SUPER pumped getting to know my new toy!! Hehehe..
When I got the Streak.. it was used, and already had a Streakdroid 1.9.1 custom ROM installed on it,
Great ROM as far as I can tell, and will likely end up back on the ROM.
But... I am inclined to start from the ground up with the device.
I have been poking around the Streak forums looking for a definitive method to return the device back to its original state.
Any help or direction would be AWESOME!!! I learned my lesson bricking a couple of Cappys, to ask first instead of trusting sometimes conflicting methods posted.
I want to take my Dell Streak 5, running Streakdroid 1.9.1 ... and return it to the factory ROM, newest firmware.

But...
After feeling confident enough to flash... I went ahead with the instructions from http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=9694

This does not seem right... lil' help before I touch anything?

This sounds like you are using a custom recovery to flash a stock rom.
Stock recoveries flash .pkg files, the custom recoveries flash .zip files.
It sounds like you need to flash a stock recovery for the rom you are trying to install.
Read this and this. The first link is to a part of a longer article on modding basics.
Edit: If you are trying to install a .zip at that screen just hit the power button to get past it.

The Gingerbread ROM is not exactly stable, and should truly only be run by those more seasoned with tweaking their Streaks because of the several issues it has...
I would suggest you start out with something more stable like SimpleStreak or my personal favorite StreakDroid 1.9.0 (I had issues with SD 1.9.1). so you get the feel of a custom ROM.
BUT if you are serious about wanting Gingerbread, I STRONGLY suggest you dedicate the hours necessary to read through the ENTIRE thread, make note of it's issues and make note of how to solve them when you run across them, because you will run across them, learn the processes of using the terminal emulator, using fastboot commands, making sure your computer has the correct drivers installed for USB connections and fastboot flashing... you should be proficient in all that BEFORE even trying the stable ROMs because sooner or later you will have to flash something to your Streak

Man no problem, I just wanted to make sure you didn't jump in there like a lot of people do and then come back having expected your Streak to be as stable as it is now... but as a note, there is no official kernel for Gingerbread for the Streak to my knowledge, and now that Dell has discontinued it there were probably never be. Maybe some superdev out there will be able to port IceCreamSandwich for us... we can be hopeful huh
Good luck with your Streak... and like I said, do LOTS and LOTS of reading, there are 3 or 4 amazing guides that explain how to do EVERYTHING, you just have to read them....
Also there are a couple youtube videos you can look at that show the process. one is custom rom installing and the other is flashing the dsp ..
I can't post live links so cut n paste...
Custom ROM
youtube.com/watch?v=3izgMselF-k&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
and DSP flashing..
youtube.com/watch?v=a5DEsHHNEp0
This will at least show you what is involved.
Its not hard but there are things that can go wrong so best to read around...
I have an old streakdroid ROM atm and it sucks. Crashes all the time. I was looking at the wiki and a **** ton of ROM versions exist.
It seems from what I have read the the newer ROMs and versions of android actually run faster. Is this true?
What is the best ROM out now and what should I be concerned with? Will my device get banned from the Google Market? (Who cares I can update/install apps manually)
It has been a while since I have flashed. I downloaded the newest rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355878 but I do not see an update.pkg to update.
I know I should do a factory reset before reflashing but I have also heard that flashing from old versions causes problems.
Right now I am running 2.2.2 Android with the 2.6.32.9 DJ_Steve Kernel.
StreakDroid5 v1.9.4
I can put in the work but it seems some things have changed and I just want some direction before I spend the next week reading thread after thread to catch up to what is going on.
What ROM should I use with what mods?

You still have ALOT of reading to do, come back in a several days...
Most of us now are running a gingerbread variant but it has it bugs obviously so I'm begging with to not flash any of these until you have done a lot of reading so you won't be posting senseless threads on your problems... each ROM has it's issues very clearly in it's own threads by the devs so don't create a new thread with an old problem... I can't tell you which is the best because they are all pretty good, the best is up to you
I suggest [ROM] [INTL] [WIP] DSC v0.73
This is probably the best ROM out now. But you no longer update via an update.pkg - its been awhile You will need to install streakmod via fastboot then boot into streakmod to select your dsc.zip update. There are lots of details on how to do this on the DELL STREAK forum.
I wouldn't go with the just out cyogenmod ports - they are bugging and still a major work in progress.
Course this is my opinion but I have installed them all ...many times

Rather open-ended question because the correct firmware is going to vary depending on what you want to do. For instance, do you wish to revert to a stock ROM? Do you want to be as up to date as possible? Are certain features important to you?
I personally don't recommend going back to stock, but to go forward and get a custom gingerbread ROM. Check the development forum for four good ones: Longhorn 2.9.1, DSC 1.2, Cyanogenmod 7, and MIUI.

no need to revert to stock then... streakdroid 1.9 is the best for 2.2.2... so whats the point on going back to stock...? all stock are not optimized at all and have many hidden and useless application in it...
last time i tried using the deodexed stock but still it is not enough and does drain the battery too... custom rom is way better...
but if you insist on going stock.. i am not stopping you.. do what ever you want.. also updating to stock gingerbread such as olleh 407 has its own problem too...

I see from other posts that you are going to put 407 on the device and with this post why you're going that route is clear. Factory reset isn't required prior to flashing because flashing the ROM itself will wipe everything. What is required is that the stock recovery image for 407 be placed on the device before attempting to flash the ROM. Otherwise it won't work. I'm not going to go into detail on how to change the recovery image because there are sticky posts galore that have all the relevant info. A good thread to look at is in Streak 5 Android Development, titled "Everything you always wanted to know about the Streak but were too busy bricking it".

Hi mate thank you for your kind help, yes I have the stock recovery to flash first.the download contained both recovery and rom image.
I think I am about there with what to do...flash recovery with flashboot then boot to that recovery and install firmware from sd card having changed to update 'what I am still a little perplexed about is the region I think the firmware is 00,what do I need for U.K.

I get all that but I needed to ask...and folks should not be made to feel bad just because they have asked for help... I had no idea as to what to search for as I have never even seen a dell before,I assumed it would be as other androids get a stock rom and just flash but was hit with so many differant roms...ones for each region etc.l could not find a post that said LATEST STOCK ROM FOR U.K DELL STREAK 5 or anything like it,and it was a hell of a lot more complicated than I imagined so I was stuck and asked for help.Thankfully with the snippets of help I have been given I am more knowledgable now and even capable of flashing the device properly I hope...and if for some reason someone else needs to know the same I will pass on what I have learnt from you guys gladly to help a android user

The country you are in and the carrier you are using do not matter when it comes to flashing a Streak ROM. All that matters is whether the region of the recovery matches the region of the ROM you are installing. Thus, for 407, you would need a region 14 recovery as 407 is a region 14 ROM. Unlocked Streaks purchased direct from Dell had their own region, 00. To flash one of those ROMs, e.g. 360, you would need a region 00 recovery.
I hope that clears things up.
I bought my streak from india and it has has rom 357

[QA] DELL VENUE 7/8 Intel General Discussion:
I am forking the original thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2520166
I have desided to take it upon myself to start a new thread for the general Q&A of the these two devices:
Dell Venue 7 and Dell Venue 8 Intel Atom Devices fell free to post question and general topics here but please before posting read or search the whole thread your question or topic might of been covered already.
General: Venue 7 = V7 ; Venue 8 = V8
if something was covered already in the old thread please quote or link the post in this thread for everyone to see and be sure to credit the original poster.
Please don't ask about rooting in this thread there is no public root method for the V7 on either 4.2.2 or 4.3 or V8 4.3 yet, rooting and development discussion has been moved here:
rooting and development discussion no root yet
this is my final warning do not update yet Dell could change the update at anytime and break my root method.
sucessfully rooted Kitkat i know what additions i have to add / change in the toolKIT to root it so its off to bed really glad i didn't release the toolKIT yet would of sucked to of had to have everyone re-download after a week or have dell fix my root method better that they did lol.... please stay tuned.
my daughter will be out at her biological fathers this weekend so i'm going to do my best to get everything updated and uploaded by the end of the weekend.
this is my final warning do not update yet Dell could change the update at anytime and break my root method.
i am working on capturing the ota for the v8 so i can provide everything needed for a rooted Venue KitKat.
so please be patient as of now the Venue 7 KitKat has successfully been rooted on KitKat.
less than 24 ours after the ota dropped i say that's pretty good for being just a hobbyist......
this is my final warning do not update yet Dell could change the update at anytime and break my root method.
As always please follow all XDA rules and PLEASE RESPECT other users.
my post to Dell's facebook page Dell Venue 7/8 Intel Unlock Request like, share comment, maybe with enough support Dell will unlock these devices.

Request
Are there any plans for a custom recovery (CWM, TWRP) for the Venue? It really enstringes me that the Venue series all have unlocked bootloaders yet there are no recoveries to flash.
All the best,

I plan on attempting twrp after I finish the toolKIT and updating the factory images for both devices.
That is a miss conception the bootloaders are in fact locked the v8 dev conversion comes with a dev signing tool to sign the kernel, modules, and boot.img it also only comes with the boot stub for boot not one for recovery or fastboot though it might be possible to sign images repacked with the Intel packing tools that turl originally supplied.
But we will see.

Thank you. Another thing worth noting is that I can't get a lot of root apps to work on the JC stock rooted 4.3 flash. Firstly, I cannot modify iptables, which is the basis of DroidWall and Orbot Privoxy, both important apps to me. This appears to be a kernel incapability... Specifically the netfilter command.
Another major problem I'm having is that I can't install Xposed. It writes/installs properly but my V8 goes into bootloop, not fixable until I disable Xposed.
I also installed Busybox, manually mounted /system rw, and tried everything one more time hoping it would fix it, nothing changed.
Also worth noting is when I flashed the JC ROM, SuperSU did not come with it and I had to install it manually. Not sure if this is normal.
Any help is appreciated,

I have a venue 7 personally so I have never used the case root image. I haven't tested I was working on obtaining the remaining images for the factory v8. and a simple toolKIT to make flashing for the average user as easy as possible. If you look back through the root thread there is a version of exposed that was beta for the Asus Intel tablet that works just don't update it, in the tool kit I hope to have finalized tmrw I included an installer for the working exposed few.

Update: I got Xposed installed using the Asus/Intel beta mentioned above (thank you!). I'm finding myself pretty happy with my tablet now. Even though it was stock, there were just some obvious things missing, one of them annoying as heck: lack of a restart button (really?). I installed Gravity Box and everything seems to be working fine on this beta. I even got XHaloWindows working! Screenshots attached. I was definitely not gonna be able to live without multitasking, and I had a feeling it wasn't gonna work with our x86 tablet. So just so everyone knows, everything Xposed related is working, and I included pics of my current setup.
It's still driving me nuts that nothing iptables related will function. I am aware that this can be fixed simply via ticking a setting in the kernel configuration file. Netfilter to be exact. I'm hoping that can be fixed. (I'm not smart enough to mess with kernels yet lol).
I hope this inspires someone!

Did root break encryption making for anyone else? I can start the process but then the tablet just reboots.

Hi,
I am a little confused about this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2681793...why is it in the General forum and not in one of the Dell Venue subforums? It really doesn't belong in the main General forum, so I need to move it somewhere more appropriate and I don't want to just blindly move it into the Venue forums, if there was a reason for it to be elsewhere.
Thanks

Thank you it is much appreciated that you didn't just blindly move the thread without asking first.
I don't feel the Venue forums located under the legacy / low activity devices is the proper place for these devices, the venue device covered under that is the old failed DEll Venue Phone and not the New Intel Mobile Internet Class Device that these tablets are, there were a few threads created by other users for these device under that heading but it seemed to have been causing confusion for both users of the Venue Phone and New users with the Venue 7 / 8 and was hard for new users to find...
The other issue was the original thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2520166 was becoming a very toxic environment users getting upset about people posting general questions in a root thread so i felt the need to separate rooting and general device discussion into two threads.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2681793 the forum you inquired about located under General discussion
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2681783 my other forum also located under General discussion.
While i understand that both these threads are misplaced under the General discussion > General > heading i feel that if they need to be moved a new device should be created for them to keep the seperate from the older Dell Venue Phone. Honestly i fell XDA needs to create a new category to house all Intel Mobile Internet Class Device as this is an emerging market.
thank you for your time and please please please on behalf of the Dell Venue Intel Mobile Internet Class Device users i beg you not to move our device to the dead section.
We have a large system update, any info on what it is?
