I am currently on 4.1.83 and *only* rooted. I have been trying to search and follow different threads, but could not get a clear answer. I did see the thread about Hard-Bricking which is what prompted this question. After my research, here is what I plan to do (from what I can tell to be the safest)
* Flash back to SBF 4.1.83 stock using this from this thread.
* Then use PUDDING SBF to unlock/root 1.8.3 as detailed here.
* Then use pudding again to update to 2.3.4 using the same thread above. (or can I skip above?)
* Then install CWM as detailed in this thread.
* Have all the custom ROM goodies .
Can anyone tell me this is a safe way to get to 2.3.4 Custom ROM goodies w/o hard bricking...Thanks
Ok..since there were no replies. This is what I did, I am unlocked (bl), rooted and CWM and with Alien #2 ROM.
* (Since I was on 1.8.3 stock + root) and was NOT unlocked. I flashed SBF 1.8.3 to go back to Stock. (DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU ARE ALREADY unlocked, you will definitely Hard Brick, as per my research).
* Then flashed 2.3.4 official 4.5.91 SBF (note: I did not do an OTA).
* Did the Automatic Unlock/root/CWM from this Forum.
* Flashed Alien #2 from CWM.
* That's it...

I am still on the older HKTW 2.3.4 and now that the newer ATT leaked 2.3.4 is out there i would like to know the best way to flash it? And by best i mean safest . I know there have been a lot of bricked atrix's, so any help is greatly appreciated!
Additional info:
I have installed Clockwork recovery
I have rooted it
Thanks
The best way is to use Ken's cwm zip. The danger is in updating using the orange pulled from moto servers and then trying to sbf back to an earlier build.
Ken's rom and Dorian's red pill rom are both fantastic.
Edit: This assumes you have the unlocked CWM, which I would guess is the case since you are on HKTW.

so can i just flash dorians redpill over my hktw 2.3.4, because he says you can do it if you are already on 2.3.4 but i am not sure if it will only work if you are on Kenns 2.3.4. WOuld the safest method be to flash back to 1.8.3, then unlock the bootloader and flash back to kenns 2.3.4 then to dorians redpill?
Hello there,
I have a dumb question, just for the sake of asking:
Will it be possible to go back to 4.1.83 from an unlocked 2.3.4 via CWM?
If a flashable 4.1.83 was to be available, will flashing it on a 2.3.4 custom rom after a full wipe will cause a hard brick such as flashing one using RSD?
This question is with no real intention to go back, just to satisfy my curiosity...
many thanxes
Look at the thread titled "OTA 2.3.4" in this section.

Yes it's possible via CWM. Safest way would be to use the "fruitcakes" that SamCripp created. The thread is in the development forum.

Alright so I'm completely new to all the droid rooting and what not and I've been wanting to upgrade the eclipse v .7 ROM to the latest version which require you to upgrade the kernel from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4. So my problem I have no clue what so ever on how to upgrade the kernel. I've read a few posts on upgrading but they just don't seem to make sense to me.

2.3.4 SBF
How-to SBF
The How-to SBF I linked you to is a very simple one to follow. MN-Shadow done a great job with his but may be overwhelming for someone with little to no knowledge of what they're doing.
Keep this REF Thread bookmarked. Booked does a nice job of keeping it updated. A lot can be found in many of those links if one takes the time to read through some of them.
So first I would upgrade the kernel and then flash the 1.3 eclipse mod?

"Notes:
You must be on the latest 2.3.4 build prior to flashing this due to no kernel being included"
That quote is from the Eclipse 1.3 thread in the very first post, or OP...
So first you sbf, then after its on 2.3.4, root it with Pete's one click root. Then install the bsr (our hacked up clockwork mod) and flash eclipse with it.

The only way to upgrade kernel for x2 is via sbf or OTA.
follow the links xodus provides and u will be just fine....don't be afraid...its not as it looks
just be sure to do exactly what the how to tells ya to ...be thorough
...
You defintely want to upgrade to 2.3.4....this was the best thing that ever happened to my X2....I was only days away from giving up on this phone when the leak hit,now Im loving it......
I would also suggest making a stock nano backup of your stock rom for 2.3.4 it might save you from another sbf if things go wrong. Then you can restore your stock back up instead of doing a sbf. Just a thought.
There was even a unreleased 2.3.5 update, and ROM's are most likely heading in that direction very soon. Nitro, who created the Eclipse ROM, asked his followers on Twitter if they would like to see a release on 2.3.5.
Is bootstrap recovery the same as clockwork recovery? Are they one and the same?
Also I'm on kernal 2.3.4 do I have to do anything special if I want to load a 2.3.5 rom?
Sorry I'm new to playing around with motorola phones.
I thought they were the same when I first started hacking my phone. But it turns out they are not the same.
As for updating your phone to 2.3.5, if you are on stock 2.3.4, all you need to do is root your phone, install bootstrap recovery and flash the 2.3.5 ROM using bootstrap recovery.
There is a nice guide someone put together in the dev. Section.

Basically, yes - those recoveries a almost the same. They are both used in the same way, which is to backup/restore, wipe data and flash a ROM. So there's no real difference.
As for the 2.3.4 kernel. SOME people can get away with flashing a 2.3.5 based ROM on their 2.3.4, others can't. Either way, I'd recommend just updating to 2.3.5 to safe. Plus (to me), 2.3.5 seems smoother and faster.
To Update to 2.3.5, just download the update.zip from here: http://www.multiupload.com/0ZT7FTOW0R
This is just the update file, so all you need to do is flash that, but I won't get into much about that.
If you need a guide on updating it, then you can look at this one right here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391824
That's the one I used.
Ok so I'm currently on Molten 2.2 wich is a 2.3.4 romand was looking at liberty rom wich is 2.3.5 rom. So all I would need to do is just clear the needed data and flash it like any other rom?
The reason for asking about if it was clockwork was because in one of the roms the instructions says to use clockwork and I never saw a like to clockwork in the dev section
Yes I looked in the stickies first and these were just the questions that popped up that I didn't see the answer to it. I may have just over looked it but I figured I would ask before I borked my phone lol
looks like while I was writing a responce some one answered lol thank you all for your help
U don't need to root to install 2.3.5
It is signed by moto so we can flash in stock recovery
(actually that's how you SHOULD FLASH 2.3.5)
And our BSR is a hacked/ported cwm
To update to 2.3.5 you WILL need to be STOCK (you CAN be rooted but it will take away root when u flash it....just root again with zergrush...)

Just so you know, Liberty is a 2.3.4 rom. Have a look at the OP in that thread. If you're on Molten, just wipe data and cache and you should be set.
I'm looking for a stock ROM that won't break root or bootloader. I recently switched from my iP4S, but I am having difficulties attaining a data connection and am hoping reverting to a stock rom/radio will resolve this.
I found HomeBase ROM, however, thanks to the Feds, the DL link is dead. Do I need to SBF, or does someone have a better option?
TIA

- Flash 198_7 SBF via RSD
- Root using your favorite method (I prefer torpedo)
- Install Boostrap Recovery
- Flash Skinny4G ROM
