I tried factory resetting my phone (running StreakDroid 1.9 i think?) and now it doesn't turn on, it just gets stuck at boot animation. And now it can't detect my sd card when trying to re-install rom? How can I fix this? :/
EDIT: I've tried installing the Purity ROM through recovery and it says
E:Can't find symlink /system/xbin/su
E:Failure at line 71:
Symlink /system/bin/su SYSTEM:xbin/su
Installation aborted.
Would really appreciate it if my phone will turn on again :/
How did you do the reset? The one from the settings menu while the phone is running doesn't work on the Streakdroid roms, if I recall. You have to use the reset on the first page after booting into recovery.
If you read the Purity rom thread you will see the answer to the issue you are having.
At this point I recommend flashing a stock recovery, stock ROM and then re-install Streakdroid or other custom ROM if you want.
BTW - the answers to all of your issues/questions have already been posted, you really need to research before you start customizing your phone and search when you have issues. You might try using google to search XDA if the XDA search is down.
It may be a PITA to read long threads about your customization options, but it can prevent you having issues or bricking your phone.

THIS THREAD IS NO LONGER RELEVANT AS IT IS FOR A DIFFERENT ISSUE FROM THE PAST... IT GOT BROUGHT BACK TO THE TOP. DONT CONFUSE THIS WITH THE 3E RECOVERY "ISSUE"
THE BELOW ISSUE HAS BEEN ADDRESSED BY KOUSH. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FLASH CWR VIA ROM MANAGER LIKE NORMAL NOW. IF YOU STILL HAVE ISSUES, THERE IS A FIX POSTED BELOW, THANKS!
Update from koush:
@clockworkmod Hey all, flashing recoveries through ROM Manager is busted. We hit a bandwidth/CPU quota on Google App engine.
If you are trying to flash Clockwork Recovery for the first time, it appears that a lot of users are having issues over the past 24 hours.
Normally, you would:
download Rom Manager
Click Flash Clockwork Recovery
it will ask for root privelages
you would select the Vibrant as your phone
after it downloaded CWR you would get a successful pop-up....
you could then click on reboot into recovery (and since it was the first time you would go to the stock recovery, click reinstall packages, and THEN you would go to Clockwork Recovery)....
well.... people can't seem to get there now. I am NOT having issues as I already have CWR. However, if you are, please download this file on your phones browser (just so you dont have to mount your phone to your pc.... which you can do if you prefer)
FILE DOWNLOAD HERE: View attachment update.zip
Move this file to the root of your internal memory. If you have any other update.zip file you can just overwrite it, or delete it prior to moving this file over, your choice....
NOW, go back to your stock recovery and press reintall packages.... you should go to CWR, if not, press to reinstall again... still no luck? blasphemy.
With all of that said, I need someone to post that this successfully works (it should, and you really can't lose anything)
I am contacting koush for an explanation of what's wrong....
i will check this out
everytime i boot into recovery and press reinstall packages my just restarts phone and i can't get into clockwork.
You generally have to tell it to reinstall packages twice.
^ that has not been the case for me.. but try it twice if if doesn't work the first time!
Yeah, it may depend on the ROM being run or something, but I've noticed it quite a bit.
yeah, something happened when rom manager updated in the last day where flashing recovery isnt compatable with galaxy s devices anymore. drove me freakin crazy cuz i just dl'ed nero and went to install and couldnt.
thank you again. +10 internets to u.
I started having an issue after flashing eugenes super kernel. I did a.clean install of axura and problem went away.
Powered by Axura
^ the rom would have nothing to do with it.
Koush has fixed this, it was server related.
THE BELOW ISSUE HAS BEEN ADDRESSED BY KOUSH. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FLASH CWR VIA ROM MANAGER LIKE NORMAL NOW (NORMAL STEPS STILL INCLUDED BELOW). I KNEW THIS WOULD BE A QUICK FIX FOR KOUSH!
As of 10mins ago i was having this problem.
But thanks to this post and installing the downloaded update I'm back up!
Rom manager gave me errors when flashing the clockwork recovery
so had to go to the update.zip and i'm now back!
Dont think rom manager in the market has been updated
[i was coming from a odin[ed] JFD stock.
hope this helps someone else!
Thanks... this works for me :\
I flashed to JL4 and had a freaking wifi boot loop and gotta go back to Eugene's does not brick ROM and found out can't install CWM via ROM manager
I don't know if its supposed to fix it, but even after flashing this Im still having issues with ROM manager. Get an error every time I try to update the recovery. Also, I can't remember the last time fix permissions actually worked (eclair maybe?).
Anyone else feel my pain?
This is a fix, and you trying to update the recovery is no different than those who have issues not even using my .zip....
I updated the op with a tweet from koush. He has a fix on his site too (might as well download it from here though?
I downloaded the new update, still can't get into clock work. When I hit reinstall packages it says ... E: error /cache/update.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
^^^ I'm having the same problem as well right now.
reinstall off market and it works
I thought I was sunk until an hour of searching found this post. Thank you all so much!
I have after upgrade to K6 the error messeage:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
I've try the update.zip from the 1st post,
reinstalled via market
update und select the Vibrant modell
everytime the same...
the phone is rooted via SuperOneClickv1.5.5-ShortFuse
Any help ?
None of this works because none of it addresses the real problem ,3E signature. Way to much trouble to go thru.
^ This thread was created when the Clockwork servers were down... it has absolutely nothing to do with 3e recovery... as that didnt even exist when this thread was created... hopefully others are not confused now that it was brought back to the top.
I didn't update it yet, because the thread was dead.
And to be fair the OP did have this:

I have rooted my Vibrant using ROM Manager/Flash CWM Recovery. (I'm running 2.2, Kernel 2.6.32.9, Build FROYO.UVKA6.) I used this method because no matter what folder on the external or internal sd card I could not use the 'reinstall packages' option on the reboot screen. Now, I'm trying to place the Bionx or Nero ROMs on my phone, but can't get anything to install no matter what I do.
I don't think I anything wrong with the root because I kept getting the same 'E:signature verification failed Installation aborted' message everyone else seems to be getting. I'm wondering if Samsung/T-Mo didn't put anything in to prevent rooting and adding new ROMs.
I have rebooted my phone multiple times and have not gotten any results. Along with ROM Manager, I have Busybox installed.
Please feel free to ask questions for more details. I'm a noob to rooting, so I definitely allow for the fact that I might have screwed something up and will need to start over.

This is because you are now on 2.2. Samsung patched the exploit from 2.1 that allowed cwm recovery to be flashed. The best thing I can tell you to do since you have root would be to either
A) ODIN down to 2.1 ROM then root again, then install rom manager and from there you can install cwm recovery OR
B) Use this method I posted based on Supercurios voodoo kernels found here:
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Samsung-Vibrant/on-steps-to-flash-Bionix-V-1-2/m-p/720803#M5807 (look for the answer marked solution - and because you have root skip ONLY that part and download the proper supercurio's zip not the tar).
Supercurio's vibrant kernels found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480
Do this before you try anything else, this is your quickest and least painful solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
Then:
When you boot into recovery and hit Reinstall Packages, the phone might reboot back into recovery, Reinstall Packages again and it will take you to the mod recovery, no more sig. verification.
Congrats!
Thanks.....
roumenjr and mavsfan.
I was able to get the root done. I took roumenjr's suggestion and it worked once I figured out that I was placing the ROMs in the wrong folder.
Now running Bionix Obsidian v2.
oooops..............
I've searched and scoured the earth for an answer to this issue but have drawn a blank so far, so thought I'd ask the experts.
Basically I'm not able to install any ROMs on my GT-P7510UW 32 Retail Wireless tablet.
I'm able to get CWM on, I'm able to Root it, but when I try installing a ROM I get a variety of different issues. For example trying to install the Bonsai ROM I get the following :
assert failed: run_program("/tmp/install-script") == 0
E:Error in /sdcard/Bonsai_GT-P7510_v0.3.0.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
On the StarBurst ROM it just seems to install REALLY quickly, then when I reboot I'm stuck on the Samsung startup screen forever (the very first one reading "Samsung Galaxy TAB 10.1" before you get to Download/Recovery
I've used Odin to get back to Stock, still can't install ROMs.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Try task's rom. I run that with pershoots kernel and its perfect. It does take a long time to boot the first time you boot after you flash. Also, after you flash the rom, stay in CWM and format the cache and everything. Then give it some time on the first boot
Hm. How long should it take to actually install the ROM within CWM? It only takes about 10 seconds, if that. Then it says its finished, and I manually initiate a reboot.
I've left it on the loading screen for about 30 minutes and nothing happens after that, so I get the feeling the ROM install just isn't working...
But I'll try Tasks ROM and see how that goes
Same Issues
Is anyone else running into the same problem? I'm getting the exact same issues here.
It is highly recommend not to install 3rd party ROMs. None of the ROMs created by the hobbyists here are as stable and reliable as the stock ROM.
It is highly recommend not to listen to 3rd party posts. None of the posts created by the hoboist here are the mark of a stable and reliable mind

I'm still getting this issue, and it would seem that nobody has an answer?
I've tried about 5 different ROMS, all fail. So it's not a ROM problem.
I've followed all the instructions to the letter, I've read various guides and confirmed I'm doing it right. So is there something different about my Tab that it seems to be screwed and won't allow any ROM installs??
I've also restored to Stock, used a .pit file so re-partioned also. Cleared every sort of data/cache you can mention.
Hi all, I have a problem that I am struggling to find an answer for.
When ever I try to do a back up using ROM Manager I get :-
opening update package...
verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-life signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
When I first got my phone I rushed into rooting it and flashing it without really knowing in my head what I was doing but just following instructions off the net. The rom I installed was :-
lite'ning rom v6.1 xxkh3
I also installed kernal '2.6.35.11-ninphetamine-2.0.5+ [email protected]#', as I believe this was the correct one at the time.
My baseband version is 'I9100xxkh3' (If needed)
From the research I have done I think it is the kernel that is causing the problem as I have read you need a compatible cwm kernel and I'm guessing this isn't???
I'm wanting to flash a newer ROM now but as I'm more clued up(but even more confused) I want to create a back up first but as I can't I'm stuck with this ROM.
Can any one help me here regards what kernel I need? If that is the suspected problem??
Thanks
Mark
Your rom manager is causing a lot of problems as most roms do not work very well with it.
If you are rooted you can use cwm to make a back up.
the kernal is not causing the problem as you can mix and match kernal with out any problems.
Stop using rom manager, just boot into recovery if you want to install/backup roms and wipe phone.
^^ +100
I've only used Rom Manager twice. First time to to a backup, broke pretty much everything. No recovery & bootloop. Obvious incompatibility issue at the time between it & CW Recovery. Until recently was doing everything thru recovery. Tried flashing a kernel this week thru Rom Manager again & it worked just fine.
Obviously you're having problems with it, so rather than tempt fate, I'd stick with Peachpuff's most excellent suggestion of doing everything thru recovery rather than risk causing yourself unnecessary grief.
Thanks cosmic blue!!
Followed your instructions and worked first time.
I confirmed this by going into rom manager and it now shows a back up.
I always thought Rom manager and cwm was the same thing but now I know.
Is Rom manager still something worth installing though? Or is it just a reliability?
Thanks again all those that helped.
Mark
I would uninstall RM & just use CWM, as suggested earlier. You might want to install Mobile Odin (Market), in case at some point you need to flash another kernel that includes CWM.

Your welcome
Rom manager is not worth installing as there are other ways of doing the same functions of rom manager.
using cwm, titantium back up and root explorer will do the same job as a rom manager.
titantiuam baclk up and root explorer are free apps on the market there are also paid versions of the apps which are upgrades.
try the free versions, if you like them then buy the pro versions.
hi guys,
ive managed to mess up pretty well today.
i have messed about with rooting etc but it was a couple years back so forgive me if im being stupid
i was attempting to put lollipop on my HTC One Mini.
so far i have;
unlocked the bootloader
installed CWM
Heres where ive messed up...
i followed instructions to dump my required files onto my phone (CM12 (nightly) ROM, Gapps and SuperSU)
i then booted into CWM, did all the data wiping etc as instructed, i then tried to install the .zips but i couldnt fine them anywhere so now i cant boot the phone or anything
any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
P.s im not sure if i have posted this in the right place. please move it if it isnt, thank you
i have found on google that i can boot lollipop using sideload on adb but every thing i try just gives me error: closed or failed to write data.
i have tried
adb remount
adb sideload
adb push
nothing will work
Update please read
I HAVE A FIX
I really hope that anyone who has been pulling hair out like i have all day finds this and i hope it helps them.
i had CWM installed and it didnt find my .zip files, rom, gapps and superSU
i tried sideloading and a million other commands but it kept giving me errors
i then installed twrp and tried sideloading, still nothing. what i did then notice is, TWRP found the .zip files i had put on so i did the usual "wipe data, factory reset" stuff on there and then had a go at installing the CM11 rom zip file and it worked!!!!
i have now since decided to use the candy5 5.0.0.zip and it has booted up perfectly. i have superSU installed too!
The only thing i am still working on, is trying to get the gapps installed BUT.... i no longer have a soft bricked phone. I really hope this helps somebody else. feel free to ask me for help on this. i am only a n00b at this but i may have tried something you havent.
Best of luck guys.
