I had a spare Garmin GPS mount laying around so i decided to use it since the dimension are very close to the 3D. I have a case-mate barely there so i had a slight gap(I'm not sure about otter-box case but the thicker the better fit). I bent the gps mount slighly invard until the gap was closed and padded it with rubber bands so there is no slipping and now it fits perfectly and very firm. As an added bonus both the cameras are exposed.
That's actually pretty slick man!! Well done, and looks better than a lot of car docks I've seen on eBay

Works even better when you have the side tabs from the otterbox defender see my previous post.

The TPU cases look pretty great, I may end up going with one of them. But the camera portion is raised up so the phone still won't lay flat.
Any suggestions for a slim (the slimmer the better) case that just has a cutout for the camera?
Well the phone itself doesn't lie very flat. Any thin case that doesn't cover the camera should lie flat but personally I really want the camera covered so i got the tpu hybrid (white) from eBay and really enjoy it. Good luck finding the right one! Thankfully cases are so cheap nowadays that $15 will get you several cases.
besides TPU, i really enjoy Casemate's ToughCase.
REally nice design and not any thicker than the TPU
I like my Otter Box commuter and it lays flat.

The Seidio Surface(aka The Platinum case at Best Buy) will make it lay flat, but as mentioned above, it doesn't cover the camera area.
If you look around, it seems like any case that DOESN'T cover the camera area will make the phone lay flat as the way those cases protect the camrea area is make their case thick enough so the camera area is slightly recessed.

Just got mine yesterday, love it. Not as bulky as the one on my Hero.
I've got an evo 3d with a tpu case and am looking for a dock that it would fit in so I can dock it while I'm at work.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
Already a few threads on this. With that said I have the exomount universal mount and its great 20$ on Amazon and it sticks really well the grip is strong and sized well enough I can miss both the volume and camera buttons I've used it with no case ballistic soft gel and the platinum cases all with no problem.

So you use a car mount at work? It sticks to your desk pretty good? The desks in my office would not allow a suction cup to stick. I'm about ready to make my own to work with a tpu.
I have the Ebay dock with a spot in the back for an extra better. Queue great with many thin cases. Tpu, Otterbox commuter, Seidio Surface, Otterbox Impact, etc. I have 0 complaints and I've had it since just after the Evo 3D launch

igrip works with tpu and hard case. i have it and its awesome.
I'm using a spider podium at work. I wanted a dock that I could use in portrait mode - and the spider podium works great once I got it shaped the right way. It's sturdy enough that I can use my phone and swipe as usual.
I'm surprised no one's made a dock that could be used in both portrait and landscape mode. It would just need L-shaped material - with the phone dropped in in landscape, then rotated as needed. It would seem an easy enough feature to add.
Kidigi makes one, http://www.4u-mobi.com/onlineshop/online_shop_detail.php?pid=5756
Does anyone know of a case that fits both the nav dock and desktop dock without the need to remove the case? I see the docks come with an adaptor plate that is used with cases, but which cases work? Want a good case that doesn't add too much bulk to carry in pocket and maybe on belt but also goes in docks.
Thanks
You would need either a thin, silicone case, one of the invisible shield-type skins, or a case that doesn't have anything near the ports on top of the phone.
I tried the Otterbox commuter case (the thinner of the two) with an HD station in the Verizon store here. Removing the insert on the dock allowed the ports to line up properly, but the male connectors were not long enough to make proper contact. Removing the plastic, outer case may have helped here, but not by much.
Have you tested it with one of the silicone cases?
I have both the Mobi hard shell and the Otterbox commuter cases. The otterbox fit really snug in the travel dock and charges fine. The 2piece mobi hard shell case fits the travel dock a little loose but works fine also.
My friend has the otterbox commuter case working with the home dock. He said he had to remove a very little amount of plastic from the dock with a hand file.
I have the incipio two-piece case (hard/soft shell combo) that fits very well.

The Verizon high gloss silicone case fits both.

I can confirm both of these about the commuter series otterbox. Fits really nicely in the travel dock with the insert removed. I thought the otterbox was made for it it fit so well.
The home dock on the other hand is another matter. I think ill try what your friend has done as it seems the hard plastic piece seems to be the troubling piece. Ill let you all know what i find. Hopefully posting some pics later on this week.
I have the Boxwave Duo Suit they are also known as the Cimo-S case (they appear to be identical). These fit but you need to remove the insert from the dock.

The belt clip combo case that Verizon sales fits in the Navigation dock. At first I thought that it wouldn't work because it was too snug of a fit, but a few days later I realized that there was an insert that I needed to remove from the dock. After a little pry work, the insert popped out and it fits securely enough.

I've been looking around for the perfect kickstand case and so far I found a these two cases:
http://store.androidcommunity.com/seidio-active-case-with-kickstand/4A225A13441.htm
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-DROID-Holster-Kickstand-HTC6435/dp/B00AA5CCHE
The SEIDIO case has a cut-out for the back notification light and looks very nice, but it also looks thick and the description warns it might not work with some wireless charging pads.
The HTC OEM case looks good but doesn't have a notification cut-out and appears to be cheaper quality than the SEIDIO case.
Feel free to contribute if you find anymore cases that offer a kickstand. Thinner cases are preferred since it will work better with wireless charging.
EDIT: I also found this one http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?productid=78496
...and this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-silic...125251?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item41705ea5c3
I think the "OEM" one isn't really OEM or HTC. It's a case Verizon carries for all of their phones. I saw it in the store, and I liked it a lot, except that it doesn't protect the front edges on the top or bottom at all. The Seidio looks a bit bulky. For now I have the VZW silicone one, and I'm just living without a kickstand. I hope that Seidio does a surface case with kickstand (surface is their thinner model), but we'll see.
I'm using the Verizon case and like it. Not a lot of protection but the kickstand is nice and I use it to help use the phone one handed. Also enough lip to keep the screen off the table when laid flat. I made a notification cut out with a heated up screw driver.

dowant.
Same here, I have the Verizon silicon one and honestly its fine other than not having a kickstand. It could feel better on the back but that doesn't bother me much.
If SEIDIO can make a thinner version of that kickstand case I'll be all over it.
Recently I've been on the search for the perfect car mount. I came across this.. Does anyone have any experience with it? The thin magnet should slip into our back covers and not hinder NFC if placed in the right position. This is great for me because I'd like to go into car mode and open the music app when I mount my phone.
http://www.amazon.com/iMagnet-Magne...e=UTF8&qid=1351802153&sr=8-1&keywords=Imagnet
This looks great.
I own 3 love them I change my phone at least once a year I like big phones wife likes smaller phones. I do like to set them so the phone can touch dashboard but more for my own OCD than a need and the magnet is in the base just metal plate you put in the case. I use the bigger one they send with the 3m tape cleaned off.
I'm planning on buying one of these this weekend. I don't like the suction cup, or CD tray mount options, so I'm probably going to take it apart and use just the base magnet part with some 3M double sided tape.
If it works like I'm hoping, It will prob be the last mount I buy. It's been a pain to find aesthetically pleasing car mounts for phones with cases.
Only thing I have a little worry about, is some people in the reviews say their note 2 would start to slide off some times. Hoping it's not really an issue, and more to do with how they places the metal plates in their phones.
Warning do not use with wireless charging back it will overheat
Does it charge?
sent from my sm-9005.
Does not charge but holds my note 3 great.
I have one of these and I love it. My N2 did tend to slide off a lot though, but usually only when I had a thicker case on it. Nothing a second backplate wouldn't fix, I'm sure. I modded mine to fit on one of these and it sits quite nicely on my dash. I haven't tried it with my N3 yet because I lost all the little backplates it came with. Time to hit the hardware store, I guess.
I have this for my Note 3. It really depends on your car's suspension + case.
My car has very stiff suspension and is low so any type of road bump can shift my phone on the magnet. If I don't adjust the phone after a bit, the phone will fall off.
Now the cases:
Caselogy leather case = N3 will shift around but not fall unless I adjust
SupCase Unicorn Beetle = N3 will shift quite a bit and fall.
Spigen Slim Armor = N3 will fall. The case is too heavy for the iMagnet
Again, it really depends on the case you use + your suspension. The N3 w/o a case on the iMagnet is perfectly fine... but I personally wouldn't risk it in my car haha.
I use this:
http://www.amazon.com/Super-Magnet-Mount-Phone-Detector/dp/B001D2E88Y
It works great. I used it with my Note1 with an extended battery, and it held it fine, even with the extra weight. Yes, if I hit a bad bump in the road it would come off. But it had to be pretty bad bump.
I have not put the metal plate on my Note3 yet though. I am waiting to make sure which case I am going to stick with first.
Plus....It is cheaper. I actually got mine for $2 each from Harbor Freight Tools a few years ago. Bought a couple of them. They are out of them now though, but I have seen them at car washes for about $5.
Just another option in case you were looking for something a little simpler.
Also, just so everyone is aware: If you live in a hot climate, a magnet in your car will get weaker over time. Magnets lose their power from heat. It isn't a lot, but it does happen, and the longer the magnet stays in your hot car, the more power it will lose over time, especially with cheap magnets. I am able to tell the difference between my old dash mount magnet, and the new one out of the box that has been stored in the house. Magnets do come in different temp grades. I'm sure that these phone mounts aren't using a high quality/temp magnet...would become cost prohibitive to their bottom line.

Hope that helps someone.
I use an iOauto mount along with a vehicle specific proclip mount. Very satisfied with it.

Do you guys know if the magnets will still work If you place an NFC tag on the mount?
I do hope the disc shape that's put in the phone case is actually a piece of magnetic material (steel, for example) and the magnet is on the base. This will expose the phone to far less magnetic flux than the other way!
I use the iMagnet with my N3 and it works great! The large metal plate fits underneath the battery cover and stays in place with a little adhesive.
The N3 holds much better than the N2 since it's lighter and the back cover is textured.
Highly recommended!

I have 2 rectangular plates underneath my Diztronic TPU case. Hold great to the mount. NFC transfer between phones worked without any issues. Spen works perfectly as well. Love this mount. So easy to use.

Same, just got it and placed both of the rectangular ones underneath my Spigen Bounce and Caseology Matte Tpu. Both work great! I put the stand right on top of my moveable steering panel behind the steering wheel because every other part of my Infiniti FX35 is like a leather finish and won't hold.
Here's a picture of the plastic mount area behind the steering wheel. Actually really convenient now so I can touch the screen easier and navigate without it blocking my view.
My only issue with this is with a case on, spigen neo hybrid, it didn't hold well.
