Google Talk voice chat defaults to phone no matter what - super annoying - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use google voice chat on my PC, but I'm also signed in to gtalk on my phone.
Problem is, it always defaults to phone, and keeps complaining "you're not connected to WiFi, so you missed a voice chat request"...
It's incredibly frustrating, because it's too dumb to call the PC/gmail instead.
Beside completely signing off on the phone's gtalk, is there any way to default to gmail for that?

And also in GTalk if you click on Sign Out it actually never Signs Out, that's a very irritating stuff as I only use a single Google a/c for chatting and another for GMail. I'd very much appreciate a way out of this.
Regards.

BUMP...
still a problem.. =(

"Automatically sign in" is for signing i automatically when the fone starts or when connectivity is established.
it is not like a desktop application since the app is linked to the gmail account on your fone.
alternatively you can choose nimbuzz as an IM client if you dont want to sign in always with the same credentials..
The one thing I was trying to do was make it so it doesn't show that I am always available. No matter if I log out or kill the app it always shows that I am available on gtalk.
Is there a solution to this?
Have you considered meebo or another app instead of using talk? I don't use chat apps but it might do what you are looking for.
I use ebuddy, but that is besides the point.
Here is the thing- since the gtalk is set up with the original google account (the one when you originally set up the phone) it does not let you delete that account off gtalk. But on top of that, no matter what I do i.e. sign out or kill the gtalk app (and even if it shows gtalk is not running), it always shows that I am available and never truly logs me out.
So with the original google account on the phone, I am now always available on gtalk and I can never log out- just really bothers me. Anyone have solution?
Thanks
Looks like the always available is an ongoing problem, I haven't found a solution yet...

Got it so ebuddy is no longer holding my gtalk hostage (I no longer show always available). I used the solution at the end of this forum:

[Q] Google talk authentication failed

Hi all,

Everything works fine (gmail, market etc) only problem is this annoying popup with notification sound. Could you please help me with getting rid of it? I need to disable it on android side, enabling chat on the account is not an option (other hell breaks loose then)
Thank you very much

Use root explorer. Data* data* com.google.android.talk. Delete this line and reboot. This will clear all data gtalk.

[Q] Google Talk Push Notification

Hey, so this question is vaguely an Android issue in general not particular to the Evo 3D, but since I have one, I figured why not. Anyway, does anyone else have issues with Apps that rely on push notification? For example, I have an application called Seekdroid that tracks your device and cell information, however the information is only sent when I open up Google Talk. And even if I try to locate it again 10 minutes later, I'll need to re-sign in to Google talk. Also, the Chrome to Phone app gives me the same issue, links will not push to my phone unless I sign out and back in, to Google Talk. So what's so special about the Google Talk app? Are notifications all pushed through the device through there, and any way I could work-around signing back out and in every time I need information pushed. (Lol, an app that tracks a stolen phone is not that useful if Google Talk must be signed in- and out, for it to send back the tracking data.)
Strange
I use Google Talk and Chrome to Phone and I never have to sign out and into Talk for CtoP to work and I use it all the time while at work. I say this only to suggest that it might not be an Android issue, just something with your phone. Wish I could help further.

Based on this information, it does seem to be an issue more perticular to your device and the android account authentication process. A few quick suggestions which come to mind and shouldn't take too much time and could potentially resolve the issue:
1) Assuming you're rooted, I would go into the /data/data directory for google talk and wipe out all the files there. This process effectively forces google talk to reinitialize the whole application from scratch erasing anything corrupt settings which might have developed. It also forces the application to authentic again and hopefully save down the correct settings files for itself.
2) Re sync the google account on the phone. One way of doing this is by removing the account from the device and adding it back again. I dont think this will work with the primary account only with alternate accounts.
Not 100% sure if either of these issues will work for your specific issue but I know when I've experienced push/sync issues with Gmail, probably uses same/similar authentication as google talk, wiping out the data settings directory clears the issue up very quickly!
I'm sure if there are other ideas/approaches ppl will post up. Let us know what you try and whether it works or not. Hope that helps!
Hey thanks for the suggestions but unfortunately I tried them, but they didn't work. Are you using more than one Google Account on your phone? I''m using two Google accounts but only one of them has talk linked to it, I'll try making a talk for the other account.
Only one

I only have one account linked to mine. Maybe try removing the other account. You could always try Titanium backup and a full wipe and just start over. I know this sucks but it does work sometimes. I thought joeykrim's suggestions were pretty good, and if those didn't work, you might have to start all over.
Good Luck
Hmm...Ill try removing the account, but this is a problem that's persistent on any rom I'm on.

the only other thought which came to mind....
i was looking around in the google talk application settings and the very first option listed at the top is, automatically sign in. do you have this checked?
that appears to be the only setting regarding sign in/out i'm seeing in google talk. i do have this checked and i know ppl seem to randomly send me messages which must mean i'm appearing online, even though i rarely open google talk, maybe once a week at most.
i'm still thinking it is an account sync'n issue as there aren't that many moving parts to the process .. one other idea as i'm typing, maybe having 2 factor authentication turned on would impact it? do you have that turned on for your account?
hopefully one of these ideas helps! keep us updated!
I have automatically sign in checked, I unchecked it to see if it'll help but still nothing. Sorry but I don't quite understand what you mean about the authentication thing.
So still no luck, I tried signing in to both of my Google accounts on my pc, making sure Google Talk was working via the browser. I tried chrome to phone many times, and tried tracking my device via the Seekdroid app nothing happens. Opened Google Talk and shows me signed in and available as always. Signed out, and signed back in on the app, and as expected all my links that I pushed came through, and the app was able to send the tracking information. However if I wait five minutes, I'll need to re-sign out and back in for the chrome to phone and seekdroid to do its job.
Okay Good News and Bad News. I finally figured out that it's nothing to do with my Google account, but it's my wifi network. As soon as I switched to 3G everything works perfectly without even touching the Talk App.
So now my question is, what will cause me to have to re-sign in and out of Google talk for the info to get sent to my phone when I'm on wifi?

[Q] First the camera now my gmail is not working....

I'm currently running CM10-20121210-Nightly-d2spr.
I was trying it to see if I can get the camera to work and of course it still doesn't focus so I've pretty much given up on the camera ever working again. I guess I can live with that but the one thing I cannot live without on my phone is the gmail not working.
I can receive emails just fine but it will not send emails. It says "sending" when I press send and acts like it's working but it never leaves the phone.
Also, now when I delete an email in my gmail account it is not deleting on my desktop. So I guess I have two problems, the "SEND" feature is not working and it's no longer syncing with my desktop.
Any help, suggestions?
Sorry - found the solutuion after posting
But if anyone else is having the same problem..
Go into settings, applications, manage applications, Gmail, then click on clear data. You may also try rebooting after that.

Issue with Contacts, Sync, Pictures, Messaging Client

Okay guys I have been having this or a similiar problem since back when i had my droid X.
Here is what happens:
I sync my contacts with google and facebook, pretty everything links okay and the contacts that don't I manually link to the proper facebook contact. All of my contacts have pictures now from facebook. When I use the messaging app my contact images seem random, some show up some don't. I have googled this to no avail and it seems that others do have this problem and something like syncmypix app can solve the problem which is the route i took with my Droid X. This method seems hacky to me and I really dont like having to run another syncing app when the pictures seem to already be connected to the contact.
The second bigger problem is that the contacts without pictures seem to not actually be connected to the proper contact at all in the messaging app. When i click on the "ghost man" (because the picture doesnt show up) thumbnail I am not forwarded to the contact details. However for contacts with pictures everything works properly.
When I use a third party messaging app (sliding messaging) everything works perfectly.
So the question is, am I doing something wrong? Is there an inherent flaw or bug in android that is ****ing this up? Is my cellphone data corrupt? What is going on... I love android but this is seriously almost driving me away as it has been an issue for almost 3 years with 2 different phones for me.
Thank you!
