Hello,
I got a problem with my mobile data connection and cant get it to work.
When I press the mobile data toggle widget on my home screen it gets me to Mobile Network Settings and displays a notification "Enable data first". I removed my APN and re-entered many times. Rebooted, did everything I could think of. I used an app Green Power to manage the mobile data connection so its not ON all the time. I removed it in hopes that it would fixed the issiue. No luck.. reinstalled it and still the same. Any ideas, please.. I cant get this fixed... the APN is enabled and is correct I have used it for over a week now without any problems.
Thanks!

Make sure data enabled has a check mark...
I am surprised this was so easy to fix. Thanks a lot!!

Hi hope someone can help.
I've bought an Xperian X10 mini for my daughter. She loves it. All her friends love it. The iPhone owners want one! (Big) but.....
She is not a heavy user, and so put her on a PAYG contract. However it is running out of credit very quickly, and when I checked the usage it is nothing she is doing, but some background app that is regularly (hourly) connecting with GPRS and doing... well something, but I have no idea what :-S The info on the usage (from Orange) is (e.g.)
date & time event type dialled number/description duration/vol(Kb) cost (?)
22/05/11 19:22 GPRS ap-prepaidsessio 38.0 0.00
with the same entry every hour:22
We have tried disabling as many sync type options / apps as we can find (e.g. Timescape) but it is still happening, and is driving me up the wall.
The reason I am even more annoyed is that most of the time it is at home, and connected (apparently successfully) to our wifi, so why the hell is it using GPRS anyway when there is an active wifi conection?! :-S
I have tried everything I can think of, and short of turning it off there seems little I can do. Can anyone help please??
- Which app is doing this?
- How do I configure it to either
i) use Wifi (preferred - would rather not disable functionality if possible) or
ii) stop auto syncing every hour?
Any help very gratefully received!
Thanks in advance
T
There are a couple of apps out there that can monitor data usage per app. But so far, all those that I found require Froyo (2.2) and above. I'm guessing your using the stock SE ROM so that's 2.1.
But there is an alternative.
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Click Usage Statistics
Click Battery history
Click the Other usage dropdown
Click network usage
That should show you which apps are using your network connection. But both wifi and 3g; at least it gives you an idea.
As to how to prevent use, you could go to each app and customize syncing options if at all possible. If you just want to block an app from using the network totally, I suggest LBE Privacy Guard, free on the market.

They have a thread here on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1091065
EDIT: BTW, the phone shouldn't be using GPRS when wifi is available. That's weird. First time I've heard of that happening.
Many thanks for the info - really useful - will check the links you've given.
On the wifi (and yes it is weird - and annoying!) could it be "connected" but without a "proper" connection? Is there some way I can check, e.g. switch off GPRS and see if can see www?
Just tried what you suggested (disconnected the internet from my wifi router, but router still on), and my X10MP didn't even attempt to connect to GPRS despite using apps which use data. The apps returned errors.
Maybe your X10M fails to connect to the wifi? I actually have no idea what's going on.
you and me both buddy!
thanks for trying tho!
I'll delete the connection anyway and try set it up again....
"no batterry usage data available"
do I need to enable something to collect it?

I didn't need to enable anything to use that. Sorry, don't know how else to help.
well it carried on despite various fiddling. so I did a factory reset.... no accounts set up no sync etc - factory reset - and it's still happening??!! so something SE/Android is doing it, but I still have no idea what? Surely I'm not the only person with this issue??!! :S :S :S

very simple fix, go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > uncheck Data enabled.
that way mobile data (gprs,edge,3g) is turned off and your problem is solved. If you're using stock SE software, theres a Data Traffic widget that lets you toggle the Data Enabled setting on and off easily.
Sync is not the only thing using data traffic, background apps can too, as well as some of the apps she might be using. ( some apps have adverts )
Thanks. Had also been nosing on SE site, and am obviously not the only person with this problem. I unchecked the box a few hours ago, am hoping that that cures it. I've also found anotehr PAYG plan with the same provider that has unlimited internet, so may switch to that. So one way or another will be resolved.
However I am still left annoyed. This ****** device is supposed to be under MY contorl not the other way round! Not knowing what is doing this, or (and because of this) not being able to stop it is ****** annoying! As is the fact it (whatever "it" or "they" are) is using GPRS when there is an open wifi connection!!
Ho hum - progress eh...
Well turning off the Data seems to have done the trick thanks. NOt really satisfactory not knowing what is doing it, but there we go. Thanks for all the help all
If shes not using the data at all, you can try to delete all access points - GPRS,WAP, etc. even MMS...with no APN, no connection, no access to net, no credit loss...Just go to settings-wireless networks-mobile networks-access point names-click on any of them-press menu button and choose delete...Im working for the operator so I solve this kind of problems every day :-D It is easy if you dont want to use net in mobile at all but still I think you should flash it with SEUS because your problem is weird.
That's the thing - she does use data. so want it to be enabled. but the vast majority of the time is at home with a perfectly good wifi connection, so why won't it use that?!
Anyway am swapping to a PAYG tarriff promising "free" internet, so will see how that goes.
thanks t

Check your APN settings again. The APN mightve got erased. Just look up the airtel/vodafone/whatever u have 3G APN settings online and enter it again and restart. Should work
All the APN is correct. I just now did a factory reset of the fone and still I face the same problem, All the settings are correct. The 3G icon displays and disappears again . The network carrier also says that all the service is correct. Something wrong with the fone only ., Any other way .,
Sorry to bump post , But in this article
http://www.android.net/forum/motoro...08-help-cant-create-new-apn-vodafone-sim.html
it says the fone is unlocked for voice and not data , is it true , if so how to unlock it and use it , I used it for a day and I didnt have the problem .
have you done any updates?
few people are reporting problem with latest update.
also try gsm/cdma settings(gsm prl etc)
..................
btw:darktranquality came to India and used air-tel successfully

Uncheck and recheck Data Enabled under Data Delivery and try putting the phone in performance mode. Also uncheck and recheck 'Allow GSM Data' under Wireless and Network. I fiddled around with all of these and got data to work again when I was in Bangalore last month
Hey Guys,
Ever since I switched from the original branded Three UK ROM, I've had basically no internet access at all on my phone.
Everything else works flawlessly, except I can't get internet connectivity.
I installed one of the "pre-rooted" roms from the forum a few days ago (unbranded UK Rom) and the issue still exists regardless of what APN settings I use or how I go about enabling/disabling the connection.
The phone simply dosen't show any kind of GPRS/3G signal on the status bar and only shows the standard phone signal with a little "R" above it. I've tried literally everything (going to the power menu, enabling/disabling data, etc). I've tried various APN settings posted on forums, but nothing works.
What else could cause this? The thing that is frustrating is that the internet previously worked on the phone.
Cheers,
David
Sounds to me like your phone is on national roaming..untick the box in mobile network settings, i to am on 3 uk and have never had any problems, are you 100% your apn`s are right ..let us know if you need check them with mine.
it does sound to me like we will have to step by step your settings to make sure there same as mine ie...know working.
Thanks for the reply lodger, where do you enable/disable national roaming on the phone?
Can you post all your settings so I can check against mine.
Thanks for the help

Settings > Mobile Network > Data Roaming (Check or uncheck).
Have you tried flashing a different modem? Try NELP3 (Flash via CMW)
Ok, first off I've searched many of the data connection issue threads out there but nothing seems to apply to my situation.
I'm having a problem where my data will disconnect whenever i receive/make a call and/or send/receive a text message. About 1-2min after the call has ended data will reconnect, if I toggle airplane mode data will reconnect a bit quicker.
I'm using a Bell Atrix, unlocked running Turl's CM9 from the below thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500535
I've had the phone for a year running the stock 2.2 then 2.3.4 then 2.3.6 and never had any problems until I unlocked the bootloader and installed CM9 a couple days ago.

You sure you're not in an EDGE/GPRS area? You can only have data during phone calls on 3G/HSPA+.
Edit: To verify this, go to Settings > About phone > Status and look at what it says for Mobile Network Type.

System settings/about phone/status/Mobile network type is :"HSPA:11"
I'm in a HSPA+ area, same location I've been using the phone since I bought it a year ago which is in the city core
ok, after a bit more trial and error I haven't been able to solve the problem but I have been able to narrow it down. As it turns out when GPS activates my connection will disconnect for the 1-2min as per above.
My workaround was just to disable GPS for the time being, but this isn't exactly a solution, if anyone has any advise it would be very much appreciated.

Remove multiple APNs. This happened with my old Desire Z. Whenever the GPS is on, data disconnects. Deleting unused APNs fixed this.
hmm, I've never deleted an APN before, if I do this will the network automatically reselect ones for me?
Don't delete everything, just delete what's not needed. The APN that's in use has a selected radiobutton at the right side. Leave that and the MMS one alone, delete the others.
I just deleted one of my two apns, then tested internet and a voice call which both still work, I turned GPS on and opened maps, I get the gps icon on the notification bar but it isn't blinking(also my network connection reset again), then I tried GPS test and again the gps icon at the top isn't blinking like it used to(it has the icon but it's hollow, i.e. no dot on the inside of it blinking) though my network connection didnt' reset this time at least.
I'm about ready to just chalk this up to CM9 on the Atrix just not working right because its unofficial and lacking proper drivers.
GPS icon in status bar does not blink when searching in ICS. You get a blank crosshair when it's searching for a signal, and a filled crosshair once it gets a lock.

ok so I tried turning gps on and running gps test, I let it go for 20min and it didn't pick up a single satellite(this is outside)
Try clearing agps data.
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for the advise, I downloaded "GPS Status & Toolbox" from the market and used it to clear my A-GPS data, this seems to have solved the problem of my network disconnecting, however I'm still unable to get any satellites to show up in GPS test(yes GPS is turned on).
Any thoughts?
Started having issues with my mobile data yesterday after flashing the new sense 5.5 ROM. (By NO MEANS am I saying that a ROM broke my phone!!)
If im not connected to a wireless AP I can not browse the web. I still receive text messages and emails but thats it.
In settings mobile data shows ":disconnected". I can turn it off and back on and it will stat e"turning on" for a few seconds, followed by "disconnected".
I tried to go back to sense 5 4.3 (i didnt have any issues while running that one) But it would not connect to mobile data either.
Took a drastic step and ran VipersRUU. Got back to factory and am still having issues with mobile data!
Re installed the firmware and radios. No help there either. Airplane mode does nothing. Power cycles, nope.
I done some google research and keep seeing "APN setting" mentioned.
How do i get to these settings? Im sure it is a ##code#, but Im not sure which one.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Have you tried this yet?
