Try the one call Barnacle. I'm using that now.

[email protected] !!! ! !!! !

yes should be in q&a, but wireless tether doesnt work because the stock kernel does not support it. you will need to wait until someone releases a custom kernel with support for wireless tether

thanks
mike

1.go to google type in "google code wireless tether"
2.click downoads.
3.install latest apk
4.????
5.Profit

2.07 is the one in the market. would not work. trying the latest beta, it works with 4g only. will try 2.08 now. 2.08 doesnt work either.

I have 2.0.7 from market and it started well.

anyone else with wireless tether issue?
thx

Yeah wireless tether is not working on my Evo 3D either. Seems to be it can't/doesn't have access to the onboard wifi manager.
I've been using barnacle and while it does work, occasionally I do get some errors about starting the wifi interface and have to restart the connection. :?

use this one: 3.1-beta2
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
once installed go to settings and check the box for Routing fix (HTC phones)

I can't get it to load pages while on 3G. I've also tried enabling the MSS Clamping option, with no effect.
also, when trying to access the Google Code page for Wireless Tether from my phone, I get a Google page with error 500, while I have no problems on my PC. anybody else seen this?
thanks!

Anyone find a version of wireless tether that works? The beta above worked seemingly, but my laptop wouldn't connect with internet.

Can confirm that 3.1 beta 2 works. need to select the check box for HTC phones.

Which ROM are you using?

I'm using 3.1 beta 2 and it works with the check box for HTC phones but now I'm getting a wakelock issue. I unstalled the 3.1 beta 2 and the wakelock issue went away. I'm currently using stock ROM and Keernle.
Anybody else having wakelock using the 3.1 beta 2?

Working Wireless Tether?

Anyone know which wireless tether app works with the temp root? I've tried a few and a no go.
I've seen claims of barnacle working, but have yet to try it myself.

Barnacle works perfect. Thank you, and I hit your Ty button.
It can't stay connected though, since root is temp, correct?

I have Barnacle wifi tether running on my 3D with temp root. Works great, but yes it is temporary for now.
If the wireless part isn't necessary, pdanet works just fine without root.

I can temp root with no problems using my MacBook Pro and Fre3vo but no wireless tethering joy for me. Wireless Tether doesn't work at all. Barnacle gives no errors with the ad hoc connection, everything looks fine, even Snow Leopard's network diagnostics say that my internet is working fine, but no data is transmitted or received. I even tried all the tips/tricks in this thread, still no joy. Any suggestions?
PdaNet works ok with USB but is very unstable with Bluetooth.
BTW I had no problems at all with the EVO 4G either in ad hoc mode (early versions of Wireless Tether) or non ad hoc (whatever that's called, recent versions of WT).
I've tried most of the methods out there and the one in this thread has the highest success rate IMO. One important thing: check your apps and if you have "Super User" installed as an app, uninstall it first before trying the method in that thread.
Barnacle works perfectly for me under that setup.
Mike
I have the same issue. I also have a mac so it might be a mac issue. I get tether to work on my wifes shift so I know my computer works.

Thanks, the version of wireless tether mentioned in the linked post worked for me and I'm posting using it! I had tried every other version of WT on the google site, and every version of Barnacle I could find, none worked.
BTW I didn't have any error messages or have to change any settings as that page suggests, it just worked the first time.
This is the only version of WT that starts without errors for me, and I have to us WT as it can set up the softap network (Asus Transformer doesn't see ad-hoc). It sees it and connects, but can never get an IP Address.
Anyone else experience a similar issue?
How I got it running......
1. Get temp root by one of the methods in the forum
2. Download the wifi tether apk from the root/FAQ thread.
3. In the settings change profile to htc evo 4g
4. In settings apply check to box to fix HTC routing.
Wifi tether should restart and you should be in business.

Just got it working on My Coworkers 3vo. download wifi tether 3.2 from the web, then go into settings and there is a setting in the menu that says enable for htc devices, once I did that it worked like a charm.
**Note** you need temp root

You mean this version, 3.1 beta 2? I've tried all the versions out there and some work perfectly some of the time, some never work, but none work all of the time. Can't figure out what changes, it's so random. I'm using the 3.1 beta 2 version to write this, but yesterday it didn't work and tomorrow I predict it won't work. BTW every time I start this version I get an error/warning message that some necessary thingamajigs aren't there, but I dismiss the message and it works anyway.
And of course I know I have to re-root after every restart etc.
works sporactically
Both Barnacle Wifi Tether and Andriod Wifi Tether work sporadically for me. It worked a few days ago and now it doesn't work.
is 4g tether working? I could not get it to work using barnacle
Barnacle works perfect for me with 4G...I haven't had one problem with it...
Supposedly, a beta version of "Wireless Tether for Root Users" worked so long as you checked a box in the settings that was specific to HTC devices. I forget where there.

Wireless Tether on Senseless Rom not working - Activating Wifi Interface failed

I tried the latest version of wireless tether on the market and then version 2.0.5. Both are reporting an error in the log "Activating Wifi interface...failed".

Did you set mms clamping, HTC router fix, set device to EVO 3d, then reload drivers, turn on tether and when it loads and starts, turn off...then get out of it, and reboot. This is what fixed it for me. You should be okay after you do this once.
Ok so I installed the latest update last night of senseless rom and reinstalled wifi tether and now it works. I didn't have to use any settings - who the heck knows why !

rooted tethering problems?

I have noticed that ever since I rooted my Thunderbolt I cannot tether. All devices will connect to my phone(other phones, computers, xbox, etc) but they cannot open a web browser. It used to work on the hotspot ap that came with the phone. The only thing I can think of is that on the stock app, I could change the security to wpa/wpa2/wep. On this new app I cannot change, am I grasping at something that isnt there or is there something else that needs to be done?
help me pleas,e, my neighbors internet wont be there forever. , .
I've been rooted for some time and it may be coincidence but sense the last 4g outage last week my tethering has "limited access" wired or wireless. I'm using liquid 3.0.2 built in wired/wireless hotspot. wifi apps I've installed don't work either now??? Help

I noticed that the android wifi tether app states that it only works for 3G and 2G. I wonder if this is just a "canned" statement? Does anyone know, for sure, if it works for 4G tethering?
Yeah I did, neither the old or new one are getting more than limited access. Know idea what may have changed on the PC side? Nothing new or changed? Just the outrage on Verizons end last week. I'm baffled. I have tried a couple other Rome with the same results. Sucks pdanet is a third of the speed.
There's a bug with CM7 if your using it, I'm having the same problem. I have a none stock kernel with it but I can't using wifi-tether or the built in tether. Makes me want to switch to my sense ROM. :/

If you're running CM7 set your built in tethering to OPEN for security and run this version of wireless tether use the same name as the built in one and it'll work. I finally got it working a few minutes ago.
Thanks will give it a try when I get home.

It works on my 4g, I tested it with a speed test website and was getting 5mbs.

I dont know what I did but my hotspot can only hit .25 mbps now according to speedtest.net
I then watched the speed on the hotspot and it shows the same
Its been like this for a week now, does any one know the settings layout on the hotspot? Are theer any that could affect this?
I have rebooted my phone, switched airplane on and off. I then tested the speed on my phone and it is getting 4g, so the problem is with the hotspot.

You rock JRocker23! Always helpful - a Thx is in order. Of course the Market QR code returns "No Results Found"
Try changing the type of connection to Infastructure or Ad-Hoc. I don't remember which one it was, but one of these fixed a very similar issue for me.

Wifi Tethering Infrastructure Mode possible?

I've Googled a bit and unfortunately, am seeing that so far, the Rezound can only perform wifi tethering in ad-hoc mode, not infrastructure mode. Has there been any updates on if it can ever be possible? My device is rooted and the bootloader unlocked. Would flashing a certain rom or kernel make it possible?
Or would my only hope be to pay for the official hotspot feature by Verizon? Its a shame my Droid Charge was able to do this but not the Rezound. Oh, "fragmentation".
not 100% sure what rules are here concerning links to other sites so ill take the link down immediately if its not ok, but this thread on ppcgeeks looks promising:

When I do that no data seems to be transferring and my computer doesn't find the hotspot. I can't figure it out.
Edit: Ive been trying it on beta 11 on GB roms. Do I need to do it on ICS? I read in another thread that that may be the problem. Just thought I would get some more opinions.

I'm having the same problem. Worked fine with gingerbread. I switched to CleanRom 2.1 and now I can't tether my kindle.
Did you both install the latest tether beta 11 abd follow Pwned's directions above? I'm on Senseless 2.0 ICS and it works perfectly for me.

For a kindle you can download an app called zt-180 adhoc switcher. That will allow you to tether in adhoc mode. Just be sure you leave the network named AndroidTether

Hmm I'm puzzled then. You changed the profile to galaxy nexus? And enabled routing fix on Wi-Fi tether beta 11? And are on one of the ics roms?

just tried the new beta version that scrosler included in cleanrom 2.1 and it works. Changing the settings as above, my stock kindle fire sees it (no encryption). Speed tests were very good (15 down, 7-10up).

[Q] Wifi Tethering on De-Sensed-ish ICS 3.5

Got this Rom running last night and I see that it is based on Cleanrom 2.1 which mentions that Wifi Tether was added.
I'm not sure if its supposed to work or was stripped on De-Sensed but whenever I try to turn it on it just grays out and I can't do anything with it. This is the wifi tethering settings in the mobile networks options... I don't see a specific app anywhere. No place for routing or the galaxy nexus options listed in the Cleanrom thread either.
Is this normal or is something wrong?

You'd need to download the wifi-tether app from code.google.com and I believe the version used in CR2.1 is 3.1 beta11. I don't know if Scott did anything else to the app or not. But grab the app, use the settings...should work..??
Keep in mind, there are settings that work good.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE) profile and setup Netd seems to make WiFi tether app function great.

To the OP...Wireless Tether is not a system app. The built-in tethering does not work.

When you install it go to settings and change the device to Galaxy Nexus LTE and enable "Routing Fix".
I have heard setting up an a password for encryption will not allow this to work so using "access control" works for the time being to restrict who can access the network generated by your phone.
EDIT: THIS thread may be more help to you.

What's weird, is I can't get my xp machine to connect at all. All my other devices work just fine, but I can't figure out what's going on with my laptop and why it won't connect to wifi tether, as it connects just fine to other wireless networks.
I've tried everything too, but to no avail, any have any ideas?
