Flashing a recovery over a recovery. - HTC EVO 3D

So i have already flashed the CWM recovery onto my Evo 3d, But i have changed my mind and now i want to flash the TWRP recovery. Now i was wondering could i just flash over the CWM recovery with the TWRP recovery or would i have to remove the CWM recovery first? If so how do i remove it. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I had CWM first, and just flashed TWRP right over it. No issues at all

So it's not gonna brick my phone or anything when i flash right over?

Nope. It will just write the new recovery right over the old one. On my Evo 4G I never had to erase recovery before flashing a new one. I switched between CWM and Amon Ra a couple times. I believe if you did want to erase it though, it can be done in fastboot. 'fastboot erase recovery'. There should be no need for that though. I'm not sure if that command works for us, but it did with the Evo 4G

So like you guys said i flashed the recovery over CWM and it worked perfectly. I only have one more question though...Where is the backup option on TWRP?
EDIT: Nevermind i found it i didn't know what they ment by "Backup partions"

I am unable to do this? I get a 736 error no matter if I try it in MAGLDR113 or CWR recovery. same thing. This happened before and i don't remember how I got it to work.

Remove CWM and install TWRP ?

CWM installed fine when I rooted but since it seems most of the Dev's are preferring TWRP to CWM I was thinking about getting rid of the CWM and installing TWRP.
I looked around but didn't see just how to do this. Anybody got a link to instructions or know what I need to do?
OR.... Am I worrying about something stupid and shouldn't worry about it?

I would switch to TWRP. All you need to do is flash TWRP right over CWM. You don't need to erase CWM first. Just follow the instructions for installing TWRP, and you'll be good.

Not to my knowledge. Teamwin recommended installing it as a PG86IMG.zip for now, as that's the most reliable way to install it. You could also use fastboot to flash it if you'd want. Those are the only two ways I know to install it.
Actually, it looks like you can use Joeykrim's flash GUI app would do that...maybe research how to use it for that.

my opinion is Teamwins recovery wil become the standard , nothing against clockwork . Amon Ra was the king of recoveries in the EVO4G days or atleast in my mind it was . I flashed the Teamwin recovery using the PG86IMG.zip . Went very smoothly without a hitch . My only advice is when you flash to Teamwin make a backup of your stock set up then let the flashing addiction kick in .

Is the same true if I want to go back to CWM? Can I use ROM Manager to install CWM over TWRP?

Yes. There's a new touch recovery available. Search the play store for 4ext. Its a touch recovery.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
Latest Twrp works well. Only issues I seen in the latest was the time is off by 3 hours in the recovery and it doesn't seem to charge no red light.. But flashes everything right..
Hopefully this fixes a issue where the phone wasn't charging to green while off...
I've just started to use 4ext and so far I have no issues. TWRP works well also. I did get some restarts while in TWRP.
4eXT is going to become the standard you just don't know it yet...
(used Amon Ra, Clockwork Mod,TWRP and now 4eXT.)

Not sure what you mean, you cannot get into bootloader. 4G WIFI issues are probably due to a kernel issue. I would say download recovery and flash that zip in bootloader and start over.
OK didn't explain that too well b4.. OK twrm recovery It said to flash in bootloader doing the PC86IMG.zip I did that and it will not let me use clockwork recover so I can restore my back up
If you have hboot 1.5 you will have to follow the 2nd part of these instructions to flash anything with a kernel.

I had the same problem but doing it this way i haven't ran into that issue again. I hope it helps.
I have h boot 1.40
Sounds like your causing more problems trying to flash cwm recovery you gotta get into twrp and and the restore options, and restore the enitre systems. You don't need to go into any bootloader or anything just recovery...
Quickboot app is fastest way of gettin this done.. if you flash cwm over twrp then your nandroid can't be flashed thro cwm if it was made with twrp, I believe they are different formats, I use cwm my self, good luck

Ok, sounds like you switched from clockwork recovery to twrm. The backup files are different and not compatible between recoveries I think. You probably have to put clockwork back on to restore.
I don't know how I did it but I got everything back to how it was... Lol thanks 4 all the help xda

twrp 1.1.1 is the latest non-touch twrp recovery. if you want cwm, go to clockworkmod.com, go to rom manager, and look for evo 3d on the list of devices. 5.0.2.0 is the latest non-touch cwm recovery, and I would not recommend using cwm touch recovery.
you can also download rom manager from the play store and using the app to flash cwm recovery

Clockworkmod 5.0.2.0 also sucks. tried it and had to do a full RUU restore.
you can download 4.0.1.4 from Here
I use twrp touch with htc dev unlock hboot 1.5 and haven't had any problems with it at all. Clockwork sucks, couldn't get latest version to work with it. Running infected rom haven't had any problems. I'll prob switch batch to the non-touch next time I flash just cause I would rather have something more stable and I don't care about touch but seems fine to me.

Trying to revert to full stock

I am curious to see if anyone knows the possibility of simply booting into TWRP on a new T-Mobile V10 (fastboot boot twrp.img, NOT fastboot flash recovery twrp.img) and pulling the STOCK recovery. If anyone knows if it is possible and/or is willing to be a guinea pig to pull stock recovery I am sure it would be helpful to many in the community.

Yeah, I never flashed TWRP, just booted it to flash SU. So, as per your request, I booted it again and did a backup of only recovery. So this should be stock recovery, since I had never flashed TWRP, hopefully? I don't know how to turn it into an img file tho, but you could restore it in TWRP. Hope it helps.

Glad it helped you! I see people asking for the stock recovery, and there is a link to the img file but it might not be working. At least there's this tho
I have TWRP installed and the phone rooted. Half of my screen died (snow white). So I need to return it. Just so I am clear I can do a factory reset then fastboot boot twrp.img and flash this stock zip and the phone will be back to factory for return correct? Or is there something more to do?

No, the file I posted is only to get stock recovery back. I would suggest using this thread to return your Tmo V10 to complete stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3241170
Ok thank you. I figured there was more too it. I actually downloaded the file from that thread awhile back. Much appreciated.
