fakeroot / temproot - (root after boot) - Legend Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i know i am getting scolded by this for not searching the forum first, but a forum which is full with the phrase "root", it is hard to find the keyword you are looking for.
i remember using an app, which could give an user root access via the settings menu. the phone does not need to be rooted. i searched almost everywhere.. but i cant think of the actual name of tht app. i used fakeroot and temproot, either i am unlucky today or i actually cant remember the name of the app.
so if there is someone who knows such an app, would you pls like to share it with me pls?

Not only will you not get scolded for not searching first, but you posted a question in this forum which is even worse.

You cannot get root access without rooting... And we finally get a Q&A section something we wanted for so long... Use it!!!

You ment visionary app if you looked in the rooting legend hboot 1.01 you can find a link to visionary+ which enables a temp root allowing you to start the rooting process.

I'm just going to tell you to search... not even with the search button, because the thread you need is probably on the first page of development.
Never live in the past but always learn from it.

Can someone direct me...?

Cab someone direct me to the "one click root"? And maybe even to the downgrade if you can?
I have to root my replacement device but I have no internet. So I'm downloading everything to my phone then transferring the files to my friends laptop. So much work. Lol. I can't find these things on the XDA App.

There is no "xda endorsed" method to "one click root" because such methods for the thunderbolt are prone to screwing up your phone and leaving the person doing it in a world of headaches (since if they're using such a method, they have no idea how to undo it probably and even less of an idea of how to describe what they did to someone who could help them). The methods that are out there though are just a hacked together automated method of doing what the stickied topic in the development section does manually in steps.
You're better off not rooting if you don't want to try that or wait/pray that someone with time/patience will walk you through that method.

I said endorsed (it's listed in the stickied post for noobs in the development section, but it's not on its own like the manual method) and not prone to errors. Not sure what you didn't understand about it since I never said methods didn't exist and weren't posted. However, that does not mean you're going to see it stickied at the top of the development section and recommended using. Just because it works for you (the time you tried it) doesnt mean doing it isn't gambling with everything being configured correctly and something unexpected not happening outside the scope of what the automation script for rooting can do.

The way you wrote it sounded like you were implying that it wasn't on XDA anymore. I don't really care if it destroys my phone. If it does, ill get a new one or just fix it. I can't install SDK on my friends computer cause he doesn't want it on there. All I want is a link to the thread or download. I know all of the possible dangers in doing this. I have done this multiple times.

It's in the stickied posting for noobs in the developer's section like I already mentioned. I'm on a phone and really don't want to go find and link it since I am using my browser.

I'm on my phone. It's not on the stickies. If I was rooted, id screen cap. But I'm not. Lol. Thanks for the help, but hboot is telling me main version is older when I try to downgrade. Then it forces me to reboot. So no root for me.

even the "1 click" root method for the TBolt requires sdk and adb on the pc. It just automates the scripts for you...

[Q] galaxy s vibrant for tmobile how to install clockworkmod

how to install clockworkmod i was trying to do it through rom manager but it does said my phone it said nexus is there any other way of flashing the clockworkmod
Download a flashable .zip of the clockworkmod recovery, rename it update.zip, and it in the root of your SD card. Reboot into standard recovery, and select reinstall packages or something like that.
If all goes well, it should work.

You know if you look real hard at that Rootz link you will find striking similarities to the one STICKIED in the Q&A section. Oh wait, that is bc it is the same thing by the same guy. Come on fellas lets read a little, eh?

Now down to brass tax. Click on the link in my signature and open it up and put the update.zip on your internal. Boot into recovery blah blah blah see post above.
Thanks for the help "Mr know it all"

Come on dude. You've been around sine 2009 you know how to do this. There are multiple threads asking the same thing and a few with the apk attached all within the search function.
I don't know it all and I am always asking and posting questions, but I do know how to use the search.
If you have more questions just ask and if I know I will answer or at least point you in the right direction.
How do you think that I found the solution for my problem? I was trying to tell the OP that he wasn't alone and I post the direct link so he can use it...I mean...how hard it is to help other people without feeling like king of the world... Or giving attitude... Really?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
It isn't hard to help people. I do it all the time but the answer is stickied. I mean it is right there.
Sorry if I came off with attitude but it is all out there for the taking just have to look for it. Plus you were in the same situation at 6 tonight so you are telling me that in the past 5 hours you didn't search in XDA (not Google) or read the Noob Guide? That is what I am getting at. I'll give you that searching for "Clockwork" will probably pull up a phonebook sized result.
Glad you found what you were looking for and if you need anything else just ask. Again if I know, I'll answer or at least point you to the right place.
I'm out. Good luck
Btw I would take down the Rootz link before mods see it. Definitely against the rules to post a competitor site.

[Q] How to root?

Okay, so after waiting for God knows how long for Jellybean, I finally decided to root my phone.
But, alas, I have NO IDEA how to do this.
I've tried researching it, but everything I find makes no sense whatsoever.
Does anyone know where an easy, step by step on how to root is?

Follow one of these sets of steps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285894
Just remember folks that reading all the sticky threads (those are the threads that appear at the top of the threads) is something we're ALL expected to do. Even and especially if you're new here. Also searching using google with xda key words and using the site search function are a must. Not tying to be rude, but we were all new once. Let the new users be an example to other new users.
I figured it out.
Thanks guys!
And yeah, shoulda read the stickies ahead of time.

Not the normal question about rooting!

Hi XZU users.
First post here since I moved from the GT N7000 forums.
Just a quick question about achieving root on our devices..........and it isnt "how does I get root".
Maybe someone that is way more intelligent than me can help but............ Every other phone I have used or rooted has been via an exploit found or created by the wonderful people here on XDA. Usually all packed up nice in a trustworthy file, whether it be a handy one click app, a bin file to auto run some adb method or a small auto root windows program.
Why is the only available root at this time via this Chinese websites programme?
Please do not think Im asking for another root method. I understand the complexities involved around android development. Thats why I dont do it.
Just wondering.......

I totally get what you're saying. I was a huge skeptic, and i even talked to Chainfire to see what he though about vRoot (the rooting app in question). He hasn't looked at it, but he doesn't really trust chinese software, and i'm the same. But, i rooted it with vRoot, and i can't say that i've found anything unusual after rooting, and trust me; i've looked -like a mad man.
We have no idea how it works, but it works, so some people have spent a lot of time making this, so it would be kind of weird if it's malicious. If the app pulled info from the device, and didn't root, then it would be a catastrophy.
Im the same.....Just dont trust Chinese software.
Do you think if someone had the skills that the vroot app could be "reversed engineered" as such. Broken down to see what info it takes from our devices.....maybe even see what exploit its running to achieve root?

I did actually try that I found the right tools to decompress and decompile .EXE files, but that was totally chinese to me. I had no idea what i was looking for, or at. We'll need a dev of some sorts to check this one out. You can also install a "tracker" on your computer to see what the app does in real time when it roots your device. There are several free programs that can do this, but i have never used one, so i don't know how complicated it is.
