Help restore Notes, please - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

After upgrading to the latest ROM version, I lost all data. All my old htc notes are physically intact. I can find them on sdcard/.data/htcnotes. Each note is a separate folder and a combination of a html and png files. I can see that this very htcnotes folder stores folders with my older notes from the previous ROM as well as newer notes done in this latest ROM. But the HTC Notes app does not recognize the older notes. Is there a way to make it see them. I do not use the evernote online account. So the only ones that I have are on my sdcard. Thanks in advance.

you have evernote accounts? try to login at evernote.com, I hope you found it.

Fastest way is probably to revert to GB. Then create a Evernote account and let it sync. Then go back to HC and login. Notes will sync.

Why wouldn't Notes pick up on what's already in there? Is there a difference in the coding between GB and HC that would prevent them from syncing?

I don't know, never used it without a sync account

Im guessing it's because it uploads your notes to their server (linked to your account). TB seems to only backup the app and your account settings.. just a guess though.

Sorry to bump this a year down the line but I ran into the same problem. Found the solution, but it only helps if you save the database file from the system partition. I made a NANDroid backup, so I was able to extract it from there. This is really only useful if you have already changed roms and you have that backup. Of course root with root explorer is necessary to access the files.
In the /data/data/com.htc.provider.notes/databases folder are the files you'll need to recognize the files saved on the sdcard. Make a copy and paste in the new rom.
I figured, since they are numbered directories, they have to have a data file that stores a way to access them. Stupid, I know.
This probably doesn't help now but it's nice to have the information out there for anyone else that will run into this problem.

Thanks for the info. Is there any way to do this without the database file? Or to recreate the database file?

--(Tool)-- CustomSuperZipBuilder/Batch apk installer. Please post your requests.

Ok I'm building this out some more. I added to the bottom of this post with future changes and am asking for requests of what the community wants in a this. Please read entire op. It's not that long yet..... Yet. Lol. It will be I forgot to nab a couple for changelog. I will get on Ubuntu and format this for the site but I'm on tapatalk til that happens.
So..
How many times have you flashed a new ROM or an update and had to go through the hassle of reinstalling or restoring all your must have apps? I usually have about 60 to 80 apps that I was installing/restoring with titanium backup. It's a pain. You gotta sign into Google and go DL titanium backup or whatever app you use. Wait while it installs all your apps. That, I guess, is if you have TiBu pro, if not its one by one. A painstaking process to say the least.
Well I was sick of it so I did something about it. I made a flashable zip you can add your apps to and flash from recovery to bulk install as many apps as you like all at once.
Here is a simple but endlessly useful tool I whiped up. What this allows the user to do is take any amount of apk files that you want (granted you have enough room) and restore them in a painless onetime flash from recovery.
Simple to use. Just follow this quick guide to get started.
Step 1. Download the file at the bottom of this post. Save it to your SD card wherever you can remember where it is.
Step 2. Using root explorer extract the zip folder to wherever you want to, I recomend makeing a temp folder to work in.
Step 3. Using root explorer or astro file manager navigate to your data/app folder.
Step 4. Start a multiple selection and choose all apps that you would like from your data/app folder to be automatically flashed back to your device next time you need to do so.
Step 5 COPY don't MOVE your selections to the data/app folder of the bulk-installerV1 that you extracted earlier.
Step 5.5 At this time if you have other apks you want to use that are not in there already now is your chance to get them in there as well.
Step 6. Rezip with root explorer or astro. And if you so choose rename the zip to update.zip and place on the root of your sd card. Or leave the original name if you prefer.
That's all, now next time you flash a new ROM or wipe your data and want your base apps back all you need to do is flash it from recovery. Or if you renamed it to update.zip and put in sdcard root you can choose apply sdcard update.zip and it will do it thing.
I have tested this on my evo3d and it works great, I wrote it on my phone with root explorers file editor so I made sure to test it with both twrp and cwm5.

No it will not save data of any sort. Next version I will see about writing some more to the updater to be able to add data to. That's more reading. This is my first albiet simple script, and ill add to it for sure. However you can put TiBu in the update folder and when you boot up it'll be a few seconds extra to restore just data for certain apps instead of the whole app.
Update...
I'm working on building my "superzip". I will update the op when I get there.
But expected additions are..
Incorporate init.d path for custom scripts.
system/app option.
Cleanup after flash (cache and dalvik)
Path for themes, add what you want.
Two versions also, one with system tweaks from our awesome devs. I'm currently building it and asking permissions to bake in stuff from certain developers and various mods and tweaks from various developers on xda. I want to add the stuff. But further, I would ask everyone what tweaks they might want written in. Please throw stuff out and ill get to putting this together.
Till then.

nice bro ill have to give this a shot......
i was just thinking about this. this is really the only reason i'm not more flash happy. going through the hassle of restoring my apps has been the main reason i havent been trying out all the evo 3d roms lately. i will definitely give this a try. thank you.
Awesome!
Now if you could create something similar that would place all of my non-Sense Widgets back on my homescreens in their proper places I would be your friend forever

Awesome, thanks for this. Seems to be the simplest way of restoring apps. My girlfriend on the other hand does not appreciate it bc your feeding my flashing addiction lol
I think i will create two of them, one for Sense roms and the other for AOSP. =)
I use the same setup for both but all my apps are pretty much compatible with both sense and aosp. Remember no data goes just fresh apps on a fresh ROM. Simple and as custom as you make it.

I tend to use a lot more apks on aosp because of theme builder themes, go launcher and go sms themes, and certain apps to replace sense widgets.
It worked beautifully. Thanks. That temp file is still in the extracted section of root explorer. So in the future as I am adding more apps can I just put them in there and rezip? also I renamed the temp file to update and I had to flash it. Thats not a problem but it sounded like changing the name to update would give an easier way to install. How does that work? Either way I'll be using this from now on. It kind of reminds me of the sashimi days( I think that is what it was called) from windows mobile

The simplest way is just restoring the data partition from recovery. It restores both the apps and the associated data, so you don't lose anything.
btw, nice work, just not for me, too much work for such little return.

[Q] Seeking a single-click, multiple .apk installer, without "OK" confirmation breaks
Good afternoon,
Seeking the following:
An app which I can show my backed-up apks to all sitting on the SD card (after a new ROM flash for example), and to which I can then say, "Okay, install all these without asking me for any further confirmation." I don't want to sit here for the next two hours while I click OK for 150 apps to install (i.e. with Astro, Titanium Backup, or Easy Installer)
The only quasi solution to this I know of atm is Android Injector, which you operate from the PC, and transfer apks directly to your phone. I don't want that. I want to leave the PC out it completely, and find a solution from the phone side of things, utilizing the SD card, as stated.
All responses welcome and highly appreciated.
TL;DR - seeking an app that, with one click and one click only, will restore 100+ .apks without asking for confirmation between each one, which are stored on the SD card.
Thx.
To do this you need root I believe as there's no other way to bypass the install screen(as that would bypassing security and allowing a malicious app to install stuff freely)

Not that i know of. This has been the one I have always used myself and has worked without fail so never really looked.
Yeah, does a great job not just getting the apps back into place but with data as well, if desired. Great option. Takes about the same amount of time as with Android Injector (USB from PC) fwiw.
i have many apps apks on sd card location mnt/external_sd/myapps , and pro version of titanium backup. how do i get titanium to see all these apps so i can install them at once. or do i have to put them in the titanium backup folder. (they might not all fit, because titanium backup folder in on internal sd, not external)
This might help, requires ADB on a PC though. It's free. My suggestion is to use Titanium Backup Pro though, it really is a fantastic app. This is a good workaround though.

I've always used My Backup Pro, it gives you a list of all the apps in the back up so you can tick the ones you want or just select-all and it runs through them in o e operation. Does apk and data but needs root.

[Q] Pulling an App

Could anyone tell me how I can take an app from my old MT4G and put it on my Amaze?
Apparently the app is no longer available on the Market and I don't like any of the other options.
Thanks for any help.
Can you not back up your app using Titanium Backup, move your backup to your Amaze and use titanium to restore that one app? I'm new to Android but seems like an idea..
Or you can use root explorer, browse to your system/data partition and look for the app_name.apk file if you downloaded it or system/apps if the app came with the phone and look for the same file and copy that file to your memory card and install it on your new device normally or by placing it in the same folder you took it it out from on the old phone, though you'll need root privileges to do that on the new device.

Depending if you're backing up the app+data or just the app, if it's just the app you won't need root access, but app+data will require root.

It's just the app, which if anyone is wondering is "Craigslist Notification".
One of the best free CL apps out there.
And I would know because I downloaded 6 different ones on the Amaze and didn't like ANY of them.
The ones with pictures had no prices, the one with prices had no pictures.
The ones that had both, had no "save" feature...so on and so forth.
So I still have the app on my old MT4G and just wanted to pull it off there and install it on the Amaze.
For some reason the app is no longer on the Market.
Thanks for all the help guys. I'm about to attempt to move the app now.
Will report back.
or if you have adb setup you can use:
Code:
adb pull /system/app/[I][COLOR="Red"]nameofapp[/COLOR][/I].apk
\
then you will find it in your computers user directory

So I'm back from the beach and burnt to a crisp BUT I got the app on my Amaze now!!! WOOT!!!!
Used Root Browser Lite on the MT4G to copy the apk from /data/app to /sdcard.
Then moved that apk on to my desktop.
Plugged in the Amaze and dropped it on the phone then used Astro File Manager to browse to the apk and install it.
Everything is working fine now and I have a copy of the apk on my computer if anything should ever happen.
Thanks a lot for all the help guys. I really really appreciate.
I can't live without this app. I LOVE getting deals on Craigslist.
And Dark, am I allowed to post the apk up?
I have the free version, so it's not a paid app.

ics ugrade, restore, and general questions

hello everyone
i upgraded my evo 3d to ics last night. i did a full system backup using 4ext before the upgrade (incase i wanted to go back to gb) but i forgot to backup my contacts to a vcard and i added a lot of numbers since the last vcard backup which will be lost to me
my question is can i use my backup from gb rom to restore my contacts (and/or apps) to ics?
i installed 4ext on ics too and when i choose the backup there are options to restore boot, system, data and cache which one(s) should i choose?
i also have some general questions.
1: facebook imported pictures of my contacts are low res, i had this on gb and still have it on ics. how can i fix this?
2: why doesn't the delivery report notification on the notification bar disappear on its ownafter a while? (it does on my friend's sensation xe) it stays there until i clear, is this normal for evo3d?
3: when i install a new rom on my tablet my apps are synced through market when i sign in with my gmail account. why didn't my evo3d do that eventhough the option was selected on the gb rom?
thanks
Unfortunately it's not that easy to import data from incompatible ROMs. I think the best option would be to keep your contacts synced on Google instead of on your phone. But that doesn't help you right now.
Unless there is magic I don't know about, backup your ICS, restore the GB, backup the contacts, and restore the ICS again.

It was never really meant to work on GB. On ICS, it's fully working.

Unfortunately it's not that easy to import data from incompatible ROMs. I think the best option would be to keep your contacts synced on Google instead of on your phone. But that doesn't help you right now.
Unless there is magic I don't know about, backup your ICS, restore the GB, backup the contacts, and restore the ICS again.

yeah that's what i thought but i am looking for an easier solution (if there's one)
isn't there a way to extract contacts from the backup?
or what happens if i restore the data part of the backup for example, can it cause problems with ics rom?
If data file is zip, you could try to unzip it on your cpu

n00b Nandroid Question

Hello All,
I have a Rooted VZW GN2 running Scott's CleanROM with the Perseus kernel with TWRP as the recovery tool. I screwed up royally a few days ago and bricked my phone (dicking around with the Google Wallet mod, which failed I might add) but was able to fix it and get all my settings back the right way. Well given that it took nearly 3 days, I'd like to save a backup of everything how it is.
How do I accomplish this task? I read on xda that a lot of people use "nandroid" so I downloaded it, did the backup using the "online version" that lets you do a nandroid backup while the phone is running (not in Recovery mode) and it saved the copy to a "clockworkmod" folder. Now I know that clockwork recovery is an option besides TWRP, but since I have TWRP does it make this backup useless? Or can I do a full TWRP backup (everything selected) and will it serve the exact same purpose?
Thanks for the help everyone!!!

OK. First i would ALWAYS backup via recovery. So go in TWRP and back it up. However you could try to restore it and if it didn't work it would say MD5 mismatch.

1. Okay so are you saying that a full TWRP backup (all options selected) = nandroid backup?
2. Does this mean that restoring the back-up TWRP file would restore everything as it is now (down to the last detail) or what could I expect of a restore?

Yes. Every last detail would he saved. All save games and even draft messaging... The whole lot. I believe it is correct as they both output the same back up. However i prefer CWM
Good luck

Thank you! Well now I'm trying to save my files to my Dropbox but Dropbox doesn't let me upload the entire folder for the Backup. If I use RootExplorer and convert it to a zip, would that be okay? Will TWRP allow a zip for restoring or would I have to do an extraction first?

TWRP will make its own back up and save it in a selected folder. Are you talking about uploading the backup already made from TWRP

Also look at Orange back up. Just came in the portal. It puts Nandroids on the cloud. Talk about timing

I'd just like to be efficient with what memory I do have at the moment. I know that TWRP saves the file in its own folder, but it's actually a large collection of files. My plan was to zip them and upload the zip file to Dropbox and delete the "on-phone" copies. Then if worst came to worst, I would just download the zip back on there via my USB cable (I could extract if it necessary) and then I'd restore it. I just want to know if that would work and whether or not TWRP would be able to use a .ZIP file or if it would need all of the files individually.

No. It would need to be in the folder format... Have you looked at Orange Back Up?

Okay, I just did some light reading on Orange Back Up but I'm unsure how it works. Does it replace TWRP / Clockwork? Does it require one or the other for reflashing it's nandroid backup? I really like TWRP's setup and would be reluctant to change from it (although I would do it if the advantages stack up).

Hmmm. If you want it simple just zip the backup and dropbox it... Then unzip when you need it

I'm confused, isn't that what I've been saying the last several posts? What I plan on doing is zipping up my TWRP files, DropBoxing them, and if I need them I'll just hardload them onto my SD card (extracted into the folder or as a zip file depending on what TWRP needs) and then I'd restore that way.

Yes. I though the Orange back up would be easier. So just do it your way. It will work

Just make sure to not compress the zip. Not sure that TWRP will be able to restore a compressed backup (probably won't).

I understand you're concerned about saving as much memory as you can. This is something the rest of us face as well, but quit trying to cut corners and simply do a backup the way you're supposed to and move on with your life instead of trying to invent a shortcut. The tried and true methods used within these forums have worked for years the way they're supposed to.
Either use CWM or TWRP to make your backup. I always keep one active backup and delete older ones. It's easy and almost impossible to screw up.
After I soft bricked my device, I found myself making several types of backups after reading on the forums many different ways of backing up. It appears that my efforts are superfluous and that only one backup is necessary. For this reason, I was trying to figure out the best way to store the backup files. I was zipping the file not to save space as much as I was to have only one file to export to Dropbox, as Dropbox only allows files to be imported instead of entire backup folders.
