Froyo kernels are really weird.
All of the ones I've tried have done this: I press and hold home button and it just registers it as if I pressed it and let it go. I keep doing it until it finally registers me long pressing.
Is there a way to fix?
You sure it's the kernel's fault???

When I try to activate or update my phone's roaming using *228, I don't have a keyboard to press 1 or 2 on the latest MIUI 1.9.16. All I can do is turn on speakerphone or go back (which effectively ends the call). I've checked with calling other numbers and can bring the keyboard up, etc.
I'm running MIUI 1.9.16 with JT's latest kernel and I have the Extended Settings mod installed.
Any ideas?
When it prompts you, hold the menu button and the keyboard will pop up.
Thanks a bunch. That worked.

It still says activation not successful for me at the end bc theres no finish button.

I think I read somewhere that that occurs with all MTD based roms. Not sure why, but the activation/roaming actually does take affect even though it says it failed.
Ok that's good to know, thanks

My phone doesn't response until about 0.5 sec after I press the power button.
Is it normal for this lag to happen?

Is there a way to make my phone instant wake up after pressing the power button?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
This thread will help explain some of that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1370803
^^ That thread only applies if you are running entropy512's kernel or have your governor set to conservative.
But there is a slight delay that cannot be changed from waking the phone up. I believe it's 650ms. You'll have to check out entropy512's responses. He's covered it a few times.
If you're running straight stock, then .5 second delay is unusual.

Hey guys,
So I am having the same type of problem. The delay was happening on a completely stock phone (I just got it) after about a day of use. I just rooted it using the guide stickied to this forum (I am not sure if that kernel posted there is entropy's or not) and I got setCPU to overclock while the screen is off from 200 to 500 to see if that fixes it, but I didn't see any change. Any idea why?
Thanks
You all do know there is a lag because its waiting to see if you press the home button again to access that voice command stuff, right?

We are not talking about the home button lag, the problem is the power button lag to wake the phone up from sleep.
Time to resume from deep suspend is 650 msec, mostly due to waiting for the radio to wake up - so far there is no known method to change this.
It's the same for the I9100.

i'm running ics'd out v1 with siyahs kernel and I don't have this lag at all. you should try out this combo.
I just did a test and it takes an average of 1.35 seconds to wake from sleep.

Then your phone is never hitting deep sleep - let me guess, your idle drain is about 4-5%/hour?
I updated to ICS a few days ago and wanted to try the power office but it's a no go.... Anyone have any idea why? I've never been rooted....
I can log in... I can select the commands all over the screen.... I can't move the arrow or select any of the programs.... It doesn't matter where I touch it doesn't respond.... Am I missing something here?
Thanks in advance....

Is it possible to schedule a power up on an android that is completely powered off, like you can do with a pc in its bios?
Thanks

I once asked this about a computer and got the reply
"You mean a program that will reach out and press the power button for you? No."
I know it is possible in the bios of some computers. I had a very old cell phone which would power itself on if you had an alarm set. Though I have not seen that function in many years.

Lol you have to love it when you get a reply from a sarcastic person who is clueless.
I will try the alarm thing, and maybe an alarm app or 2

The device can not be completely powered off otherwise how would it kniw when to turn on? in computers this is done with the bois battery and then normaly a lan connection to get the message to start.
So the simple answer is no. You can on some decives put it into a deep sleep but it cant be turned back on if you want it completely off without some physical action

Hi,
I was used to use the Resurrection remix ROM or AOKP based ROM, and the screenshot of the phone was easily made by pressing the power button which open the "reboot, shutdown..." menu and there was a screenshot option.
But now I'm using the Omega ROM, based on the samsung official ROM, and I can't find how to make a screenshot.
Can someone tell me how ?

It's a bit funny, you have to press and hold them both at exactly the same time. If you press home or power first it'll just register thst keypress.

You're right.
That's the first time that I read someone who deigns to make that point.:good:
This is useful since usually the key combinations do not require such synchronization.

This was brought up multiple times already, and several people (including yours truly ) provided that particular info...
