Just wondering if it is possible to update the baseband/firmware to 2.3 if my carrier is AT&T but i am in Japan for the next few weeks. Would not finding a signal freeze the phone somehow or would it still work with everything else, wifi/games/apps etc.?
Thanks
Shouldn't matter.
You can use the phone without data -- just use WiFi.
Flashing is done through your computer, not over the air.

I recently moved from the U.S. to London with an unlocked Vibrant. Stuck a new SIM card in there and while calls, texts, and Wi-Fi come through fine, I'm unable to connect to any data network in the area.
I called Tesco Mobile customer service (and did some Googling) and discovered that London is in the midst of a data network outage and that the techs are looking into it, but I can't help wondering if my handset has anything to do with the failure to connect. Does 3G here perhaps work on a different antenna frequency that the Vibrant can't pick up, or something? I know that really shouldn't be the case, since SGSs everywhere have all the same innards, but still...
For what it's worth, I'm running with root, stock 2.1, RyanZA's lagfix and the JI2 GPS fix (which I've also yet to see working for me, incidentally... any ideas?).
Thanks much!
I just bought a used X10a today, Not my first android but my first rooted phone, (bought it rooted and unlocked. It is running 2.2.1) and there alot of issues and I just can't seem to find out what exactly I need to do so I can actually use this phone. First off it was originally a AT&T phone, I use Cincinnati Bell so the unlock is a must.
My first big issue is no matter what I am doing swiping through menus, screens, options you name it, it is laggy and jittery and half the time wont move just goes nuts for a few seconds.
The next issue is I can not for the life of me get 3g to work, edge works but no 3g. I used the exact apn settings as my other phone which is an unlocked tmobile and works fine but not on this one.
my last problem is I am missing tons of the factory installed apps, I do not mean the bloatware and irratating things that come on phones that arent needed, but things that I really need like a music app, the maps app, the email apps, all of that. All I have are the bare bones needed to run stuff, dialer, and messaging. That wouldnt be to big of a deal but nothing on the market will download it says download unsuccessful every time for any app, So i am not able to get all the things i am missing.
Also I do not know if it matters but I feel I need to mention it, The About Phone section on the phone says it is a x10i but the phone is actually an x10a so I do not know if that has anything to do with my problem but throwing it out there.
I really like this phone but I can't use it like this. What I need to do is either downgrade it to a rooted 2.1 so I have everything and it works or get a good 2.2 rom that will actually work. The problem is I have never rooted a phone so I do not know what steps to take let alone adjusting a phone that is already rooted.
So would it be possible for me to downgrade to a proven working 2.1 rom or is there a 2.2 rom for this phone that is proven to work and not cause all these issues I am having right now?
All help is greatly appreciated,
Cody
Cody,
CBW uses TMO's 3G infrastruacture (1700+2100 frequency bands). X10a is equipped with a radio that works on AT&T's 3G bands (850+1900) but not TMO's. X10a does not work on TMO's (therefore CBW's) 3G. It's a hardware issue. For 2G you won't have any problem. Therefore the fastest data speed you can get with X10a on CBW is EDGE. On the other hand, X10i should work on CBW 3G.
I would say that what it says on the "About Phone" section probably doesn't matter. I tried a tons of custom and stock ROMs available here with a variety of radio firmware but I haven't experienced any difficulty with AT&T. Then again you are trying to use X10a on TMO.

This should help you with some of your other problems. Rooting and flashing a ROM on X10 is very very easy, thanks to all the developers here who contributed.
With my phone already being rooted and flashed would I still do it just as if it was all stock?
My only other question is would a generic 2.1 rom still leave the phone unlocked for use with any sim?
Thanks, Cody
I'm not a tech but from what I understand and I did in the past, once SIM is unlocked, the phone will stay unlocked no matter what firmware you flash, including a generic 2.1 ROM.
Rooting and recovery are different. When you flash a stock SE 2.1 ROMs, you will lose root and recovery. That's where the flashtool comes in handy to get root and flash recovery again.
Hi,
since no one want to answer my question here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192804
I would like to approach this another way.
Is there any possible way to obtain 3g network from your provider? Rogers only works with 2.1.55 baseband as far as i know as i have flash the other baseband before and losing 3g network completely for example 2.1.62.
Is there a work around solution as i don't understand how these thing works and assuming Rogers will never update gingerbread consider, they are dictators of our phone.
I eagerly want to know as i am a huge 3g user and i am throwing out 3g usages under 2.3.3 as we speak.since 2.1 stock force close me every few min oppose to the current 2.3.3 which in favor of my broken/dying phone, i would like to stay on 2.3.3 as much as possible.
thanks
I have an unlocked unrooted S3 on Vodafone UK. This issue has been happening for the last few days whereby i have full 3G/H+ connection, but absolutely no data is working. No email, no websites loading, no whatsapp, nothing. The issue goes away as soon as I restart my phone, but then it comes back after a few hours.
Has anyone experienced this, and if so, how have you fixed it?
Go back to your network/phone provider .
Or flash different modem .
jje
I am having this issue too. I may be wrong, but i realise this happens if i turn off my Wifi, the 3G will not want to connect to the 3G network.. Anyone else having such problem?
By the way mine is International version (Location: Singapore)
I'm having a similar problem where I have a good 3G/H/H+ connection but data seems to drop intermittently across all applications - I get the same sort of error message in browsers/facebook/twitter that you receive when you have no signal.
Anyone have anything similar and know of any fix?
I am not having such issue so far. I been updating my SGS3 using over-the-air update. I guess the MODEM has been updated as well.
Go to market and download "fast dormancy"(by gorkhanmoral) then disable it and reboot.
Check if your speed has improved,if it got worse then enable it again.
U need ROOT to use this tool.
I it didn't help, then flash a different modem
This is good modem
Cwm flashable

have you got any battery saving app like juice defender installed in your phone?
Is mobile data working at all? or is it constantly "uploading" but never "downloading" (up arrow lights but not down).
If what I just described is your issue then this is a network issue relating to android in general.
Basically your phone will be connected to two radio towers and gets confused as to which one it should use, rebooting or flight mode may help force it onto one tower or you may have to speak to your carriers "high network technical team" or whatever they are called for you to get them to force it onto one tower.
I had this issue on the HTC hero (a long time ago now) and it took 9 months for Orange UK to work out what was going on.

Congrats. Orange Luxembourg (my gf's network provider) still hasn't got a clue.. But they seem rather clueless about everything except writing invoices.
Flashing an Asian modem on her S2 made the issue far less prominent since they seem not to get confused by antenna ping-pong. (Tango Luxembourg, my carrier, has this issue too in the main city)
I bought sprint Galaxy Note 3 unlocked from ebay India. Everyrhing work great in it but one problem and the biggest problem which can't be cured is UNSTABLE SIGNAL. Signal falls from full to no service and again gain network.
Did everything I can. Updated with latest stock rom, which automativally updates bootloader and modem.
Factory reset, cleaning and all, flashing new rom, changing to New Sim and trying every network Sim available.
There is nothing under the sun I didn't do.
I used this phone for a month without Sim and it worked normally without getting overheated. And I speak and chat on social sites like whatsap, Skype and it's works fine.
What is the real problem? Radio band compatability? Hardware? Antenna compatability?
I don't know what but this is the best phone I have ever used. If I can fix it, I would be the happiest one.
Please someone help.
