Hi! im really worried!
right after i flashed lightning rom 4.2 over 3.2 i started getting wierd shutdowns and i dont know what exactly the cause is and how i could get rid of it.
when it shutdowns it say SMPL in the middle of the screen and at the left top corner there is some red text with some numbers.
what can i do to get rid of this ? Is this maybe a warning that my sgs2 is becoming bricked or what??? Please help me and im new to this forum.
come on can someone please help me ??
I face the same problem. On the top left the message [RST_STAT=0x10000] in red letters appears the green android man and a bubble. When I reboot the battery loses about 20% of its load. It happened with cognition rom and with Villain rom, so I have the feeling it's a battery issue. I once shook the phone very hard and the message appeared. Maybe the battery isn't at its place?
I will restore the phone in its original settings and report back.
Any help would be appreciated.
Wipe phone restore to stock rom .

This is what I did. It's too early to tell but no problems so far.

I got the same error message today when I took the mobile off my pocket after a long ride in ma bike.. Not sure if its due to heat or due to shock.. I shutdown by pressing the power button and turned it back to see my battery is @ 1%. Checked battery usage by app and couldnt find anything obnoxious. This is the only thread which I could find in the whole freaking internet with no GURU's to reply to this error message state.. Can someone explain, it look more like a BSOD error of android to me with error code on top in red and Android Icon at the center written SMPL in red!!

Do you use stock rom? I returned to stock rom and kernel and the problem hasn't appeared for the last 3 days.

@xalastras.. I guess its too early to confirm if issue is related to custom ROM. I didnt get the error with custom ROM installed for more than 2 weeks.. and today it popped up again.. bloody thing happens only when the mobile is my pocket, cannot even find out what the issue is for the shutdown!
Switch the kernel to speedmod instead.
Ninphetamine is the one used by the rom and is in my own opinion not the best of kernels unless you are going to overclock the processor of a phone.
You will have to decide which is going to be the better kernel.
You should also consider resetting the phone settings because there might be overclocking and/or undervolting settings in the previous or present version of the rom you are using.

SMPL Error - POF Confirmed
Guys,
This issue nagged me for months and I used to think the issue is with Kernel or ROM specific I kept changing frequently. But the actual point of failure is the physical build of the battery and its bay itself. If your mobile bents slightly(Especially in tight Jeans Pocket) or shakes hard, the battery moves and loses contact with the point and once you take the mobile off your pocket you will this error with the android man confused
Fix: I placed a small piece of visiting card between the battery and the back cover to fill the small gap between them causing the battery to move. Issue fixed for forever and its 3 months now, I havent got this error untill now after numerous kernel and ROM changes. Hope this helps!
thanks for clarification

Hi guys,
I seem to have a problem with my X10i, it randomly turns off by it self, below are the times in which ive noticed this:
Phone is charging and i am texting at the same time or talking for like 5 mins and then turns off
phone charging and it gets too hot and it turns off
phone turns off when hot generally,
i play a racing game for 20 mins and it turns off.
When it turns off it tries to reboot, it boot it s then turns off again, i have to take the battery appart, wait for 10 mins plug it back in and turn it on.
This gets annoying as it shouldn't really do this and its not as if i put my phone on top of the radiator in order for it to get hot.
Please help
Ps. it did this on android 1.6 and 2.1 so that didnt fix it.
Regards
Well, this is definitely a hardware problem... you should return it to warranty or try and get it robbed to activate insurance if you have one... lol

Hey,
Thanks for the reply, i have also noticed that when the phone turns off it make a small clicking noise.
Thanks for the suggestions but im in greece and i have no insurance cover and the phone was given as a gift so i don't know what is up with the warranty.
Totally a Hardware problem... Just take it to the nearest SE Repair. It'll cost you though.. :\ They Charge really high if u dnt have wwarranty.
Any ideas on which hardware could be causing this? do you reckon it could be just the battery getting too hot? or something else?
You will still have warranty even if it's gifted (through imei )

Oh nice i hope that is the case, i 'm not sure if its been a year though, how long does the warranty cover?
One year. Warranty is for one year and two years on special contract basis if i'm not wrong.
If your phone keeps restarting, (Heating) another issue could be wrong (or high) OC settings (like setcpu to high values) or something. Which fw are you running atm?
Try reflashing to Stock and see if the same thing happens?
I had the similar issue , I flashed it to Wolfs 2.2 switched off the mobile, Removed battery and let it cool down. After sometime it fixed the issue by itself

Have nearly same problems. Looks like you have fuel gauge ic problems, max17040, to be exact. Or Qualcomm PM7540 power distribution ic, which is much worthier. Does your battery level changes sometimes after that glitches, and returns to normal after battery re-installation?

yes that does happened sometimes, the battery is on red and the phone crashes, but then when i take the battery out and plug it back in after 10 mins i get a white bar in the battery so in theory it has more battery than when it crashed.
Has anyone else had any problems similar to the below? I've had my phone for about 6 weeks and its been fine apart from the standard issues others are having, it''s not rooted and apart from maybe 10 apps installed is as it arrived.
Today I noticed it was exceptionally warm in my pocket (Top shirt pocket not trouser) to the point where I was getting worried, when I checked the screen it had used about 50% battery in less than 2 hours! So I checked what was rinsing the battery and it reported Android OS, the screen and phone idle all as top players.
I decided to reboot to see if that stopped it getting hot, still the same used another 25% battery in 30 minutes. Shut down took battery out rebooted still draining the battery and getting hot.
At this point the strange behavior started when the phone rebooted it said I had 5 missed calls and a text message. Checked missed calls non there, tried to read text message and it wasn't there but the notification was still at the top so I accessed the message from there and replied. Went back to message inbox still no message locked screen and still reports 5 missed calls that are not in the call log!!!!
Battery has now died and it's only been on a few hours!
The getting hot thing has worried me more than anything as the phone wasn't doing anything......anyone got any ideas please?
Restore factory settings or use the pc suite to repair the phone.

I also had a battery problem. It was the facebook application that caused the trouble. I deleted all the facebook's data, and today I have no more problem
Thank you for all your replies, I tried resetting the phone settings and that made no difference at all so I did a factory reset...........just spent the last few hours re-installing everything and setting everything up .
The battery performance has gone back to normal but I think the phone is definately running hotter than it was, I can actually feel it in my shirt pocket now whereas before I could just feel the weight of it.
Total newbie question I know but now the phone seems to be running normally again is there a way to back it up exactly as it is? I.e. keeping all my K9 mail settings, installed apps etc etc, it's taken hours to put it all back and I don't fancy doing it again.

i think this have been fixed by a Touchpad Calibration update by service centers since late last month.
anyone can confirm this? i am about to get a 'grey market' phone that have the exact same problem. if the calibration will have it fixed, then i'm going to get it for sure
yea u can even install astro file manager from android market which helps keeping your application ..
Not much activity here eh?
I just want to find out if the touch screen unresponsiveness, overheating, and crazy menu/back button behavior has been resolved by the touchpad calibration done by SE service centers? Is there a way we can resolve, or update the touchpad drivers ourselves?
Thanks in advance!

My brother bought a second hand SGS2 (I9100), and it has some weird glitch affecting the battery reading.
Even though the phone is fully charged, when the phone goes to standby mode (sleep), after a few minutes, or seconds, it suddenly "thinks" that the battery is not charged, so it turns itself off. When you turn it back on, is says we need to charge it, but after 15 to 30 seconds, it reads the battery properly, and goes back to the right battery %. If the phone doesn't go to standby, then the battery glitch doesn't affect, it doesn't say it is not charged, and it can be used with no problems for hours.
I've reset it to factory reset, but it hasn't solve the bug. We have tried also changing for another battery (I have one as well), but is not that, the battery is perfect (both of them). We changed the ROM a couple times, also changed the Kernel and root it, but the issue does not go away.
Can anybody tell me with the info provided if it is a hardware issue (hope not) or if it can be on the software? I've searched the forums but didn't find others with the same issue.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give us to figure it out.

While you're at there, resetting the fuel gauge chip a few times wont hurt either.

Dont wanna sound rude or anything, but s2 is still not a cheap phone (for most of people atleaset) , meaning,
when ur buying smartphone 2nd hand, the seller will have to agree on me turning on phone, playing with it for 20 mins, check everything and so on..
Display, RAM, everything, meet somewhere where is wireless so you can download android system tester off market etc etc
Because i am almost sure this is HW problem mate. I suggest you call him right away, and hope he still has the same number

Not rude at all! My brother review the phone, but didn't seem to have any issue at the beggining, started to fail like a week later.
We can return the phone at any time, is just that they don't have another one to give us right away, and most likely they'll take it for a review before we can get either a refund or another unit, so we wanted to explore all the options ourselves first.
I'm sure he'll be returning the phone soon as we pretty much ran out of options.

Thanks a lot Jokesy, you have been very helpful as I followed the thread and it is the exact same issue.
After a few days, the problem got even whorse as everytime is even harder to turn it on because it reads low battery. We can only turn it on, most of the time, through Recovery, as the key combination for Download Mode doesn't even respond. Sometimes doesn't respond at all. We just need to turn it on one more time to flash the stock ROM to return it.

hope u would know how to do this.
As far as I know the battery temperature sensor is inside the battery, if this is the same battery that was in the phone when it got wet then this sensor is probably damaged (or the battery is damaged and is actually overheating?).
Try another battery first off, I would not disable the temperature alarm - it's there for a reason.

You might be lucky,
I had that exact same problem with my sgs2 the error came up once every 2 minutes for the whole day.
I noticed that however, while running cm9 (10 wasn't out yet) it didn't show up, so I was forced into cm until the problem somehow fixed itself.
Try out cm10 and see if the error still shows up, if it does, go for cm9 then, I'm 70% sure that it won't show there.
Best of luck.

Hi there, and thanks for taking the time to view my thread.
Recently I've had a problem where my phone will get really hot around the camera area just from doing simple tasks like texting and then it will instantly shut off without warning. If I turn it back on, the battery indicator drops from 100% to around 5% and it will turn off again in about 10 seconds. I'm running the latest CM stable build and I've never had any issue with it before, this is just something that has started in the past couple of weeks.
I tried changing batteries as I thought that might be the issue, but when I place my other battery inside the phone to charge it the screen just keeps turning on and going to the grey battery and flicking off. Tried leaving it for a couple of hours like that but no luck. The battery that currently works feels like it's swollen slightly on one side (if that makes sense?) and so I don't really want to continue using it.
If I've been at all vague or you need any more information, tell me what and I'll try my best to get it
Thanks in advance,
Alex.
Your symptoms all point to a bad battery. If the battery swells then it is in a bad conditions. If you can spin thr battery on a flat table then it is not good.
A good battery has flat surface snd therefore u cannot spin it for more than half a round. But a swell battery in your case will spin for a few rounds.
Change a new battery to resolve your problem.
Best Regards

Do not use any battery that doesn't look normal or is damaged. Old or damaged battery's can even explode/burn sometimes. I have also been having this same issue but, I know my battery is fine because without a micro SD card the phone stays cool and the battery lasts forever but with a micro SD card the battery drops rapidly in charge just like you get from 100% to 5% in a short time period and also gets very hot around the camera area. So if you have a micro SD card in it take it out, at least it works for me:victory:. I've read that this is because the phone is constantly scanning the card (some glitch or bad connection) but i'm not sure. Tell me if this works and give me a "Thanks" if it does!
Can you try with a different kernel and see what happens?

Install Better Battery Stats and look at the process(es) that are not working properly and are overheating the phone, then try uninstalling and reinstalling the app if it's not a system app, or just flash your rom again to overwrite possibly corrupted system files.

no need of returning phone...i guess its one of many issues discussed over this forum..
1. It can happen because of a Kernel that u have installed that is not going with ur ROM.
2. It could be due to some app that is sucking up your battery and intun causing heating in ur processor..i mean some game..weather widget..Etc..
I would suggest that u can browse thru this forum for the solutions that fit u best..
i think its a kernel or App problem 4 sure..:fingers-crossed:
I am having S2 with ASNET MIUI V5 now and b4 tried several ROMS..When ever this heating stuff happened it was temporary only..
Hope it helps u in some way.
