After getting S off and root yesterday, and leaving it all over 24 hours, I was down to about 7 percent charge. Since me and the wife were heading out to breakfast, I decided to power off real quick to get more charge. When I powered the phone on, the battery was at 1 percent charge, so I powered down and plugged in to charge, but the phone would not and still does not charge while powered OFF. I've pulled the battery to see if a reboot would solve the issue. Nothing. I have not flashed another rom or tried a new kernal yet, any suggestions.

I installed CleamRom 4.3 yesterday and everything seemed to be working great minus when I put the phone on the charger and went to bed.
I woke up to a dead phone and I have no idea why. Anyways, I get in the car and charge my phone on my way to work and it gets to maybe 15%. I take it into work and plug it in USB and check the phone to see it is almost dying. I got a pop-up message about the phone is currently using to much current for the charger.
It went from 100% to 0% in less than 30 minutes while plugged into the wall.
So I pulled up the battery usage and this is what I see:

If anyone has any ideas how to fix this please let me know cause I have no idea what is causing this.

Did this problem start with this rom or did it have issues prior to it?

It just started with the rom. It has shut off before at night while charging though but the battery was not dead.
How it is even possible the battery went from 100% to 0 in like 15 minutes?
It's not reporting right or a bad battery. The phone would overhead before draining that much power.

Try charging it to full with the phone off, then boot into recovery and clear the battery stats.

I'll give that a shot once it gets done charging which is going to take forever at work.
Also make sure you are running amon ra recovery....cwm has issues if your phone battery dies....
Sent from my Rezound
Are you using the HTC charger, or something else? A lot of chargers will only put out half the current the HTC charger puts out, and the Rezound draws a lot. I have several chargers, and my phone runs at a discharge on more than one if the screen and/or radios are on. If I set the phone to stay awake when on power, on some chargers it would deplete the battery overnight.
All chargers have a 5v output specification. IIRC the HTC charger is 1000mah. A lot of devices that work on early USB specs will only output 500mah or less. Check your chargers.
My phone dropped to 7% battery. I let it charge for an hour with airplane mode on and it was at 4% battery. The orange light was on the whole time meaning it was charging. I then turned it off, took the battery out and it went to 13% battery. Soon it went back to 4%. I let it charge again for 2 hours this time and it hadn't moved at all and was still at 4%. I then swapped the stock battery for one from China. It started with 60% battery and after a half hour of charging it went to 54%. Why does my battery drain while it charges? I don't even use it when it's charging so I have no idea why it's draining. I'm running stock ics but it's rooted with 4ext. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Charge with AC not through an USB plugged to your computer. Your phone is using more battery than the USB port can provide. If you plug it in through the normal AC charger, it should be fine, as it gives out 1.0A, while USB ports typically give out anywhere between 200 to 500mA (at its absolute maximum).
I am using the ac. That message even appears when I use the ac.
Have you tried turning it of and charging?
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda app-developers app
I have tried that and it only turns on to what the battery was at before. As I typed this I went from 54% to 21% in about 10 minutes. This is really starting to piss me off. My phone cannot hold a charge. My motorola from 8 years ago could at least hold a charge. This is ridiculous. Thanks so far for the help.
Are you using the factory Amaze Cord to charge your phone?
My factory amaze cord stopped charging via ac. I had it plugged into the wall and it would say usb charging so I'm using a different kind of cord. I've never had a problem using my sisters blackberry cord plugged into the usb converter to ac.
Maybe....just maybe...your devices charging port is defected...
I have some charger from China that goes from the wall straight to my phone without using that charging port and it doesn't charge it either.
China should only be used for one thing...Chinese People
I tried another one of my batteries that had a 60% charge. Within 10 minutes the battery was dead. I have it charging and the orange led is flashing. I waited 20 minutes and tried turning it on. After several presses of the power button it finally turns on. As soon as it gets to the home screen the low battery sound beeps and it shuts down. Seriously what am I supposed to do? This is getting ridiculous.
Thanks.
Have you looked into doing a warranty exchange...

I have not. This has only happened 3 times or so since I got it a week or so after launch. I didn't suspect it to be a hardware problem. I think the person who suggested the bad power port was correct because my Chinese charger charged it full perfectly and it's been good. It just has to be held at a certain angle to charge. I'm going to go to Telus and try and get a new power port and see, maybe I could get an exchange. I have it rooted though, so would I have to unroot it get the exchange?
Thanks.
Step one, dim the phones lighting.
Then check to see if there's an app keeping the phone awake causing it to drain battery while charging,
If its not an app keeping it awake then you my friend are one of the unlucky owners of this picky phone...

From yesterday I have been seeing some major battery charging issues with my S3.
Battery drained in evening, came home and connected it to charger for 3 hours and saw battery was just 8%. I removed the battery and put it back and left it for whole night charging. Woke up and saw (after 8+ hours) 22% charged.
Now that's a serious issue. What else can be done now? Is my adapter not working? or that mini dock? or something else?
Samsung disappointed.
Try reboot. Could be a rogue app constantly pushing your CPU. If it does not charge faster, try shut the phone off at a percentage you know, charge a hour and boot it up. Should have charged at least 40% in that time.

When the battery drained. The phone was switched off. Charged for 3 hours and it was just 8%. And yes, I rebooted my phone twice. and removed the battery too.

Try wiping battery stats in cwm?
or
use a different cable/plug
There are quite a few faulty wall chargers around. Mine was totally dead others work only sometimes... Maybe try charging @pc or with a different adapter.
Due to the software update via Kies, Root access and CWM was lost. Will use a different adapter...
Now it's being charged via my laptop (very slow though) but adapter was not doing anything except just showing the red LED light. :/
I think I have to change the adapter.
It's the adapter which is not working. Charged from Galaxy S2's charger. Have to get it replaced from samsung service center.
Hi guys,
I've installed the latest official JB ROM and everything is fine.
However when i have the phone connected to the same power adapter and cable I normally use, the phone just doesn't charge.
Battery settings shows charging as AC, red LED is on etc.
But the percentage just hasn't moved from 51% in over an hour of charge.
Any ideas on this as it was fine on ICS LH1.
It is probably recharging, Just reboot the phone and look at the percentage again.
PS, this belongs in the Q&A
Sorry, can it be moved.
I just rebooted and it showed 50%.
A few minutes later and it's showing 49%

Don't worry about what it says on the screen. Power off the phone and plug it in so it charges quick. Unplug it when the LED is green.
OK, about to leave work so I'll try that at home.
But the % on the front was always accurate before.
Is this a bug with JB or something?
Installed wanam LIB last night. I woke up this morning after my phone has been on the charger all night and it was only showing 96%. Seems like the charging behavior, or at least the battery reporting, has been changed.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I turned it off for 10 minutes while charging and it went from 47% to 48%.
really hoping this will fix itself with a charge to 100% while off.

i'm sure i played with the charging speed while i had siyah kernel, i guess this might be the reason

Same Problem here!
Charged last night (8 hours - poweradapter) and it went from 68% to only 80 %.
... but if i charge it via PC (USB 2.0 Port) it charges normal and really quick.
I'm on DLIB (fresh install with full wipe/dalvik etc).
Don't worry about what it displays. After 1 bettery cycle it will show accurate information. If you're charging your phone and the percentage drops it means that it hasn't calibrated the battery charge information. Just use it as you would and after 1 or 2 days you will see an accurate display of battery percentage.
Did some searching but didn't find anything.
Quick background:
Got a new phone early December so my i777 sat idle for nearly a month. Battery (original OEM) completely drained during that time. Went to recharge last week and couldn't do so - charging animation just shows the battery at 0% for a 1/2 second, cuts to black screen/totally off for 2 seconds, then 0% animation for 1/2 second... etc. Just loops like that. Left overnight like that and battery got warm but didn't charge at all. Tried charging via 2 different USB cables from 2 different PCs, as well as wall-mounted charging from OEM i777 charger, N7, N4 and Kindle Fire chargers. Six charging methods, same result - no charge, couldn't boot.
Bought a cheapo replacement battery off Ebay, results when I put in in the phone and plugged it in the same. A 0% "charging loop". However after disconnecting the USB the phone booted up as apparently battery shipped with a 30%'ish charge. Once the phone was on it charged up to 100% just fine on USB. However if I power off the phone and try to charge, it's the same thing. Shows the 0% and endless loop. Confirmed it's not just a visual/animation issue by leaving it powered off in the charging loop for 2 hours - was at 92% when powered off and 92% when powered on 2 hours later.
ROM on phone at time was the Task650 12/2 build. Wiped EVERYTHING and flashed the most recent Hellybean ROM, same result. Flashed the most recent SuperNexus 2.0 and same result.
Any suggestions? Feels like I've ruled out charger issues by trying 6 types, micro USB port seems for file transfers and charging the (phone provided the phone is on), have both an OEM and cheap aftermarket battery acting identical, and ruled out ROM issues by trying three. Not sure where to go from here. As long as the battery doesn't get to zero charge the phone works fine, charging with the phone on. If it gets to zero % I presume I'd need a dedicated battery charger to bring it back to life. I want to sell the phone and that's sort of a lame situation to sell a phone so want to get it fixed (not going to scam anyone). I can get into download mode with battery removed, USB connected and key combo if that matters. Also pulled the microSD card which made no changes - figured worth a weird shot.
Thanks!
