Ok let find out what is wrong:
If you said this "I dont have cwm any more after -w" that mean that you actually have Tenfars old bootstrap CWM because moto-fastboot -w or fastboot -w -> DO NOT TOUCH the recovery partition at ALL.
So please answer the following so we can help you:
Do you have bootloader unlocked? how can you check if everytime you boot your phone it show up a tag "unlocked" on the left top corner if is YES ok you HAVE actually and unlocked bootloader. And it seem yes because you confirmed that you have Alien 2 ROM
So from my point of view: it seem you try to install the OC with an old tenfar CWM (bootstrap) and that make all the mess...
Just check and answer and I will try to help you

i was saying no more cwm because i could have just restored nandroid. yes i do have unlocked bl. i tryed to install oc kernel with fastboot commands

im guessing I need to find the stock kernel for 2.3.4 and flash it with fastboot then everything should be good again?

Look in faux123's kernel thread, he has the stock kernel posted

i found Atrix-GB-Kernel-591-moto.zip wich is the 2.3.4 stock kernel. but it is a zip file with boot.img in the kernel folder is there any way i can use fast boot to flash this?

Here is the stock radio img...
http://bandbinnovations.com/xda/gingerbread/radio.zip
put the img file in a folder and use fastboot to flash radio to your phone.
cd c:\fastboot
c:\fastboot> fastboot flash radio c:\radio.img (or whatever folder you have it in)

I thought it was faux's but it turned out to be hktw-kernel-ramdisk that worked for me but it didnt work lol
i have flashed numerous roms but this was the first time trying to flash a custom kernel. probablly wont be trying it anytime again soon. I am trying to say good night to my wife and kids and i cant i work on the road and im bored in the hotel so i figured id give it a try
but no i didnt do anything with a dhd.ko i tryed flashing CG59.img-ramdisk in fast boot first and could not get it to work. then i read a little more and found the hktw-kernel and it flashed but when it restarted thats when this all happened

I try not to flash as much as possible. I would flash over the latest CWM... http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=641508&d=1309404399
Then install a complete rom like Ninja. Also try resetting your APN's 1st and see if that works. Faux's kernel insalls through CWM which is nice and easy. I couldn't figure out edgan's oc install so I just went with Faux's. Ninja come OC'd to 1.2 but SetCPU only allows 1.1ghz so far.

that is the cwm i had. i think it was edgans that I was trying to do. so how can i start over with just fastboot to use? I can not side load right now because i do not have the files folder in my menu to boot into cwm

I cant see my apns either. settings is not working nothing. its like i have a phone with nothing on it. If someone could point me in the right direction to just start over and put Ninja on w/o the use of cwm some how that would be great im in a complete panic right now......

Can you get into fastboot recovery protocol?
If so, download CWM (from the link I posted above), and > fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery-en-goapk-0630-1029.img
Thank will put CWM back on your phone then you can download Ninja and install from sd.

thank you going to give it a try right now just got done d/ling ninja rom sf
yes i can get into fastboot thats the only thing i can do
sonofa***** it said finished in the cmd fastboot reboot and its still not in my menu... omg i do not know what im going to do

When you power up and hold the volume down button you see fastboot right? What happens if you press the vol down button a few times?

i got all the menu's in there

[Q] Problem flashing MIUI - hboot 1.5

So I was walking my girlfriend through rooting her new Evo3D, and we couldn't get the phone to get past the 'MI' logo, so I figured it was a kernel thing. After four kernels and two versions of MIUI I realized that it wasn't the issue, it was the hboot.
She didn't back up, she has only had it since last night. I now know what I need to do to flash the ROM, but how can I get her back to stock so I can get the app needed?
Any help?
She has HBOOT 1.5, right?
Go back to the folder where you did all the rooting. Get the stock MIUI kernel (boot.img from the flashable zip) and place it in that folder. Open up a cmd and navigate to that folder.
Boot her phone into fastboot mode. (Vol down + power while the phone is off. Hit power button to select fastboot once it goes into bootloader) Plug the phone into the computer via USB
Type 'fastboot flash boot boot.img' in the kernel. If it successfully flashes, you are done! MIUI should boot up now that it has the appropriate kernel. You will need to do this for any ROM you flash.
As long as you have a recovery, just flash whatever rom you want through fastboot and the kernel will stick.
Or just download a stock rooted rom and flash that the same way you just tried to flash MIUI. It will work since you still have the original kernel.

Well, ROM's cant be flashed through fastboot. The ROM is flashed through recovery. Then you go to fastboot and flash the kernel with my guide above. After that, everything should be working fine.

Hopefully this works! Shes at church right now but I will have her do this ASAP and I'll report back!
(Awesome response time BTW)
Roms are flashed through fastboot just by loading your recovery into fastboot.
I never flash roms and kernels separately. Just go into fastboot, load your recovery, and flash as you normally would.

I had something similar when flashing MIUI. if you boot the recovery.img from fastboot it should work. you may want to re download just in case of a bad download.

I'm having the same problem as epicchase. have attempted to flash miui many times. at first i tried to do it through my recovery. it didn't work. then i tried to use the fast boot method and flash it from the recovery that i opened from fast boot. i'm quite frustrated. it just wont boot miui, is it the kernel, i'm new to rooting in general but i think i know what i'm doing. i have spent who knows how many hours trying everything i can. i tried flashing the boot.img and the ROM separately. I have successively flashed android revolution hd, but that's no fun, its nearly the same as the stock ROM any suggestions would be appreciated. it boots but i guess it must be a boot loop but idk all i know is it freezes in the middle of the boot animation.
ps. i am rooted using the htc official method (unfortunately) and am s-on)

well it didn't work it did the same exact thing. I've been giving it about 10 mins to attempt to boot is that long enough? I'm new to non sense roms I've only ever used sense, is there something I'm forgetting to do that is different for non sense roms. *frustration* (and i thought i was beginning to understand this)
---------- Post added at 09:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:46 PM ----------
okay well i tried to flash cyanogenmod 7 still no dice. I must be an idiot, sorry for being a noob.
this is what im doing.
im placing the .zip on root of my sd card. then opening my cmd.
i then type " cd c:\android" (i saved the recovery image in a folder named android) it says
"c:\android" just as it should i then type "fastboot boot recovery.img"
it restarts my phone in recovery
i press install .zip from sd card then click wipe cache and dalvik cache it goes and does its work
i then select the superwipe.zip it says flash compete however it says error or something but i just kind of ignored it.
i then select my miui.zip that i got from www.miui.us
i then select install .zip files the first thing that comes up is "md5 check fail- ignoring" and the continues and flashes (i have no clue what that part means but i continue anyway)
i select reboot and it starts to boot my phone i get the white screen with green htc.
i then get the miui boot animation for anywhere from 2-5 seconds and then it freezes.
i sit and nearly just stare at it and the clock. i wait at least 5 mins but have waited up to 30 mins.
the boot animation never restarts i just freezes there making me think it is not a boot loop (however the definition of an actual bootloop is slightly vague to me.)
anyway thanks for reading and if you have any suggestions i will be very happy for now im just gonna run my android revolution hd rom.
If superwipe isn't working, fastboot to recovery, go to the wipe menu, not install a zip, wipe dalvik, cache, and factory reset. Don't do the factory reset in android, do it in recovery. I'm guessing you got a corrupt download of superwipe, I would redownload it and try it again if I were you.
Try using this one.

[Q] Help! MiUi cant revert!

Help im desperate. first time poster been lurking for a while...
I flashed miui to try it out i liked it fooled around a bit with it but now i want to flash a new rom. i cant do nothing with the phone. i can only recover back to my miui backup. My AOSP/Sense backups get stuck on boots same with new roms. Off the top of my mind, Hboot 1.50, Tiamant(sorry if i mispelled) kernel, and the rest i cannot remember. i will edit with more specifics later on but if someone can help please do.
try booting into recovery from fastboot.
for example, go to fastboot, and plug into a computer with working fastboot drivers. type:
fastboot boot /recovery.img
(where /recovery.img is the path to whatever recovery img you're using)
then restore yoru backup

You should have a sense kerenl to get sense roms work....
Follow the steps from the link below and you will be good to go.....you can skip step 2 if you have a working recovery but for step 3 you will need flash image GUI app.

wait you flashed a stock (sense) kernel onto a miui ROM? that's no good.
have you tried the fastboot method, it should work no matter what ROM you flash, the way dkdude said in the second post here?

oh no......i told to use sense kernel for sese rom to work.........i.e aosp kernel for aosp roms to work..............now you have only 1 way to get it work
1. boot into bootloader
2. select fastboot ( you should have necessary fastboot , adb files)
3. connect to pc(phone should say fastboot usb)
4. then flash a boot.img from the rom you want to flash using command " fastboot flash boot boot.img"
5. then type "fastboot boot recovery.img ( you recovery may have different name)"
6.Flash a superwipe tool.
7. then flash the rom from which you have flashed the boot.img in recovery.
8.Reboot the phone.
Hope this helps.........
And please from next time read the steps in link in post 3 carefully......
You should not choose stock kernel on MIUI or Cyanogenmod
Its for sense Rom Only. And Use only sense kernel on sense rom and aosp kernel on aosp rom.
Those steps are for flashing Roms without a PC.
the step 1 clearly says to choose a zip file of a ROM not a kernel zip.
If you dont want to use pc follow steps from step no 4 ( link given in post 3.......but as you have flashed a stock kernel...you shoul now flash a sense rom) and check whether it works otherwise folllow the above steps.
And the black screen with everything working is due to mismatched kernel/ROM

WiFi Error on my Amaze

So I had the 1.36 ROM. I installed Android Revolution ROM and I backed it up with CWM. I locked my bootloader and installed the new 1.43 ROM. I rooted it and installed the Android Revolution ROM. Flash the kernel for your rom from fastboot.
You might have to flash it twice, rebooting in between.

So you must flash the kernel TWICE so it works. Thanks for the help!

hi all. i'm new to flashing kernels to phones manually. i have usually always used roms which have the stable kernels built in.
I just installed the beastmod 2.2 version and it has a separate kernal. i'm facing the same issue as my wifi says error when i try to enable it. PLEASE HELP!!
I enabled android debugging and connected my phone (not fastboot mode, just regular). i navigated into my android sdk folder and platform tools. just to confirm that my device is being recognized i tried adb devices and my s/n comes up. then i tried doing fastboot flashall and it gives me "C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools" i don't know what to do now
please can you provide with step to step steps how to flash a kernal (boot.img). i have also tried downloading kernal manager but it doesn't show any kernals in there for me to download.
any help will be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance,

[Q] Unable to boot any ROM. CWM works (internal)

Hi everybody,
here is my problem: I can not boot any kind of ROM or recovery image. CWM is working properly (it is an internal CWM). I have this issue since I tried to install the CM9 with 3.0.x kernel. I am pretty sure that this situation is all my fault, I mean, I do not think the nook has any kind of damage.
How can I fix it?
PS: I can easily flash the ROMs and the recovery images, but when I reboot the device, it just reboots in CWM.
PPS: I don't know if this can be useful: at the end of the flashing process it says "sd-ext.img not found. skipping restore of sd-ext".
Thanks

- Yes, I've created a backup before loading the new ROM but not using CWM (I've used rom manager).
- Yes, I performed wipe cache and data after loading the ROM.
- When everything was working fine I was on CM7 Alpha Final (the all-in-one-mod version).
Check if there is a backup file in SD/clockworkmod/backup. If so, try restoring backup through CWM. I've had the same problem flashing cm9 3.01 with CWM 5.0. The easiest way back was to restor a backup of previous mod.
Good luck

If u have any zip file of cm7 rom extract it on ur PC there u will find a file "boot.img" , copy it to ur fastboot folder, then in command prompt type "fastboot boot boot.img", that's it the old 2.xx kernel will be flashed

- Do I have to plug in the SD card into the computer before using the terminal?
Sorry for my ignorance!

PS: I have a Mac. Do I always need the drivers?
Yes, drivers are compulsory
Where can I find the drivers?
Oops sorry, no need of drivers for Mac

By the way, the command is
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
In addition, before you go flashing new kernels, you might want to try and just re-flash CWM. Not sure if it would work, but it's just a thought. You could boot into a CM7 SD ROM, then use @Indirect's Recovery Flasher App to re-flash CWM to see if you just had a bad recovery install. At any rate, good luck.
Ok. But I can't make fastboot works! When I open the program (that is a terminal window) I'm not able to type anything.

In addition, before you go flashing new kernels, you might want to try and just re-flash CWM. Not sure if it would work, but it's just a thought. I would like to try it but I'm not able to boot anything except for the actual CWM. No backups, no ROMs.

Don't open the terminal in that folder, just open the normal terminal and type"fastboot", now u should able to see the list of fastboot commands

When I write "fastboot" nothing happens (it says "command not found").
I don't know if this could help: I just would like to make it run. I don't need any particular ROM. Even a "simple" unrooted stock could be good. I don't mind if I will loose all the data.

Installed Newts OnE and now stuck at white boot screen

Hello, I just got my Rezound today and the first thing I did was Unlocked the phone, Installed CWM and Rooted it Via [TOOL] [7-3-2012] HTC Rezound All-In-One Toolkit V2.1.
Everything was working fine. I could get into CWM recovery. I could still boot into the stock rom.
Next I downloaded NeWts-One-XxX-RLS-3.1.2-odex-signed.zip.
I wiped data/factory reset. wiped dalvik cache. installed the rom successfully..
When I reboot, I get stuck at the white HTC boot screen. I can still access CWM. I tried wiping and reinstalling. I tried downloading a different version of this rom. Nothing worked.
Should I try installing AmonRa? Can I just install right over CWM?
To clarify, I have not done anything other than what I have just said. I have not installed any custom kernels. Did not make a backup of the original rom (because it froze mid backup). I did not even use the phone at all before unlocking/rooting other than to make sure it booted.
Thanks in advance
Mike

I am S-ON. Which Kernel?
Thanks for the reply :good:
You need to extract the boot.img file from the rom zip then use fastboot on your PC to flash it.
If you're not sure how to set up fastboot, I believe the all in one toolkit contains the needed files, following the instructions in the thread to download, install and use it.

Be aware that if you are on Gingerbread firmware (you are!) and running ICS ROMS, you need to flash the "Oldfirmware" patch to mount the SD card correctly.
Since you are S-on...every time you flash a rom you will have to flash...
1. The rom
2. the kernel (boot.img) that goes with the rom. You'll either have to pull this out of the rom itself or most dev. provide it as a PH98img file to flash in bootloader.
3. If an ICS ROM...flash oldfirmware patch.
ALSO, you didn't mention it but there is a patch to RLS 3.2.1 that correct some minor bugs. Its on themikmik ! Have fun.
EEK....use AmonRA NOT CWM
