I am not able to restore backups using XRecovery.
I can backup things fine but when it comes time to restore I get this:
E:Cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(Device or resource busy)
E:Can't mount /sdcard
I don't get how it can back things up but not restore.
Thanks
firstly, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859571
that would fix your problems
It won't let me do that.
Says read only file system.
I tried adb remount
But I get operation failed: Operation not permitted
you're going to have to go back and use flashtool to put 2.1 then root, then install xrecovery, then use Wolfbreak's ROM install instructions 4-5 and 6
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
Got it working,
But I'm getting the same original problem still now that I want to flash Wolf's 2.3.
Do I have to flash back to 2.1 still?
I have this file:
Sony Ericsson X10a_2.1.1.A.0.6_Rogers.ftf
I got this from an XDA forum, cant remember which, and it says it's the base firmware for my Roger's phone.
Since XRecovery isn't working, do I just go into Flashtool, press Flash and choose the rogers file? then root, reinstall XRecovery, AND THEN try redoing this?
One thing to note, I DO have a spare blank SD Card and I backed up the contents of the current one. Is there anything I can try with it?
Ok something is definately wrong.
I don't think it's the SD Card. I switched in the spare card, completely formatted it.
Installed XRecovery via Flashtool. Ten rebooted and tried to install custom zip and put on the XRecovery 0.3 that goku16 mentioned, it's te exact same problem.
Does that mean my only real option is to Flash back to 2.1 COMPLETELY erasing everything on the phone?
/bump
Any other ideas?

I am trying to install the new Obsidian based on froyo 2.2 with the Samsung Vibrant. I rooted it using the one click root and downloaded ROM manager. When I try to back up my current ROM the phone reboots and says E: Can't open /cache/update.zip (bad) Installation aborted.
Because of this I cannot install the Obsidian ZIP file because the same error message pops up.
redownload rom and dont use rom manager, it will erase your internal sd card. Use clockwork recovery and then flash a fresh downloaded obsidian rom

I use ROM Manager like 50 times a day and my SD card never gets wiped.
is clockwork recovery within ROM manager? So i click on Reboot into recovery or Flash ClockworkMod Recovery? Thanks for the help also.
Wait, is this your first time flashing a ROM? Walk us through what you've done so far.
I'm guessing you had your USB plugged in, and didn't get a good flash of clockwork. Unplug your USB, go into clockwork, and flash the latest version of clockwork. Then reboot, go back into clockwork, try to backup and see what you get
Here is what I did:
1. One-click root
2. Download ROM Manager from market
3. Downloaded Obsidian and placed it on my SD card via USB
4. Opened ROM Manager and clicked Backup current ROM, which is where i got the error message that /cache/update.zip could not be read
5. Tried to install obsidian by clicking Install ROM from SD Card and choosing the obsidian that I put on my SD card and I get the error saying /cache/update.zip could not be read (bad) installation aborted.
FIRST WRONG SECTION
notw thats out of the way, In Rom manager click reboot into recovery, then if you have blue text on your screen click reinstall packages, thenmanually pick thee rom to flash from the other (green text) recovery
PS WRONG SECTION
Iuse think free office. Navigate to download folder. Click the zip. Hit Clockworkmod recovery. Ok. Ok. Now let it do its thing. Enjoy. Personally I don't like it.. im back to fusion... didn't like lack of black. and double tap features... big down sides for me... and twiz.. so I'm back to fusion1.2... and LOVE IT! Only one to beat it is Bionix themselves and I'm waiting very patiently!

Was your USB mounted to your computer when you clicked "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" in ROM Manager? That will cause the error you have.
If so, disconnect from the computer, reboot, launch ROM manager, flash clockworkmod, and then try to backup your current ROM again.

One in the same here brother. Read my posts before. I'll try to help you through here, but you are in the wrong section, and this post isn't long for this world. A couple tips for you:
1) Read up on these programs you are using. Thankfully you're dealing with a mostly unbrickable phone, but I don't think anyone here is looking forward to walking you through an Odin recovery. You can **** stuff up. Write that down on a piece of paper in front of you.
2) Read the forum guidelines. People will be a lot nicer if you post in the correct forum.
Ok, sorry for not posting in the appropriate forum. I think I got it and my mistake was not flashing clockwork because when I backup my current ROM I no longer get that error. Right now I am using Titanium Backup to backup my stuff and then I am going to try the Obsidian flash again.. but does the Titanium Backup save my text messages?

Good, good. A bad clockwork flash is the only thing I've ever seen cause that error message. At least you've given a good google reference for other people that mess that up.
I've never used Titanium backup for anything other than app backup, so I don't know about texts. I believe it can be done, but I don't know what to select. Maybe take a look in the market? I think there are some SMS backup apps there if that's all you're concerned about.
OP -
I had the exact same problem as you, and I tried everything. Surprisingly enough, what fixed it for me was how I copied the ROM zip file to the phone. When I mounted the phone to the computer and dragged and dropped, I got the error. I had tried copying the file at least 3 or 4 times this way, and I always got the error. The error went away when I decided to try an ADB push of the zip file to the Internal memory card. I still don't know why it fixed it for me, but it's worth a try.

Wrong section dude. But um when you said u only opened rom manager to press back up current rom?..if so you got that error cause the wrong update.zip is on the root of sd...go back to rom, manager and click flack cwm click allow when it asks for root,n then pick the vibrant one.
OP - Do not worry about backing up your current ROM. You are going to 2.2 and your ROM now is 2.1. IF you decide to go back to a 2.1 ROM flash an all new one (ie. Bionix Fusion or Final) that comes with a 2.1 Kernel. If you try to go to your backed up ROM though Rom manager without getting a new kernel you will soft brick your phone, and as you stated this is your first try, a soft brick can be a little scary. To be on the safe side delete your backup in your phone now so you won't forget and be tempted to go back to that old ROM without the proper kernel installed and ready to be flashed also in your phone. Just wanted throw that out there for ya!

Maybe it's a noob question, but after update to 2.2, how do I revert all the apps and games I have currently on Bionix 1.1. I can reinstall them, but what about save states? Any way to transfer that when update is done to Froyo, or we always need to start from scratch on every new update?
I recently installed [Cyanogen6.1.3]gingerbread[v01] with no hicups, thought I'd try his new rom/mod out. Did same process but got unable to open zip(bad)
did a restore back to my old 2.1 and tried to put [Cyanogen6.1.3]gingerbread[v01] back on but got the unable to open zip again, my Xrecovery will not open any zip files. I've even tried re installing xrecovery, busybox etc.

Tried from another laptop and still same problem...
Fixed - Format SD card and re install busy box/x recovery, re do fresh backup.
hi guys i flashed a 2.1 rom whit baseband .71 which caused an bootloop then got back to stock and after a week trying nonstop to get root and xrecovery i finally got everything working back i remember also that when i got into bootloop i got an error message when i tried to restore an old backup it was something similar to this : "e:cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or/dev/block/mmcblk0)
device or resource busy " and now i got the same error but i can 100% confirm i can use my sd card on my phone using gallery listening to music and yada yada so any clue?
You have new xrecovery? I had this same issue at one point and had to purchase root explorer to copy the new one manually into the correct folders.
I think i got the old one but i did purchase root explorer and my request to you is can you post the new xrecovery apk + where to install it ? And can you confirm getting the same error ? Because it used to work just fine

At this point I think the new flashtool has a button to install xrecovery so that may be easier. I can't remember which folders without looking it up and I am at work right now. New flashtool is on the first page of dev forum though.
Thanks mate updated xrecovery and all working good so far runnin miui

Help Xrecovery can not mount SD card
Hi guys I have a problem with xrecovery says we can not mount the SD card. When I tried to create Bacup also tells me error SD card is busy???
Hi, I've signed up for an account quite a while ago since I was on HTC Tattoo, but this is my first post because I've gotten really desperate here but I couldn't figure out what has been wrong.
I've done searching around xda-developers and tried Googling. I have an Xperia mini pro SK17i and here's my problem:
What I've done:
1. I've unlocked its bootloader.
2. Flashed Rage Kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398910).
3. Using CWM included after flashing Rage Kernel, I flashed Hybrom V6 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1373435).
4. Before this I partitioned my SanDisk Mobile Ultra 32GB Class 6 microSDHC for sd-ext (27.7GB of FAT32 and 4.06GB of ext2).
5. Installed Titanium Backup.
6. Yay, from Titanium Backup I could see that a2sd is enabled.
Then came the problem:
7. I POWERED OFF my device.
8. Pulled its battery out.
9. Put it back in.
10. Turned the phone back on. When it's at the homescreen, Titanium Backup is gone.
11. So, I installed Titanium Backup again. But this time, I can't see a2sd's remaining free space, means it's not enabled?
12. So, I went ahead and rebooted into recovery, reflashed the rom again, and it all goes back to step 1.
While I was doing those, I tried checking whether a2sd was enabled each time, and it seemed that it was random. Sometimes enabled, then after a reboot, it got disabled, then I reflashed again and so on.
I'm really frustrated now. Any help is really appreciated!!
Try installing Hybrom v7 now
And when ever you flash your rom everything which is inside your SD card and was associated with system files will be of no use as you have to reassign it to system after you flash your rom
To solve this, when you think you have fully working system and now you want to keep it as backup to avoid reconfiguration when you reflash your ROM then make a backup of current working ROM for this
Reboot in recovery mode of CWM
Go in backup and restore
Make a backup of your ROM and you are done !
(This backup can be found on SDCARD/clockworkmod folder)
When you want to reinastall the "Same ROM" then you can use that created backup to get back to the status where you made backup. So there is no need to reinstall software and no need to make settings again.
This backup creates MD5 check sum so it can't be used for any versions of ROM.Use it with same version of ROM.And you will get ex-sd back as you mod in before back up.
I hope you got what i said ... cause when ever you completely flash the ROM and start it freshly you will have to go to step 1 as you said and do all things again so backup is good way to avoid this frustration and problem
And because of that sd-ext will not work...
Thx for the advice.
But I still can't get a2sd to work.
I connected my device to my computer, then I via adb shell I typed
a2sd check
everything seems to be okay except that sd-ext is not mounted. :'(
What should I do to get it to work?
I managed to get a2sd working consistently.
What I did was to partition my sdcard and format it separately.
Whenever I did a wipe data/system/cache CWM would wipe and format the sd-ext partition too, because of this, upon flashing a new ROM, a2sd would not be enabled.
But now I have another problem, I would love to move dalvik-cache to sd-ext, I tried doing it with:
#a2sd cachesdreset
then it reboots my device, but it ended up in a bootloop.
What should I do next?
I found out another issue. Everytime I pulled the battery out, my Xperia mini pro would fail to mount sd-ext.
THEN I would have to first do:
# a2sd repair
then the device reboots, then:
# a2sd reinstall
then it would get a2sd back again. But this time, all of the settings for the apps on sd-ext are lost.
i don't know bro
sorry

Trying to do factory restore and don't know how to do above. Chose zip from sd card, chose cwmrestore zip file and then it finds and starts to install then it is aborted. I have no idea if I'm even supposed to be doing this but there it is.
I have tried so many things from simple (the simple failed reboots method to very complex methods that I tried to follow very closely) and read so many threads and watched so many you tube videos that I can't even tell you how many things I've tried. Nothing works at least the way I'm doing it. I need to get this back to stock and start over because it is really f'd up. I think it was due to a bad sd card I used from the beginning.

Not quite sure how. The recovery folder consisting of the etc folder and one file, recovery-from-boot.p, goes to the root and the rest of the zip goes to the recovery folder and renamed to factory.zip?
When I do that, it still brings up Cynaboot and I'm presented with the menu. Choosing zip from card and trying to update by choosing factory.zip still goes to the previous Installation aborted error.
---Update--
Wait, I'm mixing up restore methods, as I've tried a number of ways to restore to stock.
I'm in the process of trying to restore by copying to the root of the sd as you recommended.
Not sure what to do next
I decided to use the CM7 from the sd. I worked through this restore, however, I got the following message after it processed through restring .android_secure:
Error while restoring /sdcard/.android_secure!
I tried it again and keep getting the message:
Checking MD5 sums...
MD5 mismatch!
Not sure what to do next...any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I am EXTREMELY sad to report that the new "backup" image will not boot on my NT8.
I went through all the steps and CWM flashed the backup without any errors. It then returned to the main menu and I hit "Reboot System."
It just turns off (or goes into a sleep mode.) Nothing but a black screen. The Nook Power cable displays the yellow-red that seems to suggest that it is in a SOD.
I have tried every iteration of powering off for 30 secs and then trying, with/without the SDCard, with/without the Nook Power adapter, and nothing will turn it on.
However, as soon as I put either @meghd00t's NEW recovery SD or my CM7Alpha SD, they boot up without problems.
I CAN do ADB if there is a command that I need to issue to clear some register on the device? Anyone know what I should do?
