My phone is stuck on the recovery screen with no usb connectivity. I cannot connect to ODIN nor can I get back to the main screen. And before anyone asks YES I HAVE THE CORRECT DRIVERS INSTALLED. My problem is that my phone will no connect to USB AT ALL. I had rooted my phone with an old root method, well I downloaded SGS Kernel Flasher and tried to flash to a new kernel because the fascinate I had wouldnt connect to usb to flash to the new CWM. When I flashed the kernel my phone is now stuck in the recovery screen with no usb so i cannot connect to ODIN. The recovery screen is the stock one. So i was hoping someone here had a ZIP file that I could flash that could at least get me back into the stock rom. Any help in very very appreciated.
I would pull the battery, hold down the volume down button and plug the usb chord in and try to odin back to stock, but it sounds like your phone could have a faulty usb port too
Edit: Also, I'm pretty sure this is in the wrong section of the forum

Pull the battery..and do the usb cord and volume trick to get into download mode.. or have you tried that AFTER the whole stuck in recovery bit? Maybe I didn't read your post right.

Yes you are correct. My usb port doesnt work at all. I was hoping for the 2.2.2 update.zip file so i could flash it using stock recovery.
Let me get this correct you are in samsung's stock recovery looking for a OTA zip? And if so what one you looking for ED01, i assume
Im looking for the a zip file that will take me back to stock and will also work with stock recovery. I dont really care which one. I just need to get back to a working phone. And yes I am stuck in the recovery screen. When it trys to go through the normal boot process it just takes me straight back to recovery. I have tried doing the factory data reset and it takes me right back again to the recovery screen with no OS loaded on it.
This might help if you are trying to get ED01

Man no usb, no odin, no good
There has to be a way to do this without usb or odin........
I tried flashing the one you just gave me in the post and it gives me an error code 2
I assuming that the kernel you flashed was a voodoo kernel? That might be the issue too. If it converted Odin is the way out. I don't know why they don't just make phones boot from sd card like the Nook Color. Man that would be nice. Just a thought, did you try to place a cwm update zip on the root of your sd card and try using stock recovery to access cwm? Then flashing a rom. I have never tried that with fascinate but i know it worked with the droid eris I had.

you could have spent three seconds and read this thread. he can't odin because his usb port is busted
try putting this on the root of your sd card: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OLKZRCE9
it should take you to cwm after you hit "apply /sdcard/update.zip". from there you should be able to flash a stock or custom touchwiz-based rom (i.e. CommRom 2.1), and from there, who knows?
following instructions is a vital part of making sure things pan out like they should. My first observation is that you cant do that...WRONG SECTION brah
This does not belong in dev section.
FWIW, I had issues with my usb port as well. Ultimately the port failed completely and I had to have it replaced. If you google "samsung fascinate usb port replacement" you will find two companies that do this work for $40 or $50 bucks respectively.
My port started getting wonky several months after I got the phone. Cleaning the contacts with a piece of card stock dampened with isopropyl alcohol helped for a while. Then it went completely dead usb wise and only charging would work. Looking into the port, I could see that two of the contacts were separated from the tab and pushed to the back of the port recess. I suspect that non-oem cables I used started the ball rolling.
Verizon would not cover it under the warranty because it was "physical damage".
I tried unsuccessfully to find a way to restore back to stock without Odin, afaik there ain't one. I recommend replacement of the port if you suspect physical damage and then use only oem cables.

I partitioned my SD card using ROM Manager, turned the phone off and got a black screen with lit keys. So, I read around and was told to use ODIN to reflash the stock TMO build, so I did. Now, Im getting the TMO logo and Galaxy S screen, but I get a black screen still.
I cannot get into download mode. I vol - and power and I get the Vibrant logo, then it goes back off. Even when plugged it, I get the batt charging animation, then back to the Vibrant screen.
I tried to push the update.zip to the SD card through ADB, but I get a permission denied message, meaning the root was killed.
So, is this phone pretty much screwed? I cant think of any other way to get it going outside of moving the update.zip to the sd card by a 3rd party measure i.e card reader/another phone
dude that's not even close to a brick as the phone is still responsive somehow..
do this:
1. pull out battery wait 5-10secs
2. connect USB to computer and phone
3. hold down the vol +/- buttons
4. plug in battery
5. you should be in download mode now
6. do what you gotta do with ODIN
good luck
Dont use that method to get to DL mode . Do it this way . First turn off your phone , then plug the usb cable into your computer ONLY . Next hold both volume buttons and plug the micro usb into your phone . Also use odin v1.3 and flash the rom of your preference .
Edit : xtone beat me to the punch

Yes using ROM Manager to repartition your phone will create the "soft-brick" you are experiencing. But as one person has already noted, this can pretty much be recovered using ODIN.
Definitely follow the advice given in Posts 2 and 3 of this thread to get into Download mode. If you're not getting the desired results using ODIN, what settings are you using? For example, what are the names of the .pit and .tar files you are using? Did you check or leave unchecked the "re-partition" option?
Sorry for the noobery. Im usually good at this.
Well, I was able to get into download mode and get ODIN to run, but im getting a MBD checksum error when I boot into recovery.
And I cannot install CWM through the market because my Application Storage is at 0.00B for some reason.

What ROM did you flash. You might want to perform a factory reset and then flash the stock JFD ROM and see if that fixes your problem.
Good luck.

I would ODIN to Eugenes Froyo that doesn't brick and see where that gets you. Thread is in developers section and I am pretty sure that's what got me back working but follow ALL the instructions. With no application room I couldn't push, unistall, install ect...

I had this problem for the last two days, but I found a way to fix it thanks to a user (whom I don't know the name of)
I did this to go back to stock firmware (JFD), make sure you have that downloaded.
Look for Eugene's Galaxy S Froyo PDA, for the i9000, not the Vibrant. Flash it through Odin with the 512 pit file. It's not going to boot up but take you to recovery mode instead, and it's going to remap your Volume buttons, but you can still get into DL mode (up is now down, and vice versa but whatever)
Now Odin back to stock, using the same 512 pit and there you go! Should boot up with no problem. Now you can redo everything, but remember to never partition through ROM Manager ever again!

His exact symptoms happened to me when the noob in me decided to repartition in Rom Manager awhile back. I am just suggesting he uses this tool as an option. It's definitely a good tool to use regardless of how he got where he got.

OK, I got it fixed. Heres how.
I was finally able to get into ODIN and flash Eugenes Froyo.
So, from there, I was getting an MD5 checksum error when Id try to get into recovery, and I couldnt install the ROM Manager from the Market
Well, upon inspection of a the Nero V3 build I had downloaded, there was a ROMManager.apk there. So I pushed it onto my phone, reflashed to CWR (had to do it about 3 times) and reinstalled Nero V3.
After installing the build, I was able to re-enable voodoo and its theres no more MD5 craziness when I access the Recovery

Apparently. Completely forgot I attempted to enable it. I was freaked all the way out trying to repair the damn thing.
Rooted with superoneclick
installed cwm from rom manager on the market
installed Stock+Voodoo kernel through odin
tried to install eb01 rom through odin, it failed
got into download mode again
tried installing DI01package3.tar through odin it failed at around 60%
download mode/recovery mode won't start anymore.
instead when I connect the phone I get some weird loading thing that's not moving
and now my PC won't recognize it
Picture of the loading thing?
Also, did you flash the voodoo for another phone?
EDIT: Try taking the battery out and holding the down button while plugging it in, if that doesn't work, you probably flashed something for another phone and you'll need to either use a jig or get a warranty replacement.
EDIT2: Also try this:
Turn the phone into the download mode by pressing and holding Volume Down + Home + Power.
or this: take out the battery, hold both Volume Up + Volume Down and plug it into usb.

hey I dont know what thread I read this on but there was a way to force your phone into download mode, I think the thread is call fun resistors or something.
basicaly the phone is set to do things depending on what is plug to by the usb cable, for instance if you have a car dock it pulls the car app and same for homedock pulls the clock app. well there is a set resistance that will make the phone go into download mode. download mode might be intact but the buttons might no so when you press them it does not detect, but with the resistors it might.
let me know how it goes.

Here's the link. Funny I had just been reading about this for a friend's Vibrant that went and killed itself.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551
Keep in mind that that is in the i9000 forum, so I don't know if each phone uses different resistances to send the phone into download mode or not. Also, I would highly recommend using the suggested USB-micro breakout board, which is available here:
http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10031
It will make life SO much easier.
Do some more googling about your phone, and about forcing it into download mode before you just go soldering in 301k resistors onto a usb board.
Good luck.
Your phone basically IS the Vibrant, follow the steps for the Vibrant to fix it, but use the Telus Fascinate Odin files.
I hope you can find a full odin package cause the DI01 package flashed the bootloaders, modem, and everything else on your phone. Most likely, you have a true brick and you aren't going to be able to fix it.

If you can't find one, use one for the Vibrant, it won't hurt seeing as you already flashed the files for the VZW Fascinate.
If he has anything appearing on the screen at all, it's not a true brick. There's a Telus fix-all Odin. He needs to jig himself into download (see this thread for the simplest method) and apply that (step 1 in this post).
Do *NOT* use any Vibrant Odin stuff. The SBL for that can actually kill the Telus deader than dead.

Reinstall your USB drivers, and see if your cable is seated properly. If you can get into Download mode, most cables used will allow Odin to recognize. You may have to Odin back to a different ROM like Neo said.
Make sure you have the latest version of Odin

So can you get into download mode and use ODIN to flash or not?
Are you still stuck at bootloader? Please be as descriptive as you can.
And no, I never heard of "cannot unmount USB storage" CWM... I've heard of mounting issues, but not unmounting...
IMHO, I think your best option here is to get ODIN working, then flash to a stock ROM with stock Kernel with PIT (Repartition) then flash CWM 2.5.
I dont see why you would need to unmount? what you can do is remove the battery cover remove the sd card. with the battery still out plug the phone into your usb and hold the volume down button. does it go into download mode then?
Then can Odin see your phone?
Also worst case try a different PC all together.
Are you on VZW or Telus?
I can get into download mode and use ODIN yes.
I am no longer stuck at the bootloader and can boot into stock froyo with ODIN.
I use ODIN to flash stock ROM and kernel, and everytime I flash back CWM 2.5. It won't let me install any ROMs. It gives me a status 7 error and aborts.
CWM just won't work
In case you didn't know, CWM can mount USB just like android so I don't have to boot into the OS to place a file. under mounts>mount USB storage>Unmount/Mount
Everytime I press unmount, the screen blinks and takes me back to the previous screen.

First let me put it out there that I have been rooting and installing roms for multiple phones with no issue ever.
I tried to install *TheCollective*AoCP - CP4.4 for i717 on my note and it hard bricked the first one I don't know why but it did. No biggie so I went through warranty and got a new one today. Heres my process (Assume I have samsung usb drivers already installed and battery is 100%)
Enable USB debugging
Used Odin3 v1.83
Used cwm-touch-i717-120414.tar.md5
Downloaded *TheCollective*AoCP - CP4.4 for i717
Downloaded gapps-jb-20120726-signed
Added both to SD card
Boot into Recovery
NANDroid backup
Wipe data/Factory reset
Wipe Dalvik cache
Format /system
Install ZIP From SD Card (RoM first then gapps)
Reboot.....wont turn on at all black screen nothing from phone
What am I doing wrong?
Someone please tell me.
Dont format /system. It's not necessary. I do everything you did. Except I Use TWRP... I dont see anything wrong with your process
See and on the first phone I didnt format the system and it bricked so I thought it was because I didnt format the system thats why I did it on my note
Edit: Being a broke college student I can't afford this mistake again. If anyone can help me (specific to this rom) that I'm doing wrong or what may be wrong with my phone that would be awesome.
I did everything right I looked through the rom thread well into 100 pages and nobody has had any issues.
I've never hard bricked any other phone before and I had my original note on another rom as well.
It was only until I used that rom did it hard brick or as far as I know it hard bricked.
Can anybody respond to give me a hint as to what happened?
Post a picture of your note. I want to "see" this device.

Fact of the matter is;
The packaged rom you refer to dose not contain bootloaders. So its really quiet unlikely its hard bricked unless you flash it to a device its not ment for.
The recovery in question is the one I use as well so that also should not cause an issue.
Have you tried a jig? To get back into download mode?
I really want to see this device you own I have a feeling you may be flashing the wrong device files.

Fact of the matter is;
The packaged rom you refer to dose not contain bootloaders. So its really quiet unlikely its hard bricked unless you flash it to a device its not ment for.

Sorry for bad writing...its late
I know that the device is not booting at all. no vibrate, no sound just a black screen.
I've heard amazing things about the rom hence why I wanna try it. I don't mean any disrespect to any of the rom developers.
I thank you for even responding! I'm pretty sure it's on my end I just wanna find out what.

i dont know if this is the one that will work for you but its what you need, if you are hard bricked.. did you try pulling batteries and getting into download mode by holding volume down and power and plugging in usb (all without the battery in device) ?
dont know if it will work but give it a shot.

This statement made me think of something else:
1: What cable did you use?
2: Were both phones bricked while flashing from the same PC?
I ask that, because if your phone is unplugged part way through a bootloader being installed... But you don't have to unplug it, it could be a faulty USB cable or bad PC drivers :/
Ive rooted and romd a ton of devices myself never ever bricked one until I came across this one... i own a jig and no recovery no boot whatsoever my only conclusion as to why this happened to me.. is a while back people were reporting a few certain phones had a "brick bug" there's an actual app to run and check to give you some peace of mind.

Used the cable that came with both phones, the old cable for the old phone and the new cable for the new phone
both phones used the same pc.(never had any issue before) Both phones were 100% battery and unplugged while installing the roms though\
Only until after installing the roms did the phone not come back on. (meaning after installing CWM I restarted the phone and it started up fine issue only happened after I installed the rom)
Brick bugs?
So squeezed my way into a replacement.
Scared to try another rom but I think that I will try another one and see if it works. My phone will be here tuesday.
Should I use another computer to do load CWM? Throw some advice as I'm pretty sure this is the last time I can get another phone for a while
Hi... I hard bricked my at&t sgh-i717 in the same way... same rom... same format system... and the phone would not start up, not recovery mode or download mode. I built a jig, that work correctly with the samsung S2, but on the Note no effect :crying:

I bricked a phone and soft bricked a phone and brought it back to normal just recently - The problem that i have is that i actually provide a flashing service to my customers and the guy i had dealt with used samsung kies and downloaded ICS which brings many issues to the table when flashing the easy way. Rather than mess around i decided to go about things the easy way below;
--Enter ODIN mode on i717, Download & Flash the STock Gingerbread 2.3.3 AT&T Rom (which is linked in Da_g's Thread) using ODIN on ur PC i(500MB zip)
--install the DA_G OC root kernel
--then install TWRP.zip via Odin or flash CWM
--then Download and flash Jellbean ROM of your choice / GAPPs. (after you wipe cache x3 and dalvik x3
Make sure you have all the samsung galaxy note drivers installed on your computer... if you are unsure REINSTALL them. Trust me

Hi... my note would not power on... so no recovery/download mode... When i plug it to my pc, it's recognized like "qualcom device" or something similar... kies is up to date and the drivers are ok... but Odin is useless :crying:
First rule.
Flash packages built for your device.
Second rule.
Follow install instruction.

Hi,
First I would like to say thanks for all the hard and awesome work.
I'm a noob/longime lurker, and don't have enough posts to be able to post on the thread itself, hence the PM.
I just wanted to share a suggestion if you can change your naming convention of your download files on the mirror site (or in general).
I had trouble downloading from the main link which kept timing out on me. So I used the dev-host mirror link, which has 4 links, but ended up downloading the wrong ROM. I should've gotten the i747 one (for AT&T) but instead got the i727 one, as I mistakenly thought these were just all different mirror links to the same file.
Long story short, this ended up bricking my phone, which is now getting exchanged at AT&T.
I know this is completely due to my noobness, and lesson learned,
but my suggestion is if you can change the naming convention of the files, (especially on the download mirror) or somehow make the difference in the files more obvious than just the 1 character digit difference located in the middle of the file name.
This may help other soul avoid making the same mistake I did.

The USB port for my S4 recently stopped working. I called verizon for a replacement. Unfortunately, I am unable to unroot my S4 because it will not connect to ODIN. I could not find a mobile ODIN app compatible with the sch-i545. Does anybody have any suggestions how I could unroot my device. All and any help is greatly appreciated!!!!
I have TWRP and am running the Jelly "Beans" ROM

What ROM? That will work if you still have access to a reset method inside the UI. If you have a ROM on there you must be running MDK, can't you just wipe the data off the phone with CWM or TWRP? The Root binary should be un-installed when you boot back up. Just delete the SuperSu app and you should be home free.

Please correct me if im wrong or misunderstanding what you are saying but i dont believe that would work. If I boot into TWRP and clear all the data I don't believe there will be anything for the phone to boot into. There wont be a rom for it to boot into and it would still have a custom recovery instead of the stock one.

After the data wipe you could reinstall the original ROM couldn't you? Long as you have the file on your microsd card. That would probably just reflash your ROM though, it may not erase the binaries. Damn. Well I'm sure there is a way to do it like this. It's just been a while since I've messed around with the TWRP recovery mode.
Do you have cwm on the phone. . If you do your sol. You can't wipe that without an odin to my knowledge. . But if your just rooted.. triangle away. .undo root. Remove su factory reset. . Should be clear. .

Hey so I'm in a similar boat - I have a Verizon S4 with the ME7 firmware that the usb port will no longer connect and won't charge unless the phone is off (and only when it's plugged in to a computer, not a wall). It was rooted so I followed the instructions above to unroot it.
But here's where I think I'm in trouble - I had loaded the TWRP bootloader before I found out it wouldn't work with the ME7 firmware, and never bothered flashing the phone back (stupid, I know). Is there no way to flash back to stock rom via the SD card? Right now when I go into recovery mode, it just goes to the "Downloading" screen. Does anybody know a way I can get TWRP off?
Sorry hope I'm not thread-jacking but this is the most relevant thread I've found to ask this in.
Sure it's not the cable.. if your in a position where you need to stock odin me7 you need usb.. Make sure it's not the cable although it could be phone usb is screwed due to your phone error.. you have insurance??

The only way I know to solve your problem is to reflash ME7 using ODIN. If you have the ME7 firmware already you can't use the TWRP or CWM recovery partitions at all. With out those operating your stuck using ODIN and your USB port. Have you tried another cable?

Yeah I've tried a couple different cables, a couple different pc's, a couple different chargers. It will only charge when it's off, connected to a pc. When turning it on "usb cable connected" flashes up top, even though it's not. When it is connected and turned on and below 15%, it tells you to connect to a power source. I searched this and low and behold, several other s4 owners are having the same issue. It started happening two nights ago after I didn't get the phone on a charger before it died, then I charged it overnight - next morning it wouldn't start up. I don't think it has anything to do with having the twrp bootloader though, because it had been on there a couple weeks and restarted more than once with no issues.
If anyone knows how to fix the usb thing, I've got...lets say a $50 reward up for grabs. Not much but it's all I can afford to not void my warranty.

The problem with the custom recovery partition you have on there is that it prevents you from doing a factory reset in the settings menu. At least as far as I'm aware. If mobile ODIN worked on our phones I would say download that and re-flash with the tar file on your msd card. SafeStrap might be a way to give this a try. I can't link to another forum in here but I would look into that.
Maybe replace the usb port yourself

Well I'm not exactly sure what did it, but I used a small flathead screwdriver to bend the connector inside the usb port up a little, as I read that can be an issue with these phones, and used an old cable from a blackberry, and one of the two let me get it connected to the pc and flashed back to the stock rom via ODIN. Still won't charge with any combination of wall chargers/cables, so I'm going to take it in to Verizon. But it's a huge sigh of relief knowing that they won't be able to claim I damaged it by putting a custom bootloader on. Thanks for the input. Hope OP gets his problems sorted also.

If you were on me7 you shouldn't have been able to get twrp as your recovery. So if you are on me7 then your recovery is still stock even if you tried to flash twrp.

That may have been true, I might have been trying the wrong buttons to get to recovery. Still learning some stuff. But the twrp loader definitely changed the splash and download screen enough that I needed to get it off so that no red flags will be thrown when I take it in to Verizon to have them look at it.
Thanks for everybody's help! I managed to connect to ODIN by pushing the usb in different ways until I got a connection and sent it back to Verizon completely stock
