[MOD] Stock 2.3.3 bootanimation.zip (no sound) - Motorola Droid X2

Okay so I found that I couldn't get the "droid" sound to stop on startup even when the phone is on silent. This annoyed me so I got to playing around with it and figured out how to keep it from doing so.
Made one small change in the bootanimation.zip file. I am a noob and this is a very minor, minor modification. But figured it may help someone else out.
here is the modified bootanimation.zip file....
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31976911/bootanimation.zip
md5: 5bc43a30cbfb90b39befae3fd0aedd06
Installation (would be cool if I knew how to make update.zip)
1. Download file to phone.
2. Use root explorer and navigate to /system/media
3. Mount system as r/w
4. rename bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip.bak (so that you can get sound back if you want to later)
5. navigate to downloaded bootanimation.zip and copy or cut
6. navigate back to /system/media and paste bootanimation.zip
7. mount system at r/o
All done, now no more sounds at boot when phone is silenced.
Hope this helps anyone.
USE AT OWN RISK always wanted to say that.

Removing the sound was on my TO-DO List
this just made it easy for me - THANKs

This rocks! I like the stock Android animation over the red eye too

So if I read correctly the start-up sound will be muted or lower volume depending on what your phone volume is set to? That is pretty sweet. I like my bootanimation as it is, what modifications did you do for this to work? I'd like to do this, but keep my setup. Thanks! Solid idea.

I tried it, but all I got was a black screen during the boot process - no animation at all. I'm running the 2.3.3 Eclipse ROM. That may be the reason. My bootanimation file does not play the DROOOOOOID sound, but it has the CW7 Bionic Eye, which is way more ugly than the stock Droid eye. I would have liked the stock 2.3.3 google animation.
I may play with the zip files to see if I can swap out the animation. .... or what I'd REALLY like to have a copy of the VZW animation that Samsung uses if anyone has a copy of the file

I just put together a hackers boot animation based on crash overrides bootup screen from the movie hackers
I made it for my Rogers evo 3d so the zip is Rogers_bootanimation.zip

update
i forgot to upload the bootanimation so here it is
heres the sound to go with it
seeing this thread reminded me of that movie, havent seen it in a long time. gonna have to watch it now.
Request one .zip file (bootanimation+audio) in order to flash thru recovery. Tried to get it done before my computer completely crashed on me .
Preview please?
Is kool but you should make it so that it loops. After the initial boot it just stays static.

Oh my god. Lol
I lived this movie when I was younger. Not realistic at all. But I understood you can't show real hacking because it would be boring for movie goers.
I am totally flashing this! Awesome going man!
Actually, some of the stuff they did in that movie was possible only a few years prior.
Read this and see if it looks familiar.

Oh yeah. I know about that and the captain crunch whistlers 2600hz tone that triggered the tone the phone made when a coin was dropped. But by the time the movie came out that was well and fixed.
But I'm talking about "hacking the Gibson" and all that stuff. You know what I'm talking about. Lol

Anyway to get a flashable .zip made up?
Is it also possible to make the sound louder? I could barely hear it when my phone booted up. Thanks!
Help
I'm not sure how to go about making a flashable zip. If anyone can direct me in the right direction I will do it up.

[Boot Animations] Custom Movie Themed for Photon (9/7/2011)

This will be my first foray into any sort of Andriod development and I will be starting with boot animations here with down animations to follow.
All animations will be tested on my handset prior to my posting, zipped with no compression, and installed to /system/media using Root Explorer, permissions set to rw-r-r.
If you experience flicker or any difficulties please let me know!
Please post requests for what you'd like to see!
Animations
Happy Feet Intro Dance

As corny as this sounds, I'd like to have the Moto Bionic boot screen, with sound.
I've tried several times to make it on my own, but I can't get it to work.

Could you modify the stock boot animation to just repeat the "pulse" animation that it starts with? I was trying to do this but I can't seem to pull it apart correctly and put it back together.
Regarding the stock animation, yes I should be able to do that. My apologies for not replying sooner as I've been on the road for business.

Boot Animations

Now that we have root, has anyone changed their boooader animation? I went searching in the files and noticed it was not as simple as renaming a bootanimation.zip file.
I'm trying to add the good ol energy star bios screen on to mine, had the same on my evo.

You might want to change the name of your thread. This has nothing to do with the bootloader.
I tried to change the boot animation file with an old boot animation file from the razr. Didn't work, still got the same stupid boot animation. that file didn't cause a problem either

I did the same thing, only I just tried altering the original images from the normal boot animation. There seems to be more than one location for the boot animation than just the system/customize/resource file location. If anyone can find it, let us know. I'd love to start making some custom boot animations for everyone.

A boot animation? No, I just wanted to know where to put them to actually get them to work. I like to make my own, but am used to Motorola phones. It was just one file location for those boot animations and really easy to change.
It should be in system /media
I have an Evo, but I know on some Evo ROMs it's in data/local. (I think on CM 7 Evo roms). Hope this helps at all.

Well, there's bootanimation.zip in system/media and hTC_bootanimation.zip in system/customize/resource. If I change the hTC boot, nothing happens. If I change the regular boot in media, it's just the htc splash screen and then it all goes black. Luckily it still starts. Not sure what would happen if I change both of them. Kind of afraid to now, haha.

The bootanimation is in the system/customize/resource folder. It's Vigor_VZW_bootanimation.zip there is also one more called hTCbootanimation.zip in there as well. This is the first I seen a two stage boot animation. The easy was to change is to replace the vigor one and name the new one the same. If you want to change the location you will need to edit the default.xml in the system/resource/CID folder. For instance my bootanimation for my Rom is in system/media/anim folder now. Ofcourse the anim folder is one I created.
One last thing, if you don't delete the hTCbootanimation. You will continue to see the HTC quietly brilliant animation after the splash screen.
Hope this sheds light on the whole topic.

Hmm I wonder if this is specific to Chingy's rom or not. It doesn't seem to play the boot animation and just sticks at the white HTC screen. Although the phone does vibrate once, and if you hit the power button it turns the screen off during the white htc screen. Then if you turn the screen back on it plays the bootanimation for a few seconds before going to the lockscreen. I do see the edits in the default.xml to search for the bootanimation in the /system/media folders. I went in and saw the htcbootanimation in the system/ccustom/resource so I deleted that. Thought maybe that would fix the issue, but no dice. I even edited the default.xml to see if changing the boot animation path to system/customize/resource made a difference. I posted on his thread already, but wonder if anyone else has any ideas in the mean time :x.
Edit: the stock boot animation works without an hitch.... Ima check some permissions and see if that does anything.

[MOD] CM10/CM9/MIUI softkeys & Hardkey re-map

Soft key mod for CM9DX2
What this mod will do:
1. Enable on screen soft keys.
2. Disable button backlights.
While looking for a fix for this I stumbled on this app: Button Remapper
Unfortunately this app will not work on our device. I think that I can manually do remap them to work how the app works. But this would mean that everybody would use the buttons for the same thing. I was thinking of using them as media buttons as in menu=previous song home=play/pause back=next song.. let me know what you think.
If you want your hardkeys mapped a certain way just ask nicely! Maybe I can do it for you.
As always.. **Flash at your own risk**
Credits:
Evilisto for a great writeup on how to enable them.
Go thank mattmanwrx for helping me with the framework.apk
motcher41 for some help on the updater script.
Many people on xda for threads that I seached through.
Most of all.. DZK for giving us CM9!
How to flash:
Like any other mod.
1. Boot into recovery.
2. Make NANDROID backup!
3. Wipe dalvik/cache. (NO NEED TO WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET )
4. Flash zip.
5. Reboot.
CM10
Alpha 3
CM9
Beta 1 softkeys
Beta 1 disable
MIUI 2.8.10
2.8.10 enable
2.8.10 disable
By going to:
Settings >
System >
Navigation bar >
You can edit and add or remove features of navigation bar. Thanks again dark_system for pointing this out.
Hardkey remap (these will work for all versions even though they are labeled for alpha 4)
Flash this after softkey mod if you want your hardkeys to be media buttons:
Menu= Previous song
Home= Play/pause
Back button= Next song
Please note:These will work while screen is OFF, so if you have issues with hitting the buttons while your phone is in your pocket I do not suggest flashing. I did it this way because I play music off of my phone a LOT and I do not want to wake it every time I wanted to go to the next song.
This zip will do the same as above, but will also use the search key as a camera button like the one on a droid x for example.
This one is made for gamers. It will turn your hard keys into dpad keys.
Menu= Dpad left
Home= Dpad up
Back= Dpad down
Search= Dpad right
And here is the zip for the stock hardkeys so you can try out both the mod and hardkey zips and flash back to stock easily.
The mods here will come from the thread in jsgraphicart's post in this post. Just to be clear, this is not my work, it is work of the developers who make the originals in that thread.
I am not going to make a zip for every one of the mods, but if a couple people request it I can get one made.
Newest MIUI softkeys come with the robotov2 style.
I have made a zip for CM9 Beta one and ParanoidAndroid using the ics blue reflection. (Although the PA one looks funky, not sure about the others yet)
CM9 Beta 1- Will only work if you already have the softkey mod installed.
ParanoidAndroid
You can also do this yourself, it is not very hard.
1. Take one of the softkey mods for your rom.
2. Unzip the files and navigate to system/app/SystemUI.apk
3. Extract the SystemUI.apk files and navigate to res/drawable-hdpi
4. Unzip the mod with the softkey you would like and navigate to the folders with the softkey images.
5. Move the images from the you want into drawable-hdpi.
6. Rezip all contents of SystemUI.apk.(assets, meta-inf, androidmanifest, ect.) Make you have .apk on the end.
7. Place your new SystemUI.apk back in system/app and delete what was leftover.
8. Rezip the contents of the mod and sign using this tool.
9. Flash and enjoy.
Thanks glad someone is working on this, hope you can get it straightened out.

Yeah, I don't understand why that happens. I didn't touch anything other than change the nav bar value to true and add a few png files to system ui. Looks alright in landscape, it's hardly useable in portrait though. I'm trying to find a fix in the thread that I got the directions for this from and it seems like there are a lot of people that posted with the same problem but none posted a solution, at least that I could find.

Also, I'm glad you made a backup.. But the op does states that the zip was only tested on alpha 3.

Look forward to it. I can deal with that stuff I just hate my hard buttons
I love the soft buttons, and can't wait for them to be done for Alpha 4, but curious, is there any way for them to be located on the bottom at all times(Portrait or Landscape Mode)?
I don't think so, that's the way they were designed. I googled to see if there was any kind of mod out there that would do this and I couldn't find anything. It's probably possible, but I don't think anybody wants to put in that much time.

Hmm I haven't had any problems flashing back and forth. And you shouldn't have to sbf, recovery should still be installed, you should either have a nandroid backup or you can flash cm9 again with wiping only cache and dalvik.
Now which file were you trying to flash and which version of cm9 were you on? And what steps did you take.

I was flashing the latest alpha 4 mod file, and I am on cm9 alpha 4. I didn't sbf. just restored nandroid. I thought I was going to have to since it didn't go into recovery at first. But I pulled battery and then was able too.
I wiped the big three and then flashed the mod .zip through bsr.
Then it just stays at boot animation forever. I pulled battery and same thing. 3 times.

Also note that when you wipe the dalvik, it takes longer to boot since it has to build it again. How long did you wait before concluding it was stuck?

Go into system/app with Root Explorer or some other file manager and rename your Camera.apk to Camera.apk.bak, now move the new camera.apk that you just downloaded here and place it in system/app. Change the permissions to rw,r,r and owner to 0-root 0-root. Reboot and enjoy. Just remember none of these steps will work unless you have a system write kernel installed. Elkay and DSB have provided those kernels for us.

Installed this while running ViperDNA 1.0.1.
I used the proper method (rename existing camera.apk to camera.apk.bak and put the new camera.apk in system/app and set perms to rw-r--r--, then rebooted) and the phone is hot booting endlessly... which leads me to think that its kernel related (although I'm using the kernel / boot.img that came with viper, which is dsb's stock sys write kernel). It's strange because that would lead me to believe that perms aren't sticking? Idk.

That is odd! Not sure if this matters, but did you change the owner permissions to 0-root for owner and group? Can't think of any other reason why it would be booting endlessly. Either the kernel sytem/write isn't sticking or perhaps the above permissions need to be changed as well. I think by default one of the two settings are already set at 0-root , but the other one is not, so you would need to do that.

I use Root Explorer, so the only permissions that I see are the Read, Write, and Execute for the Owner, Group, and Others categories (I set them to rw-r--r--. Under that there are Special Permissions which are "Set UID", "Set GID", and "Sticky".. but that's about it.

After you change those permissions back out and go back to the Camera.apk and long press on it, scroll all the way to the bottom and you will see the option Change owner.
