Now that we have root, has anyone changed their boooader animation? I went searching in the files and noticed it was not as simple as renaming a bootanimation.zip file.
I'm trying to add the good ol energy star bios screen on to mine, had the same on my evo.

You might want to change the name of your thread. This has nothing to do with the bootloader.
I tried to change the boot animation file with an old boot animation file from the razr. Didn't work, still got the same stupid boot animation. that file didn't cause a problem either

I did the same thing, only I just tried altering the original images from the normal boot animation. There seems to be more than one location for the boot animation than just the system/customize/resource file location. If anyone can find it, let us know. I'd love to start making some custom boot animations for everyone.

A boot animation? No, I just wanted to know where to put them to actually get them to work. I like to make my own, but am used to Motorola phones. It was just one file location for those boot animations and really easy to change.
It should be in system /media
I have an Evo, but I know on some Evo ROMs it's in data/local. (I think on CM 7 Evo roms). Hope this helps at all.

Well, there's bootanimation.zip in system/media and hTC_bootanimation.zip in system/customize/resource. If I change the hTC boot, nothing happens. If I change the regular boot in media, it's just the htc splash screen and then it all goes black. Luckily it still starts. Not sure what would happen if I change both of them. Kind of afraid to now, haha.
try this one in system/media....

Ok, that was sick. Not sure why that worked, but I'm pretty sure it has to do with the fact that I'm an idiot and wasn't doing something right. haha. You have any others?

The bootanimation is in the system/customize/resource folder. It's Vigor_VZW_bootanimation.zip there is also one more called hTCbootanimation.zip in there as well. This is the first I seen a two stage boot animation. The easy was to change is to replace the vigor one and name the new one the same. If you want to change the location you will need to edit the default.xml in the system/resource/CID folder. For instance my bootanimation for my Rom is in system/media/anim folder now. Ofcourse the anim folder is one I created.
One last thing, if you don't delete the hTCbootanimation. You will continue to see the HTC quietly brilliant animation after the splash screen.
Hope this sheds light on the whole topic.

Hmm I wonder if this is specific to Chingy's rom or not. It doesn't seem to play the boot animation and just sticks at the white HTC screen. Although the phone does vibrate once, and if you hit the power button it turns the screen off during the white htc screen. Then if you turn the screen back on it plays the bootanimation for a few seconds before going to the lockscreen. I do see the edits in the default.xml to search for the bootanimation in the /system/media folders. I went in and saw the htcbootanimation in the system/ccustom/resource so I deleted that. Thought maybe that would fix the issue, but no dice. I even edited the default.xml to see if changing the boot animation path to system/customize/resource made a difference. I posted on his thread already, but wonder if anyone else has any ideas in the mean time :x.
Edit: the stock boot animation works without an hitch.... Ima check some permissions and see if that does anything.

Okay so I found that I couldn't get the "droid" sound to stop on startup even when the phone is on silent. This annoyed me so I got to playing around with it and figured out how to keep it from doing so.
Made one small change in the bootanimation.zip file. I am a noob and this is a very minor, minor modification. But figured it may help someone else out.
here is the modified bootanimation.zip file....
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31976911/bootanimation.zip
md5: 5bc43a30cbfb90b39befae3fd0aedd06
Installation (would be cool if I knew how to make update.zip)
1. Download file to phone.
2. Use root explorer and navigate to /system/media
3. Mount system as r/w
4. rename bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip.bak (so that you can get sound back if you want to later)
5. navigate to downloaded bootanimation.zip and copy or cut
6. navigate back to /system/media and paste bootanimation.zip
7. mount system at r/o
All done, now no more sounds at boot when phone is silenced.
Hope this helps anyone.
USE AT OWN RISK always wanted to say that.
Removing the sound was on my TO-DO List
this just made it easy for me - THANKs
This rocks! I like the stock Android animation over the red eye too
So if I read correctly the start-up sound will be muted or lower volume depending on what your phone volume is set to? That is pretty sweet. I like my bootanimation as it is, what modifications did you do for this to work? I'd like to do this, but keep my setup. Thanks! Solid idea.
I tried it, but all I got was a black screen during the boot process - no animation at all. I'm running the 2.3.3 Eclipse ROM. That may be the reason. My bootanimation file does not play the DROOOOOOID sound, but it has the CW7 Bionic Eye, which is way more ugly than the stock Droid eye. I would have liked the stock 2.3.3 google animation.
I may play with the zip files to see if I can swap out the animation. .... or what I'd REALLY like to have a copy of the VZW animation that Samsung uses if anyone has a copy of the file

I made it for my Rogers evo 3d so the zip is Rogers_bootanimation.zip
to use it in a custom rom just rename it Bootanimation.zip
I love this boot up and plan to add more animations to it.

seeing this thread reminded me of that movie, havent seen it in a long time. gonna have to watch it now.
Request one .zip file (bootanimation+audio) in order to flash thru recovery. Tried to get it done before my computer completely crashed on me .
Preview please?
Is kool but you should make it so that it loops. After the initial boot it just stays static.

Oh my god. Lol
I lived this movie when I was younger. Not realistic at all. But I understood you can't show real hacking because it would be boring for movie goers.
I am totally flashing this! Awesome going man!
Actually, some of the stuff they did in that movie was possible only a few years prior.
Read this and see if it looks familiar.

Oh yeah. I know about that and the captain crunch whistlers 2600hz tone that triggered the tone the phone made when a coin was dropped. But by the time the movie came out that was well and fixed.

Anyway to get a flashable .zip made up?
Is it also possible to make the sound louder? I could barely hear it when my phone booted up. Thanks!

OK so this is NOT a direct answer to your question, sorry. I found when using the down animations they all seem to be coded weird or something, because AFTER they finish there's about an 8 second delay before the screen actually goes off.
This lead me to REMOVE the downanim, which can be done by editing out some lines the default.xml.
I do have ONE downanim that is the "HTC - quietly brilliant" in a kinda neon green theme, which works well. Please feel free to PM me if you want help with either one

If you remove the lines on default.xml does the phone just turn off without having the black screen that it does now after the down animation?

yes and no. It does not have a black screen, so, yes. But, in place of the downanim, there's a dialog box "shutting down" for a few secs first, so, no.
Lol. Sorry if that makes no sense, try it out
Oh the edit is in /system/customize/CID/default.xml
near the bottom, edit out everything in between these two lines, but leave the lines themselves.
< ShutdownConfiguration >
blahblahblah <- edit out
< /ShutdownConfiguration >
Thanks I appreciate the feedback. I gather nobody really does boot down amnimations with the Evo 3d.
My rom has a CRT down animation, you can grab that one if u want it.
I seem to have located the bootanimation.zip(s).
/system/customize/resource/
Vigor_VZW_bootanimation.zip
hTC_bootanimation.zip
Attempting a push, however results in a read-only message for that directory.
Has anyone successfully replaced their Rezound bootanimation?

There is an xml that will need edited in order for it to look in other folders for the animation. In my latest roms I had them in the media folder. It's a simple edit but will require root in order to overwrite the xml

Hi!
I'm from Uruguay South America and I'm an owner of a LG G2 Mini. I don't speak in english very well so I'm just gonna try beacuse I thing Google translator is worst than me.
I'm kind of seek with the bootanimation of my cellphone company (I don't mean LG) so as I did before in another ol Android that I have (Samsung GT-I5500) I tried to change the bootanimation.
As I know the boot animation folder is system/media and there it is... bootanimation.zip. For knowledge reasons, I copy bootanimation.zip in to my PC and extract it and surprisingly it was the original bootanimation from LG, not from my cellphone company.
With root explorer y search for "bootanimation.zip" and there is only 1 file with that name, the one I found, the LG bootanimation.
The question is, what the hell just happened? Why I'm not watching the original LG bootanimation when I turn on my phone? and where is the bootanimation working in my phone? how can I change my bootanimation if I can't even find it?
Thanks for any anwsrer and again sorry for my REALLY bad english
Is there any other file in /system/media/ ?
BTW, I also have a GT-I5500

Well, another folder with the audios, ringtones, etc.
Anyway i have found the solution by myself. The bootanimation.zip working in my phone is in cust/poweron (or poweroff for the animation when the phone turn off). So y copy de bootanimation.zip from system/media to cust/poweron and the same in shutdownanimation.zip in cust/shutdown and it works. I don't know if looking for any boot animation on the internet with the same resolution (540x960) and put it in that folder will work, I guess it does, because I don't see any difference, but I'm really scary about bricking my phone (I love it) so I'm not even gonna try. If someone wants to do it, by your own risk.

I think it's not possible to brick the phone by changing bootanimation, anyway I have removed the animations from cust/poweron and poweroff and now my phone is using the ones found in system/media. And if u remove them completly then it boot with black screen or with android inscription flashing.
I've found in Google Play a bootanination changer app and in the comments I see a lot of people speaking about brick for using a wrong bootanimation resolution, I don't know how true it is.
These are pics of my g2 mini with cm boot animation and my nexus 7 with normal, too big and too small boot animations. I really can't imagine how to brick a device by changing them.

I think it's not possible to brick the phone by changing bootanimation. I found in my G2 mini hidden folder "data/.OP/ORG_COM/poweron/bootanimation.zip" and there I switched animations.
Yeah, you guys are right, I've changed the bootanimation so many times and nothing happened. But the battery of the G2 mini is really good, so you don't see the bootanimation too many times in a week lol
Any resolution possible?
Is it possible to use a bootanimation with a different resolution (480x800)?

I probably had on his L5 bootanimations of the nexus and L7, although not visible in its entirety.
