[Q] Ringtones on Gingerbread? - Motorola Droid X2

So I recently updated my phone to P3's Rooted Gingerbread and I can't seem to find any of my own ringtones when I try to apply them in Settings>Sound>Phone Ringtone (or Notification Ringtone for that matter).
I came from a rooted, custom ROM'd OG Droid, so I knew that I had to put it in the SD card under media>audio>ringtones(or notifications). Since the Droid X2 has an internal partition, I put them in there and it worked just fine in Froyo. After I updated to Gingerbread, it doesn't seem to be able to locate any of the custom ones at all.
If anyone has any idea as to what is going on, that would be very much appreciated.

bump. Anyone?

Actually, they are visible in the stock "File Explorer" and Root Explorer, but that isn't the issue that I have. I am talking about trying to set a default general ringtone or notification sound but I'm unable to find it in the list that it provides.

Try ringtones or notifications or alarms depending on what you want on the root of /sdcard.

What file explorer do you use and why?

Hi, I know this is kind of a weak topic to start but, I haven't been on Android in about 3 years and have really lost track of, and gotten out of the loop in what is going on here.... I still remember alot, and even had .apk's stashed away from having a rooted G1 running CM6 back in the day.... I want to know what file explorer/browser you are using and why... I am currently unemployed and don't really want to spend on a pair file browser but wouldn't mind paying $.99 so post your favorite even if it costs more and tell me why!!!
TIA
it dont matter right now
Just use stock until we get (if we get) bootloader unlocked and sbf. but i have root explorer downloaded it works great you can get into any file you want, but you need to be rooted. Even though right now if you have a x2 there is no reason for a good file explorer there is nothing special to do right now. i bought back in the day when i had a og droid it was very useful back then.
I use root explorer as well it helped me swap my sd card partitions with ease once we had the right file. I just find root explorer to be easier to use its not complicated at least to me.
For the browser I use dolphin hd its free in the market. It works fast has some pretty good features like addons support, slide your finger on the left side of.the screen and you will get your bookmarks. I enjoy using dolphin.hd better then the stock.browser

I use stock for now. Used to switch between Root Explorer and Astro on my Droid. Astro helped me view my sloppy, unorganized SD card with ease.
I always have root explorer for when i need it, but I use astro any other time. Mostly out of habit, a few ROMs I've gone through even came with it, but its also pretty feature rich. My buddy was always using ES, and if i remember right it had some nice features for those that root built in.
Astro works better than the stock file manager, but root explorer really is king in the field.
Always used Estrongs on the stock. ROM. But miui has a decent one pre-installes. It even has an FTP server and used space analyzer. Which is very awesome!

Anyone using Droid Explorer?
Over in the Touch Pro 2 forum, it was mentioned quite heavily and it appears to be working.
Or is this more of a tool for rooted devices?

Pretty sure Droid Explorer is a Windows program that allows you to decompile apps

I use File Expert. It is great for Root access and it also connects to my home pc over wifi for copying files.
Thanks for all the opinions folks... Really appreciate it... Went ahead and spent the money for root explorer as I plan to be on android for a longtime coming now....
I also picked up root explorer and it is definitely worth the money. Android should have had this all along.

[Q] Ringtones

I want to be able to use certain mp3s as ringtones but I don't see a way to get the system to use them. Under Windows Mobile, it was no problem.
Where do I need to put those mp3s and other sound files I want to use and what program should I use?
Go grab RingDroid, it's free and in the market. Make your ringtones right on your phone.
Oh yeah, if you want it on the phone, you can move it to /system/media/audio/ringtones/ but you need to have root access to put it there. File format must be supported for it to work.
Ringdroid is your best bet

You can also put it in /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones/ and it will see it after a reboot

I recommend using the guide found here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315711
So, I assume you've used Pete's Rooting Tool, with that said, am I assuming correctly that, this tool is what said you were successfully rooted?
Also, what launcher are you running on your DX2? Some launchers give you the ability to hide apps in the app drawer and perhaps that app is hidden. A better way to check for this app would be to go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> "All Tab" -> Scroll and look for Superuser
I'd also give it another shot. Make sure you pay close attention to the steps provided, sometimes it's easy to miss one of the steps. If you're still having problems, post back some of the things you've checked and we can continue to help you troubleshoot the issue.
Using Petes one click I was never successfully rooted even tho on the computer screen it says I was successfully rooted.
The one thing I noticed while using Petes one click is that my phone is only rebooted once during the whole process. Also I'm running adw ex and the apps aren't hidden.

Try the new zerg method in the 2.3.5 leak post. It works pretty smooth although the petes one shouldwork for ya.

Honestly sounds like permissions error, as you can only access it with root explorer... or the files are "hidden". Sounds like someones been tweaking lol. When did the plroblem arise?

Last week. I was giving my phone a makeover. Trying out some new themes and launchers. Aside from messing with a couple radio values I haven't done a thing to the code in a long while; and even then I could access everything.
However I did wipe my card of the non essentials (music, random pics and apps) as I'm beginning yo use more cloud services. That is the only significant interaction between me and the SD card.

[Q] Custom Notification Sounds?

How do I change the notification sound for SMS in my Rezound? I have a short mp3 file I transferred to the SD card, I then tried to copy and paste that file into the notifications folder onboard the Rezound, but it said something about something being read-only, so it didn't let me paste.
I'm on stock ICS, non-rooted.
Does anyone know how I can get my mp3 sample into the Rezound for the SMS notification sound?

Have you tried this:
To use custom ringtones for your phone ringtone, your alarm or your text message notification, simply copy an MP3 file to one of the following folders: /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones /sdcard/media/audio/alarms /sdcard/media/audio/notifications If they don't already exist, then create a new folder. The file will then show up when you want to change your ringtones. For Ringtones go to Settings - Sound - Phone ringtone For Text Messages go to - Settings - Sound - Notification ringtone For Alarm, set the sound when you add a new alarm - See more at:

maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I tried to finding that folder in ES file explorer and couldn't find it. It shows sdcard and sdcard2. in sdcard, the link to notifications is sdcard/notifications or sdcard/media/audio/notification. However, in the audio folder inside sdcard, there is only a notifications folder, no ringtones or alarms folder. When I pasted the sound to the notifications folders, I still couldn't find my custom sound when trying to change the notification sound in the SMS options.
The method I tried in the OP, was in a folder not in the sdcard or sdcard2, but inside a folder in the onboard phone folders (system/media/audio/notifications), or whatever is the root of the sdcard and sdcard2 folders.

I placed the mp3 file in both directories under sdcard and sdcard2 and it still doesn't show up in the list of sounds for notifications. I think I tried creating the folder in sdcard2, but I think it was already present in sdcard. I notice that those default notification sounds are not located in the sdcard or sdcard folders but rather are in the root folder of both sdcard and sdcard2 under the folder "system".
The directory is /system/media/audio/notifications. I tried placing the mp3 file there using ES explorer, but it doesn't let me paste there as it gives me an error about it being read-only. I don't know how to change that read-only option.
Picture of the error:
You get that error because you don't have root permissions....what version of stock ROM are you using....I'll flash it myself and figure it out for you....if you root and flash custom ROM you wouldn't have to worry about the hassle...also if you root don't use es explorer....use ROM toolbox but keep in mind it requires you have root
Edit: give me a screenshot of about phone...hide noir imei and stuff but just so I can see what version your on

I already had a Notifications folder in the sdcard folder with the mp3 file in it so I just made one for sdcard2. After doing that I went to try to change the notifications sound in the sms options and it appeared in the list. But then I tried to delete the sdcard2 folder to try to see if I can diagnose the problem such as whether the sdcard folder was enough or if I needed the sdcard2 folder as well and after that I couldn't get it to show up in the list of sounds anymore. I recreated the folder in sdcard2 with the mp3, but it won't show up in sound list anymore. I don't know what happened. I shut down and restarted the phone after deleting the folder in sdcard2 as well as recreating the folder and it still doesn't work anymore.

I couldn't find an option to set text tone in the sound settings. All I found was a notifications tone setting, but couldn't find my mp3 file in the list there.
After doing it at first, it worked. So then I deleted the folders and eventually tried creating again and it didn't work. I then tried shutting off and restarting and it didn't work as well.
