[Q] Original battery life. - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey quick question, Running my streak with Streakdroid 1.9, only background apps are widgetlocker, twitter/facebook sync updates (even though they only seem to update properly when i tell them to.
Average use, few texts throughout the day, screen brightness on about 30%, no phone calls and minimal wifi or 3G data use as i'm around computers all day. I never use it for music/movies either.
Took off charge at 9.12AM, 86% at 12.28, after no use other use than sending 2 texts and receiving one. I got this phone in November last year, is the battery literally just this shocking or should i email DELL about getting a replacement?
TLR = Original battery dies faster than the person that says they'll brb in horror films, what do? (Also what's the correct email address to ask for?)

Maybe you should try a new baseband?

See i've asked this many times, what is a baseband and what does it do? I've never upgraded it due to the fact no one has answered this question
Also how would a baseband affect battery life? My phone says: GAUSB1A131921-EU

IIRC, baseband is a separate ARM CPU running a real time operating system that handles the actual business of communicating with the mobile phone network. When flashing the phone, 'baseband' = operating system image for this CPU. You need a baseband version compatible with the version of Android you're running (what exactly is compatible in this context depends on the phone + version of Android)
Different baseband could affect battery due to different mobile radio use pattern or maybe by keeping Android awake for longer or by different power saving behavior on baseband CPU etc.

I see, thank you Anyone know if it's worth looking for the best one for 1.9 Streakdroid or if i should try out DJ Steve's Streakdroid 2.0? I understand that's WIP and the baseband is completely different or something?

I'm afraid I don't know. I'm on the same baseband as you and I want to know if it's safe to install retail 351 on it. I know that the wrong baseband could stop your phone booting, might make Android unstable, prevent you making phone calls or accessing internet over 3G so I'm not keen on risking it...

I run 1.9.1 and finally, my battery will last me over 24 hours. And thats with moderate use, trip to three hours of phone use on a bluetooth headset, and even some video from youtube or crackle. What I did this time was to install the stock 354, then 1.9.1 over that. I had bounced around between different roms so much that I'm sure my firmware files were all mismatched. Installing a stock rom from an update.pkg, not update.zip, installs several firmwares. The bandana off only one of these, albeit the most popular.
After the install I started using apps such as spare parts and cpu spy to help me figure put what was using up my battery the most. I turned my notifications to every two hours for Tweetcaster Pro and turned off notifications for Facebook. The facebook app seemed to be one of the biggest culprits.
It takes a little bit of work and patience to figure it out, but it makes a huge difference in the end. I no longer worry about my battery not making it through my day anymore.

So what method did you use to accomplish that. I am interested in trying flashing stock (probably either 351, or 353) and then putting SimpleStreak 1.2 back over top. When I got some free time today and tried to do it I realized that Clockworkmod recovery replaces the option that would let me flash an *.pkg file. Did you flash the stock recovery, flash the stock rom, then reflash clockworkmod?
Thanks for the help.

Correct. Except use StreakMod and not Clockwork.

That's what I did this time. Though in the past I was using Clockwork because the previous versions of Streakmod I had tried didn't agree with my phone. I used Multirecovery flasher and it worked great. The only snag I went into is none of my nandroid backups would restore.* It made the whole thing more of a headache than it needed to be. From now on I guess I'll have to try restoring right after I back up to make sure everything is working.
*I tried to restore them through the same version of Clockworkmod that I had before and they all failed with the checksum error.

Did you rename the folder the backup was in? Spaces and some otjher characters can cause issues, search and you will find posts relating to this (see the clockwork and streakmod threads).
You can also manually check the md5 sums of the backup to see if the values in the file agree. There is a file named nandroid.md5 that is just a text file with the checksums, compare these values with the checksums for the files in the backup. I use hashcheck in WinXP to add the checksums to the properties dialog in the file explorer.

Nope, I didn't change a thing. At first I flashed the wrong recovery(Streakmod) and it said it couldn't find them. But I dug through my computer and flashed what I believe is the same version of Clockworkmod (should be the same, It's the only non-stock recovery I had saved) that gave me the md5 errors. No biggy though, after some hours of work and playing most of Cut the Rope again I'm pretty much back where I was.

[Q] Confused with all these different versions, kernels, etc...

Hey Guys,
I hate to ask these stupid questions, but the more I research this, the more I am getting confused. I'm hoping someone can put this in laymans terms for me. I have flashed many windows phones with custom roms, and I've even successfully flashed my Streak multiple times. But I want to make sure I am doing everything correctly and get the most bang out of my phone.
Here is what i know:
I know I got Android 2.2; Dj Steve's Streakdroid 1.8.1; clockworkmod v2.5.0.1 and baseband GAUSB1A130500-US.
What I dont know:
How the phone got rooted, i bought the phone rooted (not sure if that matters)
What does a new version of clockworkmod do for me?
What does a new baseband do for me? Which is best?
Is there anything else that I should install/flash to have better experience?
Issues I encounter...
I have to hard reset my phone atleast once a day... My phone locks up, becomes very unresponsive, input lags, or the touchscreen acts funny and wont let me unlock the lock screen (it reads input, but won't allow me to drag the slider up far enough to unlock). Another issue I experience quite often, when I am in a phone call, and another person calls in while I am hanging up, 9 times out of 10, my phone screen will go black except for the notification bar, the phone will be completely unresponsive, the screen will dim, and then it turns off. I have to hold down the on button and reboot it for it to come back to life. one more issue that I encounter, my music library shows folders, but says there is no music.. but if i look in the directories, they are filled with MP3 files...
side note:
I see people bragging about scores in the lower 2000's in quadrant.... I get AT MAX 1400... most of the time its between 900-1200... wtf
Any help would be greatly appreciated
There are a few basebands lying around
305, 309, 318, 319, 322
I haven't had any issues with speed or reseting on 318 or 341
Ok am I correct in assuming that GAUSB1A130500-US = bb 305?

That version was buggy and was replaced with a later official update. You might want to visit:
http://mobileupdate.dell.com/PackageProductionLocations/Streak_318_12821_00.pkg
on your phone and getting the 318 update. See this thread at dell support.
I've attached a QR code you can scan with barcode scanner to get the update to your phone.
Since you have clockwork mod installed you will have to flash the stock recovery to the phone before you update.
Another option would be to install one of the Streakdroid Roms. I recommend 1.8.1
You may want to do more reading and get an understanding of what you are doing before you do anything.

You shouldn't need to install the stock rom unless you are having issues with 1.8.1.
Installing latest update package
It took me forever and a day, and 4 different computers to install StreakMod on my Streak so that I could do a nandroid backup.
Is there no way to use StreakMod to use the update I downloaded from the Dell site? If not, how do I get back to stock recovery?
Sorry for the noob questions but I am just getting started....

[Q] New to Streak but not android. Initial help please

Hi all,
I have been on xda-dev for years and my new Streak arrives tomorrow. I have read a ton of posts all over this section including the wiki and faq's but if someone could help me with a few basic questions that would be great.
I'm assuming my streak will arrive with 2.2 (froyo) or do they still come with 1.6 on ?
What is the best course of action for me rom wise ? I run a very lightweight rooted 2.3.4 rom on my Nexus S and would like something similarly light on my Streak. Can I just root the standard 2.2 (and strip out the bloat) or am I best off installing a custom rom (maybe Streakdroid 1.9) right off the bat ?
Really excited about my new purchase and looking forward to contributing.
Thanks in advance.
maltloaf
The closest thing to 2.3.4 is djsteves gingerstreak 2.0
It still needs a little work but is looking pretty good.
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
I don't particularly need gingerbread just lightweight, fast and rooted
Streakdroid 1.9 with baseband 354 is super light. You can root through rom installation or through flashing superuser.zip.
You'll need clockwork recovery or streakrecovery (or whatever) to do most of this.
When I got my phone in feb/march it had 1.6. When I got my replacement it had 2.2. You'll want a launcher (i'm sure you know) because the dell launcher is meh.
it arrived this morning with 2.2 on it. I updated with the official update to 2.2.2 and rooted by fastboot flashing streakmod recovery and then superuser.zip.
Feels a bit sluggish at the mo so have installed SPB Shell 3D (as I had already bought it) and that's a bit more spritely than stageUI but will have a look at streakdroid 1.9 before I play too much I think. I quite like the dell widgets but I can see how the novelty would wear off quickly.
ok noob question. My baseband reads as GAUSB1A135100-EU
am i ok using that with streakdroid 1.9 or do I need to flash the one in the streakdroid thread (or some other) ?
many thanks again.

my suggestion is to upgrade to stock 354.
remove the bloat
remove dell stage ui and widgets and go with adw launcher or launcherpro
don't load more then 20-30 apps..
you will be screaming...
you can use a flashable zip to root, or use gingerbreak to root.
Thanks for the replies...
Which one is 354 and where do I get it ?
I've installed streakdroid 1.9.0 and it's really nice but i'm getting random reboots, even through factory resets. I think stock/rooted/lightened is the way forward for me personally.
This page is full of great info and links to all the roms http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Dell_Streak#Official

root uninstaller.
( from my personal experience , i have not seen any benefit from removing system apps
I'm inclined to agree after some investigating. On other handsets certain system apps are sometimes loaded into memory even if not being used.
I installed system panel lite from the market to see what was running and only saw items I had started.
Tomorrow I will be battling with locking the default orientation to portrait!
Cheers,
malty
i use titanium backup to uninstall apps.
Getting occasional internet drop outs. Data just stops even tho signal is good. (Doesn't happen on the same sim in my nexus). Would this be common and might a different baseband help?
Thanks again
I'm liking the 351 baseband more than I did the 354. My internet connection is more stable and I am able to switch between HSPA and WiFi in one click, whereas I wasn't able to with 318.
For unwanted apps, I use Root Explorer and go to the system apps and just delete it, it's worked better for me than Titanium.
But then I flashed StreakDroid 1.9 with the noapps in my install.txt and there really isn't anything left to get rid of if you flash that route, that's about as bare as it gets.
Although I do go and eliminate the stock browser and the stock gingerbread launcher and replace them with my preferences

Nope, you just flash a different baseband through fastboot, like I mentioned before, I decided to go stick with the 351 and have been happy since.
Had a look round but couldn't find the amss file (or any others for that matter) for 351. Are they all stored somewhere I haven't come across?
I had a go at downgrading to the full 351 Rom too but ran into problems. It seemed not to want to restore a Rom with an older date than I was running. I think the amss file will do fine for now though. My net connection really is hit and miss! Almost like the cellular radio is going to sleep.
Thanks,

[Q] using update.pkg vs just flashing the baseband

Hi all,
I've had a search but can't seem to find the answer to this query:
I've seen a few posts now that say you need to do an update via a .pkg to put a new baseband on, rather than just pushing the amss via fastboot.
What I'd like to find out is what's missing if you just flash the baseband?
I went from O2 2.1 to various Streakdroids (1.4 to 1.5.3 to 1.7, 1.8.1 and now 1.9.1). I flashed baseband 318 at some point and recently flashed 354 to the 1.8.1 build before upgrading on Monday to 1.9.1
Im not happy with battery life currently and also feel the performance should be better, compared to other people's posted figures.
Also a lot of folk are claiming over double the battery life I'm seeing.
What do I gain, if anything, by installing say the official 2.2.2 or 2.2.3 update.pkg and then re-installing Streakdroid 1.9.1? Can anyone give me a few pointers?
cheers.....
Read the last few posts in gingerstreak thread where they have very good explanation on this debate.
Sent from the Dell Streak
thanks!
Ideally I'd like to discover a bit more about what there is and what does what but that certainly tells me i need to go do the .pkg update and re-install!
much appreciated
Yes I had a issue with just flashing the baseband. Market and any other app would not update or install on my phone. Once I did a update pkg then install 1.9.1 all is good now.
Sent from the Dell Streak
quick answer would be, is that an official update.pkg will flash all the images built specifically to be compatible with eachother, including some core code.
afaik, flashing baseband on its own shouldn't really make a huge impact on stability..
I use 318 BB just cause its the last official 00 regional update in australia.. I could use 351 BB, which is the last 00 BB, which I've tried, but 318 works best.
cheers!
Stability is very very good, in fact it doesn't hang or reboot at all (as long as the CPU is kept at 1152 or under)
I was really thinking about battery life (there are rumours of the batterystats from 2.2.2 showing longer life and mine is currently awful), signal strength, wifi, graphics performance (my quadrant score seems low at 1571) etc.
i'll probably give it a bash anyway - all good for experience!
I am having the same issue with my streak. Battery performance does not seem as good as others report on 1.9.1, and I am unable to overclock past 1152 without freeze/eventual reboot.
Phone originally had ATT 1.6 on it, then upgraded to OS2 2.1, then to various versions of StreakDroid and currently 1.9.1.
Today I tried using the 351 recovery.img and flashed the 351 update.pkg for the stock ROM. After successfully booting and using the stock rom for a bit, I did a factory reset then I flashed back to streakmod recovery and then re-loaded streakdroid 1.9.1. Then I did another factory reset.
This made no difference on the overclocking issue for me. Any ideas what I could/should i try next?
I think thats purely a hardware factor. The CPUs have varations in clock speed limit and it looks like yours is the same as mine
Gonna play with .pkg updates over the weekend and see what if anything happens to battery life. Maybe I just use it too much

[Q] P500h V10V, cannot get 3G/Data to work with Gingerbread

Been trying to get my phone to run fully on gingerbread, and have tried the official v20e.kdz flash, as well as Mik_os's CM7, both worked great, and I liked them a lot.
BUT, I can't get my 3G/Data connection to work on either. WiFi works fine, and I can connect to the internet fine that way.
So I am currently flashed back to the gross V10V 2.2.1 Froyo until I can get it figured out. I REALLY want to run CM7, but with no 3G I just can't really use it.
Searches have returned nothing. Any other canadian guys out there with this same problem?

I believe it has something to do with the baseband.

If you want a custom ROM, select one that corresponds to your baseband or switch the baseband. If you do not, you will have no data. That is all to it. End of story.
You can extract the baseband yourself from KDZ archive. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901417 (steps 1-2).
All of this covered in the sticky thread.
Got it. Currently have extracted needed files from the uncompressed dz file for my stock ROM. I will be reuploading CM7 and franco's kernel,(Lots of users seem to have luck with it, and I liked it when I ran it for a day) and then flashing my V10V radio and I will let you know!
Edit:
Wait, CM7 currently has a bug so 3G/Data does not work? Shoot! Or am I fixing this by flashing my stock rom's baseband? Will find out soon enough....
And I admit I'm a bit of a noob, I only started doing this last week. I'm learning though.

No dice. My phone was in its factory state when I began this project. It was rooted, installed AmonRa's custom backup, and I installed DrellisDee's Kernel so I could overclock with 2.2.1 froyo. Was stable at 480/768, but it still wasn't enough.
Nandroid backup, google backup, cleared cache, and dalvik. (Thank your AmonRa!)
Flashed CM7, latest stable release 6.5.7
Flashed franco.Kernel.v1-16082011
Booted up, currently running with no issues. Flashed my V10V baseband using LGMDP v1.5.exe .
No errors, everything went well, battery still at 92%.
Still no internet unless connected to WIFI, Damn. Guess I'm S.O.L. on this one eh?
Thanks for the help guys. Gonna check out some other Ginger ROMs and give them a try to see if I can get ginger to work with my 3G network. Any suggestions? I'm stuck with v10 based ROMs since LG hasn't released any V20 setups for my network.

You can't tell me how you got the phone rooted in the first place can you?
I'm with Koodo and have the Froyo 2.2.1 firmware on there.
I've tried everything I can do to get it rooted, and it just won't!
Gingerbreak says that there is a problem and won't do it.
Superoneclick hangs on step 6 which is mounting the SD card
I tried to grab a v10_G flash which is the telus stock ( I think ) but there was an error while trying to flash with kdz flash ( update error param =2 ).
Can ANYBODY help me to figure this out?
I havd koodo, just last friday I rooted 2 friend's phones with the gingerbreak app from xda thread. I took the second one and at first it didn't work because there were too many dots in the file name, simple as that, took me a while to figure it out, so I renamed to something like gingerbreak1.apk and it worked. For the data not working, just google " koodo apn " then you'll end up with the good apn info wich is simply. " sp.koodo.com " , port = 80, NO proxy as it just slow down the net, the other settings as they already are, 302 and 230 or something like that they come as default near the bottom of apn creation option in mobile options. All other fields leave blank. Hope it works..

Thanks for the post...
I decided to install a different version of gingerbreak, and suddenly everything worked so simply...
I have since installed clockworkmod and have done a full back up.
Then I installed cyanomod and everything is up and going.
I was nervous to flash the google apps, but everything is happy.
Oh ya... I did have to update my apn data to the koodo network. I've tested MMS in and out.
You might want to try Andy's Phoenix rom; the fastest one and amazing statusbar. Some light text issues will be fixed the 20th october update. Beside that, the best for me with franco 2.6.35.14 oct. 2 kernel. Anyway, glad you could make it

[Q] Dell Streak 5 rebooting problems (S.O.S.)

Well I am having the imfamous rebooting problem with my streak 5.
I am running stock olleh 407 with root. I have tried other roms such as Steve's Gingerstreak rom, DSC, Longhorn, MIUI, and always seems to still have the issue with the phone rebooting for no reason, sometimes out of the blue when not even doing anything, most the time when running applications and 99% of the time with games.. I'd love to get this fixed.. simply because I bought it off of craigslist and love this phone, I cannot goto Dell and try to get help because they need to know where the phone was bought from originally which I have no way of finding the info, I wish I could just get a new warrenty(sp?) but they wont help me out..
any clues? even if I got to go back to froyo to make it stop this crap Im willing too..
Model Number:
Dell Streak
Android Version:
2.3.3
Baseband Version:

Kernal Version:
2.6.35.7-perf

Try changing your baseband. The baseband you're using is the beta baseband and that could be the source of your difficulties. I'm surprised however, as I figured 407 would have changed the baseband. Perhaps you're one of the lucky ones to not have the new baseband "stick".
I used to have this problem with resets and no matter what rom i put i got the same result, so by accident i figure it out it was from the back cover, i open up the streak and put something to the senzor so no matter what i do even if i take the cover off the streak is not turning off.
You should shake it and try to hit the back cover but not to hard to damage the streak and see if it is from the cover.
My guess is that the cover is doing that.
my streak restart when i watch youtube video.what can be the problem?Am running a stock rom 407 olleh.
I too use to get random reboots with streakdroid roms and some stock roms. When I installed MIUI 2.4.20 the random reboots stopped.
Im not 100% sure that it was the rom that fixed this but its too much of a coincidence that its the only rom i had no issues with whatsoever.
With every custom rom there is always a detailed guide on the best way to flash to get the best results.
Its absolutely crucial that you follow these guides. It makes a big difference.

where do I download the correct baseband to flash?
nevermind found it.
ok flashing newer baseband.. will update you guys on the reboots.:good:
and so far no reboots! thanks dude.. I hit the thank button for you also.
I follow the directions on the roms to the T but I guess things happen sometimes.
anyways thank you again
While it is certainly not common, it's also not unheard of for a baseband flash to not "take" and have to be reflashed.
I was having the same problem and installed a battery app that reported charge/temp etc. Everything was fine while used for approx 15 mins, but as the temp started to rise thats when rebooting happened. Tried new battery but made no diff, tried a number of roms to no avail.

Thats parts of your problem.
I find that stock roms are totally useless. Thats my opinion.
Yes there are custom roms out there that are still buggy but i find they are all much better that what is offered from stock.
I also find that it necessary to read the whole post before flashing any rom. There are always helpfull hints inside as to how to make your custom rom work without issues.
I sold my dell streak for a htc sensation, I put MIUI and reflashed the DPS1 msnn and it ran like a charm.
How ilr u man pls help ive just rooted my dell streak 5 i wanna get 2.3 rom how do i go about this

your sd card probably gone bad already.. and you may need to reformat it again using sd card adapter ...
however... you need to use streakmod recovery.... if you want to upgrade... i say try DSC 1.0 because all the required file is there at the dev forum...
