Does anyone have there 3g mobile hotspot working?? Like it would work with the DX liberty, fission, and apex roms??? Or maybe one of the new roms has it working???
I've heard that wiring tether works, but not sure his to get it as they pulled it from the app market. Also barnacle should work, and that's on the market.

Depending on your patience, the native hotpot app works fine by turning it on, allowing your wireless device to connect to it, then toggling the radio on / off a few times from the phone settings menu accessed thru the dialer (*#*#4636#*#*). Pins the "paid" data pipeline to your normal 3g stream.

There was a thread about this is the fascinate forums...
Basically, the only way to prevent verizon to figure out that you are teathering is by using a kernel that blocks it.

If they're doing packet inspection, you know how SLOW that would make their network, and how much resources that would take up? Wouldn't be worth it to them. They are most definitely not doing packet inspection. They could possibly suspect something if you have high data usage. But then again, I have high data usage all the time, cause of my job, I run a business, I'm constantly downloading things, sending and receiving text messages through GV and emails, plus I have Google Plus backup all my pics and videos to a private album online. I use able 10-15 GB a month.

I wasn't able to get that wireless tether app to work... or the barnacle thing. It says it's on and everything but I can't see a network being broadcasted, nothing shows up on my website that resembles a phone or open network.

Have you tried the radio toggle? This works for me with the native hotspot app. The packet info issue was something that a vzw tech on the fascinate forums said they COULD do to verify tethering if it was suspected. I was just trying to add that they do have ways to detect it based on what was shared by him. Whether it's practical for them isn't the issue, the point being that no tethering method is completely invisible.

I've read about this problem a lot, I don't think there is a fix.
It would probably require editing the app itself. That's why some apps that originally only worked on wifi were "patched" by people in the community to remove that block and work over 3g/4g.

Hello,
I didn't see a forum for the Razr Maxx, so I'm posting my question here in the Razr forum. On my HTC Incredible, I am able to change the 3G Mobile Hotspot settings by dialing ##778, selecting Edit Mode, entering 000000, opening M.IP Default Profile, and editing the NAI and DUN NAI fields by removing the "dun" from the address. I cannot seem to figure out how to do this on the Razr Maxx. Does anyone have any idea how to do this for the Mobile Hotspot on the Razr/Razr Maxx?

yup. Im rooted but rocking FoxFi. no issues. I was downloading a torrent the other day while tethered, was coming down at 2.7M a second. fixFi RICKS!!!
I have heard of Foxfi, and I will look into that, so thank you for the suggestion. But, I am still interested in the setting that I described for two reasons. First, other Incredible users have reported slow wifi speeds when using a 3rd party app as opposed to Verizon's 3G Mobile Hotspot (or just Mobile Hotspot on the Maxx), although I have not heard anything about speed with a 3rd party app on the Razr Maxx. Second, I am just interested in knowing more about my phone.
Perhaps someone can answer your specific questions about settings, however, I will talk a little more about FoxFi- speeds on 4G are ridiculously fast. I ran FoxFi on my Maxx and my Acer Iconia tablet was getting over 25mbps down speeds and 14mbps up.
It's not a perfect app. Occasionally, you'll have to stop and restart the hotspot to get your device to "see" your Razr, but overall, it's great... and once connected, rock solid.
Additionally, it appears to me that fox fi somehow uses the phones native Hotspot connection but bypasses it. I used to use Wi-fi tether rooted on my last phone and I never saw phones hotspot pop up. But on the RAZR unrooted, I can also affirm that the previously mentioned speeds are real and accurate. The app is great.

Well I just finally rooted a few days ago and installed Wifi Tether and it works right out of the box, but based on recommendations here I decided to try Foxfi and it connected but it had some error in windows (which on the Foxfi page they say to run the internet repair wizard) well I ran the wizard and the problem persisted so instead of trying to trouble shoot I just went the easy way and use Wifi Tether.
I installed Foxfi. The first time I connected to it, I had no internet access. But the second time and since then it has worked fantastically. I am very happy with this solution, and I thank those of you who have suggested the app to me. If anyone has any ideas, it would still be nice, however, to know about the NAI settings and if they're accessible/editable. Just for tinkering's sake.
Does anyone know how foxfi speed compares to native tethering speed that rooted RAZR users might enjoy?

To have a 3g data connection and a wifi connection working simultaneously yet independently of each other?
I want to purchase an air stash wireless media server so I can carry more of my music around with me.
The problem is when this thing is linked to my phone I won't have a 3g connection(because it connects as a wifi network)
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Why do you specifically need 3G when there's wifi around?
There is a way. If I get off work early enough I will see if I can get it changed. Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
Well the airstash has a wifi transmitter to connect to the phone to transfer and stream files, so if I'm not around wifi but want to use that I have to sacrifice a data connection because 3g turns off when connected to wifi
Edit:
Wow thanks, that is incredibly generous.
I don't want to take up a ton of your time so if it isn't too complex I could probably do it if pointed in the right direction.

Why not just use Google music? I think it holds like 20,000 songs, its free, and works on any data connection
I've used Google music, I dedicated it to standout tracks but it has reached its end a while back and my phone is already refined to the point I don't want to move anything off it. I've been using box and dropbox, but my box account if full now too and dropbox is reaching that point in the next few weeks, so I figure the airstash and a 256gb sdxc card should last me a bit longer.
I know there seems like no reason to carry so much music around but once it leaves my phone and goes on my desktop hard drive it'll never be listened to again, essentially a music graveyard, so I try my best to delay the inevitable.

I know there has to be a way, and I think I've seen it before..
The phone is fully capable of running both Wifi and 3G/4G network at the same time, because when you're on WiFi and you send/receive a MMS, then it does upload/download via data.

It would work, but it would sure take you a while to get that working properly..
I would think that you could somehow tweak a file to allow them both since, as I said before, you can be on WiFi and download an MMS, which can go over 4G.
There's gotta be a way to trick android that it's downloading an MMS but it's really connecting you to 4G.
However, I have no idea how to do that, I'm not a developer.
I feel you would need some way of telling each individual application what connection to use in order for this to work right.

But the downside to that is when you actually go to really use a WiFi network, the app will continue to run on Data.

Doesn't putting the phone in hotspot mode access Data and repeat it over Wifi? So isn't the answer to simply put the phone in hotspot mode? I know the phone can still access the data while in hotspot mode, so external devices should also be able to talk to the android device as well; over the wifi correct? Unless there is a build in firewall w/port blocking... but I would put my bets on file sharing ports being open.

Okay to answer all your questions.
1. It can access all sites.
2. Yes tmo apparently detect unpaid tethering via the pc useragent on http sites but since they pry into https as it is a secure protocol, they can't detect those but I just used all the various protocols without any issues.
3. Yes it works via the wifi tether app from the play store, it does work via the default tether app on some devices but the newer devices they set it to check your data plan for hotspot, but the wifi tether app gets around that and works fine and no I didn't modify anything, I'm on the stock apn, etc.
Yes I do have the true unlimited plan as well.

Actually everyone is doing crazy downloading, the thing about the wifi tether third party app is that it shows your device as being the user of the data and not it being tethered the way the on board hot spot option would, that's why I opt for the third party app than just a fix, that way they can't block your tethering since it's your device showing up on the network and not a pc, imo.

So today i set up the fix for tethering that hasoons posted but i did not use it. just set it up only. then right now that I am home from work I am tethering with to my laptop but using the mobile hotspot that comes with the phone. I have the nrg rom stock. I thought that if I used that stock tethering app it wouldnt work? this is weird...
I have AT&T Note with stock ICS (rooted of course). I tried many different tethering apps and so far none of them works. I have tried, for example,
- FoxFi
- Wifi Tether for rooted user 2.3-beta1
I tried to change the configuration, such as these:
- Change Device Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
- Change Setup Method: Netd (master) - DO NOT use Netd-ndc
The problem is that the tethering starts, other device (laptop, tablets, etc.) can see the hotspot network, but it's either:
- No traffic sent
- Network is slow, like 0.1Kbps
I know it's not the Note or the other devices connecting to it, because:
- When tethering is running (FoxFi, Wifi Tether, etc.) I can still browse the Internet from the Note (not from other device) just fine
- All the other devices (laptop, tablets) can connect to the Internet when connected to other Wifi (home network, Clear hotspot, etc.)
So which one works for you?
I'm non rooted ICS and FoxFi has always worked for me. Have you tried the new version? It limits how long free users can use the app (not sure how much) but it might be worth a shot...

Hello, go here: www.foxfi.com/bin
This will download the latest version of Foxfi to your Note. It does state that there are some limits to free usage but I don't know if that means it cuts you off after fifteen minutes or what. I also have a previous apk of Foxfi somewhere in my Note's download folder that doesn't mention a need to upgrade to the paid version.

*Seems I didn't.. don't see tether manager in my list anymore.. I suppose it just works for me..
Say it, Don't spray it.

Freeze/delete tethering manager, then use the system tethering, or use a AOSP ROM, or one with FJMod

Not that lucky; I had an unlimited plan too. AT&T began throttling after unlimited plans went over 3gb. I never did but I knew someone who was throttled. It took two minutes to open a text email.
Don't take this as criticism of AT&T, everyone throttles now except for Sprint. And I've had nothing but great experiences with their phone and data service, customer service, etc. I really like AT&T but didn't have a need for their unlimited plan anymore. I'd rather pay $10 if I go over 3gb than be throttled.

I've been throttled once, and it wasn't that bad - the speed would be normal for the first few moments of a connection and the slow down. So small data transfers were fine, but streaming video etc. was not.

I use the one built into my room on cm10. Works perfect. At&t hasn't throttled me nor have they added a tethering plan. Everything works very perfectly.

That's weird. When I've been throttled, it's never messed with my emails and text messages

Oh man! I just remembered my colleague was on T Mobile. That was insane, render your phone useless throttling. Good to know AT&T leaves some basic functions alone with its throttling. I may be in the minority but I really like AT&T and have always been well served by them.
While a part of me really dislikes the idea of throttling I can understand how some people killed it for us moderate users: another colleague of mine used to stream Netflix all the time, download torrent files and tether to his laptop constantly at home. One month he used more than 80GB.

It's actually 5GB for our LTE Notes. The older 3G plans are 3GB. Personally I don't want to pay another dime, and I rarely go over about 3.5-4GB/month, but the one time I did, I'm glad I still had data without having to pay another $10 just to get a few MB additional (I barely went over).
