[Q] Mounting SD while in charge only - HTC EVO 3D

Every single time i plug my phone into the computer it goes straight to mounting the sd card to my computer regardless what setting i have installed. i thought that after i did a custom rom it might fix it but still every time it mounts.
i have it set to default charge
i have to switch it into mount ...(stays mounted no change)
then switch it to charge then it will unmount and charge only
i have changed the setting for default and rebooted several times with no luck i haven't been able to find anything or anyone else with this problem so i don't know what i should try next its not a major issue but it is irritating to say the least so if anyone could help i would be grateful.

[Q] Can not mount external SD card

I have rooted my phone using TGA_Gunnman's one-click method.....everything was great - I am pretty sure my phones everyday performance is better now as a result. Of course, all the awesome things I can do now that I have root, make the phone that much better!
Yesterday, after no mods or changes my SD card became nor recognized by the phone. I get an error that the "Mount Point is absent or incorrect. Please unplug USB and try again." Of course I have tried unplugging, restarting, fixing permissions, unrooting, putting in a different SD card, nothing...NO access to SD. I am able to access the SD card from a computer so pretty sure its not the card.
I have searched and searched and searched the forums...I have not found anyone having a similar problem.
Does anyone have any suggested fix....or am I destined to return this handset for a dif one?
Thanks for any and all help.
kstar
So, due to lack of response, I can only assume the phone is faulty, and I will be heading to t-mobile store today.
Or am I really that slow and it is totally obvious?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
did you try restoring the phone to factory settings?
Thanks for the suggestion....but a factory reset did not fix the problem.
I got that EXACT same error yesterday while I was tinkering trying to rename the memory card on the computer and phone. I unmounted it and then it started giving me this error. I DID fix it though I'm not sure WHICH one of the things I did fixed it so I will list everything I did while trying to lol.
1. Remove the card from the phone as it is powered on. Wait a few seconds and re-insert it. See if problem persists.
2. Power down phone, remove memory card. Power back on (without the card). Insert the memory card. See if problem persists.
3. With the phone and card in, attempt to connect to a computer in all 3 modes (Storage, Media Player, etc). See if it still can't mount it after you disconnect from the computer.
4. (I think this may have fixed it but not sure). With the phone on and card in, go into setting-->Applications-->Development-->USB Debugging. CHECK the box "USB debugging". Now connect the phone to your computer. It will warn you its in debugging mode, click ok. Open the notification menu on top when its connected (the one that slides down from top) and MOUNT the memory card + phone memory. Your computer should now recognize 2 new drives. Phone memory and the memory card. After this, disconnect the phone and it SHOULD be able to find the memory card and mount it CORRECTLY, fixing your problem for good.
Let me know if all of these don't work and I'll think if I missed something that I may have done while trying to fix it. It's not your memory card or the phone itself. It's the software which bugged. I wouldn't recommend you return it at all since its not faulty. The new one will do the same.
PS: If NOTHING works and I can't think of the thing that fixed mine, there IS something that WILL fix it guaranteed though I only recommend you do that as a last resort. If you reflash the phone to a different ROM, it will be fixed since the bug is in the software. There is the stock T-Mobile ROM provided on these forums somewhere if you want the same ROM (or as close to it as possible) that came with the phone (aka...as you got it out the box). Otherwise, you can flash into some custom rom (likely having some improvements too). All up to you. Though I only would recommend this if you REALLY have no other option.
Thank you - none of those options helped. I am not able to see the phone memory either. In other words, even when I have it plugged in to the computer and tell it to mount memory to the computer, no drive shows up. So I am unable to access any storage on the phone.
Why would this software issue just show up out of no where? I have had the phone since day 1......
Thank you!!!
Hmm...I was able to see the phone memory at least. Are you sure your phone doesn't even detect the phone memory? Cause that is quite odd. I remember my phone did not detect ANY memory card all the while giving me that message but it DID find its phone memory and could use that. Idk. I played with my phone an a USB cable for half an hour panicked that I did something to my phone or memory card till it finally worked. Your issue MAY be different though. In either case, I don't seem to remember anything else I did with it (maybe combination of those things I was listing? idk). Furthermore your issue may be different, even if related so I suppose start looking into the flashing process. You will need to flash if you want to return it anyway is my guess. So might as well.
I suggest you start looking here:

It's all the Roms for the Vibrant up to date. You will need Clockwork recovery and Odin to flash. The list has the official Tmobile ROM that your phone was shipped with. You can try that. It will return it to FULL stock, making it returnable and very likely fixing it. But if you're feeling adventurous you can try the custom ROMs.
Thanks for all your help - I ended up returning it b/c I didn't have the time to deal with it and have now run into a new problem of apps not installing from the market. They actually install for the first five minutes after wiping the phone, but then the installing was unsuccessful. I got two different replacements today and a new sim card, spent half my afternoon on the phone with 611...still no apps.....
Edit: found the fix for inability to download apps
settings>applications>manage applications>menu>filter, all>download manage>clear data
Of course, on my third vibrant and this is the only one with the menu button lag......i will be patient.....
I just had exactly the same problem with my Galaxy S. The problem was, My internal phone memory was unmounted after flashing a new firmware. Once I mounted it, it worked.
Menu > Settings > SD Card and Phone Storage > Mount SD Card (under Internal SD Card)
This mounted both internal and external cards and I'm now good to go!!
I have this exact same error right now and nothing is working.
Also, I do not have the option of returning the phone because it was a private sale and i bought the phone off of someone. He has the receipt but I wonder what I can do since he paid for it under his credit card and its in his name?
tks }{Alienz}{,
I got this can not mount external sd card message and following your step 2, it`s working now! just to remember, step 2 is:
2. Power down phone, remove memory card. Power back on (without the card). Insert the memory card.

Samsung vibrant unrooted yet =]
I had the same problem and #2 worked for me as well. Thank you!
I have a similar problem. I flashed axura and since then when I plug in my phone It never gives me the option to mount my phone. Has anyone found a fix for this?
- took the longest time to fix this. anyone having the same problem. i fixed it by getting a samsung usb cord. for whatever reason my phone wouldnt realize it was connected to the computer without it

Hop that helps somone out
i find that the answer to most solutions is the top thread in this forum.
Odin + 512.pit + t959UVJFD.tar
go back to stock jfd build 2.1

Argh... 2nd time this happened.

I dont really know what happened to the phone but for some reason, USB debugging and usb mass storage mounting has been disabled. It works fine in all other aspects except these two.
The first time it happened, it was fresh from a repair for not turning on anymore... That was easily fixed by LG within a day. The tech dude said something about "software upgrading".
The second time it happened, i was installing new apps straight to the SD and it wouldnt finish for like 10 minutes. So i turned it off and on again. Now everything found on my SD card wouldnt load and Settings would force close on me when I try to make it show all the apps on my phone.
I was wondering if this is a problem with apps2sd which I used... Maybe my memory card is too slow (class2) for the phone to install directly to it. Does anyone know what happened?
Hello
I used app2sd and my phone rebooted for no reason. Now after uninstalling it works fine. The unmount issue is common to P500. Probably it will be fixed on Gingerbread firmware.
So I'll have to hold off on customizing my phone until Gingerbread? =c
Guess I'll have to stick to phone memory for the apps not movable to the Sd on their own...
Also, I believe my problem goes beyond just the unmounting issue... I'll try to have the phone reformat the card when I get it back (soon I hope... I already sent it to LG)
It wouldnt show me that USB debugging and mass storage mounting is on even though those are checked on the Settings screen. When I connected the USB cable before with those settings on, there would be 2 icons on the notification bar that indicates that the two are working. I dont get those 2 icons now...
I'll try to have FroYo move the apps to SD after installing to phone memory when I get it back. Maybe that will solve the "taking forever to install" issue.
I hope the SD card reformatting by the phone would solve the slow SD card loading issue.
Which would leave the USB debugging and mass storage mounting issue... T__T
I don't really have the sudden SD card unmounting problem....

How do I remount the SD?

When I plug my Atrix into a device (computer, car, etc) via USB, the SD card auto-mounts. I would like to be able to adjust when it mounts but the auto-mount isn't a huge problem. My issue is that when I unplug the phone from a device the SD card doesn't automatically remount.
Is there a way to set up the SD card to automatically remount? Is there a manual way to remount besides restarting the phone?

Did u try mounting in Settings --> SD card and storage
Yes, when I go to that menu it says, "Insert an SD card to mount". I'm not able to click "mount" because it is grayed out with the above message on it.
Any other ideas?
When u plug your phone in, there should be a USB icon @ the top of the screen. Pull that down, and select 'Do Nothing' that should clear up your problem. Always make sure you do this before unplugging your phone if it mounts the SDCard to avoid corrupting the data. Let me know if this fixed your problem.
I have the same exact issue. Selecting "None" for usb mode does nothing for me either. I have to reboot my phone just to get the SD Card and Internal storage to re-mount.
I don't know if this is related but I am also running ADEO ROM.

I'm rooted but running stock otherwise.
Selecting "none" just affects the phone's internal storage, not the SD card. Also, whenever i plug my phone into any device it automounts the SD, I'm never given an option. It is really frustrating when I just want to charge via USB and not mount my SD card.
Any other ideas? Is there an app that would solve this?
EDIT: I'm also having an issue where my PC won't let me "eject" the internal storage of the phone or the storage on the SD (drives F and G) so I have no choice but to just unplug it.
I should add that with my case my phone unmounts internal storage AND the sd card. It's to the point to where I am using adbWireless in order to push or run any other commands needed for adb.

Yeah you and I are having the exact same problems. This is really aggravating. However, I might have found a solution. In the app switchpro, you can set one of the controls (icons) to be "media remount". I have had soem limited success with it. Try it out yourself and let me know if it fixes the problem.
Thanks
I'm having the same problem. I downloaded the SwitchPro app and used the toggle mount/unmout successfully, so i don't have to restart the phone. It's a shame I had to buy an app to fix a problem with a new phone. I believe the first day of owning the phone I may have unplugged from the cpu while in media link mode for the usb connection, but since then I have it set to "none".
I am not rooted, nor am I running adeo rom as mentioned above.

OK I'm glad we've found a fix of sorts at least.
That reload media widget works for my music player. Unfortunately, my widgets (dependent on teh SD card for skins) don't reload properly liek the rest of my media does. I'm still stuck powering on and powering off every time i unplug from a device.
SD Card problem
I think I have the opposite problem. I just rooted using aRoot. Now, when plugging the phone into my computer using a USB cable, the phone says the SD card is ready to be removed. And the Media Link can't read it either. Once I unplug the phone from the computer, the SD card is able to be used by the phone.
Any ideas?

My problems started after I used aRoot as well. Unfortunately, I never really found a solutions. I've just been restarting my phone whenever i plug it in. In your case, have you tried switching it into mass storage mode after plugging it in?

I've tried every setting with no luck. All I wanted to do is add some music to my SD card. So I ended up taking the card out of the phone and inserting it directly into my computer in order to add the music. Not the best solution to the problem.
No definitely not. At least the files get transferred faster that way

[Q] Internal storage formatting itself after reboot?

Every now and again when I reboot the phone, my Internal Storage seems to be formatted. It's really starting to become a nuisance. I am on rooted on U4_2.1.1 - anyone else experiencing this issue?
Self bump...I found that if I reboot the phone in adb (using the reboot command) it formats my internal storage almost every time. I'm trying to isolate other causes while I am at it...
Bump, I also have this issue and it is extremely frustrating!!!
This happened to me when I rooted mine yesterday too, and this is my first post yay.
Adam
Hi,
Do a full format in Windows. Connect the phone in use storage mode to a pc, right click on the drive and select format, default settings, turn off quick format.
This happens when running Gingerbreak to root your phone.
Cheers!
So I backed up everything and am now formatting it but did I do something wrong wail using gingerbreak because I saw no where this could happen, just want to know what I did wrong.
Adam
hi,
This is what I am guessing happens: In order to get root, Gingerbreak hacks into the volume daemon (the android bit that knows about inserting and removing sdcards). So you get root but it's like you pulled the plug on your computer while your hard drive was accessing data, you need to do a full format to avoid glitches. At boot android checks volumes to make sure they are not corrupt, that they are 'checked' that they are fully synced and closed out before the power was turned off. If there are any problems, either a repair is attempted or a format is done, depending on the phone/firmware. So, after using Gingerbreak to root, there are some issues with the format of the internal memory, once you start filling it up, you get errors when it runs across a bad patch of the format. So, even though it may look like the drive has been formatted and empty, you still need to do a full format from a pc to clean up the mess. I would recommend both the internal memory and any external sd-cards be formatted properly afterward.
You'd need to talk to the author(s) of Gingerbreak to get more of a breakdown on what happens.
Cheers!
Atrix internal storage format after boot
I've the same problem using Atrix when reboot...
The internal storage will format after every reboot...
And my Atrix is new phone, that not root before...
I've try to format storage within phone format tool.
It success to stop the format after reboot.
But, I when put the sdcard into the phone, the reboot will format the phone, again...
Anyone can help////
wow thanks for the break down man really appreciate it.
Adam
I have this problem, but cannot get the computer to see the phone as drives to format. Is there any other way of doing this?

Do you have it set to Mass Storage under USB Settings when you have it connected?
Do you have the proper drivers installed?
I had this problem too. But even trying full format using pc, it still wouldn't help. I even did a full wipe on my whole phone.

Possible bad SD card?

My wife's phone has been having a weird issue as of late. the phone thinks that it is connected via USB cable even though it is not. I was doing some testing this am and noticed that if I pull the SD card out it drops the USB icon and goes normal. Is it possibly a just a bad SD card? I was going to reformat it and see what happens. Just wondering if anyone had seen this type of issue possibly resulting in the issue I am seeing. Thanks!
Shawn
Have you tried unmounting and remounting the sd card in settings?
It sounds like the phone is stuck in USB Mass Storage Mode for some reason. Maybe plugging the phone in to your comp and turning that on and off may reset it too.
Also, is the phone rooted?
Also may be a silly question but, Have you tried rebooting it?
Just asking
Booting into cwm, clearing cache/devlik, going into "mounts and Storage" and making sure that dbdata was mounted, then repairing permissions took care of the problem for good for me.
