You got one of only 2 options right now.
1. Find a PC somewhere and use that.
2. Install Windows via Bootcamp on the Mac.
Running any of these s-off tools is sketchy via a Virtual Machine like Parallels or Fusion. Those installs don't access the hardware right.
Better option - ubuntu live cd or install

Is it possible to root my Eris with Ubuntu?

Rooting is not dependant of the OS.
I use ubuntu.

You should probably choose a different rom for step 3.
You will have to modify step 2 a little but it should be easy if you have a basic understanding of linux.
Thank You!!
I was able to root no probs..
Installed Evil Eris 2.0 ...2.01
Internet sharing is compatible with Network manager. Way better than BBtether with my old Blackberry. I am one happy camper!
Hey guys, I'm not so new around here, I have trolled for a bit, not stealing stories, just reading and learning. I know that you cannot at present time go to root from leak, that you can't roll back from leak to 1.5. Or make the phone turn into a motodroid. My question is this. I just got a new Eris today, my last one, which was leaked, seemed to have usb port problems in the last few hours, so I am at 1.5 again, I am going to root this time, now.... should I download the 2.1 OTA update that VZW is offering me right now and then root, or root right off the bat?
OTA has the same features as leak v3. just root and get an awesome Rom.

I didn't know if there would be a reason for me to OTA before rooting, such as radios and stuff like that

ROOT!! You can download the latest radio from the OTA from this forum and flash it. There is no benefit from doing the OTA first.
I'm trying to use EMA and it isn't working, Windows 7. When it comes to restarting the phone it isn't finding pb000img.zip
edit--- nm I figured out what I was doing wrong, I had changed the sdcard to disk drive instead of leaving it at charge only r00ting now
well for the ema, for support go to my thread, or hop in our irc server. info at bottom of signature.
but for the app, the phone never needs to be out of charge only mode. make sure the .exe and the ema_files folder are at the root of your c:\ drive
Eclips3 you did a great job on that program. Im rooted and even learning the sdk some. I appreciate this.

Hey guys,
I have a question about heimdall. Normally I would use win7 but I had some problems with my computer so I must intall a new os. I'm not at home until August so I could just install a linux.
I have now problems to configurate heimdall for my sgs2 but would really like to flash the angelom rom.
Can be someone so friendly to post a step by step instructions for ultra noobs? (I'm even to stupid to open the rules.b folder as sudo). I would be very pleased about such an instruction. The stock rom drives me crazy.
Thank you anyway

Here's a link to the official Linux README.
Heimdall didn't support the Galaxy S II until some time in the last 24 hours which was when I started publishing 1.2.0 updates. The latest Heimdall 1.2.0 should hopefully function perfectly with Galaxy S II devices.
Thx mate I will try it tomorrow.

I updated my firmware, so this caused the only rooting guide on mac being non functioning for me. so, is there any solution. I tried using cross0ver to make Hasoon's root kit work, but it doesn't. Any solutions?
Thanks guys,

Is there any way to emulate an android froyo with normal kernel and everything a normal android phone has? Including a market and recovery mode. I want this mainly because I feel terrified by the thought that I might brick my phone flashing a custom rom and I am a beginner so I never tried anything complicated with it. So before I try anything over my phone I want to try this on an emulated phone. Thanks in advance :good:

If you mean on PC then just search on google "android for PC" and there are many tutorials using VirtualBox. I myself have tried it out and work well to some degree

I installed Android x86 to a virtual machine but I still fail to catch how to boot into recovery mode and also how to transfer files from my pc to the fake sd card.
You can't emulate your device inside a computer as far as I know. Best thing to do would be just to read add much as you can and familiarize yourself with the process. What phone do you have ?

Your quite lucky with that phone as it accepts custom updates without being signed my Samsung.
I've had a quick look at the install procedure and can pretty much guarantee if you can read English you won't brick your phone. Its that easy

I don't know about the boot into recover mode but to transfer files to fake sd card if i remember right you transfer it via the windows cmd, i cant remember the process as this was a while for me. Search Buildroid for VirtualBox on google and on their site scroll down and you will see the process. This is just to test android and other apps etc but not sure this is what you looking for. As far as emulate you device hardware, i don't thing it is possible to on PC
