I am in a heavy VZW 3G area and all day today I have only gotten 1X on my phone. A couple times I had 3G for a few seconds but then it would either go back to 1X or just show the signal bars with no notification of what network you are connected to (what the signal icon looks like when you are connected to wifi)
I did a full wipe and reinstall of my rom and even reinstalled the radio again in bootloader (the latest 7/8/11 OTA radio) and still only get 1X at best.........
I'm hoping its just the area here and not my phone...........???
Please use search.
Its probly fine. Can you go online and browse alright? If so, its fine. 1x is for voice, so its always going to be "on" persay...

check your radio toggle settings ie - where
you toggle 3g/4g radio on/off.
- check and see if your radio is set to:
"CDMA auto (PRL)"
i had the exact same issue and come to find
out I had mine set to "CDMA only"
Also make sure your battery door is completely on
wow so......last night and today
I'm experiencing the same problem now too!
I no longer see 3g at all. just the bars
i have:
- flashed to different backup
- pulled battery & sim
- checked battery installed correctly
- checked radio was on cdma prl
and still nothing
dial ##778# from your phone... Go to edit mode, go to "Modem" and change modem from whatever it is one to "RevA" and then reboot. That should fix the issue.

For the last three days I have have little to no data connection. Phone calls and text messages work and i can connect over Wifi.
I called Verizon and they have had similar reports in Southern California, but not necessarily in my area. I have talked with other TBolt owners who have no problem.
So here's the technical side of things: I was running BAMF 1.6 when the problem started, so I flashed CM7 and the 2.5 radio but the problem persisted. I have the phone set to CDMA auto (PRL). [I don't have 4G in my area] Ping tests fail..
I don't really know what I am looking for, hopefully confirmation that this must be a problem from Verizon, and that I can expect this to correct itself.
Any insight would be appreciated.
UPDATE: I have replaced the MR2.5 radio with the MR2 as well as a different kernal to no avail.
I have reset all the APNs, and have selected every reasonable combination of network mode and data options. nothing.
Is this possible a hardware issue? Can a 3G antenna be broken but still be able send and receive phone calls and SMS ? (MMS seems to work as well)
damn first world problems...
try turning off the radio
dial *#*#4636#*#*
Select phone info
scroll down you will see a button that says Turn off radio
Hit that and wait for it to update and wait for your signal bar to get an X. Then turn it back on. I have had the same issue before and this always works for me.
I have tried turning the radio on and off multiple times. I have even tried turning data off and then turning the radio off and on.
but I thank you for the suggestion.
use his method not the lte off/on or a tool kit

I've been working on this issue for a little over 24 hours now and haven't had any luck. Yesterday I toggled off my 4g using the menu that loads after entering *#*#4636#*#* into the dialer (i was trying to conserve battery life, but only briefly). I was running SHIFTAO5P at the time and for the life of me I cannot find the setting to re-enable the CDMA/LTE connection. When I first noticed the problem I decided, for some unknown reason, to reflash SHIFT and proceeded to effectively knee-cap my phone. It wouldn't boot so I flashed an old copy of BAMF2.0. Phone booted but only 3g was available. I tried two other ROMs in the hopes of fixing it, but to no avail. I finally flashed back to ****AO5P and still had the issue. I just finished flashing a new kernel and have tried 4 different radios. Still only getting 3g. Anybody have any ideas? FYI with each rom flash a full wipe WAS completed.
This thread can be disregarded. I finally just fixed it, albeit by accident. In the phone settings I had chosen every single option available and tested them out but I guess I finally got the order right. I guess if anyone else ever has this issue you can try this:
1)Enter the Phone Info menu via LTE Toggle or *#*#4636#*#*
2)Change to CDMA Only ( I got a force close of Phone.apk at this point but I went with it
3)Enter back into the Phone Info menu and you'll notice the selection has changed to "unknown"
4)Turn off the radio
5)Turn the radio back on.
6)4g connects
Ok, first off I've searched many of the data connection issue threads out there but nothing seems to apply to my situation.
I'm having a problem where my data will disconnect whenever i receive/make a call and/or send/receive a text message. About 1-2min after the call has ended data will reconnect, if I toggle airplane mode data will reconnect a bit quicker.
I'm using a Bell Atrix, unlocked running Turl's CM9 from the below thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500535
I've had the phone for a year running the stock 2.2 then 2.3.4 then 2.3.6 and never had any problems until I unlocked the bootloader and installed CM9 a couple days ago.

You sure you're not in an EDGE/GPRS area? You can only have data during phone calls on 3G/HSPA+.
Edit: To verify this, go to Settings > About phone > Status and look at what it says for Mobile Network Type.

System settings/about phone/status/Mobile network type is :"HSPA:11"
I'm in a HSPA+ area, same location I've been using the phone since I bought it a year ago which is in the city core
ok, after a bit more trial and error I haven't been able to solve the problem but I have been able to narrow it down. As it turns out when GPS activates my connection will disconnect for the 1-2min as per above.
My workaround was just to disable GPS for the time being, but this isn't exactly a solution, if anyone has any advise it would be very much appreciated.

Remove multiple APNs. This happened with my old Desire Z. Whenever the GPS is on, data disconnects. Deleting unused APNs fixed this.
hmm, I've never deleted an APN before, if I do this will the network automatically reselect ones for me?
Don't delete everything, just delete what's not needed. The APN that's in use has a selected radiobutton at the right side. Leave that and the MMS one alone, delete the others.
I just deleted one of my two apns, then tested internet and a voice call which both still work, I turned GPS on and opened maps, I get the gps icon on the notification bar but it isn't blinking(also my network connection reset again), then I tried GPS test and again the gps icon at the top isn't blinking like it used to(it has the icon but it's hollow, i.e. no dot on the inside of it blinking) though my network connection didnt' reset this time at least.
I'm about ready to just chalk this up to CM9 on the Atrix just not working right because its unofficial and lacking proper drivers.
GPS icon in status bar does not blink when searching in ICS. You get a blank crosshair when it's searching for a signal, and a filled crosshair once it gets a lock.

ok so I tried turning gps on and running gps test, I let it go for 20min and it didn't pick up a single satellite(this is outside)
Try clearing agps data.

Thanks for the advise, I downloaded "GPS Status & Toolbox" from the market and used it to clear my A-GPS data, this seems to have solved the problem of my network disconnecting, however I'm still unable to get any satellites to show up in GPS test(yes GPS is turned on).
Any thoughts?
I currently use cm10 as my dd. Flashed back to Sense (meanrom) to do a ##3282# > data profile > restore in an attempt to fix some minor 3G issues. After restoring and rebooting, the hands free activation never started. Tried a manual profile and prl update with little luck. Currently, I have no 3G signal. I was able to get 3G back very temporarily after doing a ##72786# >menu > reset; however, it would only work in LTE/CDMA mode and would usually drop-off very quickly. Tried reverting back to AOSP and data was still gone. Has anyone experienced this? Is there something else that Sprint has to do on their end?
I had the same problem no 3g for a week then I went to a repair sprint center, the guy said it was the phone wish I had uprooted before going in. He did all the firmware update and nothing, knew it was the phone cauz i did the ##786# and was not doing anything because I had no data. Anyway sprint gave me a new one for 35$.which suck because came with the new hboot 1.15.

Here are a couple more observations. On a sense ROM, I can get 3G as long as I keep it on LTE/CDMA and not CDMA only. Once i switch it, it immediately disconnects. When I switch over to CM10 I get no 3G at all regardless if I am using LTE/CDMA/EvDo or CDMA/EvDo auto. Also, when I am connected to my airave I am unable to get any type of 3G regardless of the mode that I am on. Is there a setting within "data profile" that is preventing me from connecting to "cdma only"?
Tried two additional things with no success - 1. Switched to cdma only and tried updating profile. 2. ##72786# to reset data.
There shouldn't be an issue with cmx other then having to switch to CDMA/auto. Try switching to CDMA auto and immediately reboot the phone and let it just sit for about 5-10 minutes it sounds bad but its not these are nighties and it will be fixed soon enough
Is the active profile set on 1? I had the same problem, and I was able to get data back by doing a profile update over WiFi..

you sir fixed my issue...thank you!!!! Hit a roadblock with a "vDM stopped unexpectedly" error which prevented me from updating profile. Flashed a nandroid, changed data profile to 1, updated profile over wifi and it worked. Can switch between cdma and lte without a problem. Flashed CMX again and 3G connected right away. Thanks again!
I am new to root and ROMs so perhaps I overlooked a setting.
I just rooted my phone and flashed CM 10.2 a few days ago and I cannot get 4G anymore. I can only get 3G. I have tried a few fixes like dialing *#*#4636#*#* and adjusting the APN settings but nothing worked. I have the LTE button ON and I am wondering if I am still getting 4G because I have LTE on and it's just showing 3G. But I don't think that's the case.
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!

reflash stock rom. make sure you have 4g. flash the vram3c radio then flash cm10.2 rom. you should have no problems with 4g after that.
I will try that. Thanks!

I tried flashing the radio and CM again and sometimes 4G comes up for a few minutes and goes back to 1X. This happens where I have gotten 4G before. Maybe the radio isn't as strong?

My personal experience, living in a fringe signal area, is that AOSP roms just don't have as strong a signal as TW roms (it presumably has to do with how the RIL had to be hacked/reverse-engineered to work for AOSP). I would prefer running AOSP, but unfortunately in my experience on my S3 and Note2, where I am located on the fringe of full 4G coverage areas, I have the same issues as you: on TW, full, fast, 4G; on AOSP, very obviously slow 3G or 1X.
Edit to say I've only tried 4.2.2 ROMs, haven't tried the 4.3 ones yet, so if I'm handing out wrong/outdated info, I'd love to be corrected.
I am now running a stock 4.1.2 ROM and still cannot get 4G. I now for some reason can't even dial *#*#4636#*#*. When I try it just says "Welcome to Verizon Wireless, this call cannot be completed as dialed." Anyway to get that number to work so I can check my networks again?

Try going into settings and factory reset phone now. If that doesnt work, reboot into stock recovery and factory reset from there and reboot. That seems to restore signal for those of us that got stuck in roaming mode from the Carbon thread. Might help your problem too
So I decided to re-flash CyanogenMod 10.1, adjusted the APN settings again, and I have 2 bars of 4G right now. Usually 4G will flash a couple times and change to 3G, but it is staying 4G, so hopefully it stays that way!
Well it stayed 4G for a bit until I turned WiFi on. The moment I turned it on, my 4G went to 3G. I turned WiFi off and I still have 3G. Anyone know what would cause this?
EDIT: My network type shows eHRPD with 3G, where as when I had 4G (before I turned my WiFi on) it showed LTE. If this helps any.

Where do you live, i know the mid Circle drive all the way over across platted to the airport are just dead zones. I lived on Verde drive and rarely had good signal, then when i moved up circle behind the bowling alley i never had a good signal. Just something about the antennae in that area. T-mo is a complete bust in that area. But i'm sure you probably all the way over on the Nevada side completely making what i said irrelevant.

Do a search on towers in your areas. If I remember correctly the closest tower to you in right by the interstate by the new (now not so new) MCD's in Security. That tower had alot of problems in the area past the Olympics complex all the way back to Peterson because of the radio towers for the Jets. I have been gone for almost 3 yrs so don't take what i say as truth tho. Just how it was when i was there.

I've had that problem before. .I used a mod like this.
This mod is from DroidXcon, Try this and hopefully it will work. (make a backup of your buld.prop first)
Instructions:
1)Go to market install BuildProp Editor
2)Once installed find and open Build Prop Editor
3)Hit the menu button and select Edit
4)Scroll to the bottom of screen and add the following lines
Code:
ril.sales_code=LOL
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
5)Hit the save button at the top right hand corner of the screen(looks like a disk)
6)Once this is done saving restart the phone
7)After restarting go to Settings>More Settings>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names>Menu Button>+ New APN
8)Add desired carriers APN info, when finished hit menu button and save
9)Power down and change to your desired SIM card if you hadn't already done so
10)Power back on and go to Settings>More Settings>Mobile Networks> Access Point Names (if done properly you should see the APN data you entered for your respective carrier).
11)Select the respective APN listing and then you should have working data

Bump... also having this issue. Trying CM 10.2 for the first time since August. It had Bluetooth issues back then, so I've been running Bean's ROM until yesterday. Can't get 4G serivce in what is absolutely a saturated 4G area...
Was able to fix the issue by wiping the phone completely (including internal storage!), installing Bean's ROM, doing a factory reset, then coming back.
FWIW I always wipe internal storage when going back and forth between 4.1 and 4.2+ roms, seems to alleviate any SD card issues that can arise from the changes to filesystem in 4.2.
