Try reinstalling it or using a diff one. Wifi tether app been working nice for me.
You may need to reinstall. Make sure you're always downloading from a good source too. I recommend getting it from microscopes as P3Droid makes sure those are the newest current files.

I know this sounds unlikely but try restarting your router. Some people had this issue in a test run and restarting the router actually helped them.
Thanks for the insight I will try suggestions and with post with results. Love this forum!
Update: after deciding I didn't want to go through the process of ref lashing this morning I restarted the router and the phone is connected! Thanks for the help everybody!

When samsung finally releases the source code to the official froyo update and our Devs make one of their stunning custom roms does this mean my wifi connection will finally work again?? It never worked with any custom rom out there and I tried several. Only with the stock eclair rom would it work. Annoying but luckily I didn't need it often

It might be your router thats the issue. I have never had any trouble connecting to any wifi spots whether it be at my house our anywhere else.

That's what's weird about. I can connect to my router on stock rom. Just did last night. Then flashed bionix(never worked with any rom) and now I can't connect to my router. But the other day I was running nero and was able to connect to mcdonalds free wifi. So now im confused. Its something with the combination of my router and custom roms cuz stock rom works fine.

I have used a dozen different roms and have never once had a wifi problem. I cant imagine what the problem is, but you have one on your side.
Im boggled. I have no clue what to do.

Or if this doesn't work, set up a static ip on your phone: menu>settings>wireless> wifi> press menu softkey> advanced> Check static ip and set it according to your router.

The deleting of the two files didn't work for me either. Actually the second file (dhcp_list) wasn't even in my files. Only the first. When I try and connect I don't even get to the 'obtaining ip address'. It just says connecting then says disconnected. It loops saying that. Thanks for the info tho guys

Hi guys,
Im trying to help a friend, He has the Verizon Samsung Fascinate, the phone is rooted, has super user. I Dl'd and installed the Android wifi tether 2.07apk from the google dev site. started up the app. started tether without issue, looked on my Toshiba Thrive Tablet, found the android tether wifi, tried to connect and message pops up on my tablet stating something about adhoc is not supported.
I have a Droid Incredible running Nil's sense 3.5 rom and have the same android tether app, I can start up tethering, turn tethering on, connect and surf the web on my tablet, with no mention of the adhoc compatibility thing.
Im not up on Samsung devices, I have always had HTC phones. So im not sure if this a Samsung issue or what.
I compared his tether app settings to mine and both are the same.
Im at a loss here and could really use some advice about how to fix the issue.
Thanks
Hitch
Try downloading the newer version 3 beta 6 from here http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...tail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta6.apk&can=2&q=
Be sure to go into settings and change device-profile to samsung fascinate.
It may work with that version...

Thanks for moving the thread, I had posted another topic in the Q&A.
The good news is 96 people have read the post, the bad news is not one person posted any ideas, This usually happens when you cannot post in the rooted section.
Still hoping someone has some ideas to help out.

Which rom is installed? Is it just stock Touchwiz with root? I ask because if your friend is willing to try CM7, the built-in tethering works beautifully.

its called Evil Fascinate from the samsung galaxy forums. I told him he needs to start getting his roms from here, he just rooted for the first and has a lot to learn.
I know he likes roms that are really themed, If you any suggestions for a stable, themed rom that has tether baked in I will flash it for him and see if he likes it.
Thanks

can't he just download opengarden tether or barnicle tether from market or am I missing something?

I have tried barnicle, but We get the same message when trying to connect from our tablet to the phone (AdHoc is not supported) and it wont connect, no matter what tether app I try I get the AdHoc not supported message.
I dont get this message when tethering my tablet to my Droid Incredible.
Thats why I was thinking it had to do with Samsung firmware, but I really have no idea and Im hoping that you Samsung guys can get my friend fixed up.
An easier question might be "what tether app do you use on your Fascinate"
Hitch
I use open garden, but I have never tried tethering to a tablet...only pc's.
Meh, easy fix for the ad-hoc thing. In wifi tether (I use pre10, 6 should work) go to settings, set your device profile to Google NexusOne and your setup method to Netd (master) and it will run in infrastructure mode and run fine. Tablets will connect and receive internet.
I'm running shostock2 version 3.0.5 and my wifi is refusing to turn on..please help me to get it back to work.thanx.

Another wifi issue...
I believe the issue is resolved in SEVERAL other threads.
Search.
[EDIT] Also, what have you done to try and rectify this issue? Did you lick the usb port? How about sniffing the screen? Did you try that? ... Dalvik wipe might help.

Try flashing a different kernel. If you are using the zedomax kernel form galaxys2root.com that is your problem.
I had the same problem just do a wipe and redo the flash. Try aokp ROM I moved from shostock to aokp.

No..not zedomax kernal..i tried flashing to stock rom and stock kernal as well..when im in stock 2.3.4 with stock kernal wifi turns on.scans for a few seconds and then switch itself off without finding any wifi network..tried flashing entropy and siah kernals both..both behave the same way that stock does.so i again switched back to shostock v2.There wifi does not turn on at all..icon goes into a light grey(in the settings menu)..thats it and no wifi.

Do you have any other devices running off your wifi? does it even work?
either your doing something seriously wrong with the flashing proccess, your wifi is broke, or your phone is broke.
Definitely try rebooting your modem/router.

Even if other devices work on your router, you shouldn't count that out. I had a ton of wifi problems on my dinc2 but my desktop and laptop connected to my wifi just fine. I finally rebooted it and it fixed the wifi issues on my phone. Another time all it took was changing the broadcast channel on my router. It's worth a shot since it's easier than sending the phone back.

I have also had problems like this. Have you tried it on other WiFi networks? If it acts the same on other WiFi networks I think you phone's WiFi is dead.

Good point there. My router is actually on its way out and requires rebooting every now and then for certain devices to connect. I have my phone, laptop, kindle, and a PS3. randomly they will have trouble connecting, but wifi will never turn itself off on my phone
Check this post out. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731802
The guy used some app from the play store to fix his WiFi.
ok..im still tryimg to figure out what is causing this issue..
After installing stock 2.3.4 my wifi turns on.Scans for few seconds and turns off by itself. If i enter the menu i get when i dial *#*#4636#*#* during this period and check status
wi-fi state shows enabled
but
Supplicant status shows nothing.
So i thought this issue is probably due to an error in wpa_supplicant file and i replaced it.But still wifi will turn on for a few seconds and turns off by itself.
Also if i enter stock 3e recovery it shows this message.
--Appling Multi-csc...
Installig Multi-csc
can't access to '/system/csc/ATT/system/'.
Successfully applied multi-CSC.
is it due to a problem in a currupted partition..or something like that?if so how can i correct it?i have read that if i flash stock with pit with repartition enabled it will repartition. But also read that it is quite dangerous.
can somebody help me with this...
thanx guys for replies.

Have you tried a different rom? If it works with that then its a rom issue and you should report the bug to the developer (if its not already a known issue)
Edit: Also should make sure it's not the wifi itself. Do that by either trying the phone on a different wifi network, or using a different device on it (preferably an android device.) Also make sure the password is right and such...
no. It occurs in ALL CM7 ROM!!

General android issue
I have had the same problem a lot, it appears to be a general android issue with several android phones.
But none of the solutions I have found have been a solid solution for this issue.
Usually when this happens I've been running the same rom for several months, I just update my rom and good as new.
(Please let us know if you find a permanent solution. Don't abandon this post )
Cheers.
Come to think of it... I do remember encountering this issue a while back... I want to say I was on gingerbread so could have been cm7 issue... I am on cm10 atm and had no problems with cm9 as well... I would recommend cm10, it is really nice
Can be router issue also.

Soooo I know that this is probably a pretty frequently posted question, but has anyone been able to get WiFi tethering to work on the stock rooted ROM??
I've scoured the forums here and on other websites, and found a few solutions, but none of them did the trick
I'm using the app WiFi Tether for Root Users that's available on the market.
Things I've tried:
Switching device profile to Generic ICS/JB (wlan0) and (wlan1)
enabling wifi encryption
changing the passphrase
changing the ssid
enabling access control
enabling the quota shutdown limit
enabling mss clamping
enabling the routing fix
So if anyone here has tethering working on the stock rom... it would be sweet if you could let me know exactly what settings you're using
thanks!
Same here, never could get tether to work on my stock rooted. So I gave up on it and just flashed MeanBean Rome b/c it's the closest Rome to stock with tether app built in. And tether worked off the bat. Only thing I had to do was switch to ics/jb/wlan0. Hope this helps some

Cool, I think I may try that... It's my girlfriends phone so I want to try to keep it as stable as possible. Didn't want to flash a custom rom, she is probably gonna be less understanding of minor bugs than I would be
Buuutttt I'll give it a try if no one has been able to get it to work on stock. Thanks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T769 using xda app-developers app
Yea trust me she will not know that you even flash MeanBean to her phone. If anything gives it away it will be the Power Menu shutdown /restart /recovery /bootloader. And it is very stable I never had any, not even 1 issue since Mike started this rom. And the rom is finished, Mikey said if HTC or Sprint releases a update then he will update MeanBean from 3.09 to newer version.
