I have installed my S/MIME certificate into Social Hub application, however I cannot decrypt any message. Social Hub asks for more details about S/MIME. After pressing OK, it shows a progress bar, which goes all the way to the end. Then, nothing is shown (white blank screen, no subject, sender, body or error message).
I tried to remove/add certificate, but to no avail. I'm successfully using the same certificate in Outlook. There might be problem that it was issued by cacert.org and to get it working in Windows I had to install cacert's root certificate. However, I can't find this option in my SGS II. Is it even necessary? If so, could it be the problem I have? If so, how can I install root certificate?

Here's the problem.
When I try to connect to my University's network , the my Galaxy S is able to connect JUST fine. However, when I open a browser it says the incoming certificate is not secure and then I have NO INTERNET on any page. It tries to redirect me to the login page for the network but fails to do so with a "communications error" and subsequent no internet access of any sort.
What the network is supposed to do is redirect me to the login page so that I can register the device to the network and login using my university account. My phone can't do that apparently and just sits connected to the network with NO INTERNET connectivity. How can I fix the problem?

This is NOT just for my university. ANY public network which requires me to accept an "agreement" before it lets me have internet access, my phone KILLS ITSELF and CANNOT pull up the agreement page but instead tells me there is no internet. I'm SURE its a software problem or something with settings but can't figure out just what it is. Help?
Just about the only networks I can connect to on Wi-Fi are home networks.
You could see if your university has the (presumably) self-signed root certificate for their trust chain for their captive portal and install it on your Android device. That would make the browser warning go away.
You could also check if there is a "show security warnings" option in your browser and disable it to skip over the certificate entirely.
Or perhaps Samsung did something funky to the browser to explicitly forbid access to self-signed sites? I'm not too sure there, I only have HTC devices to test with.

3. DolphinHD
All same thing. I'm now going to test with a beta build of Firefox for android (fennero was it called I forget) but its SUCH a stupid thing to not work. Every other device WORKS. Blackberries, Iphones, tablets, laptops....everything.
EDIT: The EXACT error I get is:
"There is a problem with the security certificate for this site. This certificate is not from a trusted authority." I get this AS it attempts to load the redirect login page (both university and at work now). Same issue. It's browser/certificate related. And its ANNOYING as hell.
EDIT 2: Found the problem. It's that stupid certificate.
"This is a result of your corporation using an in house Certificate Authority to provide SSL encryption on your mail server and clients.
Basically....the computer that issued the certificate isn't trusted by the android phone. I'm new to android so I'm not sure if you can add a trusted CA (I haven't seen any options for it).
I don't know about future updates like the above poster mentioned.
Most companies will purchase a certificate from one of the major Certificate Authorities on the internet, which are pre-programed into most operating systems to be trusted. Internal CA's are trusted by the domain environment at your work, but not by anyone else. External (Internet) CA's are trusted by everyone.
if you want an example, open up IE (gross I know) and go to your options. Click the content tab, then there should be a button label certificates. inside the certificates window select Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
That is a list of all the builtin trusted CA's provided by Microsoft and the companies that govern the internet. "
I STILL have no idea how to fix it and to make the phone accept the certificate though.
EDIT 3: Fennec (Mozilla Firefox for Android beta) managed to pull up the login page for my work network. Not sure if it will work for the university yet.

Hate to revive a thread... but I'm having this EXACT problem trying to use Wifi at McDonald's in Spain.

Just opened my viewsonic Gtablet from Tigerdirect. Ran the OTA update and now running 3588, otherwise straight out of the box.
I am unable to log into any account using an app (mail, contacts, skype, tdameritrade, twitter apps). I am able to log in fine when I visit the website and login through the web.
Is there someplace I have to grant apps permissions to use the internet? Why can't I log in?

No. There is no special place to grant permissions to use the internet. Do you get any kind of error message? Force Close? Some indication of symptoms might help us diagnose the problem.
Get an app called Superuser. You will need to root the tab, as well. I think there's something like "oneclickroot" out there.
Honestly, grab a custom ROM, they all come with this standard.
Rooting shouldn't be necessary to make any of those apps work so I doubt that will help him.
Google login fails, 2 step verification is culprit
This may not solve your problem, but it knocked me for a loop for a whole evening with my new motorola defy this week.
You get a new android device, and everything looks so nice, but then you try to log in to your google account. Repeatedly. You keep getting an error that says the username or password are wrong, even though you can log in on your pc. OBVIOUSLY the password is fine, but it wont work on your new android device.
Well, if you turned on 2-part authentication then you have a problem. (If you have never heard of 2-part authentication then move on, you would have to have done this on purpose and it is way to painful to forget having done it.)
Android doesnt support 2-part authentication. So you have to generate a special password for your android device.
Start by logging in to gmail, or whatever google service you wish. Go to your account settings (the little gear-looking thing in the upper right.) Under Personal Settings, Security you'll see an entry called "Authorizing applications & sites". Go here and make an entry for your device, and it will generate a special password for that specific google application that doesnt happen to support 2-part authentication. Enter your super-secret password.
Suddenly the world is golden.

I got an e-mail from Samsung saying I'd been automatically registered on the Samsung Social Hub website, but when I follow the link and login, it takes me to a Sign Up page. Unfortunately I can't sign up because when I enter my IMEI number it says:
"This IMEI is not available for the social hub service."
Anyone else had or solved this problem? I tried the Q&A function from the SSH website, but it just gave me an error when I tried to send - hopeless!

I use my Social Hub app just fine without having formally registered. And I definitely didn't enter any IMEI number anywhere.

BUMP: Everyone here should already know that as a general rule, almost no Windows Phone 7+ works with corporate servers. There are some here and there. This is amazing when you consider that all Windows Phones are completely compatible with Microsoft's server software out there. Everything we need is in the phone already. The problem is, unlike Android and IPhone, Windows Phones check for certificate errors, and if found, will terminate the email sync update. In the picture I uploaded with this message you can see the errors in the certificate from my employer's corporate email certificate. I can log into the Outlook server with my phone. I just can't sync mail, contacts, etc.. The IT department at work is worthless and remote- or should I say aloof? The Director of the IT Department at another medical center, in another city offered to help. He has approved me for phone syncing. I can now get my mail on my IPod Touch- go figure. The Titan does one of two things: Give me the certificate error and terminates the sync, or it will tell me to enter the correct information for my email server and hit enter. The password is always highlighted. I know that the information for the server is correct. I changed the email password to my account and the phone still does the same thing, over, and over, and over.. Hmmmm...
I have read a bazillion threads and tried almost that many things to get past this. I've done all those things and more. I have been combing through my Titan's registry looking for that needle in a haystack. The needle being how to turn off certificate error checking. I think I have inspected nearly everything in the registry at least once. I'm just not finding what I'm looking for. I thought it might be a function of one of the certificates. I'm in the process of exporting all of the Microsoft certificates to check for any obvious line about error checking. I think if it is in the registry it must be coded in.
Does anyone here know of any ideas, or clues, as to how to do what I'm trying to do? Could a simple app be written that would intercept the error check? If there is any place that can answer this question it would be here in these forums. There must be tens of thousands, or millions of frustrated Windows Phone owners out there. The person that could solve this frustrating issue would be the darling of Windows Phone users all over the world. Microsoft has known about this issue for years and has done nothing to remedy it. Their typical answer for it is to jump through some hoops from hell.
Please everyone circulate this through your own circles of influence, power, and daring. As in the first custom ROM for the Titan, I would pony up some money to get a prize purse going for the first person to pull this off. I'm almost sure that it would have to be on a fully unlocked phone. All the more valuable would be to make it work on a stock phone. I would just imagine that it this reward purse idea got out world wide, the response would be overwhelming.
So excuse me for bumping my thread- even if I didn't do it right. We've got to move this issue forward ourselves. Microsoft is NOT INTERESTED in doing it. The higher we can raise this issue, the more likely it is to succeed.
EDIT: I have since learned that S/MIME is also a crucial aspect of corporate email syncing. I don't know a lot about this stuff, or how it may come to play in the email syncing nightmare. I do know, however, that Windows Phone 6.X had S/Mime in it, but all models above that Microsoft left it out. I suppose, like the error checking issue, Microsoft will make no move to correct this.
EDIT2: I wonder if certificate checking is in the software, or if it is burned into a rom chip of some kind. If it is software, then the farther I can get away from a Windows based ROM the better my chances are of overcoming this. So as custom ROMs go, what ROM weighs in as the least like Windows? Is my idea on the right track?
I have been trying to get a distributor certificate but everytime I log in th=o the Tizen site it asks for my author user name and password and then just kicks me out without going to the certificate page.
