here's something I'm curious about. seeing as the webtop dock will let you plug in flash drives, if you had the right adapter cord....say like for the Xoom tablet. does the Photon support the host mode without the dock?

Has anyone had a chance to check out the Moto Bionic Plug Adaptor for Webtop?
Take a look at the pictures for it, it looks like the orientation of the HDMI + USB would fit the photon.
PS. sorry, I'm not allowed to post outside links yet.
I tried to find one yesterday and apparently none of the Verizon stores near me had any in stock. Now that it is officially released and they have full photos of the product, I did notice something that makes it completely pointless. The adapter is quite literally just a passthrough for the USB and Micro-HDMI. I was hoping that at least for the $30 they would have a full sized HDMI port on it instead of still needing a micro to full adapter or cable...
I'm going to just get a micro to full size adapter/cable and use the webtop over hdmi hack.
I guess the idea is you can use your phone in webtop mode without a hack and without shelling out for a dock. I hope it at least comes with the micro hdmi cable......
Nope- that's the issue. the $30 gets you just the little plug. It does not come with an HDMI cable. It is a paid enabler for webtop and that is all. Like i said, if it was an enabler for webtop AND had a full size HDMI port instead of the micro- it would be worth the money since you wouldn't have to also go and get a micro hdmi cable and instead use normal existing cables.
has anybody heard about the uber cheap raspberry computer coming at the end of the year? it has a hdmi out and I think a usb also. i think it would be really cool to find a way to use the lapdock as a way to use this computer. in my head I though about the DROID bionics lapdocks inputs being opposite of the ATRIX and I wondered if you could just get a male/female micro usb and hdmi cable and hook it up that way and now I wonder with those cables if they exist to hook up this mini comp. any thoughts?
Greetings,
Just've got my RAZR. Its awesome! Just wondering if I can use web top functionality with only miniHDMI <-> HDMI cable and bluetooth keyboard+mouse? What is the purpose of special web top adapter?
It will be possible with a custom APK for WebTop.
The purpose of special webtop adapter is "Money For Motorola". Nothing else.
Or, if you're talking of the lapdock, I've got it (atrix lapdock) and I can tell you it's nice to take with you and use it because it's thin and lightweight.
You've proven my point. I'm not going to buy motorola's webtop adapter
Could you give more details on special webtop apk I need to install?

Why do I need this adapter? If you connected a HDMI cable to the device without this, you would get only a mirror image of your device screen on the HD display. With the webtop adapter you get more advanced features like you would when connected to a HD dock, without the need for the HD dock.

As I've understood HDMI mirror image is not mandatory. And I should get image on HD panel, just the phone display will be turned off...
I just ordered the smart controller, I'm also very interested in whether I could just plug the phone into the usb&hdmi cables w/o the adapter or dock.

uHDMI and uUSB on their own will only work with mirror, gallery etc mode, no WebTop afair.
I have a minihdmi and can confirm that there is no webtop
I was wondering how do you go around to surf the internet on your big screen tv and also use an external usb mouse/keyboard?
I would need a "Micro USB Host Mode Cable" to hook the mouse/keyboard to the phone AND I also have to use a "MHL Adapter Micro USB To HDMI Converter" to see the phone in the tv and both use the one and only usb micro from the phone... Is anyone using a usb hub with usb micro to usb micro connections? Has anyone tried to use a regular usb hub to connect more than one usb device? Do you need to be rooted to do this?
I guess one option is to find a bluetooth keyboard/mouse but that seems to be expensive...
Thanks!
I know that most people us the MHL adapter for hdmi and bluetooth for keyboard and mouse.
Is there a list anywhere as far as which bluetooth mouse/keyboard works fine? I hate to go that route since I will be using the phone this way at both home and work. I dont really want to be hauling the keyboard/mouse back and forth. At least if I could connect using the usb I could use bluetooth on one place and usb in the other....
Anyway, if you can point me out to where there is a list I will appreciate it...
I still like to hear if anyone is doing this just using usb...
Anyone knows a list of proven bluetooth keyboards/mouse?
Guess not.

I bought this keyboard and mouse and it works great. You can buy it for $44 shipped (they will accept your offer).
Multi-touch is a no go, but it is still pretty slick.

Hi!
Can i use usb mouse or keyboard with my razr via usb otg without dock?
I guess you should be able to since you can use USB drives on the OTG, and since the lapdock contains a USB keyboard with mouse the drivers should be in the phone.
I've successfully used a BT keyboard and mouse with nebtop, but that's different.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
I'll post again to this thread if i ever get myself one of those OTG cables as I'm eager to try
You should be able to do the OTG Hack, i.e. OTG Cable-> Power Y Cable -> Hub (With power plugged in on the y cable) I've Used a mouse/Keyboard/Card Reader and thumb drives this way. But there will be some power drain. The phone says it's charging but it does seem to lose some charge. I may just need a charge adapter that has more current.
There are YouTube videos on bow to get USB otg working on motorola phones, webtop or not.
