Try loading ROM run ROM manager and restore after it freezes or deletes your apps boot into recovery wipe cache and dalvic but not user data flash the same ROM and everything should be there if this does not work u may have to find the ROM manager folder on Ur SD and install one by one

some ROMs will always have app incompatibily, like sense to aosp. You could try to nand restore data only after a ROM flash (I know CWM and twrp can do this). Also, more specifically, what ROM were you coming from and going to. I would imagine some of these ROMs you could flashover (no wipe)...

do you use titanium backup to restore apps? I know if you try to restore 'system' apps and data it will result in FC city

How else would I backup and restore?

Use titanium, but do NOT restore system apps. if you ever use titanium to auto backup it will backup system apps but you never wanna carry these over to a different rom. Restore your games and downloaded apps, just not system apps or anything you don't recognize.

Sounds like a lot of work to go through all my apps and pick out the system ones. I restored apps + system data so that I would have my passwords

I believe it has options to restore 'user' and 'system' apps, only do USER apps and data... these are your games and widgets and market apps

if you wanna back everything up it couldn't hurt to do a complete wipe and reflash of the rom, that usually fixes most problems

I've done a complete wipe and re-flash twice and still getting random reboots. Not really force closes anymore

Well that's good no more force closes.. as for the random reboots, it seems to happen with ComRom I don't know why, a bug perhaps. I've heard a few people say they have them, including myself

Well, it doesn't seem very popular, but here is what I do:
Essentially, I make a full (cache and Dalvik wiped) Nandroid backup, but only restore the user data from the backup. I have other backup apps, such as TB, etc, but I don't use them.
This has worked for db/do stock, Com, EF, and MIUIWiz ROMS, back and forth.
TouchWiz ROMs only (all the above) (There is a different formatter for MTD ROMS)
I use Nandroid backup/Advanced Restore (Data only) (in CWM)
I always wipe cache and Dalvik before I backup, so the Restore is clean
After making the backup, or right before a flash, I run the Ext4 formatter to wipe everything
(this can solve a lot of issues)
Flash the ROM
Reboot fully
Back to Recovery
Run Nandroid Advanced Restore (Restore Data)
Good to go.
If problems occur after that, (very rare for me) you could reflash the ROM. Alternately, you could wipe c and D, and flash again.
I have not tried this with MTD ROMs yet.
It happened today morning, but i didn't change anything since last night, didn't install any apps or updates
At first i manage to enter in the Contacts app, but i couldn't save a new contact, i did a system reboot and after that all three apps were gone :O

Hmm ... really strange.
Maybe a problem with your Google account.
But disappearing system apps ... ?!
If you have got a recent system backup, then recover it.
If not, I recommend to re-install a stock ROM (flashing with Odin).
Do a hard reset after flashing.
Root your phone (e.g. flashing CF-Root kernel).
This should bring back the missing system apps.
Good luck !
Whit a hard reset, you mean a factory reset, right?
And no, no backups
there is no way to reinstall those apps?

Hard reset: Dial *2767*3855# into your phone.
This will wipe internal SD card!
EDIT:
Please do a full system backup in future!
I backup my apps with Titanium Backup (free app from the Market) and make a system backup with CWM Manager app (which is included in my CF-Root kernel).
i'll be sure to do that next time, i wanted to do a Nandroid backup after rooting, but i kept delaying it... until it was too late
i guess i can backup my user apps now with Titanium, or should i just start from blank with a stock rom?
flashing the stock rom will also bring back the stock kernel?

Yes, the ROM contains kernel, modem and CSC.
You can restore all user apps you have saved with Titanium Backup.
Do not restore any system app.
Just to be safe.

a nice twist of things today, i have read some info regarding this issue on the webz and i decided to uninstall facebook and google+... and what do you know, my apps r back and working perfectly
but anyway, i'll proceed with the stock rom flash, just to be on the safe side
Hey.
I'm on Cyanogen, the newest nightly build, and my contacts had a lot of duplicates and I wanted to get rid of them all, just import the ones I want, so since I can't seem to find a delete all contact thing in the contacts menu I went into Titanium backup and I delete the Contact Storage and now my Contacts menu keeps crashing.
I though it would only get rid of the Contacts in the menu but I seem to of broken it ha ha.
Any way of fixing this?
Cheers
Delete or Wipe?
did you delete contacts storage or just do a wipe data? You'll get FC's if you delete the app since it needs it to store contact data
You'll have to restore the apk from titanium or extract it from your rom and place it in /system/app again if this is the case...
If you did a wipe and it's now freezing, I would try wiping contacts app data as well and reimporting your contacts from a backup and trying again!
Hope this helps..

Hey man thanks for replying. Just uninstalled the contacts storage and now when I click on Contacts it opens and immediately closes like straight away. I have deleted my backup in Titanium backup, how could I just get the Contacts back i don't really want to have to delete all my data again and do another backup. Is there anything I can do? I think in Rom manager I have a backup from earlier just after I came to the newest ROM? Anyway I can extract just the contact thing from that
If I'm reading this correctly, you've got a backup of your current rom?
If that's the case, you could restore contacts and contacts storage app/data with AppExtractor(free app?). AppExtractor is a very handy app which you can use to restore just individual apps or app data(or both) from a NANDROID backup.
I used it to restore my sms and other settings when going from LP7 to LP9
Thanks again, I extracted it and it's on my sd card but what do I do with that now that it's there? Do I just use Astro and click on it to install it or something or do I have to drag it somewhere
EDIT
I just saw you can install them from that folder but now everytime I open contacts I get a android.process.acore has stopped all the time!
Before it would just quit straight away but now it's giving me this error
Usually clearing the cash fixes it but it isn't fixing it this time
I'm not sure what you extracted, can you explain exactly what you did? When using AppExtractor it won't extract to SD, it restores/extracts apps and their data to their place in either /system or /data - So i'm not sure what you mean...
Clear your cache and dalvik cache using CWM recovery, then reboot. See if that helps.
I clicked on Extract APKS and they extracted to some folder on my memory and I could see them all there. I will try erasing the cache now 1 second.
EDIT
Yeah wiped cache and the dalvik cache and still same problem :S
Any suggestions mate?
If nothing important in phone, factory wipe or flash again.
Your contracts are on your gmail aswell, use your PC and fix your contacts there, after that when you sign in on your phone you will get synced with corrected contacts

When you say flash again does that just mean download and install the ROM again?
Can I do that without having to back everything up again and start from scratch? Or do I have to do that?
When I say backup, that means pictures and videos. Not apps.
Yes flash again and wipe.
Wipe means you have to do all again.

Cheers. I did a full wipe and alls working fine now
I know this question has been asked hundreds of times in many different ways.....BUT.......
Im looking fr a backup app that backup EVERYTHING!!
Like for in this example......
1. I have everything the way i like it on my phone; the apps, the widgets and their placement, sms etc...
2. I find another cool custom ROM i want and will need to do a FULL WIPE for it to work SUPER-PROPERLY.
3. I backup my apps and sms.
4. I wipe and install the new ROM.
5. I HATE THE NEW ROM.
6. I do a full wipe back to the original ROM i had and liked.
7. I now have to install all my apps and sms again form a backup app and set up my homescreens with widgets etc.
Its THAT thats annoying! Cant a backup app save my widgets and their placements?
I've used Titanium backup and MyBack-up pro, but they dont seem to do it!
Backup with CWM, restore whenever. Done.
Or am I missing something?!

Not really 'missing' anything.....i knew that option was there, and HAVE tried it, but it creates a MASSIVE set of files for its backup!
Like nearly 5GB!!! I dont have that much on my phone!! Why would it do this??
I also noticed that it was backing up files on my internal SD card (the names of some of my videos kept appearing under the 'backing up' part)
There is no way you can flash a new rom and restore everything as it was if you NEEDED to wipe. There is no app that does this.
You don't really need to wipe between different Samsung based roms though. Only aosp really

5 GB? That's a big backup. Mine are about 1.3 GB. How many apps are you running, and what ROM?
I use CWM Manager, it gives you the option to to backup to either internal or external SD. Haven't booted into recovery via the 3-button method for ages, but isn't that option there too?
U are using a faulty cwm version, flash 5.8.4.3 if u want a working touch cwm or standard 5.5.0.4(chainfire)
I use the Elelinux Froyo 2.2.1. It runs nice!
Yesterday, I was listening to MP3's unil the battery went down.
Now, the HTC Hero is in a bootloop.
I wiped the Dalvik-cache, but no luck.
Is there a way to recover and keep most of my data?
Make a nanddroid backup, wipe data+cache, flash the ROM, go to restore backup/ advanced restore/yourbackupname and just restore the data partition. That should do it

For other readers: install recovery image from Clockworkmod first.
@kemoba: After flashing the rom, I started the HTC and it works. Than I restored only the data partition of the 'broken' image. After this, the HTC has the bootloop again.
Do you have any tips how to proceed now?
Like I said, some app is corrupting your ROM, your only option is to either get me some logcat so i can see what is wrong with it or to reflash the ROM without restoring the nandroid and installing all your apps all over again

It's no problem to reflash and install the apps, but I typed some info in colornote, tracks in My Tracks and contact and phonenumbers, which I want to have.
I search now with =tools/adb shell= through all dir's on the phone.
Update:
colornote: There backup files on the sdcard. Lets see, if I can find the originals.
If you want you can upload the data.img from the /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/backupname folder and i'll extract you your data if you want

Thats nice!!
I am able to extract data myself now. But I cannot find the place, where the contacts are stored. Do you know, where they are?
EDIT:
I was able to start the phone after replacing /data/system/packages.* with a working one. Not all apps are working, but I was able to make a backup of my data.

I dont think it's necessary to back up your contacts.
If you have a google account, it will save them.
And you can get the contacts back after you resynchronize with google.
(However Im not 100% sure)
