[Q] Best battery saver kernel? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So the usual - CM7.1.0-RC1.4; imoseyon's leanKernel, but I barely get 12 hours. Any suggestions?

have you tried nerozehls dreamkernel yet? i thought it was pretty damn sweet. fast and good on battery. i have liquids thunderbread 2.5. had cygenmod7 1.4 also but ended up changing back. im big on aosp now because i dont give 2 ****s about sense and battery wasting crap. but the dreamkernel worked pretty well for me. after u do it id suggest wiping battery stats after a full charge and wait a day or two. usually i notice a difference after that. hope something in that helps you in some way

Nerozehls kernel is Imoseyons kernel with just a few things added to it.
Battery life depends on a lot of things. Are you using speedtweak.sh to set the profile to batterysaver or are you overclocking? Also you have to be mindful of how often things sync and things like that.

Yeah, I ran spedtweak.sh and set it to battsaver, to no effect. I guess I'll try dreamKernel and follow the advice from the first reply.
Many thanks

Bamf Sense 3.0 RC2 BATTERY WOES

I have Bamf Sense 3.0 RC2 with the stock kernal it came with. WORKS GREAT but the battery life on RC1 is HORRIBLE. it drains 24/7 is it the kernal or radio or rom that causing it to suck. It also charges Very slow.

It could be a combination of things, but more than likely, not the ROM itself. Imo came out with his latest GB kernel, which corrects the slow charging issue. You can also try using the speedtweak script to set on 'battsaver' which will underclock and not overclock to save battery.
Of course, there are the standard settings such as screen brightness and sync settings that also affect battery life. 4G is a tremendous battery hog even on the best ROM. Try to stay on Wi-Fi or if not downloading, 3G.
Here is the link to the latest kernel by Imo....download 1) lean test from the GB sense downloads section.

thanks man im going to try the lean kernal.
I noticed with 3.0 sense bamf that
1. going in and out of calls is laggy
2. on call (most other roms too) battery drians 1-2% every minute

i had the same problem with battery life on this rom. i loved the look and the feel of it but 5 hours wasnt working for me. i did a lot of tweaks with wifi only, 3g only, brightness and auto sync, but still nothing changed. I switched over to gingerth3ory v4.2 last night charged to 100% with a battery calibration and running on 14 hours. with all the roms that i have flashed my phone tends to stay the same as far as setting.
It really seems as if you just have to use whatever runs best on your phone. I've heard nothing but people loving battery life on AOSP alpha ROMs so far and when I load them my battery sucks down like a champ. On the BAMF Stripped V1.8 my battery is pretty damn good. I'd just try out whatever ROM you like and see what has the best results for battery life on YOUR device.
You should try Bamf Sense 3.0 RC3 and run imo's kernel. might squeeze out more batterylife
Getting 40+ hours on BAMF 3 here
How does someone get 40 hours on their phone!? even when my phone is sitting on the couch next to me on idle I'm still only getting 14-16hrs AT MOST. Whats your tricks? extended battery?? I refuse to throw that brick on the back of my phone!

It really isn't that big at all. I felt the same way when it came out and I saw pictures of others with it on. But when you actually get it, its isn't bad at all, and I have grown to like it more because it helps when holding the phone in landscape view so much more. Plus the fact of knowing I can do whatever I want with my phone, all day, and make it through with no problem. This is also being OC'd to 1.6 24/7

I couldn't of said it better myself. The extended battery really isn't that bad. And knowing I can do w/e I want all day and make it home is more than worth the cost and added size!

most economical rom?

Hey guys I love all these custom ROM's but honestly the battery gets drained so fast it takes the fun out of it. I was wondering if there was any specific ROMs that were easier on the battery>?? The only feature I truly use on these things is the wifi tether, other than that I don't care if the phone is a litte slower etc, i just want to be able to make it a day on 1 battery..TIA
I can easily make it a full day with the PowerWashed 2.0b3. Yet I also have Juice Defender Ultimate installed.
Ill be quite honest, gingerbread is not what its cracked up to be imo... I have found that powerwashed 1.2 ed05 froyo w/ pbj 0808 kernal is one of the most stable roms out there. Im getting between 1.5-2% percent battery drain per hr. That means I go 2 days without charging the phone with normal use. Heavy use such as browsing the internet for a couple hrs and sending dozens of texts usually equates to charging the battery once a day or slightly better. The only issue is not all fascinates play nice with the -100 undervolt that the pbj kernal has built in. If thats the case, then just run the otb fusion kernal that come with pw 1.2...battery life is still good(2.5% per hr) and you can overclock with that kernal, but truthfully overclocking does not really improve much imo.
Wow thanks guys! Yea I am on MIUI and its horrible.. I will look into the ROMs you guys suggested..thanks!
vanilla gb is insane. running with the glitch 9/15 kernel, undervolted, smartass, noop and usas tweak applied, simply the fastest rom i've ever used battery is also holding up really well, but I have the naztech 2400 installed just yesterday, so battery should only get better with more charges. pwgb is also really good, but the file system is still samsung rfs, which is really slow. Pw froyo is probably the better choice for most people with pbjt kernel which has voodoo. Ill stick with vgb and see how battery does and if it doest yield me 6hrs of screen on time ill switch back to pw froyo and see how it does.

Ok sweet! Yea, everything seems to be good, only issue I am having is in BLN it says the Biblight isnt working or something like that..Voodoo control is g2g, just the BLN. I'll have to look into it
I had the same problem with bln not working on this kernel. What worked for me was to flash the older 0531 kernel first, then flash the 0808 kernel. Bln works fine after that.

Actually pwgb beta 3 with adrenaline shot mod is yielding some crazy results for me. Screenshots to follow when battery decides its held on long enough.
Only my 2nd day on ED05 powerwashed w/ pbj0808, but man I must be doing something wrong. At BEST my battery is draining roughly 5% an hour and thats with practically little to no use. NO clue how you guys are getting such good battery life...

@Droidstyle: I was thinkin of trying out for starters the rom you recommended "powerwash 1.2 ed05 froyo w/ pbj 0808 kernal" but when i did a search for powerwash 1.2 the thread mentioned that it was outdated and to try gingerbread...just a little confused since i'm still new at this: considering my samsungs fascinate uses this base band (this is the general info of my phone Model : SCH-I500

Im not sure why he did that... Its a very functional rom and is up to date as much as it needs to be. Read my guide, uses that rom for an example on how to install a froyo rom. You are not limited to what your base band shows, you can flash 2.3.4 gingerbread roms if u like,, but they still have a few minor bugs. Actually 2.2.2 pw 1.2 ed05 is the most functional rom up to date imo... everything lse still has minor bugs to work out.
@DroidStyle thanks man, your guide to flashing power wash is pretty direct, but i'm a little lost here...Isn't the Rom mgr. program you install for the market used for flashin the Roms so that you don't have to odin the rom to the fascinate? also, can I apply whatever themes? ...ie: are those used to customize ur GUI?

Stay away from rom manager!!!! It only works for the mtd based roms such as cm7, miui, aosp... even then odin is a much more reliable way to work with the fascinate. imo just get use to the fact that your going to have to use odin most of the time when flashing.

Just rooted today...
My main issue is to extend the battery life.
Do I need to install a ROM to do that
If so what ROM do you suggest, but prefer something that is fast, barebones, great battery life, I am prolly going to be running go launcher...
How long have you been with the phone? I just got it a few days ago and waiting to "break-in" the battery...
I know for my t989 it was the same deal.

I just got the phone on the weekend and installed xboarders BulletProof ROM day before yesterday and the SetCPU app. My battery life has improved dramatically. Leaving WiFi on and scanning while not connected to a network will drain your battery, but in a head-to-head wifi vs 4g connection battle WiFi comes out on top.

I also purchased a couple of anker batteries and a wall chargers... I noticed that if I complete charge and drain the battery the life would even get better I did this about 12 times for each battery.

Yes you need to do both. Most, if not all, ROMs come with their own kernel that must be installed so that everything in the ROM works correctly. You flash a rom through recovery and then use fastboot to install the kernel. A lot of the current ROMs come with a script that flashes the kernel for you though, so it's not a big deal. (Other devices that have S-OFF can flash the kernel directly when you flash the rom, which is one reason why we want S-OFF so much, so possibly think about donating to the cause).

You'll know it works by not having any problems. I believe the kernel overclocks it for you, but OCing lowers battery life, so it kind of goes against what you originally wanted.

I've tried almost all of the roms here (except bulletproof) in combination with stock and faux kernels. The best combos I came up with for battery was BeastMod and 4th Bar with stock kernel from BeastMod. No matter what I did with faux kernels (OC, UC, Undervolt) I could never beat the battery life of stock kernel. Good luck and keep us updated.

For the limited time I have been on kernel and Rom there is been no significant change in battery life.
The phone is faster that is for sure.. that will drain battery
faster but I a running less widgets and no live wallpaper that I normally rock.
The deal breaker for me is that the sound remains on when you close apps/games... and stays on even when the screen is off.
I will give beat mod a try with a stock kernel.

Battery life on Shostock3

Okay. So I am currently running shostock3 on my sgs2 with siyah kernal. Most people get really good battery life on SHOstock3. Just search the SHOstock3 thread for the word battery to see what I mean. If you're not getting good battery life, you need to find out what in your configuration is causing the problem, and fix it. There is a thread in the general section started by Entropy512 that you should study to help you identify where the problem is.
I was on GB ShoStock for a long time thinking ICS and JB would never leave me satisfied on battery life.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353513
Finally came to my senses and tried out ShoStock 3 and have never looked back. To make it short the best Rom Ive ever flashed for any device I have had in the present and past.
You definitely have a rogue app killing your battery, find out which one it is and uninstall.

Sorry you have battery life problems.
I have been running Shostock3 since it came out (it's version 3.02 today!), but I also been on and off at least five (wow can it be that many?) JB roms on my SGH-i777 (won't even mention the # GB roms here!). After trying many, I must agree with the other posters who state that this rom delivers very good battery life when compared to stock and when compared with other custom roms.
Lately, it has delivered the best battery life I have ever had on this phone using any rom (although SlimBean JB provided very very good battery life for me recently as well! Also UnNamed was great for battery life in the old GB days )
I followed the recommendations made by creepyncrawly to read Entropy's (& others) battery notes/faqs. They provide some really good background, some with that typical "XDA flavor" (read technical!. That material, plus some more plain old simple user adjustments to how and what I use on the phone have improved my phone's battery time; and it might help you as well.
It really boils down to the fact that each phone user loads different apps and our usage patterns vary.
Assume that you've flashed it and let it settle for a few days and several recharge cycles. After doing this you can see what YOUR "norms" are. They may be good or bad, but that's the baseline for you with this rom and with the apps and usage pattern you have.
(You can tweak voltage and speed (well, not speed on SS3!), but my experience has been that the more noticeable changes will be by adjusting your pattern of use, or doing the "hunt for the app" (or apps) that are burning down your run times when not in use.
Not many here seem to like or do this, but I would also try one of those "help-you-with-battery-use" apps --like juice defender (Ok, I get that many here seem to think it a waste, but it really did help me --a little-- when I used it); or get DS Battery saver (a bit more aggressive and noticeable, but you also notice the lag while you wait for things to turn on when you want them).
Actually, these may not be precision solutions, and don't focus on your specific phone app use, but they do work in a macro way to slow battery use and simply working with them for a few days or weeks will provide you with a better a sense of what the heck is going on under the plastic; they will cause you to look at what you have/run and when.
Oh, this includes using Better Battery Stats, which is fine for reporting out exactly which the apps behave --or don't-- and by how much and when. I'm not slow (well, that slow but it frankly, it took me quite a while to figure out what I was reading in the BBS readouts and what they meant! (Now, after a year+ or so of using it, I don't even have it loaded, since I've done the fiddling I need --and BBS, plus those other battery apps, helped me to figure out what apps worked well, what apps I was willing to sacrifice battery on and what apps were useless and should be tossed.)
Finally, some roms just don't work for people! So it's not worth the frustration chasing something you may not be able to achieve with this or another rom. (You probably read how individuals have problems that you don't -yet, you run the same rom and the same phone! That is our world. So, too, you will read about some who make amazing claims on how long they continue on one charge. Some are pretty amazing, and some may even be real
My final five cents would be:
#1 run the rom a couple of days, get a baseline. Then switch from Jeboo kernel to AJK's latest for TW (I think it is 1.25ss, but I really also had great results from 1.48s) and run it a few more days. They were pretty much even for me, but others find one or the other kernel makes a real difference!). Compare after doing the same activities through a charge or two.
#2 If your battery life remains "poor," note what poor really is (ex. how much screen time? and how much total run time prior to getting to zero or 10-15%? ...something like that).
#3. Then get BBS and one of the "automatic" battery-saver programs and work with it for about 4-5 days and that many recharge cycles. See what your norms are but do it for the same type of usage!!! If better while using the battery fixers, then you can work at picking off the app or apps that are sucking your battery more than you want. Not as tedious as it sounds. Of course, staying with a rom for three weeks might be a challenge , but this is a nice rom to work with.
#4. I don't think you will need to under-volt to get good BL. I wonder if your phone is stable in doing that? Or, does it induce additional lag? That might be a high price to pay for more run time. (You could compare the UV results with your "norm" as well!)
#5. Finally, we are on Galaxy S2 Sgh-i777 -and can change batteries all day long for not so much per battery! It is not elegant, but it works. (Done it myself several times -even with good battery life).
Good Luck!
Best ROM, Good battery life... been with Shoman's ROM since shostock2 never have a problem with the battery life...

[Q] VZW i605 (Note2) - Best Kernel for Jellybeans?

Question pretty much summed up by the title. I have been using "Beans" for quite a while now and have tried Sabre and Perseus, both of which have their own little quirks. Before I go through the headache of flashing a new one and setting my device up yet again, I figured I would ask for other's views and opinions on the kernel choices.
The ones I am looking at are Stock, PBJ, Perseus, Sabre and Faux 003. Any feedback, recommendations, suggestions, pros & cons, or experience will be greatly appreciated.
Also ideal settings/tweaks hints and tips are greatly appreciated because I keep missing the mark with Perseus and ending up with terrible battery life but great performance, or sluggish performance and horrible battery life, I can't find a good mid-point.

I personally use Perseus or Sabre. However, there is no need to setup your device again just to flash a kernel. Just boot into recovery, wipe cache/dalvic, flash kernel, and reboot.

sabre i have noticed some pretty excellent battery life, faux kernel i noticed to be a bit quicker not as great as battery life but still very good! another thing to keep in mind is a 24 hour period can't give you real results on a kernel it's something you have to let settle in to really know what you are getting battery life wise. for example when i first flashed sabre i was getting about 14 hours with 2.5 on screen time let it set in a few days and i was getting about 23 with 4.5 on screen time. so long story short play with them all to see what your phone likes, milage varies on each device. Good luck my man!
I chose PBJ for my phone because of 2 reasons.
First I have used imnuts work since the fascinate. And it has always been excellent work.
Second because its a lean kernel without a lot of unnecessary fluff. I have been using it for about a month and battery life is great. After I have about 16 to 18 hours between charges I still have any where from 30 to 50 % battery. Depending how much I streamed TV to the phone.
It has worked great. The kernel and rom have been very stable.
I have tried Perseus, Sabre, PBJ and Beans stock...they are all good (which probably means its the Note 2 which is good). Since the update to VRAMC3 though I have stuck with Beans Stock and been very happy. Routinely getting 30+ hours of uptime on 4G with 5+ hours of screen time. Can't really ask for more. I can't speak to the speed/fluidity etc...I can't tell the difference (again, its a great phone).
I am testing out greenify w faux to see how battery is will report back in a few days after it sets in

Faux has been very good to me. Smoothest kernel around, but pbj had a little better overall battery life for me. I stick with faux though

Well after my sluggish issues with Perseus, I decided to try to Faux when I did a clean install of 18 last night, and so far I am having MUCH better performance, hasn't been long enough to judge the battery life, but apparently from the performance standpoint my Note II likes Faux way more than Perseus. :victory:

Just out of curiosity, why does the phone needs a few days to "Settle" for the optimized battery life?
I can understand some updates may run in the background that draw the battery, but that should take less than a day to complete.
By the way, would a few reboots accelerate this "settling" process?
Thanks!
Rebooting won't do anything not sure how to exactly To explain it but like flashing a new ROM its no different takes a few day to see how battery is sorta like conditioning your car for best milage it may get some one day some other days depending On lots of different things Think of it like fluids properly dispersing through out the vehicle i5d the same kind of logic as far as I can understand it probably not the best analogy but I think it fits best.

kernel
using faux 3 and having no problems at all
smooth as silk
Sabre just has the latest update as 6/13, though I am still on PBJ and haven't tried it.
Tried both Perseus and Faux. I feel PBJ gives very good battery life and that's why I am hesitant.
Faux 5 installed today. I personally love his work so far
