[Q] wipe sd with root? - HTC EVO 3D

Hey all, I am going to do a wipe of my phone, and start from scratch, including the SD card. I did the root for newbies and am wondering if I can wipe everything, and just put the original SD card image back on the card without loosing root, or s-off?
I am guessing, I will still be rooted, and just have to reinstall superuser? Or is that also "imbedded" so i don't have to worry about it? Anything I need to keep on the sd that won't be there when I put the original files back on?
Hope that makes sense, basically I want to start over, but don't want to have to re-do the root thing.

You wont have to re-root but will need to reinstall super user (I think). Keep your nandroid backup if you have one and anything else of importance to you.

Thanks, that is what i figured, but wanted to make sure before i did it. I am guessing i won't loose the recovery either?
Brew

Nope you wont loose recovery.

Finally taking the rom plunge, what to backup?

Hey guys,
I'm new to roms, and this is my first android phone.
I'm currently on 2.3.4 and I am rooted.
From reading around, I've found that I need to start by unlocking the bootloader, then flashing recovery, then installing a rom from there.
Before attempting anything, what do I need to backup and how?
I've backed up all user apps with TiBu, and the backup is on my external sd card, a 32gb.
What else would need backing up from the phone's internal memory?
I know that unlocking the bootloader requires a data wipe (?), but what exactly does it wipe, and what files should I worry about?
Secondly, when attempting anything, do I copy and use the files from sdcard or sdcard-ext? Can I just remove the external sd card all together and proceed from there?
I'm just a bit concerned about stuff on internal memory such as the camera roll, pictures, app settings (such as my angry birds progress...all 3 stars...lol)
I'm lost guys.
Thanks for any help anyone offers!
For backing up, I have before put the backup files on my computer as a precaution in case I screw up and I use titanium backup also.

back up your entire ROM and put it on your pc and keep a copy on your external sd card in case you end up with problems while flashing ROMS
So backing up my entire rom through recovery will keep all my data on the phone? (pictures, etc)
Is the external SD card actually necessary for flashing?

[Q] I upgraded, teen getting old Vibrant. Best way to clear phone?

The title should give a pretty good overview. However, for completeness, here's the deal. (BTW, I've searched and haven't found a good answer. It could be that I'm not searching properly though.)
The Vibrant is running MIUI 2.3.7. It has worked perfectly, GPS included. I upgraded to a GSII during the Valentine's day thing, and now need to wipe the Vibrant so I can give it to my daughter.
I've backed up everything available to my computer, and am now looking for the best way to essentially reset the phone. I want to put MIUI back on it ultimately.
I understand that 'factory data wipe/reset' in CWM doesn't remove everything. Should I format stuff via CWM? Should I Odin back to stock, then reflash everything? If so, does that remove saved passwords, apps, etc.?
Thanks for your help!
Wipe factory reset will clear apps and user data like password.
It will not remove anything on SD card though like music, pics.
You can format SD card and external SD card.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
No need for external SD at this time, so I'm keeping it
So, format SD card from CWM? The word format frightens me a bit. I guess the OS stays in a different partition, so I don't have to worry about deleting that, right?
You can always just hook it up to your PC and pull everything off the internal that way. Then when your teen gets it there won't be anything on it.

Clean ROM Install

Hey
Well i messed up alot of stuff while shifting from different roms , from 4.2.1 to 4.1.1 and back again , so my partition and stuff got pretty messed up.
i want to do a CLEAN install by erasing my SD card also , basically a brand new phone.
How do i go about doing this while having the new rom i want to install on my card?
Best thing to do si to back up the contents of your SD card. Then re-lock your bootloader and download the RUU for your phone.
The run the RUU and this will wipe everything including your SD card and reset it back to factory settings again.

How can I remove ALL user data, without reverting to stock?

Hello!
My wife and I both have Note 2's and she wants to sell hers to get an S4 instead. We are both rooted and running TWRP recovery and JellyBeans. The buyer of her Note 2 wants us to leave it rooted and running the most current Beans ROM, but we of course want all her data removed. Simple question: how does one remove all user data, folders, etc without removing root/custom ROM? Basically return the phone to factory fresh, except for being rooted, with the ROM and recovery installed.
Thanks

Twrp should have this too, but with cwm you can format sdcard (which is the internal sd)(TO BE SAFE REMOVE EXTERNAL SD BEFORE FORMATTING SD CARD) then wipe data and flash rom from external sd card and it will be a fresh flash with no user info. When you give it to the buyer, they put their sim in, turn it on, enter their gmail and its all good.

All you have to do is reboot to recovery and do a factory reset. In TWRP its the 2nd on the left. If you plan on turning over sdcard, just go thru and format the sdcard. but i'm sure you plan on keeping your ext-sdcard. After factory reset, just go thru and format the internal sdcard. Your all ready to go.
Oops Boosted already explained.
Thanks for the info guys!

Unencrypting a Jamesrom 411 Acer tablet

I shot myself in the foot and I am asking for your help.
I Encrypted my tablet, after rooting it with James rom, and after deciding that I hate encryption... I want to revert back to stock, or reinstall the custom ROM.
I found out that that's really difficult to do. Apparently my internal sd card cannot be reformatted . In recovery mode I can't access or format the SD card or the system cache. Can you help me around these problems?
Thanks
