Alright.. was half asleep and put the i9000 on my t959. Used odin, re-part'd, the whole nine yards.
Obviously, i can not root it using the update.zip method. When in recovery down is up, up is down, and power button does NOT select. So i can not apply it. I am quickly learning everything i need to work on this. However, I need some pointers, maybe hints on where to proceed to get this back to at least a semblance of "working". I tried to flash back to a standard rom, and i get constant recovery-boot screen. Odin back to the i9000 and at least the phone boots fully.
I need to get this back to at least a semi-original rom so I can root and apply the correct t959 build to the phone. Sooo... help a newb out. I have spent the last day and a half downloading trying various options, going in all directions, and getting nowhere. I have attempted to apply via Odin, and borked things up pretty good, but not so much I can not recover, just need some directions. I have just rebuilt my laptop to a standard XP Pro with all updates, and patches. Updated Java JDK, the Android SDK, and Kiess. I can attach and see the phone using ADB without issue. As best I can tell, i have a "clean" kitchen setup to do what I need.
Please help a new get his feet wet without drowning this time!
Thanks guys.
Help please?

go into download mode by (with the phone off) holding down vol up and down and plug in usb cable. Then flash jfd (which is found in vibrant bible) stock firmware via odin.

This, just ODIN back using this link I guess:
http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/
Just make sure you DO NOT select repartition and take out your SIM card... You don't need to select repartition unless you really **** your phone up.
You guys are brilliant.... and i am sure a few hours sleep and some caffiene helped a lot as well...
Back to the stock t-mobile, no issues no hicups.
Been scouring the bible, and playing around with some roms. Using the search a lot better, thanks for the patience in a moment of panic.. you all are great!
Now to get back to trying and turn this thing into a real decent phone again
Time to feed the custom rom addiction some more!

Did you put in the battery with the USB plugged in while you were holding the volume keys??
Whenever you guys figure this stuff out can you please post the solution. That way its here as a reference and people can learn in case it happens to them...

volume buttons
I had the same issue with getting the I9000 bootloader, up volume, usb, battery gets download mode, battery in, volume down, power button gets recovery...

-Pull out your battery, sd card, and sim card
-Press & hold volume up and down keys at the same time.
-While holding the volume keys, plug usb cord into your phone with other end plugged into your pc (computer).
-Still holding volume keys, now slip your battery into your phone.
-Its a little tricky but after a few attemps you should get your vibrant into download mode.

ok thanks to Doecheese i can get into download mode but i can't get past factoryfs when trying to flash it, i had the cyanogen-mod beta 3 on it before trying to flash and i have tried this like 10 times with it getting stuck every time, oh i have repartition checked to.
Which firmware are you using, jfd or ji6?
Probably ji6 if he odined back to stock. I think its the most common

I think it will help if you placed all the files on odin first and then but your phone into download mode. Sometimes it helps having all the files ready before you connect your phone to odin.
I had the same problem... (couldn't get past rfs in odin). It was my usb cord. The ones they give you with the phone don't last. I bought another one from best buy. Worked perfect.

Weird. Try taking out battery, plug in phone to computer with ODIN open, hold vol up + down and power, put back battery and let go of power. Should return you to Download Mode and you can just ODIN back to Stock JFD again.
This is some type of Download mode alternative. Do not worry, it will easily connect to your computer just like download mode would.
did you mess with the framework? I remember i did and i got that exact same screen, i can't read what the red text says but mine said blablabla.png missing etc.
I put it on download mode like the guy above me siad and odin'd.

dam dude how did you get that ...did you odin back to stock?
I have had that one ime before today, now 2nd time. First time I just kept trying the tar & pit files (the new set that started going around after people were on Gingerbread). I did write what files I used that worked. I was hoping to save time today so i came here to see if there's any mention of it. If wouldn't.mind posting the files you used that would be great.
I've been in so many different modes with this phone. The great thing is if you just keep trying you can get it back.
If anyone knows what files are bring the phone back from stuck at logo it would be appreciated. I know from what I've experienced just keep trying with safe flesh and eventually it works.

Hello, please help me.
I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant this after noon. I used to have a motorola milestone, but it has a stubborn physical damage, and died. That milestone, really, kept my life together. With all the rich apps. Then, like I said, this after noon I bought a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant.
At first, I successfully rooted it, then I successfully unlocked it too. Then, I must have made a huge mistake, and then it moved to a continuous boot.
I have spent hours and hours now trying to figure out how to save my 2 hour baby.
Right now, it is continuously loading the boot screen on and off. The odd thing is, when it is plugged into with a USB, the picture changes to a spinny wheel which also repeats continuously).
Can anyone help me?
PS. I can not go into download mode, or recovery as my device, apparently, is hardware locked.

Stupidly, I believed I Odin-ed a file named "T959UVJI6.rar". Which if I remember right, is a custom kernel. I never really understood the whole kernel ordeal. I used to have a motorola milestone, which, I would do all all sorts of things to with no problem. But, that never included kernels. And for the most part, it didn't have any hardware key lock.
I, think, I need to do the jig mod-y thingy.

I'm not sure how, because, apparently, my samsung's 3 keys are locked. I have tried so many times, but, it never works. Sadly.
Try to ODIN back to JFD.
Follow my guide (signature) and use my files.
To get into odin:
load odin, load the pit and tar (don't check anything, it does it automatically)
connect usb to pc
power down phone and pull battery
plug in usb to phone
hold in both volume buttons (keep holding) and plug in battery
if it show download mode after 5 seconds, and odin shows a COM# (yellow box) click start on ODIN
wait for the phone to finish... you will then have a stock JFD and you can start over.

Umm. At this point, with all my searching, I think I am missing something (mentally). Like I said, the 3 button combination never works. I have tried every combination I could possibly think of, every technique I saw, and held for every possible length of time; yet, I still got nothing. I believe I have one of those phones that are locked in that area. As I read, newer Samsung galaxy models are becoming locked.
That being said, I think mine is one of those.
Sadly.
Anyways, same as any of the 1 thousand attempts, when I (again) did those exact steps, my screen just continuously flashed a non-spinning spinney wheel.
Yours is a simple dilemma, complicated by the hardware lock... idk how but i remember there Was a thread about unlocking it.. just look for it, i think it wus in the general section

The easiest way I've found to get into download mode is to do this:
Take out the battery.
Hold down only the volume down button.
Plug in the USB cable.
That should put you into download mode automatically.

Yes, I have, actually. I found it really hard though. Mainly because the wires were way too small. But, the reason I gave up, is because the resistor is larger then the wire, and so, needed very precise soldering. I could've used the back, but, all usbs are different; and the ones i had, were very much different then all the demonstrations videos i watched.
PS I am actually buying a stick online.

Yeah, but from what I remember, that software, just forced the samsung into download or recovery mode. From there, then the person would just mod a file to change that. But, my phone wont even do as the force says.... in the first place... It has always, just stayed in the continuous boot phase...

Did you perhaps flash Gingerbread Bootloaders? If you did then the combo to get into Download Mode is Vol up and power. Try that?
Mine sometimes takes a few goes. What usually works on Froyo Bootloaders is to take out battery, unplug phone, hold down vol up and down with my thumb, plug in then put in battery.... usually results in DL mode.
Goodluck!

I wish there was a physical jig seller in Vancouver (where I live).
The button combos don't work on my phone. Sadly. It was the newly made models with the button combo block.
If it helps, before, when I could go into that option, I did it by using a toolkit and making it put me to recovery/download mode.
UPDATE! I had someone help me fix it, but he failed too. It now just hangs on the boot show thingy. (rather then flashing). Oddly, my cell can still access the computer, which I think is a good thing. As in, when I plug it while the screen stays put, my computers makes a sound. What could this mean? CMD to download mode?
As for boot loader, I highly doubt it. Since, I have had no reason to look-up what they are. ehhe.
So it's on a screen with a big yellow triangle or little cell/triangle/computer? If so, AWESOME!
Once in that mode, start Odin on the pc, then plug in... Do you get a yellow COM with some numbers show up? If so, load up the JFD tar in the pda section, the 512 pit in the pit section, repartition, and hit start... If that doesn't work... Maybe try Eugene's froyo that will not brick?
If someone got you into dl mode, sounds like you may not be hardware locked after all?
------
If the computer sees it you could also try adb to get to download mode. I'm not experienced with the program, but I believe you can get into download mode with it with only a few command lines.
Which Odin are you using? Sometimes v3 and v7 play differently with my phone.... Try the other?

Nononon, it is stuck on the galaxy text boot screen thingy. In other words, just like before, but this time it isnt flashing continuously. If it was the big yellow thingy, oh thank god... i wish.
As for that someone putting me in hardware lock, from my understanding, the only way to unbrick a locked device is through a jig. That being said, I searched up where I live for anyone with a jig, and to my luck, only one group had it. So I went there, and bam, it can now somewhat access the computer.
NOTE: I am going to receive a built jig in the mail in a few days.
From what I know, having a locked device, means, a jig is a must.
As for ADB, I am looking all over for instructions how to use that, but, I can't really find any through ones.
I'm not sure if it is a bad thing, but I used Odin Mullti downloader V.4 and EZOdin.
I am really unfamiler with this samsung galaxy.
I did everything possible with ,y Motorola Milestone.
Awoooooo!!!! BAYWOLF's program Rules

IDK why this program is SO overlooked, and everybody, always advises to do the long redundant method, this program has saved me alot of soft bricks, plus easy restore to JFD

Then download it, ODINS inside the program already, its as easy as it gets, U cant f--k up, unless your an idiot! Just follow the instructions to the "T" it will automatically put you in DL mode and will provide the two files you need to restore your T-959 to stock Eclair JFD from there you can start to re-MOD, although I suggest you start reading everything first about modding and flashing first, including building a DL folder to stash everything you may need to fall upon for the future plus what you'll need once you've mapped out a plan to Mod your phone with whatever ROM, themes Kernel's, ETC!!!

Ahha, thank you for the suggestion, but, that wont do. It was my original fix, towards getting into recovery/download mode. But, for some sad reason, it doesn't work for bricked devices. In simple, it just says device is not find. Ironicly, the computer makes a sound with the cell is plugged in, but, thats about it apparently.
Oh yes, the cell has to have USB debugging activated. But, since I have a bricked, it can't go within the phone to find it.
NOTE: it has always been in debugging mode.
Hi to everyone! Is my first thread here. I have a Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959 and try to update using Odin3 v1.85. Everything go well but at end apear Fail in Odin and the phone turn off. I think the phone go to restart but never turn on again and I can't turn on now. I press power botton and no response. I try to put it in download mode or recovery mode and I can't. What is next? I order a JIG, but a friend told me that no correct my problem.
One does not update via Odin (well 99% of the time IMO) Odin is usually used to revert to stock and reset partitions.
Did you have the repartition checked?
Did you try and flash a ROM or Boot loaders?
When you hook the phone to the computer and open up Odin does it still show a yellow box? If so flash back to JFD and start over.
If you tried to flash bootloaders your only hope of unbricking it may be a JTAG service (google it).
It may be late for you now...but a warning to others - Messing with Odin is one of the quickest ways to brick your phone. I dont think Ive ever actually heard of anyone hard brick a T959 without Odin.
Unless your updating the boot loader hard brick is near impossible. Odin is not to blame, and the risk is negligible.
My vibrant died a few days ago reverting to stock to deposit a check (so GPS would work). Sounds like the phone just died. Mine is hardware dead and sounds just like yours. Wont turn on or acknowledge a current when plugged into the charger.
BTW: Unlike some other phones, if you click re-partition on the Vibrant and have the pit file. You can repartition and it not muck up the phone... well unless the repartitioning itself went AWOL.

I agree with ya Moped_Ryder about the quirks of using Odin, although Ive never had a problem with it, as long as I do or don't tick the wrong buttons or try flashing the wrong SW for the wrong application ETC ETC!!
Ironically, a half a day too late, I found out about the dangers and horrors of using the Samsung Kies update, and that was what BRICKED my phone, Its corrupted the primary and 2ndary Boot-loaders, BUT again it wasn't ODIN that did it!! Personally I use CWM to flash anything above stock JFD.
BTW I JUST INSTALLED YOUR ROM GREAT WORK, IVE NEVER SEEN FROYO ACT AND PERFORM SO WELL! WHY WOULD I REVERT BACK TO FROYO, BECAUSE IVE HAD TOO MANY WEIRD PROBLEMS WITH ALL THE ICS's and Froyo cured all the app problems I needed working and plus Ive got the loud ringtone again ETC ETC!! Only thing I miss. Is not being able to use my FFC I modded the phone with. I'm wondering if there is a way to port that part of the needed SW into your Froyo to support FFC's Sometimes Old is better, but to each their own!! Anyway great job, Thanks a ton!!
Unfortunately you have a hard brick. I know, I did the same thing. Fortunately it doesn't mean your phone is toast. Go to mobiletechvideos.com, you need a JTAG service. I also recommend the Unbrickable Mod. They can do that service for you. You can find out more about unbrickable mod, search in xda. Good luck!

Don't necessarily give up.
My phone was doing the same thing after I screwed up a flash. The screen would not light up and there was no indication of the phone powering up at all no matter what I did. Tried all sorts of tricks (researched from XDA) to get into download mode or otherwise get it to at least partially boot, aboslutely nothing worked. Out of desperation, I found a guy within driving distance of me that sold jigs, got one within a couple of hours. Popped the jig into my phone, went right into download mode, flashed stock no problem. Phone has worked fine ever since.
Don't give up. Hopefully the jig will work.
I had a similar issue with my phone after using Odin,it was completely hard bricked. As I am in Europe no possibility for Jtag but I found the Unbrickable Mod by Adam Outler. Using it you really need very good soldering skills. If you're not good with that try to find someone to do it on any electronic repairs or something, that's the way that I did,it will cost you few bucks.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA
You cannot brick this phone. I thought I bricked mine a couple times and panicked like hell only to have fixed the problem. Odin is reverting back to 2.1 or 2.2 if you mess up. If you are having trouble with Odin, try Heimdall. As far as turning your phone on, take out the battery, put it back in, plug in usb with odin or heimdall running, volume up and down while pressing power button. Hold this until download mode shows up. odin back to stock. After this, try re-flashing the new firmware you tried, but read the developers instructions again before doing so. I hope this helped
Even if you brick the phone hopelessly with a bad bootloader flash, it's not really lost. If you Google something like "Vibrant jtag repair" you'll find that you can get you phone fixed.
