Does anyone know how to get a mac laptop to recognize my fascinate? I need to be able to push files to my fascinate with my mac laptop. I have installed heimdall and when I try to flash a file it says "failed to detect compatible device". I even installed parallels desktop and have windows on my mac as well and I can't use Odin because it says "no drivers found". I have downloaded the drivers and installed them but it still says "no drivers found". Any help would be much appreciated.

As another OS X user, I am faced with the same problem with Heimdall not recognizing my Fascinate. I don't know how to rectify this issue.
However, I have found that I have to enable USB Debug Mode (under Applications/Development) in the settings prior to connecting the USB each time I want to connect to my mac for file swap. I don't think I needed to do this before, so I think it's due either to the ROM or kernel I'm using.

This suggestion is for heimdall, i don't know if it works with mac or not.
Did you plug the phone in with it in DL mode, open the heimdall files, open the drivers file in there and run zadig? You have to have to be in DL mode while in zadig then you go to options, at the top, check list all devices, it will say samsung usb composite device, or samsumg android composite usb. Anyway it is something like that, heimdall wont work in windows either if you dont do this step. hope that helps. as for odin i think there is a program out there called odin clone but i have no idea where to find it, maybe google does.
Heimdall doesn't support the Fascinate on Mac, so either install Linux or Windows.

I have windows installed on my Mac via parallels desktop and when I put my phone in download mode and try to install drivers, where it says "list all devices" it doesn't have Samsung composite as an option.

The problem isn't with Heimdall or OS X. The issue is with Samsung's faulty secondary bootloader not adhering to the USB specification. As such the device won't be recognised by OS X or even a virtual machine running inside OS X.

So, basically what you are telling me is that I will not be able to push files to my fascinate with my Mac, correct? The problem is the fascinate communicating with Mac right? Can't be done?

What I heard was get a real computer.

Well I just wasted about an hour getting all of the necessary things to get Heimdall running, so this is disappointing to hear. From what I read, I thought that was an Eclair issue and that it might be solved with the Froyo update?

Assuming that Samsung haven't released a working secondary bootloader for the Fascinate, then you can't use OS X to flash. "Mac" and "OS X" aren't the same thing, if you want you could install Linux or Windows on your Mac and you would still be able to flash. That's hardly ideal but it's Samsung's fault and there's not a whole lot anyone else can do about it.

You're talking about partitioning my hard drive? Because I have windows running on my mac via parallels desktop. I would need to run boot camp or something like that?
I was just thinking boot camp myself, but if the issue is how Apple handles the USB on the computer, then the problem would still be there, cause the windows drivers installed through boot camp for the Mac hardware are still written by apple, and the physical hardware of the laptop will also remain the same, so....

Does heimdall support Galaxy Ace? If so, how can i flash any of the roms published on this forum?
I use ubuntu so i can't use odin.
i see that with the i9000 exist specific firmware packages to use with heimdall. can this be done with galaxy ace?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196179
thanks in advance for your answers.
Heimdall doesn't support Ace. You can start Odin in linux environment by means of Wine, but wine still doesn't support usb devices... I simply used VirtualBox and windows host machine to flash firmare. Not a native linux way, but I had no choice.
ok. i've installed virtualbox. i can detect phone when it's on but error when in download mode.
Any help with this?
OK - so tried to update my phone to ICS from GB using odin 1.85.
Tried the original ROM and also the Optus Australia 4.0.3 ROM.
Issue is getting stuck at either FACTORYFS.IMG or HIDDEN.IMG...
Running Windows 7 x64, I've tried odin 1.85 and 1.83 in XP Compatibility mode, with Run As Admin ticked...
Tried Virtual XP Mode...
Tried a W7 x86 machine and also Win XP machine.
Nothing is working...
What is going on.

Do NOT do this. Ensure you're using the Samsung cable and if you are try another USB port. Check to endure kies is closed using the task manager to check the processes.
Hi Everyone,
Earlier today, I tried using Samsung Kies to update my Smasung Infuse 4G SGH-i997 to 2.6.3 GB, but it fialed and I was unable to reboot. I tried to use the emergency recovery and I was not able to recover. So i turned to Odin, and that didnt work either. So i found the Heimdall one Click flash and I tried using it. At first, it did not work on my computer, so I thought it must have been a conflict with Kies... so I used another Computer operating on Windows 7 64 Bit. WHen i tried to use Heimdall on that, I got
Protocol not Initialized
Unable to Initizalize Protocol.
And then the Flash operation just stopped there.
Could anyone have a solution to this? My phone is stuck in recovery mode right now and the only screen I can ever get is "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please use Kies recovery mode.
Anyone help would be appreciated, much thanks
Hi everybody! I tried installing an official firmware without bloatware for my sister's Ace. It entered into bootloop and does not go over the logo of Samsung and Orange. I tried reset factory, delete cache etc., without success. When I tried to install something via Odin, the computer did not recognize it. I have tried on two different Windows with Odin and a Mac with JOdin, without success. It does not work with Kies as well. It seems that the computers don't recognize a mobile plugged, even trying with tdifferent cables, USB ports, Windows and Mac, etc. Any idea/alternative?
Thank you very much!!
There are two cases when my Galaxy Ace was not recognized on my computer.
1. Which version of the odin you tried to use to restore Galaxy Ace?
- Since Galaxy Ace supports "Odin Multi Downloader 4.xx", instead of normally known Odin. There might be confusion between two different versions of the odin, since they look almost identical. However, the way you can find difference is that "Odin Multi Downloader" have "OPS" button that you can load ops file and another have "PIT" button that you can load pit file. Since JODIN have "PIT" button, it is unlikely to work for flashing Galaxy Ace. (And Jodin requires PIT file, not OPS.)
2. Are you using Windows 8 or older?
- This could be an issue you have encounter, since most computers nowadays have Windows 10, 8.1, or 8. I experienced this problem when I tried to flash my Galaxy Ace I dug out from desk. When I connected Galaxy Ace in download mode to Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 computer, it said "USB Not Recognized". When I actively used Galaxy Ace back in 2012, I had Windows 7 and was able to flash Galaxy Ace successfully. I posted the solution if you have a Mac Here with VirtualBox. You also may try using computer with Windows 7 or older.
I hope these information were helpful for your successful recovery of Galaxy Ace.
